    Hi Jeff, congratulations on your highly informative videos - your clarity and lack of waffling (BS) are exemplary. Question: I read a lot about "Performance Grade" - an NAFS measure of window deflection, air infiltration. water resistance etc. This ranges roughly from 20 (good for most zones) to 50 or even 60 (coastal/hurricane areas). This value is supposed to appear on a gold-colored sticker, but I do not see this label on windows in the Tucson area.
    Where's the sticker?
    ps, I just subscribed!

      Thanks for watching and your question. It's typically not on the gold sticker. It should be on the removable window sticker that has the details for each individual window. (energy sticker)

    Jeff, your videos are great. After looking at several windows in showrooms it's easy forget the little details that separate the windows. Your comparison videos go into lots of detail that unfortunately most manufacturers websites don't. Might I recommend a short video on how Jeff's List works. I am a little hesitant to sign up because I would prefer not to be contacted by companies I already received a quote from and am a little weary about giving my info out for something like that after bad experiences with sites like Angi and Homeadvisor. On one of those sites I specified I wanted a quote for copper gutters. None of the companies that contacted me installed copper and they all just wanted to sell me gutter guards.

      I can assure you you will not be getting calls from a bunch of window dealers at all. What's your referring to is called aggregator sites. Those are websites that are designed to capture information and then resell it to other companies. That's not what we do.

    This is a really helpful video, so thanks for posting this. We had Pella replace 8 very large windows 10 or 11 years ago, when we chose the fiberglass windows for our hot TX weather. We just got a quote from Pella for replacing the remaining 10 windows with vinyl because the fiberglass versions we previously selected are about 20-25% more expensive, and I was stunned by the prices, as they are 3.5x - 4x what we paid Pella 11 years ago. There has been a considerable increase in the cost of windows since covid started. I don't see prices coming down anytime soon.
      A lot of homeowners by windows for reasons other than economics. If your main goal is to save money on your light bill, the windows may not justify that expense. However, if you want a home that has less dust, dirt, allergens, sound and you want windows that operate better and do not lead to damage from the sun, it might be worth considering new windows.

      @@ArticleReaderRandy Ya, they are really out of line with their quotes (at least the Pella group we worked with). I happened to be in Lowes about a month later and discovered they also carry the Pella product. While the windows are the lower grade ones, the Fiberglass sliding glass door was the exact one we were being quoted by the Pella installers. Turns out that Lowes would sell & install the door for about 1/3 of what the Pella installer quoted. i.e., It is more in line with what one would expect with inflation. Just showed me how crazy these independent installers can get. Live & learn I suppose...

    I’m searching for the narrowest profile frame with uneven sight line. Trying to decide between Simonton Daylight Max, Anlin Del Mar Expanded, and now I see this Amsco (is it studio series?). I want the most glass, lots of light. Which would that be for a horizontal single slider white vinyl?
    I had new retrofits installed and I hate them. It looks like the contractor bought windows off the shelf, much smaller than my original aluminum windows (they were 3/4” frame), and so now there are large gaps that he just covered up with vinyl and the inside frame width is now 4” width and 7”, with top and bottom 5”. I lost a lot of glass, view, and light.
    I need to now start all over. It’s been a lot of stress. And the windows in the bedroom that were horizontal single sliders with big views, so unbelievable, they used 2 single hung mulled together which only open 15”, they are not to egress code. I think maybe they confused me with someone else’s order. They installed them while I was on assignment overseas. Became depressed when I saw what they had done. The salesperson promised that the inside frame width would be only 1-1/2”. He was not truthful. Had I known how wide the frames would be and that I would now have 4 squares and vertical and horizontal bars obstructing my view, I would have just kept my original narrow framed windows with my beautiful views.

    Hello sir! Hoping you can clear a debate with me and my father in law. He said I should look into getting tint applied to our windows to keep Sun from deteriorating carpet, furniture, etc. I said I would probably be better off spending that money on higher quality windows with Cardinal glass when we replace them in St Louis. Am I thinking correctly?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому +2

      You are correct. If you will never be able to replace your windows, then yes, put some tint on them instead. However, the benefit of having new windows is to reduce the heat and the ultraviolet rays while still allowing you to see clearly through your window. Tinting the windows reduces the amount of light you get and makes the house darker. It's not a good trade off.

