Not trying to be a troll here but Les would be one of the reasons I would never pick up a bass...I used to play guitar and when I watched SRV play Texas Flood behind his back I just said oh screw this!!!
Primus is the weirdest band to get into... where the bass is the lead instrument. Just a strange mix of satire, 70's funk, jazz grooves, & punk rock...
You've got to check out their video for "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" A great banger of a song with a disturbingly entertaining video. They're dressed in these vinyl cowboy costumes the make them look like 3D cartoon characters... and like I said, the song ROCKS!! ua-cam.com/video/aYDfwUJzYQg/v-deo.html
@@mannyb.7829 What did ya think, Manny? I thought they were absolutely fantastic, and they NAILED Rush's 'Farewell to Kings' album. "Xanadu" and "Cygnus X-1" were amazing!
The look on your faces when Les firstd started singing is priceless. I think thats how we all felt! lol. Then, you listened to everything else and realized you were listening to the weirdest, most unique, original band ever. I love that even though you are young, you are wise when it comes to music.
Primus has one of the most unique sounds in music today, I love it and hate it. I wish there was more, but at the same time their uniqueness is one of their great traits. They never take themselves too seriously
Primus has great music and some of the best videos there are. Les Claypool plays both the guitar and upright bass brilliantly. Claypool auditioned for Metallica, they said he was too good and should start his own band so he did Primus.
Isn't that crazy?...I mean can you imagine Hetfield saying you're too good to be in arguably one of the best heavy metal bands ever!?....Les Claypool is a bass Gangster...Tommy the cat live...untouchable
I don’t know what’s up with Primus today, but I saw them on Pay per View back in the day playing Woodstock ‘94. I was very impressed with the bass performance. I had never seen bass played like that before. I remember being amusingly entertained by his vocal style. It was very short set, and his encore was a very brief bass solo. 🤣 The crowd was chanting “PRIMUS SUCKS!” Which was their praise from the crowd. “Primus sucks” means Primus is awesome! 😄
Unique is the word that keeps turning up in every Primus review and it's true. Cool to see you girls grooving to this song that is prolly older than you.
He also does the theme song for South Park! I think the nachos are a reference to the name of the album "Sailing the Seas of Cheese". Check out 'those damn blue collar tweekers' live from Woodstock or 'Tommy the cat' live from Bonnaroo
I grew up going to that race track. I was actually working there when they were shooting the racing. I didn't find out about it until the first time that I saw the video.
The first time I saw them they opened for RUSH (big mistake) and got booed off the stage by their third song. I felt bad for them, but they were just too far against the grain for most listening audiences back then. Once they gained a bit more popularity they came here to Daytona and slayed it! My favorite is still 'Tommy the Cat'. You gotta give that a listen. Les Claypool's bass work in that is epic!
I saw them when opening for Rush. Mind blowing concert, and you could easily see that Rush selected them because both Rush and Primus did their own thing regardless of what the record labels wanted. Rock on Primus (and RIP Neal Peart).
Check out My name is mud. And for truly weird but fun Wynona’s big brown beaver. Les Claypool is a great bass player. He tried out for Metallica when Cliff Burton was killed.
I love this band. the album Sailing The Seas Of Cheese is why you have "steamy" cheese in the vid. Bit of useless trivia for you, Les Claypool went to school with Kirk Hammett!
WILSON !!! was a race car driver. i wanna see how dad reacts if juliet brings home a college guy dressed in his under roos like the leadsinger/bassist. steamy.
I really like the lyrics to this song. I see it as sort of an East Bay slice of life, with Captain Pierce having complex emotions about aging upon being forced into retirement from the fire department, contrasted with Jerry, a reckless young man who died too young in a street racing accident.
When the phrase alternative music was coined back in the late 80s/early 90s, you wonder if they had this band in mind. & Primus was one of those bands back in the day that it fit to tee! They definitely had a flair for the weird! 🤯😁✌🏼🤘🏼
Les Claypool is a prolific Bass Player.. many of 'Primus' songs are worth listening to have been listed below.. but they are most known for the theme song to the cartoon 'South Park'
It's a true story about one of his buddies that died driving drunk btw "Dog will hunt!"- is from the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as said by the character Chop Top Sawyer.
These guys made an appearance in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (the first Bill & Ted movie). Great live showcase. Check it out (most excellent movie too, BTW).
Id love to see more primus reactions. One Unique Niche song that is one of my favorite of all time. "One Better - Les Claypool and his fancy band" it has a MINDBLOWING xylophone solo
Les claypools voice is like that because he was in a bad car accident that made him partially deaf in one ear. Fun fact. Glad you guys like it. They are on tour right now. Go see it.
The bass player and singer are the same person, named Les Claypool. The best description I've ever heard of him is that "he plays the bass like he invented it." My favorite Primus song is Winona's Big Brown Beaver.
I really hope you guys check out a bunch more Les Claypool and & Primus. They are insanely good. Les Claypool is a GOD at the bass. Arguably one of the best to have ever lived.
It's so much fun watching your "reaction" videos (with lots of stuff from my "old days") Really enjoying them and I am glad I found your channel. I would love seeing you "react" to anything by Yngwie Malmsteen some time... best wishes, tjb
I think the this is similar to Al Dimiola Suite golden dawn staring at minute 2;36. If you like this style you should love this. This song is incredibly raw and funky. I put Al up there with JImmy Paige as far as an innovator. He plays many many styles. Some I dont care for some of it but some is other worldly. I you like Kashmir you should like Al Dimiola Mara Hari. Time timing on those drums [[O.M.G!!]]
"That's so weird..." YEP, that's Primus, alright! When Les Claypool (the bass player/singer) first started out, his father told him he'd never make it because he can't sing. LOL
This song was from the album called "Sailing the Seas of Cheese," hence the NACHOS. That being said you have to listen to Wynona's Big Brown Beaver. The lyrics are hilarious.
Hello, it's good to see your reactions !!! In the same vein, check out "Violent & Funky" or "Therapy" by Infectious Grooves. And similar style (out of the ordinary) Living Color (I recommend Time's Up)

