- I'm really lazy and I like being able to automate everything. Using a simple skill called WOL skill, I can use the built in 'wake on lan' function on my PC to let Alexa control turing on and off. This also works with routines.
* Go to the My Computer Icon, right click and go to properties.
* On the left click on Device Manager
* Find your physical network card under 'Network Interfaces'
* Right click and get the properties
* Under power management make sure all the options are ticked
* Under advanced, make sure wake on lan and magic packet are enabled.
* Next go to your network and internet settings and look for the 16 digit MAC address, this is the physical address of the card.
* Sign into www.wolskill.com with your Amazon details and add this MAC address giving the computer a name.
* Now you can add the WOL skill on the Alexa app, sign in with the same details and it will detect this PC as a smart device that Alexa can now control.
* Note: you may have to change BIOS settings on your PC to allow the network card to control powering on, if you're not sure about BIOS check with a PC expert.
** Use these instructions carefully as I accept no responsibility for changes or damages to your devices - Thanks **

Literally just done this and while the tutorial is kinda old now it works great! one step closer to making my room voice enabled!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I could not figure it out - and then I found your tutorial. Straightforward, clear and easy to follow. I now have my computer all hooked up to Alexa. Thank you again!
Thanks for this!!! Got it going and started in under 20 minutes!! Stumbled on this channel in a search and don't regret it!
Glad to have helped out!
Usually, i don't like long videos, but this one i like because i know what I'm doing and what is going on. Thank you so much
Well done. I managed to set mine up to start via Alexa thanks to your instructions. Cheers mate.
Awesome! I tried following along with another video about a year ago, could never end up getting it working… finally got it setup properly with your video, thanks!
Great to hear!
This is great. Finally got the wake on Lan skill to work. Now I can be out and about and if work needs me to send something from my pc and it's off I can turn it on and control it remotely! 😁
This is under rated, dude THANK YOU
Thanks for the feedback :)
Works like a charm Andy!! Thank you so much for this very helpful video.
Andy, thank you for this information. I just realized that I could turn my PC on remotely. Found your video and it worked perfectly. I appreciate your posting :-)
Glad it helped
I tried searching for a tutorial in my native language which is spanish and i could only find a tutorial that was 30 minutes long and it dragged out so long as well as it added a ton of unnecessary apps..
Thankfully i found this video earlier today and the setup couldn't be easier, kudos to you because it was extremely simple and easy to do and it was nice knowing how the feature worked.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Thank you so much, it worked better than with ifttt! You rock!
Worked Perfectly. Thank you for the video. I have put my laptop in the "Gaming group" in the Alexa Group so everything power's up all at the same time! Nice ! :)
Nice!
Straight to the point, very useful and works perfectly. Good stuff 👍
I try hitting the Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller Properties you've mentioned at around 3:19, but it only shows me 6 little tabs. General, Advanced, Driver, Details, Events, and Resources. Does this mean my computer is not capable of running it?
I didn't have the power management option until I did a driver update and a windows update. give that a go and see if it changes anything.
Great video man. Thanks. Gonna try this when my 3rd gen Echo arrives tomorrow. Can't wake.
Also, subbed.
Thanks 😊
Hello, I can't find the "WOL & shutdown Link Speed" on my ethernet connection connected to my motherboard, but I do have the "Wake on Magic Packet" "Wake on Pattern Match" and "Wake on Link Settings". Does it have to be connected to a PCIe Network Card for it to work? Thanks in advance.
It should still work with the ethernet built into the motherboard. This is the setup I have, but I still had to update the drivers for the ethernet before I could see all the options. If this doesn't work you might need to check your bios settings for it. It varies slightly from board to board.
works great (october 2020)
@Santino Finley I’m pretty sure this is a bot saying I have seen people say the same exact message
Is it life time free? Just wanna confirm
So confused on how I’m supposed to get to bio settings especially since I use a 60% keyboard, I’ve tried FN and backspace as well as FN then F2, nothing shows up, plus if I do manage to get there, where do I look to make sure it’s enabled
Best thing is to Google your own PC as different bios and chipsets will have different settings and ways to get in. If your BIOS is UEFI you might be able to boot into it from Windows. In settings go to update & security then recovery and what you want to do is restart now under advanced start up. This should give you a menu which will bring you into UEFI (bios for some devices).
