As much of an underground hip hop head like myself I didn't really get into listening to G-Rap until 96! He doesn't do high numbers commercially because he can't shake or let go of the "hood" mentality that he grew up in! Its in runs through his veins! Its like the narrator said Ghostface, Nas and Big Pun were deeply influenced by K.G.R. The mainstream media will sadly never respect his greatness but the MC'S he influenced does! I sure tf do too!! He's up there in age, but so what? He still got the deadly skills now as he did in his 20's. In this point in time he really deserves his 🌹 s. Him and Dj Polo made an incredible team making deadly music together. Speaking of which Rip DJ Polo🙏!

And I'll also add this: G Rap was able to keep his flow mainstream-relevant up until the early 2000s which boom bap has peaked, and I only say "up until" because mainstream was flushing out that style of rap with much more commercial sound as time went on, and even past that point he was almost signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group. There's only a few MC's from that time who can achieve that longevity. And he still gets busy.

My favorite post Cold Chilling and Juice Crew song of his is Fast Life with Nas, G did his thing but Nas took it on another level and they didnt have to curse minus the ninja part from Nas to make it legendary but underrated which it should have more love.

    A. Compared to other rappers during and after his era, he’s not talked about as much. Yeah they’re talking about him, but not as much as Jay-Z, Nas, Rakim, KRS, Biggie.
    B. His record sales. G Rap is one of the greatest and has 4 CLASSIC ALBUMS….but none of them went GOLD. Unlike Rakim, BDK, KRS-One, LL(well, that’s LL), Slick Rick, etc. That alone is a Stunted Growth itself.

Well....what happened to the hip hop pioneers is people in the corporations like "Mista Bob Dobalina's" found a way to infiltrate our beloved genre by implement over sexuality, promoting heavy drug usage, encouraging violence, promote homosexuality & praising being wack, talentless & even create fake beefs to sell points on a album & eliminating real hip hop talented artist. If you was socially conscious....they really ain't promoting you. Which causes alot us to stay underground or independent. They rather choose "Sexyy Red" over "Roxanne Shante". They rather go for "Drake" over "Rakim". Even the white & Latin rappers aren't safe....They want "Slim Jesus" over "MC Serch"...."Pit Bull" over "Beatnuts". As long "Titty Whitie" hold all the cards.... pioneers & dope independent artist will always get pushed to the side over popular trends,...it shouldn't be that way.

Kool G Rap's Men At Work = Big Daddy Kane's Raw. Kool G Rap was one guy who could see Kane lyrically. And he showed it on The Symphony and Raw Remix.

No stunted growth. Without him, a lot of rap doesn’t sound the way it does in the 90s. He’s the Godfather of Mafioso Rap. He probably fathered your favorite rapper style.

On the run, great train robbery, I'll street blues, Streets of NY, and straight jacket are some of the greatest rap stories ever told. I don't think he gets enough credit for his storytelling. And he absolutely bodied his feature verse on M.O.P. Stick to ya gunz 🔥🔥🔥

2:57 You don’t need skill. Ice Spice is being held from the top Billboard spot because Eminem is still holding on to it. Em as one of the most talented lyricists to ever do it is up against a talentless woman that fans only get excited about when she shows them her backside. Disgusting.

Dont agree with " stunted growth" that man is the father of mafioso rap, and basically every rappers favorite rapper, he has countleas classics under his belt. Maybe didnt sell alot but for those that know G rap is top 5 ever

Poorly put together. He was a gangster rapper before gangster rap was a genre. On top of that he was East coast who were party rhyming, flow centric & conscious sometimes with a bit of grime but not overtly like him. NWA blew up in a relatively barren east coast with Father MC, Hammer & the like who sounded East coast. They introduced G-funk to the world along with charisma and personalities that people were interested in. Nas came along and portrayed street awareness themes but wasn't overly aggressive, was loved by the ladies, was very young and had the lyricism that east coast rap valued above all else. If he had managed to present his art with a gimmick like WuTang he'd have got more industry attention. They just weren't ready and he remained a niche artist with a cult fan base that wasn't what the industry wanted. He looked & sounded too grimy for his time & once the door was kicked open no-one was looking back to him.
