If you were around in the 80's and 90's and had an interest in music gear, the pedal on my bench today doesn't need much of an introduction. If you weren't, or didn't, but you own a TC Electronic Flashback delay pedal of some description, you'll have come across the 2290 moniker, and come to know it as "the" sparkling clean digital delay sound on those pedals. I came up with a “15 cable” method! Guitars into a Boss LS2, send A goin to ToneX One, from there, it goes back into LS2, Send B goes into ToneX Pedal, out from there it goes into X5, then effects loop send to LS2, then to a Tube screener, then to a wah, then back to the X5 loop effects return. The X5 stereo out goes to interface 2, which then goes to a UAD Apollo X twin via SPDIF. Well, that’s the plan anyways. Of course it’s not working though

    So that means I can Save presets to PC or Import someone presets through this app to the pedal?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform 4 дні тому

      Yes / no situation... you can import any preset from the editor to the pedal (templates / artist toneprints), and you can create your own from the template section (not the artist ones, those are locked for editing), and you can save them on the PC; but you can't swap with other users, or move them to another computer, as there is no import / export function yet.

Question I can't seem to find the answer to: in the final mode you demonstrate, can the "Type" or frequency range center be set differently for Channel A vs Channel B? Hopefully you can help... i have the infinite. Also a TC Spark boost. Also using the Digitech Trio plus. Using all wirh my Boss Katana head. How would i create my signal path where the Digitech does not get affected with the on board fx of the katana and can use the boost and infinite only on the guitar signal?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform 20 днів тому

      Great question! 🤔 There's a few interacting variables in that equation, and I've sold my Katana a couple of years ago and don't quite remember all the options now, but let's give this a shot. Boost: for my style of playing, I'd always place it between the guitar and the amp's input (if you want to use it as a volume boost, you could place it in the Katana's effects loop, but the Katana has other options for that); Infinite: I prefer it after all the gain / drive sections. If I'm relying on amp drive, that means putting it in the effects loop (unless it's a Marshall and I'm running the power amp hard, but I digress). With the Katana, I'd want it in the loop, with a caveat (see below); Trio: definitely in the Katana's effects loop, as the last item in the chain -- but, and this is a big one, the Katana's onboard effects have to be placed before the effects loop (I believe there's an option for that, but you have to confirm), otherwise the Trio's signal will be affected too. So in summary: Guitar > Spark > Katana input > (onboard FX) > Katana FX loop send > Infinite > Trio > Katana FX loop return. The caveat: placing the Infinite in the FX loop, after time based effects, means that the sound you freeze will include all the effects, and might be harder to do without glitches that might be covered up by a reverb. If that's the case, try: a) using a toneprint that has some built-in reverb, or b) if you're playing with a clean tone on the Katana, move the Infinite after the Spark and before the Katana's input. Hope this helps!

      @@PedalPlatform Thank you so much. Sometimes the whole signal chain and FX loop scrambles my brain. This sounds like it will work perfectly. Is full midi out implemented yet? I like to record w midi messages so when I do a retake, I don’t have to worry about using the pedal and just play while midi IN from the daw is controlling the effects. That is the only thing that’s given me. Pause about purchasing that.

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform 20 днів тому

      Unfortunately no, and will never be implemented under this hardware. The Plethoras don't have a MIDI Out port, only In and Thru, and the Thru is hardwired to the In, so... that's nope, sorry. 😕

  • @kruger78
    @kruger78 Місяць тому

    Sir, thank you for a very detailed overview of the pedal, you have done the TC a favour by putting out a video manual, which they didn’t bother to put together. One thing confuses me, in the 4 cable method when you put fx loop (two jacks facing each other) you suggest that the order of pedals goes left to right (ie. Compressor before amp, reverb and delay after). In another video, I saw a guy using the FX loop slot, connecting his overdrive via the pedal effects loop, and this part I do understand how it works, but he suggests that the order is right to left (he moves effect loop slot to the left most place and says “it sits at the end”. This confused the life out of me. Can you help me understand it better?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform Місяць тому

      Not exactly sure if that's the case, but newer versions of the Plethora firmware allow you to reverse the direction of the slots, to simulate discrete pedals in which the signal flows right to left. In this video I'm using one of the initial firmware versions, with signal flowing left to right (still the default, and also my personal preference). That might explain the difference. Thank you for the kind comments! 🙏🏻

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78 Місяць тому

      @@PedalPlatform Thanks, I thought that would be the case. My logic was severely tested. Whilst it makes sense that order of the pedals, from 1 to five suggests the order in the chain, the way cables are plugged in may suggest otherwise. But if they made it possible to flip it around, all the better.

    • @kruger78
      @kruger78 Місяць тому

      @@PedalPlatform I can confirm that I found a video with introduction of 1.3.6 firmware update where signal direction can be changed (The Bearded Guitarist). The more I think about it, right to left makes more sense, the cables follow that logic but also, every pedal I had has had input on the right, output on the left so flowing right to left. I guess it didn’t make sense for them for the numbers to be 5 4 3 2 1 😁

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform Місяць тому

      Yup, dry is either on or off, you can only change the reverb amount from basically off to 0 dB, which should be roughly the equivalent of a 50/50 mix. I guess that was the only way of guaranteeing a full analog dry through without overcomplicating everything.

    Awesome review! Id like to know your opinion...what would you go for if youd go for a van halen type sound? This one or the dark flame?

    Have you tried that eq-boost in front of a driven amp? I consicher buying a X3 but I do need a boost for solos (to cover my bad techniqe😀). Does the Plethora work as a boost here, too? Also: does it produce any kind of (digital) hiss when running on front of a driven amp?

    I didn't realize how good this pedal actually is... 😮

    Hi Philip, I just wanted to drop a message to say how much I appreciate your videos-they have been a tremendous help! I've been using the BandHelper app on my iPad which selects the correct preset of the Plethora (and pedal settings) for each song. It's a great workflow and it really saves my back! ;-) However, I have a quick question: It seems I can't send MIDI commands (like program changes) to the Plethora X3 over its Bluetooth connection. Instead I have to use an external Bluetooth-MIDI dongle. Can you confirm this for me? What a shame if that's the case! Thanks again for all your great work! Best, Mark

      Hi Mark, thank you for the kind comment! 🙏🏻 And yes, I can confirm that the Plethora at this point doesn't do MIDI over Bluetooth. I'm not sure if that's on the roadmap for eventual future updates, but it would be a lovely addition to the feature arsenal :)

    Have the crunch lab/liquifire combo in an Ibanez 7 and I do like it a lot.

    I tried the pedal itself but I didn’t get that nice echo effect Obviously you mixed with other effects

      yeah doesn't really give a fair demo when there's other effects being used

    Only one thing I missed that this pedal had is the ability to automatically sustain the sound to have the possibility of using it as an auto swell volume

    Paired the King of Kings dual overdrive pedal with a vintage seventies tube amp, the Evan Bass 60. Made in Italy, this combo is pure bliss! Check out the video on my channel.

    This could work putting it at the return of a practice amp?