Primus is different, not weird. I was supposed to see them live back on the 13th of August. They oversold tickets to the venue though and I was late getting there and turned away at the venue. I still have an outstanding claim against Ticket Master to get my ticket money back
Les Claypool, the bassist and singer, is in many bands, and one of the greatest bassists we’ve ever had. His newest band is The Lennon Claypool delirium, with John Lennon’s son
Saw the thumbnail, thought: "What th' hell are the girls going to make of Primus?" I've been listening to Primus for nearly thirty years, and I don't know what to make of them.
If you're going down this route I feel like you should try out "Flashback" by Tomahawk (the live version). I think you'll really appreciate the weird vocals the guy is doing.
So now you need listen to King Crimson’s Elephant Talk from 1981. Primus’ song borrows heavily from Elephant Talk, the bass line, the phrenetic guitar, the vibe. Please please do yourself a favor and see for yourselves.

It was a take on the Duracell battery commercials of the '80s
"Lacquer Head " by Primus is another groovy underrated song.
Super chunky bass
Best song off that album imo. So heavy!
Frank Zappa meets Jaco Pastorius meets Weird AL meets YOUR EARS👍👍
This may be the best description of Primus I have read yet.
@@bevil4aday Agreed : )
Funny you would mention Jaco. I think I know where he got the instrumental for this song. Paco plays on this one. Al Dimiola [From sea to the clouds.]

I’m seeing these guys live in a couple weeks-my first Primus show ever!
I’m seeing them as well, this Tuesday in Houston!!
I saw Primus live at Thompson's Point, a Portland, Maine outdoor music venue, 6 years ago or so. it was great... "lead-in" bands were awesome...
