Barry played 10 seasons which is not a short career. The only rushing record in his grasp wus the yards but emmitt smith wus always on his ankles and would have still gotten it n the end because he always had the drive and determination to have the record as he told everyone that when he retired he would be the all time rushing leader. To say it before his first NFL game then to actually do wut everyone said he couldn't that's on a whole other level
If Barry plays another 5 seasons, Emmitt is trying to hobble around as a 40 year old as a backup on a horrible team trying to catch him. Adrian Peterson ended his career trying to do just that. He kept trying to play to catch Emmitt and he just couldn’t do it.
Both Barry and Emmitt had incredible careers, no doubt. Barry’s talent and elusiveness were unmatched, while Emmitt’s drive and determination to claim the all-time rushing record were legendary. It’s true that Emmitt set his sights on that record from the start and delivered, but Barry’s early retirement leaves us all wondering 'what if?' It’s an interesting debate-both have left a lasting legacy!
@@gregrowe1168 first of all emmitt smith wus never a back up and he definitely isn't trash like Adrian Peterson, also Barry would be in decline you could already see that in 98. Totally fair! Tony Gonzalez had an incredible career, especially with his consistency over the years. Gronk’s versatility gives him the edge for me, but both are legends. Thanks for the feedback!
Wrong. Stopped watching after the first 2. Barry Sanders was a highlight machine, not the greatest RB. He holds the career record for getting stuffed and faded in the playoffs and in tough conditions. Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton were both more consistent in moving the chains and keeping their offenses on the field. They, Jim Brown, and maybe some others have better arguments for GOAT. Even Tom Brady isn't a lock at QB, contrary to your claim. He enjoyed unreal longevity due to advanced medical care and rules protecting QBs more than ever before, along, of course, with the era's massive passing stat inflation. I'm not sure Brady would have lasted long let alone thrived in earlier eras. The GOAT should be able to transcend eras. Do you really think Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, or Roger Staubach wouldn't be lighting up the stat board and playing many more years if they got to play in this era?
Appreciate the insight! Barry’s highlight reel is unmatched, but I get your point about consistency and playoff performance. As for Brady, the era argument is valid, but his dominance in clutch moments across two decades sets him apart. The GOAT debate is always tough because each era has its own challenges.
