  • So this was a very cool experiment.
The Plethora X5 shown here under several forms of midi control. Wireless midi control and usb midi control via OnSong, Audiobus3.
The wireless bluetooth midi dongle is a CME WIDI Master. A prototype that will go into production shortly and should be on the market by the end of June.

So, This was prior to the bluetooth? So I'm thinking this $35 app might be a good solution, for the time being. I'm thinking I need a MIDI machine of some kind, because I also have 2 other MIDI machines. I can't afford the Helix, but I was thinking about the Boss MS3, or a One Control type of box. Thanks, Alec!

There are a plethora of solutions actually. And a whole lot of overlap between them all. Me I use OnSong for the graphical ease and style though this is quite a work around. Midi designer pro is an Uber cool app with a lot more features but the interface is way more techno looking. In some cases this is better. If you’re looking for something more old school I dunno. I’m very particular about that stuff.
For actual midi foot controllers I would shove you hard in the area of decent ones like the Morningstar or the pirate midi ones. A blind shove. I’ve gone through many many many a controller now and what counts in the end is the editing software and amount of messages you can send. Otherwise it is all the same metal box with switches and maybe a screen. It is becoming a bit of a jungle which is a good thing I guess, but best to have a deep chat and see what is what rather than throwing your hard earned cash at just anything.

@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist I'm starting to understamd the jungle. I am looking at many options, for switchers, I am trying to keep that as basic as possible, because I do not understand the MIDI thing, very well. I know you have to match CC numbers..that's about it. But as far as programming the Plethora, I need something i can sit upright, to use, and being able to see the thing, and adjust on a screen, would be great.. I'll check out the other App, you mentioned. Thanks! I know I'm a pain. I got a couple of ideas from the FB group, too.

@@sandyturner1911 hey man. Give me a buzz on messenger . Me I use the plethora on my desk and remote control it from the floor , I’m dipping in and out of it all day long and need to see those screens and twist knobs right in front of me without bending over all the time. I also mix and mash up turning on and off pedals so a floor based midi controller runs my whole rig. Not just the plethora but 4 or 5 pedals all together.
No way in hell could I remember all that tap dancing, so I let the toys work it out for me.
Ideally I’m rigging all this nonsense together so I can drive it from anywhere you know. Chilling in a hammock and strumming away. Just touch a button on the guitar and stuff happens. Will be happy to go over ideas with you.

Can you explain in basic terms how to do 8:24 of video?

What do you mean? To connect hxstomp to plethora ?

Sorry, i was vauge, but i put the X5 in the loop of hx and was having issues, but when I moved the fx block in the path the x5 sounded better. I thought a B path would be better but placed in A and moved around and it is okay. I haven’t tackled Midi yet but wanted to see if you used the x5 in the loop of the hx and had great results

@@corv1981 yeah you should have no problems, so long as you use a TRS to dual TS cable from the stomp send

@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist actually I use two ts cables in the loop send return of hx and mono in and out of x5. How would the trs from hx send to x5 ts, ts work and would it better? Just trying to maximize my connections to make sure it sounds best

Is the latency in patch changes in the plethora via MIDI annoying? Or it just takes time to get used to?

    • @AlecBourneMidiMadScientist
      @AlecBourneMidiMadScientist  4 роки тому

I actually am finding it faster via midi instead of the front switches. Not that I'm clocking it in msecs but yeah it is noticeably faster sending PC commands into it.

@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist Thanks for confirming. I saw this video earlier showing the time lag when changing boards on the plethora via MIDI. It kept me holding back on getting one. ua-cam.com/video/gTAjGDGDnH8/v-deo.html
The audio is in Japanese but english subs are available.

How do you rate the reverb and delays on helix compared to plethora?

Well mate, sorry I have not answered in a long time but I've been fighting some pretty heavy health issues the last 6 months.
This is a good question and perhaps worthy of another video. Would be a good midi exercise as well.
The X5 doesn't yet do global tap tempo but there are ways around this, and as a tone generating modulation gunship it has a lot of tricks helix doesn't.
It is harder to respond in UA-cam comments as it is text only so if you like join the conversation here.
