They definitely were not a one hit wonder. Please do more Tears for Fears - Mad World, Shout, Head Over Heels. Also, if you haven’t yet, check out Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus.
"Advice for the young at Heart" is also a great song by them.
Shout. Shout. Let it all out.
These are the things I can do without. Come on.
I'm talking to you. Come on.
Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains...etc.
Yes to all of these. Especially Head over Heels.
YES! Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
One of the biggest hits ever - SHOUT by them - biggest hit of the decade. ICONIC song. Band was prominent in the 80's until they broke up = recently re-unitied.
YES!
Shout, Head Over Heels, Mad World, and Sowing the Seeds of love were all hits, too.
Yeah...and i am supposed to believe they have never heard this song before...ok whatever??
Break It Down Again is also a hit.
@@CaptWalker Dave... I think they only listened to Rap before.
This song may just typify the eighties for pop music. It was a massive hit. Everyone loved it. And over the years, it has held up. It is a perfectly written pop song.
A lot of good miles were gotten out of that Fairlight CMI, the Prophet 5 and the LM-1 for sure
This song is beautifully crafted, it's flawless.
Check out "Everybody Wants to Run the World" by them, it's actually an improvement.
“Welcome to your life, there’s no turning back…“ What a profound beginning to a song
It's a brilliant opening line.
Amen ❤
Tears for Fears was a part of the “Second British Invasion” that included bands like Duran Duran, Bananarama, Depeche Mode, Human League, and so many others. All the good Brit synth pop/alternative music of the 80s. If you know the 80s, you know Tears for Fears. You guys really need an early to mid-80s teen movie night with 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Better Off Dead. Fill yourself with 80s stuff and you will never again have to wonder what decade an 80s song came from.
And all of the second British invasion was helped immensely by MTV in the early 80s. Those bands are so well-known now, but probably would've never been known without MTV (you know, the channel that stands for MUSIC TELEVISION, but never plays music anymore, and hasn't for about 25 years now)
Right On! They like alot of UK British Groups met in School or as Children. They were luckier than ost Duos like Wham and even Hall & Oates because they each took turns singing lead. The Drummer is Manny Elias and their Keyboard Player is Ian Stewart. They also had a Song called "Mad World" that was covered by Gary Jules and someone used it to pay homage to folks who died of AIDS. In 1985 when American Bandstand celebrated 33 1/3 Years on The Air they did their Follow Up "Head Over Heels". Also if you listen carefully the Guitar Riff may have been inspired by "Don't Mess With Bill" by The Marvelettes.
Oh my Depeche Mode. There is a band they need to hear.. and Bananarama is perfect for Female Friday
The Police
Don't forget the movie Real Genius where this song was used.
This came out exactly in the middle of the 80’s. It epitomises and exemplifies what 80’s music was all about
Tears for Fears was VERY popular in the 80s. They definitely were a band that had a lot of great hits and you instantly knew when a new Tears For Fears song was played. They just had a sound. Shout was a great song
You would think that if they did a little research on these legendary groups, that they would know all the answers. To a, that Tears For Fears, had a lot of hits. And b, that their music is from the 1980s. Of course it's from the 1980s, that means it's very good. Have you heard today's music, it's hot garbage most of it. It's annoying how he always points out the obvious. Great reaction though. 🤣
This was from ‘85. A few other major songs by them are “Head Over Heals”, “Shout”, “Sowing the Seeds of Love”, “Mad World”, and “Woman in Chains”
Evan Great song recommendationsI love all those songs. 👍❤️✌️🌼
Woman in Chains will blow you away!
@@IntelFanatic I completely agree!! Love that song!!
Lol, the video and the denseness of the arrangement for Sowing The Seeds Of Love would blow Jay & Amber’s minds!! Fabulous tune, love it!
This is the Quintessential 80's song. It just stops whatever I'm doing when I hear it. No other song encapsulates the entire decade like this one
THIS SONG..defines my 80’s.
Ending of Real Genius...
That's the first (and immediate) image that comes to mind whenever I hear this song. All that popcorn flying around!!
Now your opening Pandora's box, must do more Tears For Fears....
"Head Over Heels"
"Sowing The Seeds Of Love"
"Woman in Chains"
"Shout"
"Pale Shelter"
"Mad World"
My favorite of theirs is "Break it Down Again".
Sowing the Seeds of Love - great song.
'Woman in Chains" Awesome song!!
Great suggestions! I'm about to listen to all these now! 😁
@DV... Glad I could help 🤣😂
Tears for Fears- "Shout", "Head over Heels", Their second album, Songs from the Big Chair (1985), reached number one on the US Billboard 200, achieving multi-platinum status in both the UK and the US. Songs from the Big Chair contained two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". The latter song won the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986.
