Join YachtWorld and boat reviewer Marilyn DeMartini for a full walkthrough of a 2024 Vandal Explorer 46 boat in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with Ryan Sturgis from Vandal Marine. This tough, foil-assisted, aluminum power catamaran is akin to a 4x4 of the sea and is built for adventure! Powered by twin Yamaha 425 XTOs she cruises easily at 30 knots with a top speed of 40 knots and can comfortably make 25 knots into a 4-5 foot head sea with an impressively smooth, dry ride. The foil assisted catamaran design handles rough water from any direction due to additional lift of the foil as well as the overall hull shape. Vandal claims the foiling reduces fuel consumption by up to 25-30%, and helps give the vessel a range of around 240 nautical miles.
Unlike most open boats and center consoles of similar size the Vandal Explorer 46 has a full flybridge and carries a 3.2M RIB Tender (10.5') complete with a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke and integrated davit. Creature comforts include an full galley, head with shower, eight person dining area and plenty of seating and lounging. This could also make a perfect dive boat.
Despite her industrial looking rugged design, she features a comfortable cabin interior. Hull #3 is equipped with a king berth accessed via the port companionway a head and full galley. Designed as an open boat where you can coexist with the elements there's plenty of protection when the weather turns within the pilot house distinguished by excellent visibility through the large negative windows.
The hull design is asymmetrical, constructed from lightweight, high-strength 5083 aluminum giving the boat a great power to weight ratio while providing what Vandal says is better impact performance than standard fiberglass layup. The aluminum is also highly corrossion-resistant and allows the builder to make unique customizations.
One of Vandal's main goals is to build environmentally-friendly, efficient boats that incorporate solar panels and features like an onboard waste incinerator to minimizes black water along with the utilization of recycled materials throughout the boat. So, if you're looking for a tough, industrial-chic modern power cat cruiser for some off grid adventure cruising, this boat might be worth a hard look!

I think this boat is so overrated. It's a 46' boat, and a catamaran at that, yet they only gave it 1 cabin. If they redesigned the layout, they could make it 2 cabjns and 1 shared head. I get the 'rough and tumble' approach, but it has no A/C, no heating, no watermaker, your fridges are coolers and the back deck is wide open. It's a dayboat that you could stay a weekend on. You can't even flip the table down to make an extra bed. Meanwhile, look at the Greenline 46 or the Absolute 46 Pathfinder. More space. More cabins. Bering, who I love, is also making their own aluminum explorer catamarans, with one cabin. I habe an idea how to make that better, but nobody has offered me enough money tomshare the idea yet.

Fair points. Although those others you mentioned aren't foil-assisted or aluminum, so somewhat different purposes and target audiences there. We do love the Greenline yachts, and we've featured them before - we currently have 94 Greenline yachts listed for sale on YachtWorld. Great boats. Also, FYI, we've heard Vandal is working on different layouts and cockpit designs that might appeal more to you.