As I said though there's no one route I can give for every PC as each motherboard and chipset is slightly different so best to Google how to for your own PC.
Very good explanation of everything. Worked great.
Thank you :), works brilliantly
Absolute legend man, cheers!
Under advanced I don't see Wake on Lan or Magic Packet, though I did have the correct settings available in the power management section. Any idea what I need to do?
It might show up as something slightly different on some cards. Bare in mind this is lan cards only. One thing to try is updating the drivers for the lan card and if that doesn't work only advice is to Google you're specific network card to see if the option is available.
Andy: Considering this process.......However in just perusing the early steps I noticed one of the steps when checking access was
"ONLY allow wake up with a magic packet" ??????? If I check this box; will I still be able to turn the PC on manually???
Yes the magic packet is only for the wake on lan method, its just a specific packet of information that it waits for, but everything manual will remain unaffected.
Thanks for the vid! I was able to get it to turn on and off my computer. but how do you control your monitor to turn on also? right now, I have dual monitors plugged into a smart plug, Alexa routine to turn them both on and off, but when turning on with the routine my screens stay black until I move my mouse. any ideas to fix that?
This might rely on the monitor settings tbh. Some monitors which support CEC have settings that will automatically turn on when they receive a HDMI signal so you might see if your monitor supports that.
Can I make the turn off PC command to put the PC to sleep mode instead if I customize the PC's power button to (sleep) from the "Choose what the power buttons do" in the Control Panel?
So in the Windows companion app for WOL Skill there is an option to change from shutdown to sleep, but to be honest it never seems to work for me but you might have more luck
:(
hey, great tutorial by the way, one quick question, i have this setup for my windows 10 pc with a realtek pci lan card, but it will only work if the pc is in standby ? doesn't work from full shutdown .. any suggestions ? thanks in advance
Seem like other people are having the same issue. I'd try updating the driver and seeing if you can get it to work with a free wake on lan app from the phone, but I have seen people say some cards just won't work. Check out some of the other comments as I think this is bring discussed I them.
Whenever I go to Games and Skills (thats what I see) It just shows a list of skills. Doesnt bring me to the search bar to search. Any way to fix this?
There should be a search icon, like a magnifying glass on the top right in the discover tab. If not I'd suggest uodatjng the app, and if needs be reaching out to Amazon support.
Have only started using Alexa but only on Fire TV Sticks. I'm guessing that this applies to if you have an actual Amazon Echo so that is the device that sends the magic packets.... also, does this work across wifi or do I have to have the PC plugged into the router so that the LAN NIC can pickup the magic packets?
Hey there, this only works over LAN connections bot WiFi, main reason for this is that most WiFi cards disconnect from the network when the PC is switched off while LAN cards can remain active. You're right though this doesn't seem to work via the FireStick, but interestingly some people have reported it working from the mobile app.
I did all the steps, got as far as testing wake on lan from a web page, however wolskill still not working. I only have Alexa as an app on my iPhone but I tell it to turn on the computer and it says ok.
Not sure what else. Only thing I can think of is for the webpage that worked i can choose the port i have forwarded on my router (port 9 udp) but i am unable to find what port wolskill uses.
Any help would be appreciated.
Interestingly it also doesn't work when i use my phone, but works when i ask any of my echo devices. Perhaps the phone app interacts differently or isn't sending the wake from lan packet
Does this work if my PC is not connected to a physical ethernet? I have onboard wifi on my motherboard and that is how I connect my PC to the internet so wondering if this will actually work for tht?
No unfortunately not as the WiFi doesn't stay connected to the network once powered off whereas the ethernet does. So the WiFi won't listen for the wake command. :(
Does this work if you’re using and Ethernet cable? My pc has bluetooth but no wireless Wi-Fi
Hey there, this only works with ethernet as WiFi switches off and disconnects from the network when powered off so can't listen for the wake command.
I have this working now, both on and off, but was wondering if it was possible to turn off the computer when it's at it's lock screen. Is there a way to get wolskill running during that instance?
Strange. This works for me when the PC is locked as long as I'm logged in and the WOLskill app is running. So I wonder if there's something in the settings that stops the app running when locked or maybe prevents network incoming requests when locked. Should work though so don't give up. Hope you get it sorted.
Why would I NOT have that power mgmt tab on the adapter properties?