Very well said.
These guys today still sound as good as they did back in the 80’s. One of the best songs from that time period
Fun fact! The line "So sad they had to fade it" is a very public dig at their record company, who made them fade out the 7" single version of "Shout" the year before very much against their wishes
Can't say it enough. The 80s had GREAT music.
Thick with nostalgia for me
As a kid growing up in the 90s I thought 80s music was all garbage. Looking back decades later I'm like 'whoa, we actually tossed away all these great songs and artists'.
All us kids were listening to was grunge and hip-hop. And then later on pop came back at the tail-end of the decade.
No doubt about it. ❤😂
Tears for Fears was very popular. Other hits: "Sowing the Seeds of Love," "Change," "Shout," "Mad World." Even their songs that were not big hits are good.
Don't forget "Head Over Heals" and "Pale Shelter" too! ;)
@@oneesan9298 and "Woman in Chains"
@@oneesan9298 Oo, I forgot Pale Shelter in my recommendations. That is an amazing one.
air guitar solute to you my friend
I remember having Pale Shelter on 7'' vinyl when I was still at senior school first year! TFF were huge in the 80's. 'EWTRTW' was re-recorded for Sport Aid too, under: Everybody Wants To Run The World. Sowing the Seeds Of Love, I can remember that being played as the very last song on Atlantic 252 as well.
This British duo was underrated, their powerful voices and iconic melodies still live on, definitely not “one hit wonder”
"underrated"? Songs from the big chair sold over 10 Million units. They were really big back then.
Totally agree! My favorite of theirs along with "Shout"
@@xII_RoyalTI_IIxDefinitely not a one hit wonder
Underrated? Are you for real ? Hugely popular band
This song is such an iconic time stamp in my life
“I can’t stand this indecision married with a lack of vision” … always loved that line
my favorite line... i used this line in a staff meeting at my last job to show my utter dissatisfaction with a new proposal.
Madworld is one of their best Def not a one hit wonder. Also, Pale Shelter, Shout, Head Over Heals, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Change
Mother's talk
Man I forgot about sowing the seeds of love - great song!
@@nancyburke8745 Amber would really dig that song, I bet. It's 80's hippy.
Curt Smnith did a cool version of MAD WORLD with his young daughter last year during the pandemic lockdown. It's kinda cool. ua-cam.com/video/NEpfvTdR5-U/v-deo.html
Woman in chains
Soul to Soul - back to life ....
This is, without doubt, one of the best songs ever written, saw them live a few years back, amazing, going to see them again this weekend, can't wait.
Sowing the Seeds of Love is another incredible song of theirs
...very Beatles this song .
the birds and the bees
@@lauce3998 it is, big George Michael vibes too.
They are both lead singers, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark are another great 80's band, OMD for short.
Yes, but choose any song except "If you leave", it's the worst. I hate her.
I was just listening to Tesla Girls!
@@lauce3998 - Ironic. It’s the only I ever liked from them. Imo. Lol
I get 15 or 20 songs of his without thinking too much. They have one of the best of them I can remember.
@@lauce3998 Heh. I like "If You Leave," but my favorite is "Forever Live and Die." What a great melody, and something a bit different.
They’re such a great band and they were HUGE, they’re still going to this day!
Tears for Fears is a vibe like no other! A truly unique sound that no other artist has ever come close to matching! They were huge! Bring on the 80's trance!
LOOOOOVE Tears for Fears! They were one of the defining acts of the 80s! Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal were magic together, and GET THIS... they just released new stuff this year, 40 years after forming! "Shout" is definitely one to check out, as is "Head over Heels", "Sowing the Seeds of Love" and my personal favorite, "Laid So Low (Tears Roll Down)".
I was going to say Shout too! Definitely the next TFF song to check out!
Two great singers in this band. Curt (in the pink shirt) sang lead here. Roland, the guitar player, sang back up on this, but lead vocals on other songs, such as "Shout".
You're the only person I've seen who has ever mentioned "Laid So Low". Such a beautiful song, and my 2nd favorite of theirs (sorry, nothing will unseat "Head Over Heels" for me). If I'm not mistaken, Curt Smith was not involved in the making of that song?
@@Johnny_Socko Correct. That song was released in 1992 after Curt left, leaving Roland as the sole lead singer. I'm happy the two are back together and still performing.
You need to do the Crowded House song “Don’t Dream It’s Over”, and Peter Gabriel’s song “In Your Eyes”. I PROMISE you will not regret it!!!!
any crowded house song sung live - he wont regret it
The live version of In Your Eyes.
