Despite having a cable throttle, it's still down to the way the EFI delivers the fuel. A different tune ought to fix a lot of the lag on the RS. Yes, they deliberately tune it differently, because it's not a sports naked - it's a modern classic UJM. They're trying to emulate the usability of the classics with this one - it's more of a bike for people who like to pootle about with classic feel and style than people who want to turn into a land-based cruise missile at the flick of a wrist. Honestly, I think a flash tune, a different air filter and perhaps a four-into-one-into-four pipe system will absolutely uncork this thing.

Interesting description of the z900 power delivery. I rode the 750 back in the early 80s and that was exactly like that, sluggish at low revs and then picked up. Never rode the original Z, but that is maybe the same character and they’ve engineered that into the retro.

z900rs if you want a modern retro xsr if you want a redesigned mt09 Kawi has done the best retro bikes so far (at least out of the Japanese manufacturers) with the w800, z900rs, and their 650 equivalent. Love Yamaha but their “retro” bikes don’t have the retro look or feel.

They are using the last gen XSR. the new one fixed almost every issue with the last one, in stock form it has an incredibly smooth throttle and it handles significantly better, which is expected since Yamaha specifically targeted better power delivery and handling when they redesigned the bike.
@@MrGoddly Thanks so much for the reply. I have read/watched reviews on the 2022 XSR which is why I was surprised by the comments. Yep, Yamaha fixed almost everything that was wrong with the previous generation. I say almost cause to me, it's still butt ugly. I don't know why the engine shows so much wiring and plumbing. They need a way to clean all that up like other naked. However, if they did that, it would be a perfect bike, and we know there's no such thing. :-) Thanks again!

you know, the more i hear you complain about the rs, the more i think theres something wrong with yours. Maybe my throttle to brain connection is broken, but i’ve never felt underwhelmed by the rs’ performance.
The Kawasaki is a beautiful looking bike the XSR is ugly compared to it and I'll bet it's more comfortable . The XSR is much more high strung and lot's of fun to ride .
Oh shit whoops I thought I was staring at filled up chest pockets, that’s not yammienoob, shit did I mod something? That was shocking. I’m surprised my phone is still working rn after dropping it in the toilet just now right on top of the shit.
ive had both, the bonnie is lower, feels more like a steam train, doesn’t go or stop as well. The rs has more torque, more top end, better brakes, better cornering stability, more up right position and if you close your eyes, it feels like a standard Japanese naked sports bike thats had all it’s edges softened.
@@Koleboetel the RS has a cush drive too. It's definitely the ECU. The new euro regs means that when you cut the throttle, like say, when you are braking before going into a corner, and therefore have no throttle on, then the ECU cuts the fuel to the engine altogether, so long as the bike is still moving. Apparently it's called "fuel cut" or something like that in the ECU options. Older bikes would have an idle setting that would deliver a minimal amount of fuel during 0 throttle, no mater how fast you were going. The problem with this, is when you go to roll the throttle back on, say, mid corner, there is a slight gap between when you turn the throttle (which on the RS is actually a cable, but also monitored by the ECU), and the ECU going "oh, hang on, you want to GO again?", so the bike goes from hard engine braking (because no fuel is being used), to "you are already at 10% throttle, crap, better throw some fuel on the fire". This can be designed or tuned to be unnoticeable, no doubt by using completely ride by wire systems so the computer has complete 1 to 1 control over the entire process, however, it seems many manufacturers don't care, or don't want to fix it in any other way just to appease some markets enviro restrictions. (This is actually why one "fix" for this is to raise the idle, so the bike never thinks it's at 0 throttle, but then the bike is pushing you around at "idle" which is unsettling at best) So we end up with bikes (like the RS), where if you go from 0 throttle to any throttle, you get a noticeable jerk, which, mid corner, can be confidence destroying. The solution? There are 2: when you roll on the throttle, roll on super slowly and super smoothly, like 10 times smoother than you think you can, and 100 times smoother than you actually do, and f it up 50% of the time, but stop caring and work it into your riding style. Kinda solved? Or, get a tuner to disable that throttle cut switch in the ECU. Problem completely solved. Usually I'm happy enough to go along with environmental regulations, but in this case, it makes riding a motorbike much more dangerous than it needs to be, especially with a bike that is quite responsive, quite upright, has plenty of power, limited rider modes (the wet riding mode just makes the traction control way more intrusive) and is quite heavy for what it is. I have gotten somewhat used to mine, but if it's raining, I'm mid corner, well, I just don't push myself at all anymore, sad, but that's what you have to do to save the environment right? (I'll be getting mine fixed properly now that everything is open again (virus we cannot name)
@@Koleboetel I had a 2013 bonneville se2 a2, beautiful bike, but not quite the performance level I'm up for these days. I'm on to my thrid set of rubbers on the RS. I highly recommend getting off the OEM rubber asap, they make those tires to a tight budget. I currently run Michelin Pilot Road 4's, fantastic tire, completely changed the way the bike turns in, holds a line etc. good in the wet too.
They could say all the beautiful and amazing things about the Yamaha, but that bike is just so horrible looking, and the 2022 model?!, Have you seen the new seat and tail, they are absolutely disgustingly horrible, It is just too much uglyness for. For me easy pick definitely and absolutely Kawasaki, what a beauty and peace of art it is. Also is very nice for cruising comfortable without having to worry about jerkiness like Yamaha. Lastly I just do not like the sound of 3 cylinder bikes, they just forgot to add 1 cylinder, there is nothing like the music of 4 cylinder bikes, nothing!!!!
I know Yamaha specifically targeted better handling on the new gen. Since it uses the same frame geometry and engine as my 2021 mt09 I would assume it handles similarly and the mt09 handles way better than the previous generation. With power modes using mode 2 or 3 (1 being the highest) I'm sure you can have similar power delivery as the 900rs while retaining the higher mode if you want to have fun. obviously I haven't ridden the new xsr900 since they are almost impossible to find yet and I already have my mt09 but considering it is mechanically the same as my Mt09 this is the best comparison I can give.
Yamaha is not a classic bike but it is not a modern bike either, is like What F... Is that horrible thing, really Yamaha just got the crown producing the ugliest looking motorcycle that they could produce !!!!

