1st time for me. I won’t have a problem after watching this video. Socket will be a trick. Some of my friends use a torch and I was going to against my better judgment single I have a lot of extra grease lol. Thanks for posting
It will work but you need to cut down one side of it with an air hammer with a spot weld breaker on it. But, once you get it to the last bit of a hard ring switch to the torch and just nick the edge and then switch the bit out on you're air hammer with a long punch and just knock it off remember you already cut one side of it where the clutch brake rides on the input shaft. Just take you're time 4 psi acetylene and 20 psi oxygen.
Thank you very much for your video. It helped me out a lot and I really like the socket method to snap that bolt out of there. Thank you very much Andy Mikhail, MM Express logistics LLC. Thank you sir for your video very informative.
Thank you for much tanker What causes those ears that fit in the slots on the spline to wear out. I put one of those exact parts on my Freightliner and within about 5 days it had worn those to ears right off smooth. What am I doing wrong to make that happen? I appreciate anyone answering this question and it would be great to have you make a video on this subject.
I've got one to do, unfortunately its not a two piece. I'm gonna try this method and see how it goes, anything has to be better than a torch up there. I use to always cut them out with an a/o torch. Thank you.
Can you please explain here how to do it. I have one piece clutch brake and also milwaukee impact. My only concern is cause impact is too strong i don’t want to ruin the shaft that is coming from the tranny ? please let me know
Really enjoy your videos.....appreciate your knowledge ...hope to see more maintenance videos as well as operating your truck in the patch.. Not sure if you have done this before but maybe a video on the operation of a trailer vac....everything from parts and what they do to how vacumn is created...keep up the good work
Does breaking it work even if it’s not a 2 piece? Like that knowledge you be spreading, I’ve never done one but went to a shop once and was done in 15 minutes, I was like shit, already ? Hell of a job guys
What's up Chris I'm looking at buying a 78 Peterbilt 3406b just kind of wondering if you got any pointers or things to look for as far as motor wise or anything else
The 3406B is or was one of the most reliable cats ever but you still want to check for blow by it’s normal to have a little bit but if it’s shooting out a trail of blow by smoke then it’s ready for rebuild... I would test charge air cooler for leaks and other than that if I runs smooth and sounds good you’re probably in good shape as for rest of truck man you write a book on things to check but air leaks/drive line ujoints/ differentials/hubs/king pins / trans fluid would be major stuff I went over my new Pete for a week finding little things here and there
New subscriber here and thank you for the outstanding tip on removing this. Just bought my first semi (2007 W900 C15 Cat/13 Eaton) and the last time I drove it as I’m getting it ready for the road it was hard to put into gear. I was at a 🛑 and had to force it into gear to get it home. I was not happy. I haven’t looked and hope that it’s just the clutch brake. Once in it shifts fine. My question for you does the socket trick work for all CB or just your style? Thanks in advance!
Absolutely any clutch brake with pin’s always try and break at the pins since this video we have broke a one piece that my buddy tried torching first not sure how much the torch helped but we did snap it
I have milwauke m18 impact with high imput batteries. Do you think it will break it ? and do you think it will damage the shaft that comes from the tranny ? I’m scared it is my first time
thank you so much. Today i replaced a one piece clutch. M18 Milwaukee broke that thing like nothing and use half inch impact grade extension and socket 3/4 size with 1:2 drive grade .Pittsburgh brand. I believe you saved me few hundreds of dollars. 👍👍👍
Can't beat experience. Thank you Sir.

38 years of cutting them out Thank you for this idea. I need to try this on a one piece brake.
Did it work on a 1piece?

Very informative! Hardest part for me was finding a socket that I was willing to sacrifice... worked great, thanks...
Another great video! Always so informative. I really enjoyed the video on how you make battery cables. Those were nice!!!

Thank you for sharing your special tool idea. I'm going to give that a shot.
Best idea I’ve seen for a clutch brake !!
Thank you for much tanker

Been seeing your name...now I see your face. Love it when guys share their knowledge. God bless you.
Great job with the video filming process. Tough to work and film at the same time. Video is a great learning tool.
Crossing my fingers the clutch brake job tomorrow is a two piece 😂 never done one before so hoping I get the easier one to deal with

Did it work on one piece clutch brake
@@saiff7769 yes it worked
Thanks, didn't want to buy a welding jacket.

Gary Feser great idea that I can definitely do the maintenance side has been slow but I can go over some past work thanks for watching
Thanks for the video they're good buddy
Nice video boss thanks from west cost.

Never ran into a one piece I’ve always thought a one piece would be a torch deal
Thanks a lot that was a good tip my mechanic just charged me three hours to do the job LOL what a rip off

@@TANKERMONKEY thanks man I really appreciate that
Thanks for the help boss 👍🏼
Great. Thanks. I’m about to give it a crack!
I have seen this done with a 3/4 extension . What size socket did you use to make that tool?
I think it was a 3/4 or 7/8 impact just has to be big enough to grind a slot into
very good job thanks
Very nice..thanks
Excellent. Thanks!

Damn fine information.Thanks
Go to the new residential house should be lots of carpet in the dumpsters
I second the wasted years cutting the old ones out ,
Great info appreciate it driver
What's the average life of a clutch??
Side comment---> your carpet idea is not silly at all. Always a plus if you can keep things clean. Thanks for all the tips here. 👍🏻
Thank you sir
And there's an idea for your next video if you're interested Purchasing a used semi things to look for and what to expect )
I have milwauke m18 impact with high imput batteries. Do you think it will break it ? and do you think it will damage the shaft that comes from the tranny ? I’m scared it is my first time
even a one piece should break
Do you think it can cause any damage on those splines on the input shaft ?
negative if the clutch brake needs replacing then the two tabs that touch the splines are snapped off already@@brkbrk5205

best bet is a 3/4" gun and just grind a slot in the 3/4" extension. snaps it in under 5seconds and comes right out
Thanks buddy!
Awesome. Thanks man
Good thinking!
Will this work on one piece clutch brakes?
Sometimes yes but the one time I did a one piece I used a 4’ 3/4 breaker bar… if not it’s time for the torch
Bad to the bone bro thanks
How u remove the one piece clutch brake?
One piece is a torch job this works for two piece with pins or hinged
I have never tried to break a one piece like this it may be possible with enough torque
