I had a look at iobroker, and saw there is only minor support for Switchbot. What I wonder, if I have the hub, will the Switchbot devices be available as controllable devices in Alexa if you bind them via the skill? Because, I would guess, this way I could control all Switchhub devices via iobroker, as you can in general access Smart Home devices which are available in Alexa. Any thoughts on that?
all of the "smart things" in my house are on routines. i only use voice when i need something done outside of those routines. which is rare. so I assume , you need the hub for voice or for automated timed events as well, correct?
I have a question, If you dont buy a hub can you use the app to turn on your switchbot from a different house? Say i had a computer at one house but i was at a friends or something and i for whatever reason wanted to turn on my computer at home, would the app still work while im at a different house, if not will the voice control work say with the alexa app, or would that not work either? Cheers
I got a challenge for you! I like many other people, I have the washer and dryer in the basement. These idiot designers started putting ringtones in them and no loud volume buzzer. We can not hear this upstairs. The best I could come up with, is putting a echo show 3 down stairs and and wife can just do a drop in to listen on whats going on. Timers don't work, these things can run from 45 mins to 3 hours if it decides too. Can you improve on this? I would imagine this being a huge problem for a lot of people.
Jim, you are so right, hit it right on the head of the nail with one strike. I do have the same situation with the new machines having ringtones instead of the old school buzzer. My dryer runs base on moister so it could run for 10 minutes or an hour. I've been doing some research on how to get alerts & possibly make Alexa make an announcement. So I am accepting the challenge & keep you posted.
My Alexa won’t find the hub when I search for devices?? On the app it shows online the hub , but Alexa won’t find the hub as a device and yes I have the skill and it’s enabled 😔
Probably the most straight forward way to turn on your computer from outside of your network.
Thank you very much for the feedback.

I'm not familiar with iobroker, so I'm not sure if the Switchhub will work with it. Wish I could help
What other ways are there apart from from voice control?
You can also use the app

That's a great idea! The hub is needed to make it possible to control it through Alexa. If not you can control the switch with the app

do i NEED the hub or can i just use siri aka homepod
You will need the hub if you want to control it with your voice assistant, if not you can only control it with the app.
@@ChardTheTechGuy ok thanks but why would anyone buy the hub plus if the mini is cheaper?
That's so cool!
Thank you Jim.

Got it! Had to turn on cloud services 🙄. Thanks! 😌
@@africasking9793 Hey I'm glad to hear you figure it out, I was going to ask you about that or suggest removing everything and start over. Good Job!
Interesting 🧐.

Cool 😎 cool 😎
Did you see my reply to the smartwatch video?
Chard The Tech Guy hi m8 no sorry I did not
When you claim to be a tech guy, but haven’t heard of WOL
WOL = Wake On Lan, not many people know about this. I'm glad I know this.
WoWLAN sadly isn't as straightforward and this looks like a far simpler solution. Feel free to correct me if there is another solution.
@@yeeaahhzz there’s literally an Alexa skill for Wake on LAN
@@andykap911 But that's only if the device is on standby. What about systems that are powered off on wifi?
WOL doesn't work on google mesh. What would you propose?
