    Very useful videos, thank you very much. I don't understand why TC Electronic can't be bothered to make decent videos like this themselves- they should be paying you for your time and effort! The Hypergravity was going to be the next on my toneprint series, and I actually started it a long time ago, but other stuff came up, life got in the way, yada yada, and the notes I made for the script are sitting on my hard drive somewhere... that said, I had a few ideas in the meantime, so I'll see if I can bump it to the top of the list soon. 5 days later: The quality of sound is outstanding and was a big improvement to my old rig but it took me 2 days to figure it out. I am used to editing my Line 6 with my lap top. I tried that with the Plethora and had a really hard time. There isn't much information available for it. Probably because the Toneprint app isn't all that great. When I gave up on on Toneprint and began to manually program the unity It went much smoother. Ultimately I opted to set up just 2 boards and leave them. I then routed the Plethora in to the effects loop of my Line 6. All in all I think it was a great addition.

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  5 місяців тому

      The TonePrint app is mostly designed to edit the toneprint templates (not the artist toneprints), and it wasn't designed from the ground up to be released to the public, hence being rough around the edges sometimes. And as it comes to the Plethora specifically, it's only designed to rename boards and move their order around; it's not designed to load the effects slots themselves, only edit / tweak what you put in them within the Plethora hardware itself. It's can be a bit weird, especially in a marketplace where even the less expensive offerings have full-blown software editors, but once you realise the limits of the TonePrint app and work mainly in the hardware, it starts making sense. ...and the toneprint offering inside the Plethora is so broad that you might not even feel the need to tweak any further anyway.

    Thanks a lot for your TonePrint series! An absolute must for everyone who wants to master the endless universe of possibilities offered by the TonePrint technology. As a side note: watching this tutorial based on the Plethora I though I wish my HoF 2 could have both the MASH and the Expression pedal capabilities. And in fact, this could have been easily done even on the existing pedal connectors' configuration: it would be awesome, if the Input 2 socket could be configured in the software to accept standard expression pedal input. I don't know if the actual sockets are TRS or TS, but even if they are TS only, it could still work with some expression pedals that offer such option. After all, TC made the new Flashback 2 delay capable of accepting a foot switch into the Input 2 :) I wonder if this could have been implemented via a firmware update... Maybe... Please... )))) Wishful thinking :)

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind comments! 🙏🏻 And yeah, I suspect at this point it might be wishful thinking, but if you really want the expression pedal and have a bit of board space to spare, you could try and get your hands on a HoF 2 X4... 😉

    • @silentguitarplayer6430
      @silentguitarplayer6430 2 роки тому

      @@PedalPlatform If I were prepared to invest that much board space, I'd rather go for Plethora X3 :) Regarding expression pedals, MASH etc - depending on how the HoF2 is designed (the actual cirquitry etc), adding expression readout capability to Input2 can be anywhere between "totally impossible" and "a simple FW update" :) Speaking of which, another wish to TC on my list would be to introduce some sort of "MASH Latching" functionnality into the TonePrint editor. I.e. a user can be given an option to use MASH to ramp up and down between two sets of controlled values, where the pedal would, let's say, "latch" a MASH value when you step on MASH first time, and then "release" it when you step on it the second time, ramping down back to "DEFAULT" values. Could be very useful, because for me one of the biggest downsides of MASH compared to the actual expression pedal is that you cannot keep "mashed" values, which sometimes is very handy.

    Do you have (or do you know of) a video that talks about what some classic pedal settings would be for the various parameters? Not just the rate/ blend/level, but the other more esoteric parameters like high cut, changing the curve on parameters, etc. I have the plethora and I’ve never designed tone before, and don’t understand how the various options on the editor work with one another. It would be nice to learn how to create the same tone from the delay that would begin as a stereo analog 4+8., then talk about all the other parameters in the delay and how they change the sound and work together. I would like the same kind of deep dive on the tremolo function (try to make a classic tremolo sound like an old fender amp) and the reverb module (start with sounding like an old spring reverb from a fender amp) and then go from there.
    In other words, start with a classic sound that is commonly known, and talk about the principles behind the various other parameters and what they do with it. I am having trouble getting there on my own.

