Capturing James Hetfield's Justice Tone - Mesa Mk V25

- This album is to blame for my tone chasing condition which I've had to deal with for 30 years. Not sure how many days of my life I've sat with my guitar trying to dial this in over the years. This is the closest I've ever gotten though I'm sure I'll revisit it one day with a B&B Aphex EQF-2.
As for Gary Holt telling everyone to subscribe to Lambchopper... That blew my mind when I saw it. My good mate Chris set it up through Cameo and Gary responded.
Absolutely made my day, I was shaking like a leaf with the dumbest look on my face.
What a legend!!!
Thanks for tuning in again, feel free to email me with any questions at Lambchopper678@me.com Subscribe to the channel and follow on me Facebook www.facebook.c...
Ollie seems quite excited I think justice is his favourite record
It’s not everybody’s favorite?

So... Holt is a sellout, is what you're saying 🙄
This is the most Australian thing I have ever seen. Riffing and talking to your Parrot...Life can be magical.
This kind of shows how important those harmonies are on this album, combined with the guitar tone it gives that classic AJFA vibe
@Brett Goym agreed!
Absolutely, those harmonies are the soul of AJFA. Damn that record is good.
@@Petedang My all time favorite probably
And justice for all is Metallica’s best album in my opinion. Such intensity and anger within such technical and tight playing
Agree
Agreed!!
Honestly the mix kinda ruins it for me, and i don't really like the tone either but the music itself just does such a great job at making those tolerable that i just kinda forget about it
Yes, what happened?
@@sicco135 I personally like it but to each their own, maybe it’s just because the overall audio quality is just more clear.
Never seen something this cool since Zakk Wylde reposted your in this river cover
Ha you remember that, I’ll never forget it
@@LambChopper678 Maaan, SPOT ON Justice tone.
CRAZY :)
Does the parrot love metallica? today he gives many compliments 😁 Amazing tone!
FLAWLESS VICTORY! You achieved it! It's the classiest heavy tone from childhood! Some people hate the Justice tone, but I love it! Perhaps it's a thing for "the perpetually young in heart"? Cheers!
It's just that It's the Best album of them.
@@TelosDextroza It could be, it really could be!
Heaviest guitar tone and tuning ever.
I got this album at 8 years old all downhill from there. So yes I loved every second of this video.
Tbf i think 90 percent of the problem most people had with the tones was the fact the bass just wasnt there to hold it up it in the final mix. Jason newsteads bass takes were allegedly really good aswell which is shame. I however love justice just to be clear i just think that could be one perspective?
"This amp is just a headache to understand"
Parrot agrees.
That album made a Sony Walkman sound like a million bucks. It was like it was EQ'ed specifically for the frequency bandwidth of a cassette based Walkman.
Not wrong, brings back memories of my Sony super bass. I’ve lost my tape though, I saw them in an underground record store the other day. Tapes are coming back!
sounds spot on, definitely one of the greatest metal albums
Dispenser goin up
Second only to rust in peace if you ask me
Lamb, I thought you had achieved something truly incredible with the Slayer tones out of the DSL20, especially how well you captured the tone from "Reign in Blood". This however, this is incredible. Every guitar hobbyist, every bedroom player, every aspiring metal guitar player out there, needs to subscribe. Your work is out-fucking-standing mate. Thank you.
The way you get the tone every time, it's amazing
6:02 "How ya doin' Ollie?"
Awesome Tone! Thank you
I think it's your birb's favorite metal tone as well! He seems really excited.
The parrot in the background that is hilarious. Whistling and making sound. It is awesomely cool. It would be so hard not to talk to him in the background and answer him
Well done getting Gary Holt to personally promote your channel!!
And what a brilliant album to wake up to! AJFA!!
Still one of my favourite Metallica records ever!!
"What're ya doin?"
"I'm just talkin about the tone, mate.." hahahahaha
You always nail these tones, inspires me to try and replicate it as well!! Great stuff dude, keep it up!
For a long time i didnt really give Justice a chance, it just sounded flat and weird to me. Therefore i never listened to the whole album in one go, until recently.
Man, was i a fool.... It is a masterpiece!
Probably my favourite Metallica album and tone, i cant get enough of it and you make me appreciate it even more!
My 14th birthday I got the first 4 albums all in CD and let me tell you I wore AJFA out listening to it on repeat. It’s my absolute favorite record to talk about, and yes despite its lack of bass I truly think AJFA stands up to ANY metal album.