Yes, just yes!
Dream Academy "Life in a northern town"
"Don't dream it's over" is one of my favorite songs of all time ❤️❤️❤️
This is just such a well crafted song. Sounds fresh as a daisy today.
These guys were HUGE.
EVERY and I mean EVERY 80's kid MUST admit that when you think 80's music this comes to mind every time
Well, while i love this song, not necessarily.... there a lot of other songs that come to my head when i think 80's music, this too, but not necessarily first choice for me, but then again i have literally hundreds of songs in my head, instantly, when i think 80's music...
@@conan5885 k
As a 90s baby who loves 80s music, this song is on my permanent Playlist since highschool
@@conan5885 I always think of ABC the look of Love, and this, and west end girls, and wham, and and and lol 80s was such a special time I was 13 in 1980 so was bang on me becoming a teenager.
? My 80's music was The Cocteau Twins and Aztec Camera.
Tears for Fears are the opposite of "One Hit Wonders". In 2021, they were honoured with the Outstanding Song Collection Award at the Ivor Novello Awards. They have had so many hits in the 80s ands 90s and in more recent times been covered by Lorde, Gary Jules and Kanye West.
They were covered by Disturbed also. Shout. 😁
@mister stubbs And great live too. I've seen them live 5 times since 1983.
One of my favorite songs from this group.
One of the most beautifully composed songs ever, coupled with a statement...and I am right of center.
This is just such a hypnotic song. "Head Over Heels' is another one of their big hits that's just as good.
Yet, hardly any of their songs, make sense. But i love TFF.
This song was such a revelation back in the day. It was inescapable. One of the hits you never got tired of hearing no matter how much it got overplayed by the radio stations.
Such a massive classic tune wishing more was produced today's World 🌍 well done Tears For Fears
Hard to believe this is your first time! This is my all time favorite 80s song. Takes me back to my childhood.
it's not their first time, react channels only use that as a clickbait
Shout! Guys, “SHOUT!” While “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is in my top 5 all time favorite songs for the vibe of it, “SHOUT!” is the MUST HEAR from “Tears for Fears!” MUST!
When my 40 year old son was little he loved this song. Instead of singing 'There's a room where the light won't find you' he would insist on singing 'There's a room where the wife won't find you' I had to sadly tell that no, there wasn't!
There is. Its called the pub
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha
The loft?
I love this comment.
Tears for Fears song writing is so genius, but no one seemed to realise how great their songs really were.
“Woman in Chains” please. 🙏
TFF were MASSIVE in the U.K. in the 80’s and into the 90’s with three amazing albums.. all superb.
Fun fact... they lifted the drumbeat for this song straight off Simple Minds “ Waterfront “ which is a must aswell!
Tears for Fears had a whole string of hits.
Some of my favorites are: Shout, Pale Shelter, Head Over Heels, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Mad World, Change
Finally! Someone mentions Pale Shelter! It's too bad no one ever ever mentions one of my all time favorites from them...'Brian Wilson Said' from 1993
Head Over Heels is my favorite T4F song but the video is strange
@@corkydukeII5898 Back in the 90's I had a blog titled Pale Shelter named after this song. It's one of my favorite Tears for Fears songs.
@@cherylwhite4408 You've got good taste Cheryl! Thanks for the shout out! Blessings to you.
@@corkydukeII5898 yeah Pale shelter is my favourite song from them
A Tears for Fears journey is not complete without "Shout" and "Sowing the Seeds of Love."
Head Over Heels too
I absolutely adore this song along with Shout. Such gems.
This was definitely one of my late dad's favorite songs, thinks of him now when I hear this classic song
Yea! 80’s alternative music- New Wave. They were not a one hit wonder and had a few hits in the 80’s. “Shout” is probably their biggest hit. There is a ton to explore in the New Wave genre.
This song was actually used in the movie “Real Genius” with Val Kilmer in the “80”s.
It was also used as one of the songs in the Pixels movie
LOVE that movie!!!!
Yes! One of the best 80’s movies!
I made the same comment type comment with it being in this movie! One of my favorite 80's movies!!
Came here to say this. And I did...but then I noticed you did too.
Such a feel good song. Lyrics are great.
Tears For Fears were huge in the 80’s, so many great songs: Head Over Heels, Pale Shelter, Woman in Chains, Break it Down Again, The Hurting, The Working Hour, Mother’s Talk, many more.
Working hour wasnt a hit but it has one of the best sax solos of the decade.
