I have played guitar since i was 15 years old (about 45 years ) and i am yet to see a guitarist to match Gary Moore he has been my hero for years simply because he makes it look so easy, i was gutted when he died because i had no one to show me guitar playing at its best any more, Gary was the master of getting the best sound from marshall amps and wow did he put them amps through their paces, thats probably why Jim marshall invited him to their factory in Milton Keynes so often. Both Jim Marshall and Gary Moore was great guys and great ambassadors to the world of music, I have a feeling they wont be resting in peace as everyone expects they will be rocking in heaven better than anyone. Keep rocking Gary and Jim wherever you are you are definately missed on this planet.
I remember learning this song by playing along to my dad's vinyl and thinking 'hey this ain't so bad'. Then I got to the very Celtic D chord riff near the end and thinking bloody hell this is tricky. Then looking at the liner notes and realising: 'bloody Gary Moore!'. As you say, he made it all look so easy.
The other problem is that they all keep leaving us and there isn't anyone around to replace the void and I'm afraid that the time isn't far when they will all just be memories via our speakers and television screens. Very sad.
In many ways moore is an unbeatable player, but he isn't my favourite. I have heard anyone cover this apart from later thin Lizzy and they don't even attempt to do the final lead parts. It is very Celtic based mixed with a bit of blues. Who else can get near to it? He is extremely fast without any tricks whereas EVH and the likes of satriani use a lot of tricks. Clapton and Hendrix never played as fast as that, although Hendrix is more flamboyant and Clapton concentrates on the emotion of each note more. Moore is link the link between the two camps.
Gary Moore is the best guitarist that ever lived and Thin Lizzy one of the greatest rock bands ever! Rolling Stone and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame don't know shit!
The only thing that might match this, but in another way, Is Eagle's performance of Hotel California. But only with Joe Walsh. Otherwise, no one matches Thin Lizzy. Never. Not even then.
Truly the greatest rockband ever... Impossible to believe they didn't have the recognition they deserved. I would like to see the present-day prancing, preening mediocrities with their 3 chords and crap guitar solos follow something as giant as this. Lizzy were everything a band should be and we will probably never see their like again. All I can say is that I am so happy I was born long enough ago to see them at Hammersmith with Philo doing this song. The ultimate...
† February 06 2012 † Exactly one year ago we were losing Gary sir here, one of the greatests. Let's mark this day with a big load of thumbs up for Gary and Thin Lizzy, people!
Gotta say I never realised how much Lizzy were loved in Ireland until I went to Dublin last year what an amazing experience. Everywhere we went there were pictures and photos of Phil and Rory Gallager the pubs even had a whiskey named Thin Lizzy in the one bar I've loved Lizzy since I was 15 and this visit will remain with me forever. I was lucky enough to see Gary twice once in Donington MOR 84 and the next in Cardiff in 87 on the Run for Cover tour amazing. This song is my absolute fave of Lizzy and they did it justice R.I.P Phil and Gary.
Not often you come across perfection but this is it! Gary's playing at 4:46 is just mind blowing he was my favourite guitarist of all time , this is twin lead feast time!!
people can say what they like about Garry Moore excuse my language but he was a fucking genius they ether are jealous or don't don't know a agenius which he was and a nice bloke at times you think he was playing a violin he was that quick so no matter what you say to think what he still would of produce if alive what a talent what a bloody loss we can still enjoy is music so very y sad still miss him to this day rest in peace great one Robert Garry William Moore weve still got the blues for you God bless Garry
The Hammersmith one with Phil in is mint mate. Not a fan of Gary's vox but the music is fucking amazing heater, really punchy. P.A guy/women got it right for this show x
i had the very great pleasure of meeting and hangin a bit with Scott after a gig a few years back...just hangin out and shooting the breeze a bit backstage and i consider it one of the greatest little bits of my life he was such a guy...someone you would meet in a bar and buy a few beers for just 'cuz you wanted to keep him telling stories a true gentleman and...well a guy, considering the legend he is and all
sad gary moores gone aswell. black rose is one of my fave albums. phil lynott was well clued up on irish history and in days without the availability of the internet. rip both, the dalgais
Thin Lizzy’s twin guitars were almost unparalleled in most of rock ‘n roll, especially with all the lineup changes. They pulled it off and sounded great through the years, through all the different guitar players and albums.
12groney scott has back problems, that’s why he switched to strats for a while. He now used chambered (weight relief) les pauls. Btw really nice guy. I saw thin lizzy with gorham downey wharton campbell mendoza and warwick in milano (italy) some years ago in the front row, at the end of the concert scott came down to give me his pick. Great moment for a humble guitarist an huge Lizzy fan like me
@TheLuthien83 People like me, I'm a 24 year guitarist, as long as the torch continues to be passed, then the music will live. Now, whether or not this music will remain in popularity is irrelevant. In fact I prefer the cult status that Lizzy and all the other rock greats of '70s hold...Don't be scared.
Great performance. Thin Lizzy and their contemporaries were musicians who mastered their craft. I'm of the age group that had the privilege of growing up with this music.
For me Scott will and Always will be my Hero.. Together with Robbo they Where the best twin players ❤️❤️ Phil, Scott, Robbo, Brain they where amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Respect to Gary as well of course!!
Somehow Gary entered into my life and through him i got to know to Thin Lizzy, I'm not even irish or something, but this song gives me goosebumps to this day... RIP LEGEND
I'm a 22 year old left handed Guitarist from The south Wales valleys and I love Thin Lizzy and Gary Moore .Thin Lizzy were a Awesome band much better than U2 in my opinion I don't give me Wrong I like U2 as well.
I first saw Thin Lizzy as the warm up band to Bachman Turner Overdrive but after Eric Bell had left. But then Eric Bell joined them on stage as he happened to be playing at a night Club that night in Bristol. So Eric’s playing the final number - the Rocker - and then goes off to start his set elsewhere.
My G. O. D OUR FATHER JESUS AND THE BLACK ROSE ...THE LAST TO FALL TO THE QUEEN OF THAT LAND .... BUT I know that you and Roberto will both smile when I say is it too late to apologize. ????
The ultimate rock song, this should be Ireland's national anthem. Gary Moore will remain at the top of the tree for eternity
He was English, mo ghile mear. Slante.

