My Dad was a Royal Marine Commando, he died in 2013. This was played at his funeral, he served with Honour and Distinction for many years. Thank you Dad.
I have attended a number of Ceremonial Sunsets during my service in Her Majesty's Royal Marines. The proudest was as Guard Commander at Plymouth Ho..... Plymouth is home to many Bootnecks......
My step dad,(the only dad I knew) was in the Royal Navy between 1915 and 1920. Yes, he was at the battle of Jutland. He died in 1973, I still think of him. He served on HMS Shannon, and Royal Oak. God bless the senior service.
Thank you for your comments and also your service. I am delighted that the video brought back some memories for you, that's why I make these videos. Look after yourself!
Thank you for showing the Guard of Honour, so many others seem to want to exclude the Royal Navy element from their video's, they were in preparation and training for weeks for this away from their ships/bases, the polishing of buckles, scabbards and boots, cleaning of caps and pressing of white tops and blue jeans took many hours of their 'off-duty' time, I know my son is one of those in your video.
Thank you so much for your very kind words. I wanted to include the Guard of Honour as these men and women represent our Royal Navy. Without them, there would be no Royal Marines! As a young Sea Cadet, I was in the Guard and I know how hard it is to get your kit up to standard with spit and polish, Brasso and whitening. I hope that he and his shipmates also enjoyed the video.
Love to see the Royal Navy. They along with the RAF Reg, who also do a cracking job. All so smart, precise and professional. Thank you all for your service. This lovely country, my goodness, has its myriad problems, but you young folk restore my faith in what’s good. Best wishes from Cornwall👍👍
The Marines have got "BEAT THE RETREAT", so highly polished that you think they could not produced anything better, but this year they have done that. What an absolutely spectacular performance this was..
The grand old Duke of York, he had ten thousand men, he marches to up to top of the hill and marches up down again, and when they up they were up, and when they down they were down and when they were only half way up they were half way up nor down......Three years old amazing and my dad was a royal marine commando fighting for freedom with New Borneo 1964 but unfortunately I have had a stroke.
With respect, no. You will find Australia, New Zealand, India (at least once), and others are just as capable. Indeed, I have participated in Sunsets with units from different navies, and the results are just as good.
Wonderful! A pity the sun wasn’t out that day…But one thing was absolutely certain and that is that it was certainly shining and positively beaming too in the hearts of all witnessing this event! Bravo!
One of my uncles was a seaman on board H.M.S. Isis a destroyer during world war Two took part in boarding the French coast after D-day shortly after wards his ship was torpedoed.
As a bugler i/drummer I spent the best part of my service life on board HM Ships and Whale Island.and Terror Fes. Mutch better than boring old land based .
@@Geordiegjs No worries, brings back many happy memories during my time in the Senior Service, marched to this a few times, as they say you never leave the Royal Navy, they just stop paying you... although those of us who did the full 22 years and some more now enjoy the benefits of a pension.

@Geordiegjs Welcome, I assure you. Keep up the good work. I imagine those on parade were reservists. Having been in the navy we never marched as units. Only the reservists would have had the time to practice what was an excellent parade.
Hi William, yes you would normally expect that but I understand from the families of those who took part that they were drawn from ships/bases across the service and volunteered to practice and drill in their own time over a period of months. If you have a look in the comments below. Thank you for taking the time to comment William, much appreciated.
as an Army veteran soldiers used to tell the Matelots they couldnt march, they used to tell us soldiers where the Army goes the Pongos that's how we got our nicknames.
Please remember. ALL those Matelots what you see have a PROPER JOB aboard ship. You will never see them, it happens probably thousands of miles from Home. Only they know what that entails. Ok.
Thank you for your comment and it’s a great reminder to everyone that this is just ceremonial, their day job is working at the sharp end protecting UK assets and keeping us safe. ⚓️👍

My father joined the Royal Navy at fifteen. He was eventually a CPO and served for 15 years ❤
That's great service from your Father to the Country!
I went to horse guards parade this July and thourghly enjoyed the display, it's something only we British can do.
Excellent.
I agree, nobody can beat the British at pomp, ceremony and highly skilled musicians.
True to a point, but the Armed Forces of Australia aren't that far astern, especially the RAN.