      Hi Douglas, glad I could help! I don't have those videos yet, but I am working on them as we speak :)
      In the meantime, @TCElectronic published an excellent series of videos with Tore (their former product manager) and Pete Thorn (@sinasl1) called "Everything you need to know about..." where they explore most, if not all, the TonePrint effects with a good explanation of most of the parameters. You can find the one about delay here: ua-cam.com/video/-nu-lvRHBW8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TCElectronic, and the other ones should be easy to find on the "up next" tab.

    Thanks for the great guides to Plethora and TonePrint Editor. My instrument is a contrabass guitar and my goal is to construct a Plethora effects chain that leaves the signal dry below ~300Hz for a clean bass tone. A lead tone should emerge as I get into what is the low-to-middle register of a guitar. The input EQ setting on Subnup works perfectly for this. Output EQs on delay and reverb do not fully filter the input signal. I hear the effects even in registers below the LoCut shelf or cut when using output EQ. Have you found input EQ settings on other Plethora effects?

    • @PedalPlatform

      Hi Wolf, I'm going to have to double-check, but off the top of my head I think the only other effect that has input eq filtering is the Hypergravity... I'm working on toneprint guides for all the effects though, so it'll come up in the near future.

    My problem is that parameter s jump back to the template value after I save them. For example on the harmonizer, I have a preset with mixolydian mode selected. It always jumps back to Lydian mode when I bring it up.

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  Рік тому +1

      The "jumping back" issue is known, and more of an (annoying...) feature than a bug: what happens behind the scenes is that whenever a TonePrint gets loaded / saved, it takes the parameters from the current positions of the knobs - whatever they are. Check this video / timestamp for an easy workaround: ua-cam.com/video/QG0TXDK-dP8/v-deo.html (it involves creating flat mappings for the parameters that you always want fixed). Hope this helps!

    Sorry for the late comment. Any help at all is appreciated. I have the flashback II pedal.

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Kevin, it does make sense, but unfortunately what you describe can't be achieved with only one Flashback II. For the hold function to work, you need the feedback at exactly 100%, and to turn off the input to the delay engine, both of which run against what you''d like to achieve. I go into more detail about the hold / drones in this video ua-cam.com/video/-Zn_YxJgKEQ/v-deo.html, and *a lot* more detail about editing Flashback toneprints in this one: ua-cam.com/video/oTvgdHGA4V0/v-deo.html. What you're trying to achieve would really need another delay pedal - and that's the exact reason I always use more than on my boards (or a Plethora 😬). Sorry for not being able to help more!

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  3 роки тому +1

      No bother at all. 🙂 But the answer is no, that feature hasn't been implemented, the only tap tempo available at the moment is through each individual footswitch, but you can't use MASH at the same time on that particular effect. But if you're following on from your previous question, you can keep MASH activated for the hold function on one delay slot, and have tap tempo activated for another slot where you don't need the hold function. Hope this helped!

    I subscribed as these videos have been a life saver. My first question I didn't see in anyone else's comments is an issue I have had with all the tone print pedals I owned previously and still have with the Plethora is that after I have spent a ton of time tweaking and have the perfect sound...when I hit save half those setting jump to something else and destroy most of my work. I read somewhere that some say it is due to differences in settings in Mash, Expression, etc. from where the physical knobs are set on the unit. Is there a way I can set up from the beginning to avoid this jump in parameters when I save. I really don't use a lot of those settings but that jump is frustrating. The next thing I wondered - is there a way to map a hot knob to the parameter for setting delay duration like quarter, eighth (4 8 8. 4+8 etc.) so I can set up my delay but be able to change those durations quickly like the switch on the top of the X4 for example? Thank you so much!

