I was there and certain that Walker was going to win......... and then BANG. He walked past in tears. Still a champ in my eyes. Thanks for the upload, happy memories.
I was telling my Dad about this a few days ago and then it pops up on UA-cam. I'll never forget watching this as a 17 year old! The colour commentator has a Vince Macmahon thing going on with his voice!!!
I was there that day. I remember watching Walker patting the tank of his bike on the start line as if to say - come on, just get me round one last time. Absolutely gutted for him. A long ride home for me
Chris was a great determined racer....he was also very heavy on engines. He screwed every rev out of them on braking as well as at the top end. Yeh, sure your racing, but you'll never win if you cant make it to the chequered flag. To be a British or World champion take brains as well as bollocks.
Just picked up a 2000 model srad with only 2500 genuine miles. Came here to see the styling of the paint work on Chris's racebike so i can copy it! Its gunna make a great track / daytime mot bike😊 Yes this is still hard to watch....the worst way possible to go out, worse than a crash!😫
@@davidsmith-jj4iq really? Any person who attends rider briefings at races are made aware of the dangers of oil ect. If you've got a rider who can't tell if he's blown an engine (he looks behind several times) by the copious amounts of white smoke bellowing out of a machine are either dangerous or foolhardy. Furthermore has there ever been a rider in any championship who's won a race with a couple of laps to go with a clowd of smoke like that??
I think it was just determination to try and continue. But imagine if his oil caused a red flag. He'd have been champion. I cannot imagine that would have crossed his mind however.
Totally gutted for Chris... but he should never have carried on that long with that issue. If a backmarker had done that hed have been seriously punished.
The cause of the blow up was that an incorrect valve guide had been used when the engine was built - I was told this directly by Simon Green of Crescent Suzuki. Apparently the race guides and standard guides looked very similar and it was a simple mix-up - three cylinders had the race guide in, one had the standard guide in. I was at a lecture given by Simon in late 2004 and asked him this very question in a Q&A session.

Still a heart breaker all these years on.
He lost the championship but won many hearts. I was there at the top of Craner curves to see his dismount.

Whenever i travel down Harlaxton road, Grantham, and see Stalkers Kawasaki, i cant help but think of this race and the gutting way it ended.
I was there on the craner curves as 13year old, this was the day I converted to a life long stalker fan!!

Thank you for all of these uploads man! i grew up watching these and it brings back soo many memories!
thanks for this, been looking for ages
Walker must be the unluckiest guy in bike racing, such an incredible guy!
Possibly the bsb championship ever, went to many races that year, neither Chris or Neil deserved to lose that championship as both were fantastic.
Tears in my eyes. Such pain
I was there, Chris blew up, I was sat on the Dunlop bridge straight, 8 years old haha. 25 now.
27 now 😄👍🏼
I was there sat opposite the bridge
31 now 😂
If walker didn’t have a mechanical problem with his bike he would’ve won his first British superbike title of the year 2000

He didn't know what was wrong,it could have been temporary,he was after a championship, what else do you suggest ,telepathy.

@@danielt8960 So you know better than Chris Walker, and no one got hurt, except BSB got the wrong champ, get over it.
I was there that day really felt sorry Chris'
Remember this well.
Always been a Hodgson fan, but you HAVE to feel for Chris Walker here. He did everything right.
Totally gutted for Chris... but he should never have carried on that long with that issue. If a backmarker had done that hed have been seriously punished.
White steam out of the exhaust - looks like a blown head gasket. Was the cause analyzed any further?
Well remember this race. Apparently it was a stone through Chris's radiator!

Is that a gsxr or tlr1000?
GSXR 750
Fark me, it took him long enough to pull off, he only looked at it 3 times beforehand
A bit of Gamesmanship Maybe ?.
I was welling up,there is bad luck and then is Chris's luck.

Nice spot!
Fuck this is the bad luck.
Snubbed me for autograph at Oulton 99' went out of his way to do so.. Karma is a wonderful thing
