While Gary Moore was always well-respected among his peers, he never got the attention or recognition he deserved. He's a Top 5 - maybe Top 3 - all-time guitar hero in my book.
I think Downey is a more technical than most guys kind of drummer, but not too technical that it gets in the way. One of my favourites too. His drum solo in bad reputation is probably my favourite of all time. Not over top, just right.
Ianthebassist yes, "Bad Reputation" has got awesome drum works on it, the Brian "Razz-Ma-Tazz" Downey sound, reminds me here of Mitch Mitchell, so I call Brian "the Irish Mitch Mitchell"

Man oh man, what a performance of a great, and I mean GREAT song. Chills at how good it is. What a pleasure to see Gary invite Robbo and Scott and Bryan, together, blasting out with such talent and precision. I miss Gary to no end...
Can we just talk about how incredibly well mixed this is for a live recording for a second? They even went so far as to iso Gary in the left ear and Robo is in right.
@tomhipchen9507 Great call man. I must be a left eared person; cause Gary sounds a little better than Robo. Both are great but Gary's in my top 3 all-time.
Robbo and Gary on the same stage at the same time, the 2 best guitarists in Thin Lizzy (sorry Scott & Eric, but its true) - THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
No need to say sorry because you are wrong. I like Robbo but I would take Scott over him as he has played tasty leads and is more fluid and creamy in his solo work. He is also a team player. His solo in Still in love with you Live in Sydney was pretty damn good. Gary was the best and you could see Scott loving his time on stage with him.
Noyce has about the hardest job there - piss-easy bassline, without any of the vocal Phil had, watching three ex-members of Phil's band. He's totally top class!
Always loved this song. Love the whole Jailbreak LP. I'll never understand why the industry forces music into these narrow boxes. Hard rock. Metal. Punk. Death. Doom. Thrash. Alternative. Indie, etc. Then the younger musicians follow suit to the categories. Then their fans. Then the venues. Before you know it, guys are more worried about which Hot Topic patch of ripped T-shirt swatch they are going to pin to their denim jacket, than they are enjoying and honoring great undefined music like this. Montrose, Moore, Fripp, Beck, B. Campbell. Fuck now time is starting to take these guys from us. They can never be replaced.
+SouthOCmixdown Always chuckled at the intro to this on the live album... 'Are there any girls here with any Irish in them? Are there any girls who'd like a little more Irish in them?...... Emerald'
That lick GM ripped from 3:23 - 3:26......3 seconds of proof the man was not of this Earth. Robbo's licks towards the end sound a lot like his playing on the Live and Dangerous recording of this song, it was really great to hear. These two are my kind of legends.
Gary was an absolute BEAST! Rest well my Friend. And what can you say about the legacy of Thin Lizzy? What a Band! One of the all-time great hard-rock bands, IMHO. Love the songs!
I feel truly blessed to have seen Gary twice and Thin Lizzy twice here in the United States. Gary never made it real big here for some reason, so seeing him twice {Victims of the future and Wild frontier tours} makes it even more special! Best hard rock guitarist ever.

I'm 57 and lived and loved decades of rock music and there are many a good band out there today but when you look back at artists as tight and professional as these I consider myself lucky to have seen the best .
Watch/Listen to Robbo on 1:47 to 1:48 . That's why Thin Lizzy is so great for me. I can recognize Robbo's sound anytime.. Of course because of Phil and all the other members. Listen to Wildhorses ( Jimmy Bain and Robbo ) . It's the closest you can have to a Lizzy Album. His tone for me is the best in the world of rock n roll.
Phil Lynott's bass playing added an extra to this piece that is just missing in this version, as enjoyable as it is. RIP Mr Moore, you were very underrated.
Robo Rocking the '73 deluxe here and actually "Staring down his Mate" Gary, I love this interaction.... Totally Thin Lizzy, take no prisoners vibe.... Gary has some fast runs ... but come on, Robo delivers true Blues rock vibes on his end solo riffs... Thanks so much for uploading this Gem of a live performance. In Thin Lizzy, when Robbo and Scott were in the band they didn't cross swords and "duel" It was a musical partnership, a partnership that worked brilliantly as there were no ego's, no competition to flood the solo spot out with more notes than the other guy. why was Gary buried there when he's from Belfast
Most of his family now live in Brighton, they probably wanted him near them. He was only 16 leaving Belfast.
