@@chadarcher84 the changes what they made were actually good and they didn't cut anything too important. Like I understand y they cut narg, opening rand scene and all. It's tough to fit everything in 1 hour. I really like what they did with perrin here which justifies his behavior in later books, mat's changes gave him more character in this 1st ep than the books did in the entire 1st 3 books, I like that they aged up the characters(it's not practical if they r kids). But I agree that the 1st episode is weak and I would only give it a 6.5. The 2nd and 3rd episodes are much better structurally and they both will be a solid 8. I would highly suggest for u to watch the other 2 episodes b4 judging it. It's like u r going to a interview and they judge u based on 1/3 rd of ur resume. If u r upset the manetheran speech was cut out it's actually there in ep 2 and thom intro is in 3rd ep and it's great.
@@Kal_Al_Thor it's not that I'm ungrateful or ignorant (not indicating you are implying these things) it's just I'm a VERY detailed oriented person. There is a reason things are made the way they are. I get that the aged them up married perrin and what not. I get it I do. Yet, if you look at it from another perspective, there's a reason the first book is the slowest and almost the longest. It's a masterpiece that is laying the foreground of what's to come. These things eventually happen in later books character development wise but it's truly a disservice. Things happen as they are meant to for a reason. They're meant to be young. You're meant to grow with them, to see how they go from who they were to who they're meant to be. Same stuff was done to the Shanarra Series but Shanarra was worse and just a down right travesty. Idk that's just me.

I enjoyed it a lot, some changes I'm not sure about yet, but nothing offends me. The casting is solid, a surprising stand out for me was Nynaeve, when she roars back at that trolloc that was her, never back down.
I'm so glad you guys really liked it. They just keep getting better from here. As a fellow book reader, sure not every single little change is my favorite, but it FEELS like the wheel of time and that's what matters
Loved the reaction and I really enjoyed the shows! As a book reader, it is refreshing seeing your reaction and not listening to everyone complain about changes. I understand the frustrations with the changes but I also just want to have fun and enjoy Rafe's (showrunner) vision for the show! Can't wait to see the reactions for the next two episodes, I think they are even better! I'm sold and can't wait for the end of the season like Adam was hinting at.
Perrin wasn't married in the books - he, Rand, and Mat, had just turned a marriable age. 'Coincidentally' Egwene had also just turned a marriable age, despite being 2 or 3 years younger.
I like that one of you knows the books and one is seeing it without expectations. I’m in Jay’s camp but know lots of nerds love the series so my expectations are high.

