    Greetings from Maryland (USA). I don't know that I would ever make my own soap but found you to be quite delightful, easy to watch and interesting. At age 58, I'm new to the wet shaving/safety razor world and still trying to figure out the pucks, loading a brush and the best razor blades. The only thing I can say for sure is that it gets a little easier each day.

    Ellys, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge for free! You are amazing! ❤🤩
    I’d like to share my experience making this recipe today. I started by just mixing with a whisk, but I found the texture too thin, so I decided to use a mixer, fearing I hadn’t mixed it enough and might ruin the recipe. The mixture thickens very quickly due to the soywax, and for those planning to make it for sale, be careful, as it’s hard to pour it neatly into the moulds. I’ll be back soon to say whether my recipe worked and share my opinion.
    😊

    A good tip that I learned from a soap maker us use ice. It helps cool the lye and helps with the fumes too

    I razor blade shave every day or rarely every other day. Yes a good lather is important but, even more important is the glide, and the most important is that the soap will not dry your skin even a little! Are there any men reading this that have used this soap that could assure me this is a great shaving soap?thank you for sharing a very nice video! I subscribed and liked.

      Thanks Michael. Great point you make. Personally, for shaving my legs I love a simple castile soap (the most gentle), but this soap is very gentle too and all the men I know who use it (at least 4 individuals over a number of years) say it's great to use and glides well.

    Hi Elly, I have just made your shaving soap and it was so easy thank you very much. It was a first for me using soy wax and bentonite clay. I was going to use the stick blender as it was taking a few minutes to come to trace but just as well I didn't, wow just got there in time. I think it was because I used ice for my water. Thoughly enjoyed making it. Once again thank you very much.

Secondly when it done I was rubbing it on my hand and it’s not lathering at all 🤭 I thought all my hard work gone waste.. But! After that I use my husband’s shaving brush and after rubbing it sometimes it’s started lathering… and after that I was like …. ‘YES! Elly I did it’ 🥰🥰🥰

    Hi Elly, thanks for your amazing videos. I just made this and about a week later it seems a bit lye heavy still when I test the pH. Can I recook this as a hot batch soap? I am not sure what I did wrong, as I very precisely followed your excellent instructions, but it did seem to take a long time to trace then went thick quickly - perhaps the essential oils? It did transform like normal soaps then just took ages .. I am concerned that it solidified simply because it got cool enough to because of the soy wax...

I made this yesterday and didn't have a spritzer bottle to spray and as a result I got soda ash. I can see it has soda ash on top and it is speckled down the debth of it ...about 1 cm. Is that ok to use? Does it just reduce the quality somehow?

  • @bundubeard
    @bundubeard 2 роки тому

    Thanks for the video. Apart from hard/soft water, what is the most prominent feature/ingredient/process to ensure a residual slickness? Many shaving soaps will leave you with a moist but 'sticky' skin, one can basically pass a razor over your skin once or twice, but once the lather is removed by the blade, that's it. Then there are others where I can do stroke after stroke (up to 10 strokes with a straight razor) and the slippery sensation simply remains. The soaps in the latter category also takes quite some time to rinse from your brush.

    • @EllysEverydaySoapMaking
      @EllysEverydaySoapMaking  2 роки тому +1

      I think that commercially made shaving soaps have more residual slick to them, whereas this performs more like a normal soap and washes off quite readily. To be honest, I have not used this soap a lot myself - mainly made for friends and regular face shaving folk!

    Hi Elly, could you please share the details for your scales (big and small). I have some scales but after using them for a year I feel they aren't the best and I always struggle measuring my EO. This recipe looks so good too! I've made shaving soap before but not with soy wax, so excited to try this one. Thanks, Sam.

      Thanks Sam! My big scale is a Salter brand, which is quite accurate and I love it for bread making as well www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/1073789410/salter-leaf-electronic-kitchen-scale-5kg-black
      My little scale is just a cheap 'gram scale' from ebay. You just want one that can measure as low as a tenth of a gram (or less). I find the small scale great for weighing tiny amounts of things accurately.

    Hi Elly, do you think you could you use Australian tea tree EO instead of the rosemary eo? I have 100ml of tea tree eo and only small amount of rosemary.

      Thanks Vivian, I'm not sure to be honest! I've only ever used the soy wax. There may be other options available but you'd probably have to calculate a new recipe.

    Elly, just wondering but why the wax change i use 464 soy so I have some on hand, so i don't want to have to buy more atm if I dont have too, thanks for sharing, I have a great shaving recipe, but never tried cp.. so I'm going to check it out, but I just was curious beforehand. Ty so much, oh also I usually will sub the water with gm or oat milk for sensitive skin, would that effect it in any way you think? Ty beautiful recipe, I love simplicity and Elegance this definitely fits that, I always give a shout out on my channel if inspired by another soap maker, Ive done that since the beginning, ive never copied a recipe, I usually kind of tweak it like u have & give credit where credit is due..okie Doki Toot aloo Se la ve.. ty for any response. as i realize this is an older video. Ive been a soap artisan and candle maker now for 4 yrs wow. i can't believe it's been that long, okay ramblings. thanks doll. oh, what kind of book you writing, Im writing a book as well, it's more about my multicultural background, spiritual kind of book. I thought I'd pass along what i know about foraging & as a Native Cherokee, First Nation Mix. lol theres lots of remedies, all natural ones from Nature that are better than anything that comes over the counter🙃😉, only my opinion. Thanks again I'll be sure to pass along who inspired this lovely recipe along with my own. 😉😊

    Hello Elly, great recipe, a question how long it can last once done, thanks for your contribution you are fantastic, la calculadora que usa es soapCalc, If so, this would be like a fully hydrogenated soybean.Thanks for your answer

    • @EllysEverydaySoapMaking
      @EllysEverydaySoapMaking  2 роки тому

      Thank you Nancy. This soap lasts as long as any other if stored well. And yes I chose the 'fully hydrogenated' option in soap calc.

      @@EllysEverydaySoapMaking thanks for answering, I'll tell you that 2 days ago I made shaving soap, I put goat's milk, silk, I didn't put sodium citrate but I was tempted to do it, it's already drying I'll wait 6 weeks and try it, thank you very much

    With soy being such an intensive crop I try to axiom it. Could I use cape wax as a supstitute? Or will that mess up the ratios?