So true pal
This is singularly one of the greatest twin guitar performances I've ever heard. Also, shout out to Brian Downey. Great drum part.
In deed! But someone should have taken the whammy bar from Scott's guitar!
The only thing that might match this, but in another way, Is Eagle's performance of Hotel California. But only with Joe Walsh. Otherwise, no one matches Thin Lizzy. Never. Not even then.
Brian Downey is such a dynamic drummer, super flow👍
To have the dexterity and flow for so many years is beyond compare. Brian Downey is a super hero for real. He just goes on!
@@stevecarey3124 My favourite rock drummer
..just has the x factor.
The one and only Brian Downey:)
He's the most underrated drummer as far as I'm concerned.
Great drummer,master of the hihatt.

For the love of God... how does Cardi B have a fucking grammy? Notorious BIG is in the RRHF before Lizzy? It a world gone wild.

The finest guitar duo ever......Scott and Gary.... XXX

❤..Eagles..D.Felder and mr.Walsh
@@terjebergstrom6038 Good, but not close enough to Gary Moore
Gary did a great job singing all the old songs.
Crazy how close his voice is to Phil’s...yet still identifiably his. NOONE could have anywhere near close enough to pulling this off.
John Norum and John Sykes could have done it
Gotta say I never realised how much Lizzy were loved in Ireland until I went to Dublin last year what an amazing experience. Superb live performance
First saw Gary with Lizzy on the Black Rose tour in '79, stunning. Always loved the Colloseum II stuff, some of his best ever work imho.
Thin Lizzy’s twin guitars were almost unparalleled in most of rock ‘n roll, especially with all the lineup changes. They pulled it off and sounded great through the years, through all the different guitar players and albums.
Fucking Awesome! Mr Moore and Mr Gorham work so well together.
There are really no words.......pure class!
Saw these guys so many times super duper live band.
The only band in the world that can play this right! Glad Gorham plays a Les Paul now, that strat couldn't hold up to the task.

That's kinda like discussing if Mozart or Beethoven is best..
Some artists are so good it makes no sense discussing who's "best", they all are!
Just amazing, legends, no one came near to Lizzy, Rock Guitar at its very best
