What Stunted JOE BUDDEN'S Growth Musically? Is He In Your Top 10?

- In the early 2000s, Joe Budden was poised to be next up from the east coast. He jumped on the scene with a flow that was unique to the times and a hit song to go along with it in "Pump it up". He then introduced his fans to a more deeper side through his "Mood Musik" series, but none of it resulted in good enough sales at the time for record Label Def Jam to keep him around. He's had beefs with Jay-z, Drake, and a host of others along the way and never shied away from the competition. Many thought it was over at that point for Budden, who then found himself with a breath of fresh air in the group "Slaughterhouse", signed to Eminem. Maybe just Joe's luck, but things didn't workout there either and the group disbanded, leaving Joe with another tough decision. He then retired and began his most successful venture. Podcasting. Self-Sabotage is what stunted his growth.
Cant even count how many bridges he burned

I was looking for this comment
I can't even stunt Joe was a crazy wordsmith
The man has bars for days. No doubt about that
The one thing I've learned from your videos is that talent isn't enough you need discipline and self reflection... Blessings 💯💯
Agreed💯
Definitely 👌🏾💯
Fax 📠 💯
Of course, talent isn't enough. You need the right personality, the right team behind you, a label that will help your career, hits, and not be an azzhole. Budden only had talent.
Budden is his stutned growth! He's arrogant and belives he smarter then the whole room.
He keeps it real so he speaks his mind. I don't dude aggorant at all just a little too real and narcissistic to keep it 💯
When keeping it real goes wrong
10 minutes, calm down, walk with me are CLASSICS on his debut!
Pray for me ,different love ,Angel in my life ,love for you ,more of me ,all of me, all good songs

He's in my personal top 5 but you hit this one on the head. I love you're stuff from basketball to rap. Keep it up fam. 👊🏾
Watching stunted growth music in the mornings is a routine now... 😂🤷🏾♂️
He should of done Mood Music 5. Joe back then was definitely in my top 20.
Easy, blame mid to late 2000s def jam 😂 lot of artists put on the shelf. Didn't help that joe was saying F u to the def jam label heads
Facts
And put it in songs no less
This is an easy one. Joe stunted his own growth. The label does play a part in his mainstream career but everything else is all him
He is always beefin with people.
Joe budden to me is one of the best rappers ever due to his word play and bars.
True, definitely in the top 10,000
Top 100k
@@thekillakid99 ikr mans a legend definitely in the top 100k its just too bad his career earnings and record sales couldnt top 100k
Joe was always dope but he had personal demons that got in his way plus Hov let's not forget lol 😆
Nothing wrong with being asked by your label for hits. Your deep stuff can be catchy and have hooks too.
Omg that Earl sweatshirt Joe Budden thumbnail is EVERYTHING!!!!!!!
The thumbnail nail killing me bro😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
As a fan of his podcast since day 1, paying attention to him since the early Slaughterhouse days... I was on his side always but theres been a pattern that I cannot ignore. Joe is toxic and does not see his wrong doing. If you have fires in every situation you are in you have to look at yourself.
Fam i feel the exact same way, i really rootin for him in this last situation too but seeing how he did his friends was too much, that shit was mad lame
I feel ya, many of us were fooled by Joe the master manipulator
Joe is very entertaining but can’t seem to honor responsibilities.
Lil Flip Stunted growth, plz.
🤞
He got ja ruled' by T.I.....the end
Everyone who says self sabotage really don't understand the music industry or history. Jay z flipped def jam and his second album was shelved, this became the ring tone Era, or young money. This Era killed g unit, method man, almost all of NY. You were either young money or a plant. Then the next transition was to trap. There wasn't another successful lyricist until Kendrick Cole.
True. From like 05' to 09' the music industry was in a period where Soulja Boy and rappers like him were super successful and then the 2010's change everything with upcoming rappers like Nipsey, Meek Mill, Mac Miller etc. I remember being in middle school when that transition happened. Good ol' times.
I think it was drill music then trap
Just bumped into this channel 10 minutes ago. After enjoying this 1st video checked your list. Subbed & Can't wait to go through it.
Do Keith Murray too please. He's a perfect case for the stunted series.
PS get a Twitter account.
The doc that Joe always wanted, you’re doing great work on this channel. You’ve earned a sub
Joe has a terrible ear for beats. He’s good at rapping but that’s it. He couldn’t pick good beats or make a good chorus and that was his main downfall musically
Def fair
What a great channel concept! Just found your videos and I have been binging. You are a good narrator. Joe is talented but I think his ego got in the way of a lot of his success but I also think his career happened exactly as it should have as he is brilliant at podcasting despite the issues JBP is having currently.
Fans being trash and not respecting his genius is what stunted his growth. Tracks like 3 Sides to a Story and Pray For Me are legendary
True. The new mainstream fans who prefer dumbed-down art
Semi true, alot of that shit is joe's fault plus he didnt like doing promo.