The production of Justice is weird, but the guitar tone, strange as it is, is really good. The writing is top notch. Hetfield was basically a one man orchestra on this album, furthering the songwriting abilities he already had and combining them with music theory he had learned from Cliff to write some amazingly intricate compositions. But other aspects of the album, namely the bass lacking any presence and the whole master being overcompressed to the point of sucking the life out of it, are significant drawbacks. Still, great album.
Listen on a good system with subs pounding!
@@singleproppilot The stock tone itself is a bit thin, but due to the overdubbing and extra bass on the guitar tracks in post it turns into a badass tone. About the compression I don't think it's that bad. It's no Death Magnetic that's for sure lol. This is one of those albums where you just need a great sound system/headphone setup or else it sounds like complete ass
If you like this guitar tone give Heathen's Victims of Deception a listen.
6am in Canada and UA-cam tells me there’s a new lamb video, that’s enough sleep.
That parrot is so excited by the justice tone. You should call it Crunch Berry.
Fuck yeah! My absolute favourite Thrash tone ever! Sounds Killer!!! Would the DSL be able to get that awesome tone?
By the way, what an honor having Gary talking of your awesome channel!
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
He already has a video capturing the tone of ajfa with the dsl, it sounds incredible.
Marshall dsl does justice...
Is the name of the video
@@gabrielestuardoalivatarrio1324 yes brother, i have seen the video before, and i love the Marshall DSL, but i think booth amps have a different tone. Not mutch, but i find the MB a little more close to the album.
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
Fala de onde, amigo? Aqui fala um zuca que está a morar em Portugal
@@dantredogborsa7048 Olá irmão Zuca. Também és fã de timbres de thrash metal?
🍺🤘🇵🇹
I always looked at Justice as a visceral experience, just how the guitars and drums punch you in the face, hetfield screaming in key in your ears making them ring if you’ve got the volume to high lol and to top it off Kirk ripping a solo while you’re basically being assaulted lol I love this record it’s my absolute favorite
Justice is amazing! I don't remember the hate about the production and lack of bass when it came out. I never heard any complaints like that back then. I guess in the age of the internet everyone picks everything and everyone apart. Justice is amazing the way it is! It's definitely great for guitar players!
Agreed
Well, people only talk about the tone because they’re still listening to the album over thirty years later. That in itself is quite an achievement.
There wasn’t. I bought that shit the week it came out. No one said anything for the best part of 20 years. Fkn internet made it blow up. 😂
That album on a good car stereo is STILL something to behold. F*ck the bass. 😂
True, all the critique came later with the advent of nu metal, djent etc. Bands went for a wider, less scooped and compressed sound and all of a sudden AJFA sound was deemed ugly. But the guitar sound is tight af with so much energy bundled up, perfect for that album.
There were no complaints back then. Because it sounded heavy as fuck. And for most people into metal, heavy guitars are number 1. People didn’t start shitting on the production until the internet
this is like *really* fucking close but there’s still something ever so slightly off about it. there’s a frequency in the rhythm tone on the album that i hear mostly up high but i still can’t figure out where it is (almost sounds like an emphasis around 3-5kHz?) but it’s like the signature “justice” frequency. you can really hear it on the single note lines, like in shortest straw and the title track, but it’s not there when you played it in the video.
that aside tho holy *fuck* is this close. who’d have thought the green channel crunch mode would get this close to that sound? super dope video dude. glad to know someone else is this obsessive about that tone!
Damn! Shortest straw sounded so clean!
Nice tone, I love it :). I would love to hear the clean tones for Hetfield as well.
OMG I didn't saw this one coming from the legend Holt himself, great show as always!
Well you pay for it so....
I kinda hate that tone tbh, I think MOP was their peak with guitar tone.
Fleming Rasmussen wasn’t much of a fan from interviews I have read.
Needs more mids. Black album had better tone.
That first side of AJFA is sick and Dyers Eve is an amazing end to an album.
The production though, they could have corrected it with the reissue but the ego of Lars…
TBH, your parrot is kinda rude. He interrupts a lot, and likes to mock you.
Don't be a pushover. Stand up for yourself.
I was really hoping he was gonna play the next riff in frayed ends of sanity :(
Word, i played the drum fill myself on the table
That's the best riff on the whole album...dun.dedlet dedlet digata digitad digita
@@joaoruivomusic I went full air drum mode too lol
Me too lol
Someone got Gary to do a cameo vid for rig-talk. He seems like a fun guy
THis just shows how chaising bedroom tone is where most of us go wrong. Isolated to one track that tone is awful. But in the mix its lush, tight and thick. Awesome job.
Eye of the beholder is one of my fav riffs, it's just so smooth and nice and juicy.