@@voiceofraisin3778 should have been a hit, imo. It’s got that slow build to it, very atmospheric. The sax is great. Think Working Hour and the Hurting are pretty underrated in their catalogue.
Shout.
@@maureencollins5177 sure, and Mad World, Sewing the Seeds…too many for me to list 😅
Tears for Fears had a lot of hits throughout the eighties. "Mad World" "Shout" "Head over Heels" "Sowing the Seeds of Love" "Woman in Chains" and loads more. Although you've reacted to many artists on your channel you've still got so much more to learn and many more bands/ singers to hear. Much love from England 🏴
You've missed there Best song out "Pale Shelter"
Sowing the Seeds is a masterpiece.
Many memories with Tears for Fears.
Another great '80s hit, "Broken Wings" by Mister Mister. The lead singer has a fab voice (great range) and when this song came out, you just knew it would hit the number one spot.
❤
One of the UK biggest bands , unbelievable they played in Dublin and blew us all away .❤
One of my favourites from the 80s. They were much more than one-hit wonders. Produced at least three successful albums. They had another massive hit with 'Shout'.
This is one of my most favourite songs ever 🥰
They are a band from the UK and have had many hits…..Head Over Heels, Shout, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains. I believe they have just/or are bringing out a new album at the moment ❤️
Always my favorite also! 🙂
@@marierosemary3768 ….I’ve even told my husband that I want this played at the end of my funeral and everyone has got to dance and sing along 😂😂
One of my favs too!.. 🎶
Such a cool summer song and still sounds fresh today
This song by Tears For Fears epitomizes what was so awesome about the 2nd British Invasion. The video was shown many times on MTV upon its release. I was 25 then, and my set was always on MTV.
Tears for Fears definitely an iconic 80's band. Mad World and Shout, also two great hits from them. Also, I will keep recommending Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out, an absolute essential for your 80's collection!
Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out - a classic!
This song is timeless. It sounds as fresh now as it did when it was released. It's as relevant as it ever was and it always will be.
YES!
Nailed it
They re recorded it in 2022. They sound EXACTLY the same. They look a helluva lot older but sound THE SAME.
One of the best songs ever written!
Fight me!
The definition of cuteness is your family!!!
Their first big US hit was "Shout." They also had this one, "Head Over Heels," and "Sowing The Seeds of Love" (which has big Beatles vibes). "Mad World" was a hit in the UK for them but the haunting cover version by Gary Jules was a US hit many years later. (Speaking of cover versions, Lorde has an amazing cover of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World.") My very favorite Tears For Fears song is "Mothers Talk"! Btw, the two guys, Curt and Roland, switch up who sings lead. This was Curt; Roland sings lead on all the others I mentioned except Mad World. Both their voices are lovely, but Roland's is a bit stronger.
I got into the band at the start while they were in Graduate in Bath. The Hurting with its singles Change and Pale Shelter alongside Mad World, still remind me of childhood holidays in Scarborough. Listening to copies of the album recorded from vinyl to cassette tape..
Huh, never heard of Gary Jules.
@@peacefulpossum2438 wasn’t that the Donny Darko cover.
@@markgibson3034 Yup!
@@peacefulpossum2438 He did a much slower, haunting version. Adam Lambert also covered it and I like his version also.
Head Over Heels and Shout are two more of their songs that I really like!!
YES. ♥️
This song was number 1 in the USA in 1985. It was also in a lot of movies like straight out of Compton. Tears for Fears is my all time favorite band thank you for your reaction to it. I love watching your reactions to music specially 80’s music.
One of the best songs ever made
hearing Oleta James live sing their song "Woman in Chains" was awesome. Tears for Fears was one of my most favorite HS and college bands. Their album, "The Hurting" takes you on an emotional roller coaster that is insane.
Oleta Adams met the band in Kansas City (I was working at the lounge where she and her band played) and they mentored her and took her on tour. She has an amazing voice!
Definitely not a one-hit-wonder. TFF is one of the most widely admired/respected bands of the '80s. Great songwriters, artists, and musicians. Other musicians love TFF.
Shout, Change and Mad World are other tracks that were hits for them … Shout is my personal fave from them …… what a voice he has too and still today too !! Saw them a few years back and amazing live even after the long hiatus …..
☺👍
Thank you for saving me the time to type, Charles!👍
@@Islendingar , I would add 'Head Over Heels'.
And PALE SHELTER.
"Sowing The Seeds Of Love" (the parent album of which is great and recently came out in a 4-CD special edition) is probably the most obvious next Tears for Fears track to react to. My favourite album of theirs is the much under-appreciated "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" which is fantastic from start to finish and still their "latest" studio album despite being 17 years old. Good news TFF fans: they have a new album out next year!