Might be the driver or if its not an integrated card it may not support power control. Best to Google your particular lan card.
Hello, I want to buy the full skill so I can switch my pc off, but I don't know if it closes the apps before switching off or if it just forces my pc to switch off
It does a windows shutdown, do assuming the apps running shut down correctly with a windows shutdown it should be fine. It doesn't close them individually though, its the same as doing start-> shutdown my pc
Just before I do this, can someone please respond to me if I can complete the wake up on LAN step and still ber able to turn on my computer using the built in power button? Or will I only be able to control power with Alexa
Power options will still work as normal assuming there's no weird settings in your BIOS that disable the physical button. But I've never seen that before myself.
so, how do you turn off the pc if this only turns it on? I cannot open it using this if I manually shut down my pc.
For turning off you need to install the windows app and setup a licence etc.
If your PC is not coming back on after a manual shutdown you'll need to check that your bios is still waiting for a wake on lan request if shut down and not just if it goes to sleep.
The exact setup varies from PC to PC so best to google your own machine/ bios, but a good way to test is with a free wake on lan app on your phone.
hiya mate, class video thanks very much, however i have an issue being that under my network adapters i dont have a realtek pcie gbe family controller, only the WAN miniports, any suggestions on what to do? thanks.
So this will only work with wired Lan cards so if you can figure out the lan adaptor you have the setup should be very similar. Best to Google your own PC as you might find what to look for.
Hello,
I saw your video about WoL with Alexa.
Unfortunately this doesn't work properly for me. I can turn off the computer with Alexa but I can't turn it on. Turning it on from another computer on the network using a different tool works. Just not through Alexa. Do you have any ideas what could be causing this?
Warm greetings
Tom
So the first thing to check is that you have a physical Amazon Alexa device on the same network, i.e connected to the same router. It's a weird one, but it seems like the physical devices are the ones that actually send the WOL command since they're local. So if you're just using the app or something else, it won't work. Worth checking if your router is blocking anything or putting the Alexa devices on a different subnet. Other thing to check is that in the Alexa app you see your PC as a 'switch' under the list of smart devices, if not you may need to search using the WOLskill skill again in the Alexa app. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the video!! I can only get it to work when my PC is sleeping, not shut down (which is better than I had it before) which is a little frustrating... any thoughts?
Sounds like there's a setting that is telling the network card to fully switch off when you power the PC off. You might check power settings and see if there's an option to allow or prevent the PC from turning off the network card. Check out some of the other comments here too as there are a few things to try depending on your particular setup.
Is there a US version of the app? I'd like to buy the license but its only in euros and not USD. Did anyone find a solution to this?
The skill should work anywhere as it's available globally. Try installing the skill in Alexa app first and if this works you should be able to buy the licence. Its called Wake On Lan by Oscar Penelo. Its charged in Euro but your credit card should convert this to dollars when you pay. The currency doesn't matter.
@6:40 what apps did you download??and you downloaded it on your PC or cellphone??thanks
So at this point in the video I'm not downloading a new app, I'm going into the Alexa app on the mobile phone and adding the Wake On Lan skill. There's no additional apps needed on your phone, but you do need to add the skill to Alexa for it to work. So all of this is done on the Alexa app. Later on, if you want to turn off the PC you'll need to install the PC app on the PC itself from www.wolskill.com/ and add the license key etc.
1. should i logout from wolskill website after setting up the info ?
2.In your video wolskill is showing Amazon id and a License no but for me it is only Amazon ID...why?
3. " Now you can add the WOL skill on the Alexa app, sign in with the same details and it will detect this PC as a smart device that Alexa can now control." .......... this Alexa app is installed where in my pc or in my phone?
It doesn't matter if you logout from the website when you're done adding PCs, however if you watch fully, you need to sign up for a licence and WOLskill ID to use the windows app. Wake on lan you can do without a licence, but to use the PC app which performs the shutdown you need a licence. It's once off and unlimited.
Having trouble Linking accounts. I have tried on 2 different devices. "We are experiencing a problem connecting with the skill to link your acccount." "you can try linking your account again by visiting the Wake on Lan (WoL) skill page." Any ideas? thanks!
I've heard a couple of people have similar issues. Best option is through the Alexa app, disconnect and remove the skill, then start on the WolSkill website and only add the skill on the app when you've setup everything on the website. One the website theres an option to enable the skill directly. Hope this helps.
