Thank you for watching. I know you already found the answer but I'm going to say it here in case anybody else is browsing for the answer. That is the Pella Encompass series and the 250 series.
Near as I can tell, neither of Pella's two vinyl options hide the sash locks the way you show in the video. Is that an add-on? Or maybe it went away when they introduced the hidden screen?
Anything I can do to repair a window , which is a Pella product, a slider about 96 inches , outside to outside , that is about 3/16 out of square and holds water when it rains . Secondly I developed a gap between the double hung windows and the frame , the response was to use jamb nuts to close that gap , which now causes a squeak when you tilt the window, especially in colder weather and have use WD40
@@HoustonWindowExperts windows were installed by Pella, they said 3/16 is within tolerance and ground the weld to fit the frame, have called factory they pass it back to Wisconsin Pella, thought there might be a fix,

12 windows for our two story house..getting quoted 28k. We really like the pella but they seem expensive vs the Ply Gem pro series at 13k. Thoughts on the Ply gem as I havent seen any videos on them
Hi Jeff, I'm an architect designing a Passive House building. (very energy efficient) I'm comparing the Pella 250 double hung with the Impervia double hung . looking at the infiltration values, I'm puzzled at why the Impervia has 0.3 cfm vs the 250 0.1 cfm. this is for a building in the Catskills 2 hrs North of New York City. Do you have any idea why the Impervia is not as airtight? It seems like it is a more robust window.
It is probably due to the weather stripping that they are using. By the way, I don't know if that small amount of difference will impact the overall performance of a home. It truly is splitting here is once you get below .010
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thanks for answering!. that is an interesting point about splittlng hairs. it's actually 0.1 vs 0.3 . When it's really cold out, say 10 deg F , that is 2 tenths of a cubic foot per minute. if the window is 10 sf , that would be 2 cf per minute of 10 degree air . so in an hour it would be 120 cf of 10 degree air, which would definitely add to the heating load. Being a passive house , that is a significant thing that would impact cost and maybe comfort too. This is not something you see in Houston, of course. Thanks for your insight regarding the weather stripping. I'm going to look at your review for the impervia.
Killer channel. I appreciate the work you put into your videos. Quick question....the narrow frame on the single hung....is that still how they are made? Went to my local pella store in mas and they only had the double hung windows to show. Appreciate the help!
New South is overkill for the typical Texas market. It's a storm window. It steals a lot of glass space by being so thick and bulky. Plus, for being a "Factory Direct" product, it's overpriced.
Very educational, thanks. Do you know what the series number is of the Pella tilt double hung from early 80s that has removable glass where you can install grilles or integrated blinds???
I like it. It will have a lot of limitations when it comes to the sizes they can make and the colors and other options. Otherwise, they use the same glass and the same vinyl batter as they do in all of their windows.