Your opening monologue was *chef kisses*
I’ve wanted you do to this episode since you started the channel
Got you.
That Earl Sweatshirt/Joe Budden parody makes me laugh every time 😂😂😂😂
That first freestyle reminds me of Def Jam: Fight for New York!
Yo I like Joe but he can be messy at times I respect him. Yo I like both series musically and sports keep it up. Much love and respect
Wow…that list of albums Def Jam released in 2002 & 2003 took me back! Good times.
As far as structure, this is the best Stunt Growth video. Nice work.
Its amazing that he managed to sandbag his own career. He was talented and even as a pill popper had great work ethic. But in that industry you work ethic wasn't enough back then. You also had to have business etiquette. Someone should have given Joe the 48 Laws of Power and told him to soak the game up.
I loved Joey's mood music series.. and his dj clue desert storm mixtapes with Fab, Stack bundles,Paul Cain and Ransom. I had hoped his stint with slaughterhouse was gonna be legendary.. we got good music but not the commercial success he shouldve had
That was the real slaughterhohse in hindsight.. just playing some old desert storm joints amd if clue had been a better exec that situation could turned out different. Prob stack and chinx would still be here too. But i digress. Joey still nice!
@@NahshonWebb the last joe budden battle I saw was when he was against Hitman holla i think. but joey lost that one. his flex freestyles are the truth tho
@@vaughnalexander32
It was Hollow da Don.
Joe is an exceptional MC. Period. No one nor anything can take that away from him 💯
Before I watch I will say I was a big Joe budden fan since he dropped Pump it up in what seemed like 2003 . I listened to everything, he would rip up beats on some mixtape shit and still had some good songs musically that expressed his emotions. Eventually his character and some incidents seemed to overpower his music and he himself seemed to take more of a "vlog" type of career after. Also his second album "The Growth" never dropping according to plan was kind of hindering but he still dropped mood music tapes and the music was good.
He is a great rapper but he be wyling lol which is an entertainment factor in itself which he was able to capitalize on and keep his name very relevant to this day
Joe was amazing on the radio, he was always a podcaster. One of the best morning show periods on hot 97
nah that thumbnail wild 😭
Joe is in my Top 15. His music got me through a lot of dark days in my teens and I can’t ever short change him for that. When you talk about raw emotion and honesty in rap, his name is up there with the ‘Pac’s, Scarface’s, and even Drake to an extent. Nothing was off limits for Joe, and if you were going through it, it felt incredible to know a rapper with all these baddies around him was actually struggling with the same shit you were.
Been waiting on this!!!!!!
Joe budden Some Love Lost, All Love Lost and Rage & The Machine is some of his best work
Also the mood muizk series 1-4 all classic
Love that outro to rage in the machine
Padded Room and Escape Route is what made me hooked.
That Brady Bunch line was hard
Ironically that 2nd defjam album was gonna be called “the growth”
Fascinating
We got robbed, I waited bout 2 years for the growth
I was a big JB back in the early 2000s when he on the mixtapes with the a-team. After his 1st album, i pretty much tuned him out.
What track are you using as your background music? It's fire🔥
The pump-it up guy🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man Joe had two chances solo and in slaughterhouse and both bridges burned to ashes that sounds like his fault
Damn I didn't even get thru the intro before I commented but yeah
If it still online there was an anonymous forum (2008-2009) which tells the inside story of how Jay-Z kept Joe held back.
Aye bro.. U think paul cain was stunted.. If im not mistaken..he was wit fab and joe b street dreamin...if so ... Could u do a vid on him? Either way great vids on both channels!!!
I don’t think Cain was stunted. He seems to like the “behind the scenes” lifestyle.
I guess you can make a video on Earl Sweatshirt too
The only decent rapper in that group. Earl got stunted by association
Mannnnn Earl Sweatshirt is one of my favorite rappers!!! Tyler The Creator DID NOT lie when he said “he is the secret weapon of Odd Future.” That man’s bars, delivery, and flow is second to none!!!! I truly believe if he didn’t spend that time in that boarding school in Africa when OF was blowing up he would not be where he is now.. I’m predicting that if he does that video, that would undoubtedly be stunt number one!!! Doris is such an amazing album!!!
Still my fav rapper def my top 5 regardless of what the facts show bars def was there
He bagged a lot of Dominican honeys. I would have gotten Santana pregnant too 😭
😂😂🤦🏾♂️ me too my nigga me too
Santana has a lot of problems one of them is communication, which is necessary in a relationship be careful.
@@jasminemonroe5784 lmao I’m a horrible communicator also 🤦🏾♂️ communication is overrated
For a supposed cornball, Joe had no problem getting laid. Tahiri, Gloria Velez, Esther Baxter, etc.
Joe will still body ya favorite rapper with bars....