So I have fixed the previous issue and ran into another. The turn on command only works, but I have to send it like five times in a row, any idea why is that happening?
That's a really strange one. Does the same happen if you use a WOL app on your phone or other device? If not its definitely an issue with WOLskill so I'd reach out to the creator. If it does happen using some other wake on lan tool there might be something on your network causing a conflict.
Any idea what 'Wake on Link' option is for? Should it remain as disabled or forced?
I've come across this a few times on integrated network cards such as Intel NIC network cards. As far as I remember this is to wake the PC from standby if a device on the network tries to connect to it. Similar to wake on lan, but specifically for standby mode as opposed to PC being off. Depending on the setup of your PC you can probably leave this off, but worth trying forded if WOL doesn't work.
Just came across this tutorial, doesn't seem to be working for me. Does this require an Ethernet connection?
Yes only works on ethernet as WiFi doesn't remain connected when powered off.
Hey Andy... when asking Alexa to "turn off" the PC, is it going to simply turn off the power, or can she be programmed to run the shutdown command?
Thanks
So the way it works is there's a small windows app that's installed 'listening' for the turn off command, so when you trigger a turn off with the WOL skill this app receives this and does a full shutdown. It doesn't simply turn off the PC power, as its running in Windows, it can do a correct shutdown.
Hi . I have done exactly as described in the video but it doesn't work . Alexa says okay when I tell her to turn on but nothing happens . Checked the bios and device manager as well . The device is showing on my Alexa app . Can you suggest what to do next .
Best thing is to use a free wake on lan app from your phone to check its setup correctly. Each PC has slightly different BIOS and lan card settings so best to Google your own setup as there's no way to troubleshoot each specific configuration.
Remember this doesn't work with WiFi cards, only wired lan, and not all motherboards will support so best to Google your card and board to see if there's specific settings for your hardware.
Most common issues are:
* firewall blocking
* wrong mac address on website
* lan card needs updating
I do not have a Realtek PCIe under the Network adapters pleasssse help!!!
Best thing is to Google your own PC as different bios and chipsets will have different settings and ways to get in. Your Network card could be called something else depending on the hardware and boards in the device. Bare in mind, this will only work for wired LAN cards, not Wifi, so you have to find your own particular network card and follow the rest of the steps. There's no one route I can give for every PC as each motherboard and chipset is slightly different so best to Google how to for your own PC.
Nice tutorial , easy to follow step by step ❤️
Glad you liked it
There seems to be a lot of issues with this turning off AND on.
I've been using this for over a year to turn my PC on without any problems whatsoever.
So today I bought the premium to turn my PC off also.
So, "turn off' works perfectly straight out the box as soon as I'd paid for it, but now "turn on" wont work.
I've not changed any settings.. so has this program install changed something to make it not turn on now?
Just check if you had a recent Windows update. Its happened to me a couple of times where Windows updates reset some of my network card settings. Hope you get it resolved.
Bit of further progress should anyone else be seeing the same issue.
If I ask Alexa to turn off computer she will but then she will not turn it back on.
If I manually shut down the computer, she will turn it back on upon request.
Weird situation, and iirc a similar thing happened with Google assistant also...
Points to a Windows issue if it happens with both assistants I think.... We'll see...
This video was incredibly helpful. Found after going through several wolskill videos but couldn't get turning on to work. Your vid was so thorough now it works like a charm
Great Video! Will this still work if the (amazon echo) is far way from from the computer? For example if the amazon echo is in another room or if i use the app remotely will it power it on?
Doesn't matter as long as they're on the same network. The Echo sends the wake ping over the network so they can be anywhere in the house.
what do i have to enter into "License" in the small desktop app? ty
So when you sign up on the Wolskill website, you need a licence from the developer for the off functionality. It's a once off fee and covers as many pcs as you need, but the windows app won't work without it.
You probably won't see this but if possible can you help me? I tried doing this on Windows 11 and my network adapter doesn't seem to see the auto wake feature
Best thing is to Google your own PC and the make and model of the network adapter as different bios and chipsets will have different settings and ways to setup wake on lan. Remember that this will only work on wired (LAN) network adapters and you will probably need to check settings in your bios and update the drivers for the network card before this will work.