The studio is nearly identical and may be all you can find in your area. In most cases the answer is yes. However, there are some features and upgrades and their dealer products that are not standard in the big box products. Thank you for watching and for your question.
i am in confused state whether to go with PELLA 250 series or Provia Endure. I am planning to replace all windows in the 22yr old town house. Could you please give a right opinion, the price range is almost the same for both. I live in Northern Virginia
I and not familiar with Provia windows. I love their doors so I'm going to guess that the windows are good too. I know the Pella product is if very good quality and they will stand behind it if you have any issues. I know a lot of great window companies all around the country. Check out my list. JeffsList.com
Iive in Brooklyn, NY. I got a quote directly from Pella of $11k (with install) for seven 250 series replacement windows. Does this sound about right? Also, got a quote from a local dealer of $8k for Provia Aspect but I am not familiar with this company. Worried about part availability and or warranty.
That sounds about right for both of those products. Obviously size and type of windows will influence price and the difficulty of installation is also a consideration. 2nd story windows take longer to install.
Hi, I’m queens. I got a quote from renewal by Anderson for 6 units and one sliding glass for for $25k. And pella quoted me using their 250 series for 7 units and the door $28k. I know prices are high but wow. Who did you end up going with and are you happy?
Man Jeff I'm really glad I found your channel. I've had a couple of estimates. But still learning to make the right decision. You have helped me a lot. Today I went to Lowe's. I did like the impervia but it's a little pricey. At almost 1000$ for 1 window. Not including installation. I wasn't prepared to see these kind of numbers. The other window I really liked is the pella 350. But it has been discontinued. Do you know if they plan on replacing it? And why did it get ditched? Thanks so much
At one time Pella had the 350, the 250 and the 150 vinyl windows. The 350 was the top of the line vinyl window made by Pella, next in line was the 250 then finally the lower end 150 window. Pella found that the difference of a few more chambers made it a little more rigid, but not by a whole lot in terms of performance. It also began to encroach on their higher end windows of fiberglass and wood. So they discontinued it and now the 250 is the top end vinyl window for Pella.
@@jackvphoenix8493 350 was the triple pane vinyl. now you can get triple pane as an option in the 250, if I'm not mistaken and they just discontinued the 350.
Great channel and great content, thank you! I'm trying to replace ~20 windows and torn between Pella 250 (vinyl) and Pella Impervia. 250 costs about 26k while Impervia costs 38k. Debating if the extra 12k is worth it for Impervia. Just moved in to this house and plan to stay for at least 10 years, so can see both options being a good fit for us. We're in Massachusetts and will get the Low-E + Argon glass.
I would certainly go with the Impervia. It is definitely worth the extra cost. Especially considering you can amortize it over a 10 year period. Thank you for watching!
Got the 250 series. Not happy with the quality of these. Each double-hung window has 2 locking mechanisms which are supposed to automatically lock when closed. You have to open and close them SEVERAL times to get both locking mechanisms to engage.
I don't know if it's the most trusted company but I have been reading in multiple forums that their customer service is terrible. Eg if you need to replacement parts or if there is a defect, nobody will ever return your call. Any thoughts on that?
My experience with Pella has been a nightmare! I purchased the windows through Lowe’s for $7,800.00. Pella manufactured the wrong window for my master bedroom, installed the exterior pane of glass on the bottom sash of my kitchen window backwards (facing outwards to the elements), installed the grid improperly in four of the 10 windows, one grid is now coming apart between the two panes of glass in another window in my living room, and most of the windows are extremely hard to raise and lower. This project began in July of 2021 and my windows still aren’t right. And to top it all off, today I was informed that Pella representatives do not intend to correct the problem with the windows being very difficult to open and close! As a disabled veteran on a fixed income, this was a pretty big investment for me. And now, I have to come out of pocket to find another window company to see if they can fix my new Pella windows.
I'm so sad to hear that. I hear similar stories about people who bought Pella from Lowe's. They use the cheapest contractors to install their windows and they are overpriced also! I'd raise hell if I were you. I'm wish you all the best.
@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks! I filed a complaint with my state Attorney General’s office. They have already been in contact with Lowe’s and they have been given some time to investigate the matter. So we’ll see how that goes. There are always additional steps I can take if they aren’t willing to make this right.
Very disappointed in the three pane Pella window after three years the window squeaks very loud every time we open it. So we contacted Pella they sent us the replacement parts and said will charge you for installation of $195. I will never buy another Pella window product. A window should not squeak like that.
That's where whom you choose for your window dealer is important. We do all the labor on any warranty claims our clients have. Sorry about your issues.
I am considering pella 250 triple panels vs. anderson 100 with sound package. not sure which one will work better for noise reduction purpose. Any comments and thoughts from your guys will be greatly appreciated. thanks.
I would NEVER buy another Pella. I once got a Pella bay window with the blinds inbetween the window panes. A month after the installation the opener mechanism for the blinds broke. The window had already been discontinued with no parts available. I was never able to open and close the blinds on the window. on the left side. It was also very hard to get the window to lock after being opened (warped frame). Paid a lot of money for a window that NEVER worked right. Pella's customer service sucked also as they always gave us the run around and never made good on their bad window. NO TO PELLA!!!
Oh. My. God. WHICH WINDOW IS THE 250, AND WHICH IS THE ENCOMPASS????? I'm 8:15 into this video, and you still haven't said yet, just "this product" and "this product," while pointing at one or the other of them. Giving up . . .
yeah, idk about higher tear ones/can't say much, but the ones you get at Lowes the 150 series, they cost an arm and a leg for what they are, and build quality is absolute garbage!
@HoustonWindowExperts the store charged me 440$ for a 32x44 window and if I would have went for a custom order from a window place, it would have been 570$ and 6week wait time(grom a different brand). I definitely regret not paying that 130 extra for how bad this pella window leaks air from all over the place and the difference in insulation from a single pane 60y old window is 3-4 degrees on the glass and 0 on the frame(tested it with a thermal camera) idk yet what other actual good quality brands are out there ,cause I have 12 windows left, but I am definitely never going to buy a pella or custom order one based on the price to qualify I got from this one.
Run away from Pella windows. Check all reviews and the class action suit against them. They are terrible windows. Every window in my house leaks, some of which has caused considerable damage. A wall of my house is getting torn down right now to replace rotted wood caused by these windows. Some started leaking within 3 years. No customer service. If you read a positive review, they have just been installed, or they are n a location with minimal rainfall.

