That's a very interesting bass, it's a custom bass by NY luthier Carl Thompson. Carl thought he had all these terrific scraps of wood from many other bases, and he decided to use them on a bass. That bass is a fretless 6 string. "Herb" (Tim Alexander) is a terrific drummer. I saw them live a once or twice over the years when they opened for Rush.
So hard for me to explain, it's like, all the cool crazy sounds and riffs I come up with alone, that are fun and creative, but I end up thinking," I dont know what to do with it, I cant make a song out of it, no one will understand it," etc. Etc., they had the balls to do that, have a blast at it, regardless whether they thought it would fly, and people loved it. Makes me feel foolish and wasteful for not trying the same things all along.
Primus is their own genre, even Winamp had a specific "Primus" label. BTW, a lot of Primus song are very far from being "Funk metal", Southbound Pachyderm, Over the falls or Bob are good examples.
This song was heavily influenced by King Crimson's "Elephant talk", especially Tony Levin bass line. Primus is the best example of an original band that has really properly integrated all their influences (Pink Floyd, Rush, The Reddings, Stanley Clarke, The Meters, The Residents, XTC, The Police...) to create something unique and immediately recgnizable.
This video will blow your mind - ua-cam.com/video/aYDfwUJzYQg/v-deo.html Winona's Big Brown Beaver. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it - what a hoot!
Chod, you need to check out these live performances also. 1) "Tommy the Cat/The Awakening" live: ua-cam.com/video/klGpnqWNTlw/v-deo.html and 2) this this jam session of Claypool, Buckethead, and Bernie Worrel (keys player for the Talking Heads) at Bonnaroo: ua-cam.com/video/MEDB4xJsXVo/v-deo.html
Primus are currently touring and they're covering the full "A farewell to kings" album in addition to their own material. ua-cam.com/video/TUg4plNxYcg/v-deo.html
They covered "Behind my camel" : ua-cam.com/video/w_E3nyXW1gU/v-deo.html and Les made a band with Stewart Copeland and Trey Anastasio (Phish), another trio named Oysterhead.
The reason all the Primus fans say "PRIMUS SUCKS!", is so they don't have to compete with so many people for tickets to their shows. Just my two cents, but PRIMUS SUCKS! In a great way.
seen them twice live....great sounds/songs but you really are there to see Les Claypool and what he can do with a bass guitar although hes really a very good musician overall
You wanna see some great drumming. Watch Unleash The Archers "Awakening" ua-cam.com/video/gqUPGa15Oto/v-deo.html Scott has some cool style too. Watch that "Left, Left, Right, Right" double bass work. Wow. Being a drummer YOU MUST see this.
MTV's Haunted House Party 1993. At the time, I was in a brief stint in college. There was no cable Tv in the dorms at that time so I drove an hour ( one way ) home so I could watch this performance. They also performed My Name Is Mud. I was 20 at the time.
You should just listen to the album version for real this live version is too fast and way off tune . But it is live I know it's always different and primus is fun to watch live but yeah just listen the album version
He’s basically playing 2 bass riffs combined. Hammer ons on one hand and thumping and plucking on the other hand.

You have to check out thier Woodstock '94 performance of Damned Blue Collar Tweekers. Tons of energy!
Primus “Shake Hands with Beef” is quite possibly their funkiest Chod. And the drumming is amazing. Check it out.
The official video is hilarious! Great song.
@@TYoung023 yes the video is the best version.
That whole song sounds like a wet fart. Probably why it's on the Brown Album
All 3 are unique and talented, I'm so thankful they found each other.

Far as I know Primus invented the genre of funk metal. It takes a rare breed to invent a musical genre.
Primus is their own genre, even Winamp had a specific "Primus" label. BTW, a lot of Primus song are very far from being "Funk metal", Southbound Pachyderm, Over the falls or Bob are good examples.
Chod, if you like something kind of different but still rocks check out Cake- Short Skirt Long Jacket. 👍👍
I was fortunate enough to see them when they opened for Rush!

They are friends with Rush. They toured together in 1991. 3 piece bands
I saw them later that same year with another 3 piece… Public Enemy (oh, and Anthrax)!
Primus are currently touring and they're covering the full "A farewell to kings" album in addition to their own material.

This is a great primus song, you would probably enjoy the song Pudding Time by Primus. The drums and bass are so tight you would love it
I was wondering when you were going to react to them again. Glad you did.
Les Claypool is ridiculous. Just a crazy talented bassist.
"here come the bastards" is my fave
Lennon/Claypool Delirium too!!
They are starting to grow on me. Lennon's guitar playing is tremendous.
90's 🔥
My East Bay brothers!! They are part of the Bay Area Metal scene believe it or not!
You should react to a primus song that all fans love, and absolutely zero people have to..
BOB

Primus - Eleven. Album version. Thank me later
Not even the best video. I have seen them live numerous times i addition to Les' many side project. Can't get enough!!
Primus sucks. Fish On is my favorite song, often overlooked but it seems like one that'd be right up your alley.
You should just listen to the album version for real this live version is too fast and way off tune . But it is live I know it's always different and primus is fun to watch live but yeah just listen the album version
Claypool is goat of bass just my opinion ..Primus Sucks !!
