I thought the same! So many UA-camrs blow insane amounts of money on their videos and sometimes it’s hard not to think about what that money could’ve done. That wasn’t the case with this video! All those kids are going to get a new friend, and if they’re well taken care of they’ll likely be worth even more money as they age 😊

I love how American Girl touches upon serious subjects such as Addy’s harsh life, including slavery, and Emily’s life, including her house getting bombed during the war. It’s very important to teach kids about the difficult times in history while including some fun and positive ones, such as Samantha being a wealthy orphan living with her grandmother and Cécile being born into a wealthy family, wanting to become an actress.

Her joy and enthusiasm for every doll and their accessories was fun to watch. She could have kept every doll but what impresses me even more about her is her kindness and generosity in knowing that these dolls need to be loved and played with by children not just displayed on a shelf or bed.

I’m 21 and watching this gave me so much nostalgia. I literally cried at the end! I had Addy and Saige (still have them somewhere at my parents house). I used to love watching UA-cam videos featuring the dolls. I even made a few stop-motion”films” of my own lol. My mom built me a dollhouse that was like 5ft tall with a bunch of handmade furniture. I learned how to French braid on my dolls and how to sew clothes and purses for them and my friend’s dolls. I loved playing with my American Girl dolls 💕 thank you reminding me of that time! @alitzahasdaiTheir name is literally “American Girl” for a reason. Since American history is tied to most of the dolls they probably thought it would not make sense for someone thats not American to purchase. I doubt it would be profitable to sell in other countries anyway.

I live in Sweden and buy these beautiful dolls second hand, usually at auctions. The second hand value is between $50-150 each, depending on which doll it is, the condition and how many accessories are included. They sell for the same prices in the UK too. So yes, there is a strong market for these dolls to be sold new in an AG store here, outside the US. I would rather spend that same money on new dolls available here.

When I was a little girl, having an American Girl doll was my biggest wish. I remember I used to carry around the catalogs with me all day long, just flipping through them and daydreaming of owning a doll someday, but my parents couldn’t afford one. Now I have my first child, a daughter, after a 5 year fertility struggle. She’s 3 months old and I just purchased a few American Girl dolls for her as her first Christmas gifts this year, and the way this has felt SO healing for my inner child-there are just no words to describe it! I got a little teary eyed at the end of this video 🥹

Okay I know I'm a couple weeks late to this but I have some fun facts as a former American Girl employee in Seattle! Each doll takes years of planning and designing before they're launched and they put so much love and care into every story including doing extensive research into and collaborating with each culture they portray which I've always loved about the company. Plus a little humble brag: the author of the Maryellen books, Valerie Tripp, was visiting the Seattle store for a signing in, I believe, 2013 and met one of my old managers, Mary Ellen, who made such a positive impression, Valerie had American Girl name the doll after her! She even had them give her red hair like her namesake! Also one last fun fact about Maryellen, because she had polio, if you stand the doll up, you'll notice one of her legs is marginally shorter than the other. They don't miss a single detail.

Words can not express the feels that this video brought back to me. My identical twin sister, who tragically lost her life in 2022, grew up with American Girl dolls in the 90s and 2000s. We were born in 1988. I still have the original 3, Kirsten also being my 1st doll. Samantha was my sisters 1st. along with several others. We also made our own twins ( who at the time both looked a lot like Kit) in the early 2000s when they still had the American Girl Doll store in Chicago. My nonni would take us every year for our birthday. I still have my dress that matches Kirstens original dress. I know they are worth money, but there is no amount that would ever let me sell the,m. They have brought so much joy to my nieces and still to myself. Thank you for posting this, it let me sit back and remember some of the happiest moments I had as a kid with my sissy. xoxo Jax

I remember begging my mom for Kit every time we'd get the American Girl catalogue in the mail. She'd tell me it's too expensive and never bought one (despite the fact she or my dad had spent a great deal of money on expensive gaming systems for my dad). Anyways, it wasn't until April of 2023 that I went to the local American Girl store near where I live with my partner (who convinced me to buy her). We went to the store, I found her in her OG outfit, I grabbed her box and straight up almost cried in line. It was such a healing moment for me and absolutely love her.

Who knows, maybe one of the kids will grow up and reminisce about their first American Girl doll and do a video like this one. Back in 2000, our mom would only buy me and my sister two dolls each after much begging, but we had to read all that doll's books first. I got Kaya and Samantha, and my sis got Felicity and Josefina. Reading all the books was actually very fun and interesting. The amount of research they did was astounding, but also the themes they tackled for young girls to read and understand was eyeopening and an amazing way to teach history that young girls might not otherwise learn. Even after, I read the other historical girl dolls because the stories were just that great. We still have the dolls in good condition since our mom would emphasize taking care of them (they were expensive!).

i LOVEDDD Kaya omg. as a little native american girl growing up in the 2000s, i rarely saw girls in shows or toys that looked like me. i'd always have to settle for the hispanic or asian characters in games or toys. when i got Kaya, i fell in love with her and my family got me all her books, her horse, her horse's foal, her dog, and a new regalia for Kaya that had jingly bells all over it. young me did give Kaya a haircut and it kinda ruined her hair but we brought her with us when we visited Chicago and we went to the american girl doll store salon where they rebraided her hair into one singular braid.. so my Kaya is unique!