hi there are these vinyl Pella windows the 150 Series from Loews? or are they the 250 series, also what is the difference between 150 and 250 series?
They are the Encompass series. The only real difference is the width of the window profile. One looks more contemporary in the other looks more traditional.
Hi Jeff I need help. I live in SoCal and trying to decide between Pella 250 or Milgard Tuscany for 20 windows at my house. Which one would you recommend? Thank you.
I'd say Milgard because they have a better presence in that market.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Not sure on build quality of both models but basically like Milgard’s locks vs Pella’s built in screens. Is Pella 250 considered a better quality window vs Milgard Tuscany model?
A salesman from a local installer came to my house and quoted me $9300 for 7 Duralast sliding Windows. I think Sunrise Windows makes them. Any experience with Duralast windows?
Is Pella encompass sliding windows a better choice?
Thanks
I'm not familiar with that brand. If it is sunrise windows, that is definitely a good product. The Pella Encompass is not quite as nice.
Thank You Jeff 😊

Jeff. The Pella windows that are available in Big Box store, are they the same as these?

Im in the same boat. I’m curious what you decided and if you are pleased.
Which model is the narrow frame Pella? We are looking to replace 30 year old aluminum windows in a farmhouse in Georgia and want the narrower frame.
Hi, that is the Pella Encompass Series.

Thank you!
Your channel and willingness to respond to questions is amazing.
Greatly appreciate all your help.
I'm glad to help
Hi, I’m queens. I got a quote from renewal by Anderson for 6 units and one sliding glass for for $25k. And pella quoted me using their 250 series for 7 units and the door $28k. I know prices are high but wow. Who did you end up going with and are you happy?
What better pella or Millard vinyl replacement windows
Pella
I’m trying to find the difference between the Pella 150 and 250. Is there any difference? Thanks for all your great videos!
To my knowledge, the 150 series is no longer available. I could be wrong.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Lowes still carries the 150 series. Is that the same as the Encompass?
I'm not sure. I'd need to go look at it.
Thanks so much
I think the color 350 was not much of a seller for them. I don't think it's ever coming back. Thank you for watching.
You may be correct. When I spoke with the Vice President of Pella, he told me it was due to supply chain issues and a lack of demand for that product.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thank you once again for going above and beyond! If only you had a branch in the Boston area 😀
Did you end up buying those windows? Are you happy with it?
@@clementfauchere3528 Yes, I purchased the 250s around May 2022. Still waiting for them to be installed. ETA December 2023. Supply chain and all that.
@@shreyasdube so their 8 weeks lead time is BS
I can't believe it in Iowa
Got the 250 series. Not happy with the quality of these. Each double-hung window has 2 locking mechanisms which are supposed to automatically lock when closed. You have to open and close them SEVERAL times to get both locking mechanisms to engage.
I'm sorry to hear that. I have never used their automatic locking systems. I'll make sure I stay away from them.
I don't know if it's the most trusted company but I have been reading in multiple forums that their customer service is terrible. Eg if you need to replacement parts or if there is a defect, nobody will ever return your call. Any thoughts on that?
Hmm... Maybe it's the dealer who's the issue instead of the manufacturer. I don't have any issues getting support from Pella when I need it.
saludos desde cancun, jeff
Gracias
Jeff, I love your videos. Like your showroom. But jeez Louise fix your drywall! It would cost next to nothing to patch and paint.
It's unfinished concrete. It looks really cool in person.
Good for you!
Any comments and thoughts from your guys will be greatly appreciated. thanks.
@bobbyzeng3105 I think you would be happier with the Pella product.
Video starts at 3:50
I would NEVER buy another Pella.
That sounds like a terrible experience. Did you buy it from the Pella store?
@@HoustonWindowExperts Don't recall who exactly we bought it from but it was Pella that didn't carry replacement parts or honor their bad window.
I'm sorry to hear that, my experience is always been good with him. Maybe you should call them back and try to escalate this issue.
@@HoustonWindowExperts We exhausted every avenue. We've since sold the house and they won't be considered for the new home.
Oh. My. God. WHICH WINDOW IS THE 250, AND WHICH IS THE ENCOMPASS????? I'm 8:15 into this video, and you still haven't said yet, just "this product" and "this product," while pointing at one or the other of them. Giving up . . .
Sorry..
The 250 is the wider frame unit.
hahaha
yeah, idk about higher tear ones/can't say much, but the ones you get at Lowes the 150 series, they cost an arm and a leg for what they are, and build quality is absolute garbage!
I agree. The stuff you're going to find in a big box store is generally geared toward pricing instead of quality.
Where do you live? I may know someone.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Fargo ND
I'd check out the Infinity from Marvin. They make that in Fargo. It's an amazing window.
There are much better windows available for less money! European type windows with better quality, hardware and performance.