These guys were huge. This song was also used in the movie Real Genius, which is wonderful and funny and you should definitely watch.
They just received an Ivor Novello Award ( basically a British Lifetime Achievement Award) for outstanding song collection so no definitely not a one hit wonder. I would definitely recommend Shout, Mad World, Head Over Heels/ Broken, Working Hour (one of the most underrated songs of all time), Mothers Talk, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains, and Advice for the Young at Heart.
Also, Pale Shelter
At the time we were still in a cold war and the nuclear stockpiles of the US and Russia were a major concern. We all grew up waiting for the end of the world and to me this song relayed that anxiety.
Well Said!
“99 Luftballoons” too!
Rhis is such a timeline classic once that opening lick you just know who this is!! Love this.
Tears for Fears are marvelous. Y'all have just scratched the surface of this band. Enjoy
You have to hear the OG “mad world” and also“ shout” , “head over heals” , “Change” and “woman in chains”
They Had Many hits Their Most popular was Everybody Wants to Rule the World but they had Other Smash Hits like SHOUT and HEAD OVER HEELS So they Wasn't a 1 hit Wonder but they were an awesome 80s Band

Head over Heals, Shout, Mad World & Sowing the Seeds of Love are all great too!
They just released their newest single last week, "The Tipping Point" off their newest album of the same name which will be released on Feb 25th 2022. First album in 17 years.
Tears for Fears has some bangers.
Amber would love the 80's hippy vibe in "Sowing the seeds of love" (also, horns!)
Jay would prolly dig the mood in "Shout" (also, cowbell!)
One thing about 80's music, it was FUN. 👍🏿
Shout, Head Over Heels, Mad World, Sowing the Seeds of Love. These are all good songs.
There are still many many bands and artists that you probably never heard of that are really Great!!! They were really big in the 80's
Never call them a one hit wonder! “Head Over Heals,” “Shout,” “Sowing the Seeds of Love,” “Mad World,” “Pale Shelter,” to name a few
A 1 hit wonder is classified as any band that has never had more than 1 song that hit #1 on the charts 10 top ten hits is still a 1 hit wonder.
@@daviddow8150 wrong, it’s a group or artist that had a song in the top 40 only once. They are pretty much only known for that song.
This is from the album “Songs from the Big Chair” released in 1985 and it was a great album with several very good songs. Listen to Shout and Head Over Heals.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of 2 things: (1) The movie "Real Genius" and (2) being 5 years old and living a much simpler yet fun life at that age in 1985. Oh how I miss the 80's and wish I could just keep reliving that decade over and over again. I've got "Songs From The Big Chair" (original release) on vinyl and it sounds flawless!
I agree - I miss the 80ies soooooo much! The best time of my life, and the coolest decade musically ever!
I love that movie AND always loved when this song comes into the track… such a beautiful blue sky and optimism!!!! The song alone separately from the movie makes me smile!!!!😊😊😊
You are on to a fabulously talented band, most of their songs have a deep meaning, you will not be disappointed by these guys, from Bath, in England.
Pet Shop Boys is one of the best groups from the Brits at this time. The song, “What Have I Done To Deserve This” with 60s legend Dusty Springfield! Check them out! Or “It’s A Sin” was their 1st #1 hit!
Yes! I was about to suggest Pet Shop Boys!

TFF were one of the biggest bands of the 80s in the UK, and much of the world. Catchy tunes, clever thoughtful lyrics, and they weren't afraid to experiment. Very much like Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, and The Human League. They all had loads of hits, pushed the limits, and are still going strong.
Specifically, this song is the 1980's.

A group that seems to be getting more respect (deservedly) as time goes by. Two solidly talented musicians and songwriters. They just put out a brand new track last week as well.
Shout, Mad World and Sowing the Seeds of Love
There were more #1 hits (more than 140) during the 80's than in any other decade before or since. So, even though you've reacted to a lot of 80's bands/groups/artists, you still haven't scratched the surface and there is still so much more awesomeness that you will eventually discover. :)
Exactly!

Thinking the same....they've barely scratched the surface of the 80s
The first few bars of this song is like a time machine for me!! Takes me straight back to childhood. An absolute fav song of the 80’s ☺️
Brilliant track my favourite track of the 80's
Songs from the Big Chair Album was huge! This was one their many hits.
Another great 80's group to add to your growing list is The Thompson Twins..any of their songs I think you'll like. You asked if this song had been used in a movie..it was heard over the closing credits in the movie Real Genius (1985) with Val Kilmer. One of my favorite movies.