Your Metallica tone videos are my favorite. Thanks for the top quality vids!
Son of a B- you did it again- this is the only time I felt the Marshall was outshined. I'm still so very happy with the Marshall and grateful for your suggestion. Its nice to not need a PHD to operate. Cheers mate. Of course Gary H. loves him some LChppr-
Gary "my Favorite stoner" holt is absolutely Right 🤟😆👊 and Great Work as Always man!!
Hey Lambchopper!!! Your word is gospel brother!! I keep coming back to your page to tweak out my Mark V: 25!!!
Hmmmmmm. No blackened? Them downstrokes on opening riff too much? Kidding. Maybe. But no clean tones? And that’s a pretty strong flex to have Gary holt drop a message!
@Grand Slamwich ajfa clean tones about as generic a clean tone as is possible. Lamb chopper could fart and it would have a better tone than those cleans.
For me, this was Metallica's last killer album, The tone is 1 of my favorites, it's a killer metal tone, Nice work hitting it!
Nice job! Your obsession with Metallica is as great as mine! Have a great day!!
Besides the lack of bass on the album: this was Metallica's peak of creativity. Best album imho.
The thing that people who criticize the AJFA tone are missing is that it works perfectly for its intended purpose, which is to be applied in layers. On its own, yeah it's thin and a bit harsh, but in layers it explodes harmonically. Still a shame that the bass guitar was axed from the original mix.
Incredible tone! My favorite guitar sound, bar none! And a Gary Holt shoutout?!! You are the man!!
Listening to the end riffs, you close your eyes and it's like listening to the isolated tracks off AJFA. Amazing work man.
If I ever achieve this tone on my equipment, I may well just break the knobs off and die happy with it 😋
I subscribed because Gary Holt said so.
This thing that you do... I put it on par with Jesus Christ befriending and helping the destitute, with Mother Theresa helping the downtrodden in the slums of Calcutta. You deserve the Nobel Peace Prize to honor your work furthering humanity. God bless you, LambChopper678. God bless you, mate.
Thanks mate
@@LambChopper678 He's right you know lol. Sounds brutal Chop thank you. Oh and a shout out from one of the "H" Team, well there you go mate, truly deserved. Can't wait for the new Exodus. Regards \m/
I feel the same, mate!!!! This and the Black Album's one are the tones I'm chasing since forever!!!!! And now, because of you, I think I'll HAVE to buy a Mark V25! 😂😂😂
Keep it crushing, man! You're the best!!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I really think ajfa is the best Metallica album man, the harmonies during the hole album are just beautiful and heavy asf, and what a great tone although there's no base 😿
It was so good that when they turned the bass up any louder, it got less heavy.
@@adameves5970 what?
I recently purchased a Boss GE-7 Equalizer and am running it after all my Distortions/Overdrives Etc and it has made a big difference in my tones. Now i want to get a MXR 10 band to run in my Effects loop for more Tone Sculpting. I would have never even bought a EQ if it werent for You LambChopper, thanks man
Nailed the tone mate! Sounds really good! I jam using BiasFX 2 these days myself. I've seen your Bias Amp Metallica amp tones video and you absolutely nailed each albums tone with that too! Keep shredding! You rock!
Nailed it dude 😎👌 I have a soft spot for the The Justice tone, some folks hate it but to me, as far as a heavy, chunky & aggressive guitar sounds goes, it doesn't get much better than this, especially the live sound 😎🤘 Followed by Dime & Gary 👌
Back at it again with these damn accurate tones! Really really good, mate. Keep up the good work.
Well well well, look who we have here
@@v0id-g0st lol fancy seeing u here
idk which i want more, A Mesa Mark V or a green parrot! Keep up the jams, Lambo. hope you're staying safe out there
I'll have to agree AJFA is the album that made me addicted to tone chasing, though only been a year for me.
6:02 Parrot just said ''what do you doing homie'' ? hahah that's coolness man.
He said "If Marshall wont give me an endorsement then Mesa will!"
The bird is the real star who are you again?
Jk Jk I love it bro keep up the great content you make me want to be a better guitarist
Hey man what is your preference between the mesa mark series vs the dual rectos, and why?
I think you came really close on the mids and highs, it sounds great but that low tight impact can probably only be produced at Metallica studios.
That was epic mate 👍and how cool is Garry Holt!
criminally underwatched channel. been a fan for years keep it up. cheers from southern california
Most Metallica fans wold say MOP is their favorite album, but mine is AJFA... I love the riffs, the arrangements and just the overall vibe of the album. Funny thing because I'm a bass player and well... you know.