I love The Wheel of Time books and show, I love pReview'd. I do not know how I missed your reaction to this. Seeing Adams face light up at one little name drop was just priceless. Ah well, back to binge watching the rest these reactions now I know they exist 😂
When the trollocs showed up I hope I'm not the only one who thought "Oh, the Brayherds have come... well this is gonna be a pain for the next few turns..."
One episode in and pretty good so far! I'm curious to see why some things were added and some removed. I know it's somewhat to condense the story, but I'm not certain how yet. Also, we couldn't go three pages of Nynaeve without her tugging that braid; how you gonna give us a full episode without one Amazon?!? Good video guys!
Knowing what I know, I think the Perrin scene will feed into future plot beats, but in that moment, when she grabbed his pinky, (briefly made a point of her doing that as her cuddle) was her trying to say, 'It's ok, I get it, not your fault"
Perrin’s wife has already sparked some interesting theories in the fan base. I can already see several reasons as to why they added Laila, and how her existence will be utilized in adapting the story for TV.
IMO, they gave Perrin a wife to streamline his character for the audience. In the books, his personality is based on a lifetime of experience; the show made it into one traumatic incident. It makes sense. He’s very introspective, and that can be difficult to translate from page to screen. As a longtime book reader, I don’t mind if they change the plot, as long as they stay true to the characters and themes. So far, I am very satisfied with that. Definitely looking forward to more.
@@Tzoppo11 A lot of fans of the books (which I am one) expect a straight retelling................ it's 14 books, 12,000 pages, 4.5 million words and 2,800 characters....... that was never going to be possible. It has to be adapted, not retold.
@@RandomStuff-he7lu Exactly. I'm just constantly amazed by how ignorant these morons are that they don't understand that very simple fact. I'm glad you're a reasonable human being who understands these things.
@@Tzoppo11 just because some people may not like it does not mean they are morons. I have been reading the books since the 90s before they were even finished. I didn't think the tv show needed to "create" a wife for Perrin just to Fridge her in the same episode. That's basically what that was. I called it nearly a minute after I saw her on screen. I looked over and said, "she's pretty much dead."
@@dave6270 I don't think everyone who didn't like this decision is a moron. I agree that right now, it seems like a pretty classic case of fridging and I knew the moment he walked in the forge and they gave us a taste of their relationship that she was dead. The morons are people who say " I can't understand why they did this! They ruined the books! They fundamentally changed Perrin! This is terrible writing!" You're allowed to dislike the decision. People are not going to sit here, however, and spew bullshit like that and not have me respond to it, especially when they have no clue what goes into storytelling, adapting a novel to film (especially one like this where so much is in our character's heads), and apparently can't see the VERY clear line they're drawing to have a very similar arc for Perrin (fear of hurting people, hating his axe, etc). Additionally, she was going to swing on him. She was absolutely going to try to kill him. Not a trolloc left standing in that room and when he kills her, she's about to split his skull. That takes this out of fridging territory for me if she's a darkfriend and about to murder him. So then that criticism kinda melts away for me. Bottom line - its not terrible writing, it's not remotely lazy, it keeps his arc in tact and also gives us a brutally dramatic and surprising scene, it gives him a FAR more real motivation for hating his axe, and the show has done a great job capturing the souls of these characters and their relationships thus far. The folks who bash the shit out of it with obvious hyperbole and not a shred of critical thought for why they might adapt it this way pisses me off. Especially considering that both Harriet AND Brandon have consulted on this, been on set, and are there every step of the way, along with Rafe being a super fan of the series since he was a teenager. So many of the haters have NO CLUE what has gone into this production. I have qualms, I have criticisms, but they're reasonable and based on things that exist in reality. The lion's share of criticisms I've seen about this have been fucking ludicrous and moronic.
Liandrin was always one of my favorite characters so I was thrilled to see her in the first scene of the series. Nice surprise. Also, Moiraine's scene at Beltine was another one of my favorite parts of the book, and they really did it justice. Wow, this series is off to an amazing start.
I just started watching this last night and so many scenes reminded me of all my favorites (GoT, The Hobbit and the whole franchise) I also found myself repeating Dany's line about the wheel...
You definitely should read or listen to the Wheel of Time books if you get the chance as well. George R.R. Martin was friends with Robert Jordan and Wheel of Time helped influence his series. "Breaking the wheel" is definitely a concept that predates Dany's reference too
Absolutely loved your reactions. Especially the difference between the both of you in this. Especially all the winks and nods from Adam which I can totally relate to it.. So looking forward to the other episodes with you guys....
It looked like Perrin's wife was going to kill him, she was behind him and about to bring the hammer down, the trolloc was already dead and she had behaved weird the entire episode and was probably planning to use the attack to make herself a widow ... she was clearly not as much in love with him as he was with her, there must be a reason why they chose to portray the marriage like that.
I heard someone mention that her strange behavior was implying a recent miscarriage which is why she was isolating herself and not joining the celebrations
Really? What I saw was something not fully explained other people watched an thought she was pregnant. There was clearly some isolation going on. Perhaps we will learn later. In the mean time we have a very good reason for Perrin to avoid axes.
@@Echidna23Gaming I think it makes sense, considering the moment he holds her and touches her belly, and then when he kills her he hit her on the same spot and all... got me thinking

The filming locations for Season One of the Wheel of Time are the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, and Spain. I've linked what I consider to be the go-to source for information on the production below, funny enough if this had been your source of information all along you wouldn't have been misled into thinking there was 6 episodes in season 1, nor surprised to find out that there are in fact 8. 😁 Glad you both seem to enjoy the show as well, it warms this longtime fans heart to see all the love Wheel of Time is getting.🥰 I give episode 101 Leavetaking four stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Trolloc raid on the Two Rivers during the Winternight festival is spectacular, the hint at Tam's skills we get on the al'Thor farm is very well done. The locations, the sets, and the costumes are wonderful. The cast proves themselves at every opportunity capable of embodying the character they are portraying. The weakest point of episode 1 Leavetaking is the timing structure is inconsistent through the middle and the ending feels like it was a forced byproduct of runtime. I think the pilot may have been better served with an additional runtime of 10-20 minutes to allow a bit more time in the middle to linger a bit longer with some of the characters and their interactions. www.wotseries.com/

What the Aes Sedai do to Rand, what Elaida planned to do to him when he reached the White Tower, was just plain evil.