I loved all his Mood Muzik Mixtapes
He signed to Def Jam at the worst possible time.
Joey is a legend regardless!
The streets stopped messing with Joe when he was getting beat up behind his mouth Raekwon rocked him and had him bleeding apologizing...he got his cousin snuffed by Ransom also behind his mouth both times he came out looking soft his street cred disappeared instantly...
FACTS. This does not get mentioned enough. He’s still running his mouth the same way.
Bro u killed it with the Joe look alike lol😂😂
lol 8:32 Memphis Bleek face in the picture
Mood Music 3 + 4 got me thru some tough times
I'm surprised you didn't mention that random beef with The Game on a mixtape though, the one on the beef series. Shit was weird how it started with them two lol.
Joe in my top #10 all day.. Eminem used those guys except Royce TBH Joe was right but he got classics mood music 2,3,4,4.5 Escape route Halfway House & Rage and the Machine all Classic albums IMO
Where is the Jay Elect video at.
Don't even need to watch the video to know what stunted Joe's growth. Joe has alienated himself from almost everyone he's been in contact with, over the years. Ransom, Wu-Tang, On Top Music, G Unit (Game, mostly), Desert Storm, Slaughterhouse, Eminem, Rory and Mal, his labels, etc. The list goes on and on. He's also had many many romantic relationships too that have ended terribly. This man's mouth constantly gets him in trouble. He's EXTREMELY TALENTED THOUGH, don't get it twisted. His Mood Muzik series is one of my favorites, and he's in my top-something, for sure.
Bruh....ever since Jay-Z became president for Dej Jam....how many rappers career got shelved!? But still Joe should continue pushing his music
he did... y’all just didn’t pay attention to it
Im not jay z fan but what artist did he shelve? Cause rhianna blew up when he became president. Jeezy blew up when he became president. So because Joe couldn’t capitalize off his 1 hit. Thats jay fault?
@@Modeek6 LISTEN....UA-cam IS HERE AND U CAN DO UR RESEARCH
@@jameshamilton5947 i can and once again. You didn’t answer the question which further proves thats just a bullshit excuse for y budden’s music to go the way he wanted it too. Once again. Buddy’s pen game was ridiculous. But hes the reason his career went to shit and he proves it by being a hater and bitter.
Jay z ruined rap
Listen To "Whatever It Takes" By Joe one of many great / Classic Tracks he made
After that, listen to all of me and more of me
Stack bundles we need that for the culture
Cliff G Jim Jones taking Stacks & Max swag and Stacks🕊 getting took from us stunted him 💪🏽
Stunt #1: Got shot *end of video*
Now he the one hip hop podcast wow 🗣️🗣️
Mannn, I can’t tell you how hyped I was back in 2002 after hearing his mixtapes for this dude to blow up! I Always wondered what went wrong, thanks for this one bro👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Budden is 1 of my fave rappers
That verse of REMEMBER THE TITANS though!
Waited for those one n it was one of the best yet🤞
What instrumental is the background music ?
But Jày said he "he wasn't talking to nobody in particular" sooo..🤷🏿♂️
Can you do DJ Unk, Cali Swag District and Doughboy Cash out?
Everyone in cali swag district died except 1
I told JC to think about CSD!
@@Modeek6
Except 2. M-Bone (shot) and JayAre (health complications) died.
Great analogy 2:20 about Joe!
Joe got bars you can't deny that
The success of his podcast, I feel, is more attributed to his early presence on social media.
Whether Joe saw the vision of what it would become or just narcissistic, Joe had a huge following online from him and Tahiry putting out content. That’s a big part of what kept Joe relevant. Most people didn’t even know he rapped which is insane, but true.
It’s also crazy that they released his debut album a week after Fast & Furious soundtrack that also held his hit single.
thanks for making this video ... buddens top 5
My Favorite Rapper ever.
Definitely need a Crooked-i and Joel Ortiz stunted growth
a full year later and im still laughing at that thumbnail.
There was a point where Joe Budden was my favorite rapper. I would argue with anyone that in his prime, no one was rapping better than him.
Damnn Joe Budden one of the greatest lyricists.
Video is well done
K Koke (UK rapper previously got signed to Jay Z) or Canibus next please.. TIA!
Yes, a day 1 JB rap fan. I missed his music at first, but have since moved on
A very young Mal @ 10:40
“Who got that money 💰 ?“ lol 😆
Him being bitter over his career is what stunted his growth.if 2 hip hop heavyweights such as jay an em didn’t want to deal with him. Its him. Buddy is Great Mc. His pen game is nasty. But hes the reason his career was the way it way based of these standards.
Facts
I never liked him as a person (not that I know him or anything) but when it came to rappers using big ass intricate words to sound hard, his made the most sense to me,
Like I like Royce the 5’9 but sometimes that fool just say shit because it rhymed..like in “loud noises” wtf is royces verse