They are using the last gen XSR. the new one fixed almost every issue with the last one, in stock form it has an incredibly smooth throttle and it handles significantly better, which is expected since Yamaha specifically targeted better power delivery and handling when they redesigned the bike.
@@MrGoddly yeah the new gen mt09/XSR is amazing. I’d know cause I have one lol
Love this videos of the XSR 900!
How do you think an XSR 900 will handle with clip ons?
This is like the fourth video almost in a row of just beating up on the z900. We get it, aren't there other bikes in the studio to make videos about right now ? Where is the triumph?
Please take that garbage power commander off the xsr and get a vcyclenut tune. Get a penski shock and fork cartridges. Totally different animal in the best way.
z900 for me because my insurance company prices the XSR900/MT09 sky high into 150+hp bike territory.
What setting do you have the safety features set at? There is a WORLD of change.
I have owned both bikes and totally disagree the Z900RS is so much more powerful and better, not sure why this isn't an honest review? Must get cabbage from Yamaha 😑
The new xsr is a different bike -be nice to see that in avid comparo.
wtf is that phone mount on the xsr. No rokform?
you know, the more i hear you complain about the rs, the more i think theres something wrong with yours. Maybe my throttle to brain connection is broken, but i’ve never felt underwhelmed by the rs’ performance.
I just wonder if the yammie would do a brack performance on it and how to change that bike
Not a fair parkway test due to the sprocket change.
Can she make a sentence with out saying “ I mean” I mean I mean lol 😂
41k miles on my Z900rs(!)
I want to see an actual Z900 on this channel... not the RS. I feel like it is being avoided at all costs
Oh god!
That lady again
What’s wrong with Whitney?
The Chipotle of bikes would make me think it's bland and flavorless.
How tall is she and is she able to flat foot both bikes?
Did Whitney get rid of her 701?!
The Z seems like a four cylinder Bonneville.
ive had both, the bonnie is lower, feels more like a steam train, doesn’t go or stop as well.
(This is actually why one "fix" for this is to raise the idle, so the bike never thinks it's at 0 throttle, but then the bike is pushing you around at "idle" which is unsettling at best)
So we end up with bikes (like the RS), where if you go from 0 throttle to any throttle, you get a noticeable jerk, which, mid corner, can be confidence destroying.
I currently run Michelin Pilot Road 4's, fantastic tire, completely changed the way the bike turns in, holds a line etc. good in the wet too.
oi why u compare it to the old xsr?
GSXS 1000 2022 Pleaseeee
day 1000 of asking for a review of a duke 890
Is z900rs good bike for the beginner????
No. Not a beginner bike.
The comment section is always full of so much "actually".
Yeeyeee
Guys, they are not the same type of bike.
Lastly I just do not like the sound of 3 cylinder bikes, they just forgot to add 1 cylinder, there is nothing like the music of 4 cylinder bikes, nothing!!!!
jibblety❤️
Look at all the Kawasaki guys in the comments 😂
“Are you actively growing hair on your balls? Cus that’s why I bought this bike.” Whitney
I personally think the Yamaha is just ugly to look at. And the new 2022 updated model isn't any better
Chipotle is good? SMH
what's up with your voice, it's like the video on tik tok with a new chef...
I am curious about the new xsr900 and its ability to handle on twistys.
@@MrGoddly thanks. I read about the swing arm and frame changes. The local dealer isn't even allocated a new xsr900 for this year.
Do the yuppies living along that estate road you guys always rip and film on ever complain??
The Z900 is ugly. XSR900 looks better.
Kawasaki's seem like the KIA of motorcycles.
My bike was stolen earlier this week I'm gonna be off 2 wheels for a while
Yamaha is not a classic bike but it is not a modern bike either, is like What F... Is that horrible thing, really Yamaha just got the crown producing the ugliest looking motorcycle that they could produce !!!!
Pretty much the same video for the 3rd time. This is getting really boring.
Hey Yam's i will like and watch every single vid you have if you send me a grom.
wanna become a tattoo/bike youtuber.
An million dollar sf90 passed by and they didn't even notice, shame.