I played all the American girl games, read the books, watched the movies, and got the catalog every month. This unlocked so much nostalgia for me. I’m a 2003 baby so American Girls were so popular when I was growing up, but they got more expensive as time went on. My sister and I both had Just Like Me dolls, and then combined we had Kaya, Josephina, Felicity, Elizabeth, Molly, Lindsey, and my last one was Addy. My sister always wanted Julie and I wanted Julie’s room decor 😅 funny story is that my sister and I got Molly and Lindsey from an estate sale and they were both pretty well loved. My Molly had a broken eye that got replaced some time before with a completely different color eye. At first I was upset that she didn’t look like the “original,” despite her being the 1986 original version, but now I wish I had cherished her unique history a bit more 😔 also, because the dolls were so expensive and we had so many already, my mom would just buy us the mini versions if we wanted a new one haha. I remember having mostly all of the best friends, like Cecelia and Marie-Grace.

I appreciate you not recording the kids at the childrens' hospital as you gave the dolls to them 💗 it's nice to see a youtuber who does kind things without shoving cameras in peoples' faces while they do it

This made me cry. They were so part of my childhood and meant the world to me and it's beautiful to see how much Kirsten meant to you. The whole time I was saying out loud she needs to keep the Kirsten!!! I am so glad you did.

Kirsten was my absolute favorite. I never had her or any American Girl doll, but I read all the books multiple times over. I went through a phase where I constantly pretended like I was her, I'd do the braids and put on one of my grandma's aprons then practice sewing using some of my grandma's fabric scraps. One year at Christmas I even talked my grandma into letting me take some dough & braid or loop it the way it was described in the book 😅 I don't blame you for keeping that one, I think we all have memories of those dolls whether we owned them or not.
And seeing you donate all those dolls to a children's hospital made me tear up. You're a truly wonderful person Hope. May 2024 bring you so much success and happiness.

You can tell the quality on the original 3 are so much better than what they are today. I would have kept all 3 of them and Courtney and Julie, but I know you made a lot of little girls really happy.

Yeah, but they are also cheaper than they used to be. Someone used an inflation calculator and if they kept up with inflation they'd be about $190 in today's money.

@@abrielle13 I’d be willing to spend more on a quality toy that will hold up over time. The new dolls are cute, but the originals are beautiful.

When I was a kid (I think around 2008ish), I modeled as Kit for an American Girl fashion show that was put on every year by the Omaha Junior League from 1991 to 2016. I can still vividly remember getting my hair done and practicing where I was supposed to walk. Getting to put on the iconic Kit outfit with the hat and having pictures taken of it was so surreal. I remember that the girls who were Felicity and Elizabeth had fan props and they had to memorize how different positions of the fan to communicate different messages. This video was such a trip down memory lane for that weekend, thank you!

I was obsessed with McKenna when I was little. American Girl Dolls were expensive though, so I ended up getting a generic brand doll who I loved named Abby. I would make little objects for her like little lamps, I would buy things off eBay, and would even make clothes for her. It's beautiful that these dolls are going to children who may need a little love from a friend they can play with!

I really enjoyed this video as someone who grew up in the UK and first heard of American Girl through friends from the States. I'm currently also volunteering at a museum where we are currently doing an object handling session of different dolls around the world's, which includes Kaya. It was really cool to see how excited you got about her and the rest of them. I teared up at the end of the video too. God bless you for your lovely positive content ❤

I used to have the original Felicity and Addy back in the 90s!!! I loved them so much and kept them up until this summer when my apartment basement storage room was flooded with sewage. I cried for weeks, but they were so far beyond repair with mold from the sewage I had to throw them out. But someone took them from the dumpster!!! I hope whoever got Felicity and Addy in this video loves them as much as I did! Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I definitely cried watching this!

I shed a few tears at the end of this. My family was really poor growing up so I never got an American Girl doll. I was always really sad because all my friends had one and I really wanted one. 🥺 I remember I either borrowed some of the books from someone or the library just to feel included. For some reason I connected with Felicity and specifically wanted the doll of her, but I would have been happy to have any of them. Now that I have a daughter of my own (and another on the way) I hope one day I’ll be able to get them one of their own. 💜