I need help, iv gone threw the tutorial twice, but still can find the problem. iv gotten the program to work when my pc is just asleep, however it just doesn't work from asomething
So after a bit of research and seeing other comments it seems like this is dependant on the network card and motherboard on the PC, seems like some only work from sleep. Best to Google your network card and motherboard to see if there's an additional setting you need or if they fully support WOL from switched off. Hope this helps
I'm not directly WIRED to LAN, Does this work on wifi network setup?
Haven't got it to work via wifi myself but in theory if your wifi card is still connected to your network when the PC is off it should
I have a problem, I have the option of wake on lan on my bios on. But when i give the command to alexa didn't work. Only works when the pc is suspected
The only things I can think if here is that the Bios may have a setting for sleep instead of switch off. Or the lan card could be turned off by windows when the PC powers off. Best to Google your own bios and lan card to see if there's a specific setting. Just FYI there are some cards and bios that just don't seem to support. :( hope you get it sorted.
OMG THIS IT THE BEST THING EVER I LOVE IT I JUST HAD TO DO SOME BIOS CHANGES BUT ITS SUPER
Happy to help :)
What if I don't have an Ethernet connection? Will it still work because I noticed that each time somebody selected the Mac address, they used the one under the Ethernet thing.
No, afraid not, this won't work with WiFi cards as when the pc turns off WiFi cards stop connecting to the network so aren't listening for the wake on lan command. Only works with Lan I'm afraid.
(June 2022) I can only turn off my Acer Predator by saying: "Alexa, turn off the computer" and when I said "Alexa, turn on my computer" it won't turn my computer on. I tried to follow your instructions to the letter, but the software in the Alexa App is different and my computer wont' let me access its BOIS.
Update: I had to take out the hardware I installed on my laptop and use the laptop alone to access its BOIS Settings. I enabled "Wake on LAN" and I can only turn the laptop off

Thanks for making this video, didn't underexplain nor overexplain, a great video
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video! I was really excited to try all this with my new Echo. I followed every step and nothing worked... I have a hunch that my Ubiquiti Unify setup might complicate things as I have multiple MAC addresses for my setup... do you happen to know how to get this to work?
Not really familiar with the Ubiquiti Unify network setup tbh, but there should still be only 1 mac address for the lan card on you PC. The mac address is the hardware address so you need to find the one for your wired network card on the pc itself as this doesn't work via WiFi. Best thing is to get a free wake on lan app for your phone and use that to find and test the right mac address and check the setup is correct on your PC
@@AndysTechLife Yes, I found the 1 MAC address for my LAN card, but before that MAC address is my switch which has a different MAC address, and before THAT is a gateway which has ANOTHER MAC address. So the order goes Gateway MAC >> Switch MAC >> LAN MAC.. too much of a networking noob to try and get this =/
You shouldn't need any of those tbh. The wake on lan command will go straight to the mac address of the PC. As long as all the devices are on the same network the echo should see and be able to talk to the MAC of the PC. Don't over complicate it by worrying about other devices. Best option is to start by getting wake on lan working from the phone app and work from there.
@@AndysTechLife Thanks! I'll give it a shot and see if it works
After this feature, can voice command the programs on your pc to start also?
Not yet, I think the PC version of the Alexa app may support this soon, in the meantime you can get windows to auto start programmes when the PC starts.
my WIFI is built in with my motherboard would it still work and if not can i use ethernet
Has to be wired ethernet since when the PC shuts off the WiFi card can't operate or authenticate with the network, whereas LAN cable keep the network card alive and connected.
I enabled the skill on the app and went through all the steps yet it is still not powering on my PC. Can someone please help!

Thanks! Very helpful! Works great after some BIOS tweaking. Dec 2020.
Good to hear. Thanks for the feedback!
Sorry where in the bios settings do I change it
Help I am on hp laptop and I want to do the bios settings what I have to do?
If its Windows 10 you might be able to restart into recovery mode which will let you get into the bios if the PC has a UEFI bios. Instructions below. If not you'll have to google how to get into the bios for your specific laptop.
2 notes:
This may not work on all laptops and be careful changing settings in there as you can do harm to the laptop. So do this at your own risk.
This wake on lan probably won't work with a laptop as it only works with Lan cards and not WiFi carfs and you'd need to have power coming into the laptop and a network cable connected all the time.
