I’m so sorry this happened. I love your channel and enjoy hearing about your predictions of what may come from Mattel and American girl. Keep smiling!🙏😃
Love your channel and how you always have the latest AG updates. You did nothing wrong by posting images that were all over Instagram and on Amazon for days! So crazy and unfair you were given a strike!
I'm so sorry that happened to you! I'm glad your channel is ok!😃 It would have been better if they would have contacted you about it! You are right! I'm glad you will still be able to make videos!❤️
I know! It’s not like we got the images from some shady source in a dark alley - they were public for days on 2 very official platforms. AG /Mattel messed up and should own up to that.
Yeah, but they won't close down the channel unless Rainbow happened to do something egregious. They like the free advertising she provides too much - while rapping her knuckles for an error that wasn't her fault. And people wonder why everyone dislikes huge corporations.
For anybody who didn't see the book cover summer looks like Isabelle Palmer 2014 with pink hair in the back and she has glasses and shes helping her friend wash a dog.
It on AG,Barns and Noble and Amazon they put the book cover on the websites. AG didn't realize it until your video was up live. It's on AG their mistake not yours try fighting the copyright strike
Thanks for the new upload. You have a good attitude about it. It wasn't your fault. To be honest sometimes I miss the days when GOTY was a complete surprise with the speculation build up but if AG/Mattel is going to put out leaks and pre-release merch they'll have to be more clear on copyright. I think Summer Mckinney sounds adorable and it will be interesting to see which facemold she has. Always appreciate your channel and the time you take to make your content.
Their marketing strategy lacks direction, it’s just all over the place. Seeing GOTY reveal on January 1 was so special! Oh, well… I am excited for Summer too, we adore cats, which you can probably deduce from our channel’s profile picture 😻😺😸😽
honestly i don't think they really should have done this at all being that THEY are the ones who leaked the photos, through official platforms that they have given the rights to sell their products through, and left them there for at least 4 days before removing them. why did they start caring all of a sudden? it wasn't even a problem for them a few days ago so i don't know why they're just now deciding to gatekeep. the same photos are still available in other people's videos and on instagram and they aren't throwing copyright strikes at them, not sure why you seem to be the only victim of this. it sounds frustrating.
It does not leave me with a warm feeling about Mattel or American Girl. I tend to not spend money with companies that turn on their fan base, it's petty and offensive, frankly. There is always a secondary market and whatver it is a person is looking for, it's often cheaper than the primary market and I can choose where I purchase from. I saw your video and I never thought a copyright infraction happened. Bad form on UA-cam as well since they obviously did not investigate the matter and took Mattel's side without fact checking. Just my opinion, of course.
I can't believe a giant like Mattel bullied an individual like this! They could simply have asked you to take down the video and you would have done so. It was 100% an honest mistake on your part, given that THEY put the images into the public domain in error - and they didn't even notice for at least a week! The copyright strike is really, really unfair. How on earth were you supposed to know that you'd breached copyright when the images were out there? Such a stupid reaction by them.
This is awful! You didn’t do anything wrong PLUS you are one of their biggest supporters and but so many of their products. This hurts me for you. I feel like they (Mattel) needs to hear from us about this. Maybe a letter campaign given this injustice. Ugh again, I’m sorry and love your channel. Do they not realize how much your videos influence purchases, increase their customer base, etc.? Grrrrr
I'm glad I watched it! Mattel is being ridiculous 🙄 I hope @Mattel @AG contacts you and removes the strike! I'm guessing Summer will have the Marie-Grace face mold.
Aren’t they? So immature… I think Marie-Grace or Nanea face molds are likely, since we got them both in the TM line. I think the 2 look the most like the illustrations we saw, but that doesn’t mean much, we have seen GOTYs who didn’t quite match their looks in their books.
Can you fight the copyright, since it was public images? From one Cat to another, meow meow & keep up the good fight! Can’t wait to see Cat’s new video soon! 🦩👾

Hi. Though I'm not an attorney, I do deal with copyright issues on a regular basis, and you unfortunately made a very common mistake that a lot (actually most people) make. Many assume that because something is in the public domain it is available for free use -- that is not the case. You need to check a company's (in this case amazon's, B&N's, and Mattel's) fair use terms. Most fair use terms specify that you can use images for personal, not-for-profit activities only. Your UA-cam channel is public and, unless I'm wrong, it's monetized (you receive some sort of compensation). I'm in no way saying that you should have known this nor am I repremanding you. Most people don't know this. I wouldn't know this if I didn't work in my field. So even if Mattel leaked the images on both amazon and B&N, unless all three websites indicated that the images were available without any restrictions, you can't use them in a public forum (it's not just personal use) -- especially if you are making a profit. Again, I'm not trying to be mean, but this is important and I don't want you to run into this issue again. Just check those terms of use or fair use terms (usually hidden way down at the bottom of most websites). If the terms of use are inconsistent, assume the most conservative ones are in effect. Good Luck!
Thank you for the long reply! Unfortunately I am quite sure Mattel would do its best to remove any images of Summer whether they are on a monetized or non-monetized platform, and that is against the fair use clause . There is an option to demonetize certain videos, but I am 100% sure Mattel would have requested them to be taken down. I understand their POV, but it was their mistake and there are nicer ways to deal with their own mistakes. All they did was give me more content topics, so I guess it worked out in a way. Also I don’t think Amazon, Mattel, etc can make their own definitions of “fair use”, it is a legal term and must have a firm definition. Again, thank you for the long reply! ❤️
@@rainbowunicorncat1 Hi. Thank you for your reply! It's feasible (not saying that this is what they did -- they very well could have screwed up) that amazon and B&N had written permission from Mattel to use those images. They are also (obviously) for profit public platforms and they would have had to adhere to the same terms of use as you. Had you obtained written permission from Mattel, you could have used the book images as well. It's also very unlikely that either amazon or B&N would have put those images up without Mattel's express written permission. However, corporations, especially companies like Mattel that benefit signficantly from pre-release product hype, want to control how that hype is distributed. Some corporations take P.T. Barnum's approach, "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Mattel is not one of those companies, unfortunately. This is just my suspicion, but it's possible they wanted to drive up interest in the doll through very controlled channels -- or get it out in the public arena just long enough to whet people's appettites before taking it away. Whatever their game plan was, you are an unfortunate victim of it. They are definitely within their legal rights -- that's not the same as fair, but most of the corporate world isn't fair. Since you are a content creator, it's good for you to know about terms of use now so you can avoid copyright strikes in the future. You have the information. I think you'll be ok going forward. 👍