Getting a shoutout from Gary Holt must have been so special. It would be so interesting to see what you could do with th Engl Fireball 25.
This channel is absolutely solid gold. I subbed a while ago and never looked back. Each upload is a highlight of my week.
Fuckin nailed it brother ! Most badass rhythm tone
Omg the tone is so close to the original! The Gary Holt snippet was a pleasant surprise too!
Really great job mate captured it perfect jealous of your gear 👍🏻
Who needs a parametric equalizer when you have a parrot equalizer, sounds great! 😆 😆 🤟

@@keithfranzen9209 HAHA! Good one! 😆😆
I love that the first thing you played is that B-section of Frayed Ends
This is insane. Best thrash guitarist on youtube. I am buying an MXR EQ after this.
Great things are usually difficult to achieve
I’m not a fan of the tone on that record, but I’m always amazed at how you zero in and nail these sounds. It’s friggin awesome 🍻 👏
Again, such detail - incredible vocabulary of useful techno jargon, for all that grew up with that epic sound, you've done this Justice.
This is real Metallica!!!
Man I thought I was bugging out with the bird chirping in the background! I thought I had a window open or something!
That aside, the tone is bang on! Well done 🎸🔥
“This amp is a headache to understand” I couldn’t agree more, I love my Mark V25 but damn it can be difficult to dial in when I change guitars. Gary Holts message is killer, really cool to see/hear that! This is quite possibly the best Mark V25 video I have ever seen, not to mention the unbelievable playing and tone capturing of Metallica/James H. Way to go Lambchopper!!!
Justice is my favourite Metallica album and my first Metallica album I ever bought when it came out.
So... Thanks. Listening to this, helps me realize, I'm totally tone deaf lol, I couldn't tell the difference between ANY of those adjustments away from the naked guitar tone .
Thanks lol
And amazing video/playing, and walkthrough.
Would love to see something like this for Garageband and online plugins, free/paid.
Luv how he gives the bird a chance to speak! 🤣
Awesome video once again, ordered a mkv 35 in January and still waiting, been told till probably arrive in June, once here I going to look it wars to trying to capture these tones 👍👍🤘
Sucks that I can only give one thumbs up. You are a metal master. Luv it.
And the guitar gear information which Is really appreciated Thank you sir:)
This is just awesome, probably my favourite album of all time to be honest! It’s almost identical to the justice tone , great job!
another great vid! the Holt shoutout was fucking nice! way to go chopper. also, I own a mark 5 35 but I did get that marshall you have for that ride the lightning tone. thanks bud
What an intro that is!! Awesome haha. Probably my favourite tone of any album. Absolutely love it and you captured it so well as always! Ollie seemed to enjoy it too! Lol. Great vid mate! Great ending too haha.
AJFA; what else is there left to say? Super vid; informative and hilarious! Up to the 200k 🤘
Playing these Metallica riffs at such a high level is hard enough, but in addition you nailed the tones well. Just scopping the mids is not it. I believe that setting the right tone in the Mesa is quite a challenge, but you nailed it, well done mate.
Great video,
MAN IM GOING TO DIE, That BIRB Is so cool, I cant get over him,
Whatta you doin?
Just taking about the tone mate!
Awesome! Love parrots, have a cocaktiel at home here, doesn't talk though likes to sing sometimes.
That's probably the best i have heard this tone done. Takes me back to 1992 when i first heard this album. 11 years old! Thanks mate
Agreed on your comments - Love the AJFA tone! Hopefully the JP-2C I have on order will help me get there!
And justice for...that tone. The same of the album. Keep on trashing
Here you have some of James amazing rhythm guitars when Kirk plays his solos... but without the solos 😏 ua-cam.com/video/KJLdACOpsmE/v-deo.html
holy shit you're Aussie! I had no idea :) Keep up the good work mate!
Congrats, my friend and great video 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This sounds absolutely incredible. I know they were still using the 2c++ at the time and just started using emgs for this album. And man you absolutely nailed it, especially with the recording.
Just discovered you. Love it!
U can really hear it in the harmonies that he plays great Fucking job!!👍🏻
The best Justic tone I have is not with my Mesa gear. I got an ADA MP-1 3TM mode and a BBE 442 and done the job pretty easily. The ADA is thick but you can scoop it to oblivion. It also has all the treble and bass you need (but you add the BBE for that as well). and also ALL the presence. It's also very tight in the 3TM mode. So it gets you there VERY fast. More scooped than my Triaxis and my Rectifier pre which says A LOT...
Well done with the recommendation from Gary Holt. Thanks for the bloody good videos.