Restarting into bios from Windows 10:
Navigate to settings. You can get there by clicking the gear icon on the Start menu.
Select Update & security.
Select Recovery from the left menu.
Click Restart Now under Advanced startup.
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
Can you tell me what to do after that bios setting
Hey, your best bet is to check the comments as the setup differs from PC to PC and sometimes you need to change additional settings to get WOL to work. Remember also that it only works with LAN cards and not WiFi. A good idea is to get a free WOL app for your phone to test.
Nice tutorial, who new this feature would work with Alexa.
Hey Andy, the skill works perfectly to turn on my pc but when i say turn off to alexa it does nothing. the app has my licese but says disconnected. Could you help me with this issue?
I found this happens if there's a space at the end of the licence key when copying and pasting, so check there's no blank space. Also check if the WOL app on windows can get through any firewall you have setup as it may not be able to verify the licence. If this does not work you should reach out to the developer, his contact details are on. The bottom of the site.
@@AndysTechLife Thank u so much, it worked!
For some reason this is not working for me, I did triple check everything, my MAC is right, I tried multiple names for the PC, the PC is showing in my devices in Alexa app, I did re do it couple of times in different orders, in the bios wake op on lan is enabled, it is the right lan card because it is the only one I have and I did quadruple check that my PC is using that card to connect to the internet, even in the bios the MAC was the same as the one on wolskill, account is showing as linked with green color and still when I tell alexa to start it with no matter what what "switch on my" or "turn on the" she says "OK" and nothing happens...

@@AndysTechLife Ok, your answer made me search again to maybe find why it didn't work and I found it and fixed it! The issue was that in the BIOS of ASUS mobos(B360 Asus ROG STRIX F-Gaming is mine) there is a setting "Power on PC by PCI-E" which have to be enabled, and now it works perfectly. Maybe you can communicate that some other users aswell, it is in the Advanced/APM Configuration/Power on PC by PCI-E - Enabled, thank you.
I need some help here :( I have done the following: Installed the WOL app on my PC, allowed it through Firewall, triple checked the MAC adress, allowed "Power on PCI-E" in my BIOS (that is what it is called on my ASUS MB), installed the WOL skill on my Alexa, but when I tell her to discover new devices, she doesnt find any :(
Try a free WOL app on your phone to see if WOL is working on your PC. But it sounds like there is an issue with the WOL skill itself as even if your PC isn't set up correctly as soon as you have any MAC address set up on the WOL skill website Alexa should pick it up in the App. Website->skill->Alexa App... So it sounds like the issue is between wolskill and Alexa rather than the PC
The wolskill doesn't work the wolskill app just says disconnected. I even bought the premium but I'm not getting any use out of it.
Best to check out the other comments on this video as there are multiple reasons. Hopefully you'll find a resolution in one of them. The skill saying disconnected is generally a firewall issue or wrong MAC address. Failing that your best bet is to contact the skill creator.
Is on board lan workable? I cannot find ""wake on magic packet"
It should still work with the ethernet built into the motherboard. This is the setup I have, but I still had to update the drivers for the ethernet before I could see all the options. If this doesn't work you might need to check your bios settings for it. It varies slightly from board to board.
is it possible to turn on and off even if i dont have an alexa echo dot, but i have alexa app in pc and phone?
Off will probably work since its using an app on the PC but for on you need a physical device to send the wake on lan packet over the network.
Hi Andy and everyone. Great Video I just can't bring my Alexa to turn on the computer. Does the computer need a WLAN connection? My PC has only a LAN connection. Can this be the problem? Otherwise I don't know where I fail. I followed every step.
Hi there, yes this only works with Lan not over WiFi. Most common issues are the driver for the network card needing updating, firewall blocking or wrong MAC address on the website. What's interesting is that the Alexa skill will pick up the device even if the MAC address is incorrect as it takes its queue from the website. Best thing to try is install a free Wake on LAN app for your phone and see if everything works doing that way. If not you know its the pc or network that is the issue. If it does work then you know its an issue with the WOL skill. Hope this helps.
SOLUTION: To everyone who does have ASUS motherboard and still can't make it work after following all steps. You need to go in to the BIOS under Advanced/APM Configuration/Turn on PC by PCI-E and set it to Enabled and it will work!