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  3 роки тому

      Hi Matt, thank you for your kind comments. 🙏🏻 As for your questions:
      1) That happens because as you correctly said, when you save the presets, the pedals will read the position of the physical knobs, and any mapped parameters will take the corresponding values. The only way to really stop this from happening is to map the parameters with flat curves, i.e. always read the same value for every knob position. Of course this will stop you from being able to tweak without the app, but if you're looking for effects that you want to be fully locked into one sound, it's the way to go.
      2) You can, but in a sideways manner - hot knobz can only be mapped to the physical knobs, so you'd have to pick one of the default parameter mappings that you'd be comfortable with losing (for me that would probably be time, as I could still set that via tap tempo), and map the _Subdiv Up_ parameter to it. Then, map the hotknob to that knob, and it should work exactly as you expect it to.
      Let me know if this helps!

    How to create ducking delay in Plethora's Flashback delay 2. Which parameters must I set in editor?

    • @PedalPlatform

      You have to edit the 'dynamic' parameters in the main delay tab, or start with a template that already has ducking enabled (the 'dynamic' template, I believe).

  • @nevenlisica

    I don’t get those artist’s toneprints in editor app library. They are not loading properly for auditioning the sounds. For example: if you set the 3rd knob (mix of delay) on the device to zero and then click on artist toneprint from library, the mix value is on zero! That way you cannot know how the artist had dialed in the mix value, etc. how can I audition the artist toneprints? Even if I save them to device, same thing happens...

    • @brendanpmaclean
      @brendanpmaclean 4 роки тому +1

      As I understand it, Tc electronic has locked artist TonePrints so you can’t see how the sounds are made using the editor. You can change some parameters using the Plethora itself, however, but only the ones specified by the artist.

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  4 роки тому

      Any parameters that are mapped to be controlled by the physical knobs on the pedal behave that way, they always get their reading from the knob position. Once that position is set, then the values are committed to memory, so that they don't go all over the place when changing boards.

      Sorry about the delay, I've been under the weather again, but essentially nope and nope. The app only sends toneprints, doesn't retrieve them (I'd also prefer to be able to fish them out of the pedal, but here we are...), and the artist toneprints are locked by design because some artists preferred their settings to be hidden - which lead TC to keep all this section away from prying eyes.

      For the time being, you have to create and populate the boards on the pedal, then edit the effects (and board names, if you want) from the editor. There have been a few requests for a full editor based solution, so we'll have to wait and see where TC takes this.

  • @nevenlisica
    @nevenlisica 4 роки тому +1

    Final question. With firmware 1.52 there are enabled midi commands for turning 5 footswitches on/off (CC 102-105). I have tested and it is working. What about turning for exm. 2 footswitches to on/off at the same time? Would it work?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  4 роки тому

      Yeah, just send the 2 CCs and it'll recognize them. It should be alright with sending them at the same time, the only situation where it'll ignore any CCs is within 500 ms of switching to a new board, while it's loading the new parameters, so if you need to send a PC to change boards and then a string of CCs to turn slots on/off, you need to wait at least 500 ms to get them to be recognized.

I already have - it's on the "10 tips and tricks" video: ua-cam.com/video/SXZsEOUv_44/v-deo.html :) The Plethora saves all changes as you make them, so there's no need to press any save buttons anywhere, just create the board, add effects, tweak the parameters and you're good to go.

    Hi, I have recently bought the Plethora X5 and I love it. Though, 2 things make me reconsider to send it back. 1. Especially on reverb sounds I want a mix knob, and set it to a full mix? I can't find it (also not in the app) in the pedal settings. There's always an input signal. 2. With the use of an expression pedal it seems that the plethora is only giving either 0 or 100, despite I have set it up diffently within the toneprint. I hope you can help me with these issues! Thanks!

      Hi Paul, let's start with the expression pedal first: which model are you using, and did you try following the calibration procedure under Settings \ Global \ Exp Calibration?
      As for the reverb, you can use the "kill dry" switch under the Router tab in the app to remove your dry (input) signal from the mix. If you don't want it to be a permanent thing, you can assign it to the MASH switch so that your dry signal goes through under normal conditions, and when you press and hold the MASH switch it kills the dry sound, giving you a 100% wet mix. Hope this helps!