      P.G.T. pioneered the impact resistant window for the consumer mkt.. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992 the process began. There are several brands out there in your area ( I'm a field supervisor for a window co. in the gulf coast of Fl).
      After 23 yrs I can say the windows do what they say they will do. What is critical is WHO is measuring them and installing them. If you're in a " Block and Stucco" home you must insist on ;
      A) W2 employed installers (if possible).
      B) If your home is pre 2004 (Hurricane Charlie) that they change the buck!
      C) Regardless of brand INSIST you get a copy of the order for your job with the MFG ORDER # . The order will have a fundamental window description per line item. You might need that info someday if your vendor/ contractor ceases to exist. That S.O.# is the only thing that ties you to your warranty should you need it.
      D) Check Google reviews starting from lowest to highest . Some low reviews or complaints have little or no merit especially if the co. has alot of good reviews.
      D) Ask your city or county inspectors what companies they think are the best.
      They're actually not supposed to coment but you might get lucky.
      E) An established co. will have some jobs you can go look at hopefully.
      F) KNOW your windows! If you purchase PGT make sure your AGREEMENT says P.G.T..
      G) Try to stay away from the " Box Stores" Go with an established window contractor that can also service the product. Once you hook up with a box store if you ever have an issue you're too far down the rabbit hole by that point. The relationship isn't there.
      In summary;
      P.G.T. is ok. If the window is mfg w/o problems you can't beat it. They're mfg in Venice Fl.
      C.W.S. known as Pella Fl in Lowes is actually C.W S. made in Ocala Fl.. Pella bought them 5 or 7 years ago for the impact window line. If you choose the C.W.S. product over the P.G.T. your quote should be less. They both use Cardinal Glass sometimes. These are the 2 primary vinyl window mfg.'s in Fl.. And they both have welded frames ( most co.'s do).
      Regardless of the brand you choose they will come with an "NFRC" label that CAN NOT BE REMOVED until inspected. You will want to KEEP THEM for your records after the job is done especially if you are getting a "wind mitigation " inspection.
      That label will also correlate with the Sales Order I mentioned earlier. It will tie the window to it's specific location on the order.

I've had Window World and Home Depot out and because I live in a Condo with Wooden Andersen windows which are now deteriorating, I've got to find a replacement that is pretty uniform to the rest of the windows in the building. I'm concerned because the only windows that seem to work are lowest quality least efficient Window World 2000 Series and the Simonton 6100. I'm going to reach out to Windsor and Amos to see if they have anything that works. I need to be able to tilt and clean both sashes and the windows must be installed from the inside because I'm on the 4th floor of the building. It's been quite the challenge.

    What happens to a vinyl window that sits in a very high heat environment like Houston? I would think these products that are not gonna hold up. Everything we use in our life that is plastic is temporary. Why would you feel these are a long lasting window??

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому +1

      Cody, thank you for your question. I get your point and understand it fully.
      Every material made will deteriorate in the sun over a period of time. Fortunately, technology and vinyl windows has improved drastically over the last 20 years. In fact, Windows made today have a lifespan that is expected to exceed 30 years.
      I've only been in this business for 11 years, but I have seen windows that we installed 11 years ago that are facing the West sun in Houston and look as good as they did the day we put them in.
      There are a lot of window companies selling products that are not made from Vinyl and they spend a third of their time in your home trying to discourage you from buying vinyl. If vinyl was such an obviously bad choice, they would not have to mention it whatsoever. It must be pretty darn good or they wouldn't spend so much time arguing against it.
      We believe that one of the benefits of dealing with our company is that we offer over a dozen brands of Windows made out of many different types of materials. We are here to accommodate the needs and desires of our clients instead of push or promote any one product.
      We would love to add you to our long list of very satisfied clients. Let me know how we can help, please.