Thanks so much for the comment, hope others find this really helpful! :D
I have a sus motherboard
woooooooow you just helped so much
you are a W my friend
Still doesn’t work.. rip
@@XerxesPlayZ yeah tf do we do now? It doesn’t work at all for me and I did this step afterwards
Thanks for the tips , I only can turn off the PC neither turn it on or sleep , any thoughts
* firewall blocking
* wrong mac address on website
* lan card needs updating
very clair and details are So helpfull thanksss !!
Plz help. ive gone through several tutorials with the same thing being said and while ive done everything, my pc isnt being picked up on the alexa app :(
So first and foremost, you need to ensure that the WOLskill website has the correct MAC address for your PC before anything will be detected in the Alexa app. Try a free WOL app on your phone to see if WOL is working on your PC, this will also give you the correct MAC address.
Once you've confirmed this try reinstalling the WOLSkill skill in the Alexa app, making sure you login with the same details on both the skill and the WOLskill website, so the order should be:
Website->skill->Alexa App
Hope this helps.
@@AndysTechLife got alexa to turn on my pc but not turn it off. not sure why it wont turn off but this helped
For off, you might need to make an exception on the Wolskill PC applet to get through windows firewall / defender so it can listen for the switch off request.
Does this work to computers connected to your internet wirelessly or does it have to physically be connected via Ethernet?
Only works with wired ethernet as, when powered off the WiFi card doesn't keep connected to the network and can't authenticate so it's Lan only.
The wol app on the computer asks for an Amazon ID.. what is an amazon ID?
Amazon ID is given to you when you sign up through the WOLskill website. You need to sign up for a licence to use the PC app and once you do this then the website will give you your amazon ID and license key.
works really well nice one
Nice job - very helpful vid
I've done everything and have gotten as far as getting my pc to turn off through Alexa but it won't turn on either while shut down or sleeping. Please help!

Amazing ! I really want it. Just buyed echo dot right now thanks to amazon prime day. I can't wait to setup it and turn my PC on with alexa commands
Half works for me. I can turn the PC off, but not on. (Paid for the license) The “Power on by PCIe” setting in my BIOS is missing/has been replaced by “Power on by PME device” Tried enabling that and it doesn’t work. Not sure if my PC just doesn’t have the capabilities?

Some are pretty well buried or have slightly different names or descriptions, but most have the functionality.
Does this work with wired connections only? I do not have a wifi card.
Yup, only works with wired lan cards. WiFi cards disconnect from the network when off so they won't work. Only works with LAN.
perfect when you need something home at your PC and you can turn it on from office.
One of the things I use it for :)
so I got it to work for turning my computer on from sleep mode, but it will not power on from off status and it also wont turn my pc off either and I did purchase the license. any ideas? thanks
Same Problem
I know the first time it didnt work for me I had to update the driver for my network card and then it worked. You might also check if theres a setting that allows the device to shut down the computer as I've seen this in some power settings and ensure this is enabled. Hope this helps. Seems like this isn't the most straightforward setup for some people.
@@AndysTechLife that didn't work for me
I did everything correctly, enable the wake on lan settings on bios, add the wake on lan skill and everything but still my pc wont turn on. can you help me

Great video. Found it very useful. Liked and Subcribed 👍
Awesome, thank you!
It doesn't work :( I tried with other wake on lan app and worked perfectly, but when I try with alexa just nope. Can anybody help me?
Sorry If I have a bad English but Im spanish btw
Check out some of the comments on the video. Most likely causes are: Incorrect MAC address used, firewall blocking, or incorrect settings for wake on LAN. I would check the MAC address first.
Thank you I appreciate it!
hi, i don't know if you have already responded to somebody about this, but my alexa just says "ok" and then doesnt do anything. Anything I can do?
Alexa will pick up the device as soon as you've set it up on the WOLskill website, but that doesn't necessarily mean that your PC is set up correctly. Best thing to do is download a free wake on lan app on your phone and see if this works to turn on the PC, if not it means the PC isn't set up correctly. The main reason tends to be wrong MAC address. Remember it needs to be the LAN card and not a WiFi card. Hope this helps.
Have a look through some of the other comments too for other things to try. :)
I need help all it did was sag okay I tried the other mac addresses but it still doesnt work :