Been reading these books it seems like almost half my life, very excited to watch the show. Watched all 3 last night and can't wait for more
Literally joined your fam. I love this show and your reactions is fun.
As a book fanatic, I was surprised and quite satisfied with this adaptation. The 1st ep was rushed but I think it'll find its feet. I didn't even mind the changes they made. Allows character arcs to start without 6 books to lay the foundation.... can't wait till episode 4!!!
I was losing it at all of Adam's suggestive eyebrow waggles, haha. There were definitely a few times I saw his expression change at something that he couldn't comment on for fear of spoilers...I kind of would love to hear your thoughts on some of the diversions (especially regarding the cosmology regarding the nature of the Power and the Dragon) but it's hard to do that without spoiling things!
OMG so fun watching when one of you have read the books and the other has not. It´s the perfect reactions, we get like two for the price of one. Love it.
Adam's huge smiles and wink at ... well everything is me screaming at the screen, there is a LOT of hints for those who ave read the books and it's awesome
So happy you guys are doing this show! First 3 episodes were solid a 8/10 for me
You obviously are fine with great books being shit on. Only watched episode 1 so far myself and yet I'm very disappointed.
@@chadarcher84 well I've read all 14 books three times and I'm enjoying it so far. It's an adaptation, not a word for word copy of the book.
@@fullMetaLxMantis the thing is there is a difference between adaptation and remaking differently.
I love watching you guys watching something and reacting the way I do...it makes my heart happy.
This reaction was priceless to me! Adam, you made my WoT loving heart so very happy throughout this reaction - I didn't know you could have so much pure joy and excitement! Definitely a fantastic pilot episode! And I loved finally seeing the origin of the Oxford Comma! Jay's reaction after Perrin killed Laila just broke my heart. Thanks for taking me back to my first experience of this episode guys!
I enjoyed it a lot, some changes I'm not sure about yet, but nothing offends me. The casting is solid, a surprising stand out for me was Nynaeve, when she roars back at that trolloc that was her, never back down.
So glad you read the books
Best recations! Thank you guys! Nice to have book reader and novice side by side. I love to see Adams I know whats going to happen smile :)
Wow! Congrats on 1K Patrons!!! You deserve every bit of it!
Perrin wasn't married in the books - he, Rand, and Mat, had just turned a marriable age. 'Coincidentally' Egwene had also just turned a marriable age, despite being 2 or 3 years younger.
Love Adams reaction during this entire thing. Will definitely be getting this series next.
Loved it! And she says she's not at her strongest when she's working with earth....
I like that one of you knows the books and one is seeing it without expectations.
I’m in Jay’s camp but know lots of nerds love the series so my expectations are high.
Been waiting for this all day since you're the only reaction channel I follow that I know is gonna watch the show haha. I'm so unbelievably hyped, the first 3 episodes blew my expectations out of the water! I just hope you don't spoil him too much and tell him what's coming.
And btw they shot it in the Czech Republic
Czechslovakia hasn't been a country for nearly 20 years 😅 I think Czech Republic was the country you were looking for.
@@JediKnight20043 lmao total brain fart. I changed it
Really enjoyed your reaction to the first episode. Can’t wait to see you watch the other two. I’m a long time book fan and I am loving the show!
Automatic upvote for "you sneaky bastards" because I played in a punk rock bank called Sneaky Little Bastards once upon a time before UA-cam.
Rand reminds me more of Cal Kestis from Jedi Fallen Order than Hayden Christensen, but I can see it. It's also a ton of fun to see Adam knowing what's coming and being a sneaky bastard about it (see what I did there!).
I just stumbled onto you guys recently and I'm loving the reader/non-reader dynamic! I've been a fan of the books since the 90s and have loved the series so much
You gained a new sub. You guys are so fun. I love your personalities.
I have been waiting ALL DAY for this and finally can sit down with a drink, a bowl, some chocolate, and watch Adam act like I did and Jay be so damn confused.
Having binged the entire season in one sitting before watching any reactions, I can enjoy Adam's foreshadowing, smiles, nods and looks. 😁
First thought when Rosamund Pike’s escort came through the door and paused for dramatic effect was…yo, dude- you mind shutting the door? It’s cold outside.
I am liking this show. Glad you’re reacting to it.
I also really appreciated Jay's genuine reaction to the moment with Perrin in the battle.
I love The Wheel of Time books and show, I love pReview'd. I do not know how I missed your reaction to this. Seeing Adams face light up at one little name drop was just priceless. Ah well, back to binge watching the rest these reactions now I know they exist 😂
It was shot in Prague in the Czech Republic, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Bovec in Slovenia.
