- The list of things to do if fit and well during lockdown was almost endless. But for 23-time Isle of Man TT winner, John #McGuinness, he bought an ex-Simon Andrews #Honda #CBR600 and, with his son Ewan, rebuilt it into a replica of the bike he raced in the 2002 World Supersport Championship - a part of John's career often forgotten.
In our exclusive video, he talks to BikeSocial's Michael Mann about the bike's history, what he's done to it since... as a perfectionist, as well as his own years racing Supersports in the British and World classes, why things didn't go to plan, the competition, his fellow Brits and how it eventually boosted his career.

could listen to John McGuinness all day what a legend
Was about to comment the exact same thing! Legend!
Me too. I mean, me as well. (Nobody harassed me sexualy). I just love that guy!
Agreed. Give that man an podcast!
Have you listened to the Collecting Cars podcast ? Hilarious
Always love seeing Mcguiness...I have a fond memory of seeing him on the ferry to Isle of Man just after his crash at north west. No special treatment he just made his way up the stairs on his crutches into the main lounge and all the passengers cheered, genuinely gave me goosebumps hearing all the fans applaud him
Such a top bloke to listen to is John....no pretentious crap just down to earth nice guy. Met him a few times and he's very approachable and easy to talk to. He's genuinely just a bike nut like the rest of us.👍🏼🇬🇧👍🏼
😂😂😂😂. “Neil Hodgson was a bad tempered little prick”.
This is why I love McGuinness.!!
McPint is just a lovely bloke for a living legend. Salt o the earth.
I still ride a 2004 CBR600 F4i. And it's still an excellent bike, even at 17 years old. Made me very happy to see this: so much love (and bling!) being lavished on an old warhorse.
I ride a 2002 F Sport and love it! Great to see a legend like John giving it a thumbs up :-)
Legend and a down to earth chap you know you could have a chat with ,I've watched everyone of his TT race wins in awe that just an every day top chap can achieve so much .
What a nice man, love watching John race at TT, he has a brilliant line through Braddan Bridge.
A top man with a coat of many colours , TT rider, bike builder, Brickie and a loving husband , father and a good all round decent bloke anyone could wish to meet ❤️🦂
John is the most humble legend in racing. John and Joey will always be my go to class acts. Decent human beings and God's on 2 wheels. Well done 👊🏻👍🏻💯
I would take that John saying I’m not a bad rider 🤪👍
Hehe, dining out on that one!
Cheers, Michael
I had an F4 CBR as my first proper bike, cracking machines that are plenty of fun on the B-roads and comfy enough to ride all day..
That's some lovely block work in the background 😘👌
it actually is, so tidy and consistent.
That was my first ever bike.
2001 CBR 600 F4i same color!
Lovely bike. Glad John and Ewan brought this one back to life.
I ride a black and red 2002 f4i and this just made me love it even more
I brought Karl muggeridges bike from the Honda team that was the same as this. Great bike was very fast in its day. The engine was tuned by a guy called Mike deholda . I have video footage of a certain Neil Mckenzie riding mine at Jerez in Spain. Good times 👍🏻
Excellent video, Living Legend , thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Down to earth bloke.. Spent a lot of time chatting to me kids over the years at the star of Darley....Must owe him a packet of biscuits....
By reading all these comments it's quite clear that John McGuinness is incredibly loved by so many people. And rightly so. It's the beginning of May. And soon to be the TT Isle of Man 2024! Will John get his 24th win, Or his 48th TT podium? And will he be retiring from it after this year? Let's hope the legend gets the WIN🏁🇮🇲🇬🇧🏆🏍🥇
This was awesome. More of the late 90's early 00's bikes please
This guy is a total legend. 🤘🤘
Great video! I love the bikes from the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
He epitomises bike racing.
Truly
Thumbs up. Loved the conversation 👍
Fab interview and beautiful machine
I got a cbr600f4i and cbr954.
The 600 is up for sale but nobody seems to want it.
The 954 is a tribute to John funnily enough. Black 23
Good to see you John, Legend road racer I'm a massive fan of John i met his signature before on a hm plant production cbr honda low on the screen parked in glasgow city centre.
Awesome guy's cheers 👍🏻
What a bike! One of the nicest blokes in the TT.
John Mc, lovely bloke to meet 👍👍
Absolute legend.
Amazing! I hade a stock 2001 CBR600FS, lovely bike!
What a legend John is. Top bloke
John is a true enthusiast, also I spy a Harris Racing stand...their kit was amazing.
"I wasn't a bad short circuit rider, would you believe?"
Yes, yes we would believe that!
Anything John M has to say , i'm all ears, always tells crackin stories.
True.. this dude backs it all up.
Brilliant. Now how can I get an invite down the road to see John's collection........
John so under states his achievements & abilities , He built me a lovely garden wall
John thanks for that great comentry on that bike and the history attached to it rea lly enjoyed it how much will you take for it 😁😁 tipperary south of ireland
big john legendary kid 💯💪
John McGuiness is a credit to this country...hard to imagine a more humble un-affected superstar of his sport.
@iiredeye John McGuinness MBE !
John mcguiness is the best
John McGuinness, My hero.
Wish my f6 looked this good !
Unfortunately racing motorcyclists aren't very PC in this current world of sportsmen, yes MBE, CBE's are awarded of course but the ultimate accolades are only given to short career sportsmen with little longevity.
I think we should at least by now have Sir John McGuinness and Sir Jonathan Rea
That is not unfortunate. It means they are sane.
reckon the MBE awarded and presented from the queen or a royal family member ,
however the CBE , from honda !,
John was no mug on short circuits aswell. Good 2nd today on the Ducati aswell. Apsolutly gorgeous job on this bike. Hate using the word but yes he is a legand ✌️
I wanna have a go on that bike 🏍🏁
Pretty please we can ride it in 🇺🇸
epic !
that's the cleanest f4i i've seen in along time. lol.
I love my CBR600F Sport. Not a rocket ship but more than enough for me.
Should be Sir John Mcguinness. Make it happen people 🤔
F4i!!! I track one of those
wow. She is a beauty.
He is a tt legend kind of like how indian larry is a God of the chopper world.
raised the forks really high in the triple tree
The road bike had the bars above the top triple, he's fitted clip-ons below the triple, which makes it look really high.
intro music sounds like something Depeche Mode would do
If it's for sale .. let me know!
That's an F4i, not 600RR! Really cool story.
i have a 954 and that's what it is! not a F4i or 600r, a 954rr fireblade. You are very welcome.
@@cityturbofly sounds like you didn’t know your bike very well. Look closely at the air intakes, the right side up forks, and the unbraced swingarm. That is an F4i, it was my first bike, I know it well.
@@garylai363 the whole front end is cosmetic and a race fairing. the frame and actual bike is a 2001 honda cbr 954rr fireblade and he says its a 2001 954 in the clip. Look closer my friend. Hint the Petrol tank is original :)
@@garylai363 its a 2001 cbr954rr fireblade, they don't race 600's in the supersport.
@@cityturbofly it's superSPORT, which is the middleweight class (600cc). Litre bikes are superBIKES. look at the frame and swingarm, are those cosmetic too? they are from an F4i.
x23 TT winner.
Not much more to say.
I never knew Neil Hodgson was bad tempered.....
good story, dissappointed not to hear it running.
Surely he's made some decent money doin what he does, get to Turkey an get them teeth sorted man