      @@PedalPlatform Yes, I've calibrated the expression pedal. Now, I've set the kill dry as a router option for the expression pedal. That'll do the job, although it is quite abrupt this way. I'll go and mess around with the input and fx level to see if I can get a more fluid transfer from dry to wet. Thanks!

    Hey Filipe, dumb question but im struggling with Pleth and just setting the delay subdivision that I want on a particular toneprint. I can see that if I go into the editor there is Subdiv Up, Sudiv Mid and Subdiv down - do you know anywhere can find out more on what these each do or in any of your videos?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  3 роки тому

      Hi James, it's not a dumb question, it's something that isn't very clear on the editor. For the Plethora, just use the first menu (Subdiv up). The other two are there for the standalone Flashback pedals that have a little 3 position subdivision switch. I hope to have a video about the Flashback soon, but in the meantime if you need more info just let me know.

    Hi sir, thanks for your video. Some of the spectracomp presets contains a fixed noise gate, that i can see in the "gain response" tab... but i can't adjust it. Do you know a way or hack to modify it ? cheers

      I'm sorry, I don't have a SpectraComp, so not sure how that could be done. 😔

    When I click the knob mapping knobs as done in about 4:28 of the video, I can only move the "circle" up-down, not left-right. Delay 1 on the left is not responding either. What am I doing wrong? Anyone?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  3 роки тому +1

      Bueller? Bueller? 👀
      You're not doing anything wrong - the circles can only be clicked up or down. The movement left to right is given by position of the pedal's knobs (or expression pedal, or MASH switch, if your pedals are so equipped). So if you sweep the knobs / exp pedal / press MASH, you'll see the circle move left to right along the line defined by your circles placed up and down, if that makes sense! 🙂

    I'm trying to follow this tutorial but when I choose the 2290 template, the pencil icon is still greyed out as is the 'store in board' icon at the bottom of the screen. On the 'Boards' tab it says, 'No TonePrint has been selected on the pedal'. If I flip between Play & Edit on the actual unit it says 'Edit Boards from App' in Edit, and 'Empty Board' in Play. Can anyone help?

      Hi Patrick, sorry you're having some trouble with it, can you just tell me what firmware version you're using on the Plethora, what toneprint editor version and platform, and if you're using a mobile device, are you connecting via bluetooth or cable? Just trying to get the lay of the land...

      @@PedalPlatform Hi, The solution to the problem was that the X5 is a pedal in it's own right and appears in the templates list. You must select the X5 template first and then you will see the pedal templates that can be incorporated on the board. 🤘

    Hello, how to transfer my custom tone prints at laptop to my mobilephone ?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  4 роки тому

      Hi, it's not possible to automatically transfer toneprints between devices at this point. TC have mentioned on their forum that they are working on that, but for now the only way is to recreate the toneprint on your mobile phone.

    Hi Philipp,
    I have a question concerning expression pedals usage and toneprint programming.
    Problem with expression pedals appears when I use several PX5 boards and change between them by midi.
    When I leave a board after having used the expresssion pedal, its position could be anywhere, so when I enter the new board, the expression pedal position is not read, the parameters it controls are set to their default values in that board ( am I right ?), and if I start moving it there is a huge jump between the default parameter value and the new pedal position.
    I hope that my english is enough clear to explain the problem ?
    Have you any idea on how to fix this problem.
    Thanks

      Hi Christian, I think I got what you're trying to say - I'm not sure I'll have a fix, but give me a few days and I'll try to come up with a video on this subject.

    If to create a preset you need an external hardwere, computer, tablet ... etc, I think it's horrible !!!!

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  4 роки тому +2

      I look at it this way - you don't need any external hardware to tweak the basic effect parameters you'd find in most effects pedals (time, feedback, level on the delay pedals, etc), while getting awesome sound quality. But what you do get if you use the external hardware is access to stuff you wouldn't find anywhere else at this price point, and the possibility to tweak it to exhaustion... for me it's a win-win situation 😁