9:25 “Who ordered the stripper?”
Funny you should mention that….
When the trollocs showed up I hope I'm not the only one who thought "Oh, the Brayherds have come... well this is gonna be a pain for the next few turns..."
Hey, Adam. I immediately thought the same thing. Red haired Hayden.
Two scenes in and the hype-dancing is killing me 😂 love it!
Adam when Jay said are the rings lightsabers I immediately said the Schwartz line too 😆
One episode in and pretty good so far! I'm curious to see why some things were added and some removed. I know it's somewhat to condense the story, but I'm not certain how yet. Also, we couldn't go three pages of Nynaeve without her tugging that braid; how you gonna give us a full episode without one Amazon?!? Good video guys!
I love this show and i am glad you’re reacting to this! Moiraine is lit 🔥🔥🔥
I’m happy to see the actor that played Roose Bolton is working again 😍
Knowing what I know, I think the Perrin scene will feed into future plot beats, but in that moment, when she grabbed his pinky, (briefly made a point of her doing that as her cuddle) was her trying to say, 'It's ok, I get it, not your fault"
Anyway, always love Rosamund Pike
She my favorite character so far in this show.
She killed it. She would also have made a good Liandrin. But the Liandrin they found was scary AF.
I have never seen Adam so animated. It's a joy to watch
Did anyone else clock that Rand's father is Ruce Bolton from Game of Thrones?
Yep. Roose Bolton.
Know the feels, Adam.
Amazing battle !
Perrin was not married in the book but it will add a lot… to his character later.
I was surprised when I saw that but can’t wait to see what they do with him
Perrin’s wife has already sparked some interesting theories in the fan base.
Exactly. It's ASTOUNDING to me that the naysayers can't see this. Asinine.
This is terrible writing!"
You're allowed to dislike the decision.
"Breaking the wheel" is definitely a concept that predates Dany's reference too
Really looking forward to the rest of the series
Lan Mandragoran is a bad mother-
“Shut yo mouth!”
Just talk about Lan.
Absolutely loved your reactions. Especially the difference between the both of you in this. Especially all the winks and nods from Adam which I can totally relate to it.. So looking forward to the other episodes with you guys....
Great reaction, I had the same reaction as Adam when Padan Fain came into the scene, love me some Padan Fain.
LOL!!!! "Crazy party, huh guys?" 😆
"I don't feel funny today" then proceeds to tell a comma joke that is actually funny.
I have my problems with some aspects of the adaptation, but overall I'm really happy and excited for more. The casting is **chef's kiss** perfect
Adam I right there with you bud! I have read the series several times and am looking forward to what they bring!!!!
As big of a fan I am of Wheel of Time books. You guys added the best comic relief that is much needed for the show. I can't wait for more.
Theory out there she was a Dark Friend....
I heard someone mention that her strange behavior was implying a recent miscarriage which is why she was isolating herself and not joining the celebrations
She could be a dark friend,, because of the dream of the wolf eating..
But the Trolocs were fighting with her too🤔
The Perrin/Laila fight scene had me stunned! Completely hooked me for the series!
We are only one minute in and have already got to hear Adam sung!! And Jay! This is already off to such a really good start and we haven't even started with the main even!
Very good start.
Thank you Jay and Adam for reacting to this series. Much appreciated.
I agree those rings are probably important. 🎼 “Every kill begins with Kay”.
Loving the reactions of non-readers especially, and good to see a reader and non-reader reaction together!. Look forward to seeing more.
I’m glad I subscribe to you all bc it piqued my interest to watch this show, also… it was shot in Prague, Czech Republic!! I’ve been telling everyone to check you all out so we can get Adam his bday plaque!!

i love ur guys channel and ive never heard of this series before whether it be a the books (im guessing it was a book series) or this series, but im gonna watch it now. It has peeked my interest
Great reaction! Can’t wait to watch this with you guys
Glad you both seem to enjoy the show as well, it warms this longtime fans heart to see all the love Wheel of Time is getting.🥰
I give episode 101 Leavetaking four stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Trolloc raid on the Two Rivers during the Winternight festival is spectacular, the hint at Tam's skills we get on the al'Thor farm is very well done.

Don't forget to watch the Wheel of Time Origins episode included with each episode of the show. They're short 2-4 minute animated backstories. Look in the X-Ray bonus material menu. Very cool.
oh, really? I was wondering what that was...wow, I need to go back and watch it :) Thanks for letting me know.
… is it a bit different than the books ?? yes. but I am all in - this is fantastic !!
Thanks!
Watching Jay grit his teeth early on when Adam wouldn't stop rubbing it in that he knows what's going on was something. Part of me wanted to chuckle but the other part of me wanted to stick up for Jay and tell Adam to zip it. Lol
