I think the best treatment and the most sustainable treatment with the least side effects or almost no disadvantages are herbal plants that come from pure strains and are not GMO plants. In the past, when people did not use pesticides, almost all types of vegetable food in my country had very good medicinal properties. For example, green curry is very delicious and has a very fragrant smell. The green curry soup also contains many herbs such as fingerroot, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, eggplant, basil, coriander root, white pepper, and many other things that add deliciousness to the soup. The previous generation was very healthy and almost did not take chemical medicine like today. Excellent.🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Just for your info, herbs are not GMO. GMO crops are mainly corn, wheat canola, potatoes, egg plant, papaya and a few others. I don’t think there is such a thing as GMO herbs 😊

Very informative and helpful. Thank you both for this. I'm a machinist, and working with metal gives me lots of small cuts and scrapes on my fingers and hands. At 48 years old, these minor injuries don't heal nearly as fast as they used to. I'll give it a go at making a salve like this and see if it helps my heal faster. Much love from the US ❤

If you can get your hands on some yarrow and chickweed that should be helpful. Let us know how you go with it 😊

@Australian_Medicinal_Herbs Thank you very much. I'll see if I can find a place that has those. If not, I'll have to grow some for myself when spring arrives.

Love these videos of how to use plants (other than eating). How long does the salve last; six months, a year, or perhaps forever? Does the efficacy change with time?

    • @TheWeedyGarden
      @TheWeedyGarden  Місяць тому +3

Chat gpt is a lot faster than me, and probably more accurate, but just ask and it will say…
A salve made from comfrey-infused olive oil and beeswax can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on how it is stored and the quality of the ingredients. However, the salve may lose its potency over time as the active compounds in comfrey degrade. Here's a breakdown:
      Factors Affecting Shelf Life
      Storage Conditions:
Keep the salve in a cool, dark place to prevent oxidation and spoilage.
Use a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture.
      Stability of Olive Oil:
Olive oil can oxidize and turn rancid over time. The addition of beeswax helps stabilize it, but the oil's quality and freshness at the time of making the salve are crucial.
      Preservatives:
If no natural preservatives (like vitamin E oil) are added, the salve is more likely to degrade faster.
      Contamination:
Ensure clean tools and hands are used to avoid introducing bacteria or mold.
      Loss of Effectiveness
The active compounds in comfrey, such as allantoin, can degrade with time and exposure to heat, light, and air.
After about 1-1.5 years, the potency of the salve may noticeably decrease, though it may still have some moisturizing or soothing benefits.
      Tips to Extend Shelf Life
Add antioxidants like vitamin E oil to slow down oxidation.
Store in an opaque or amber-colored jar to protect it from light.
Keep it refrigerated to extend the shelf life, though it may harden in the cold.
By following these steps, your comfrey salve will remain effective for as long as possible, but using it within the first year is ideal for maximum benefits.

I recently used a comfrey salve to remove a skin growth with great success (my doctor had already burnt it off 3 times over 8 weeks but it kept on coming back). That comfrey salve really lasts well and it looks like the day I bought it in 1996. I bought in 1996 for my daughter’s nappy rash. She is 28 years old now.

just a couple of questions: What can you use instead of a crockpot? Would a Bain Marie of some sort on the stove or ín the oven do the trick? And if making a salve of only comfrey be good for osteoarthritis pain relief in the hands and other areas?

I have heard that, for the most part, the aerial parts of herbs are more potent when harvested in spring and early summer, and roots in fall. Is this info accurate?

BTW, It's much worse than a mosquito bite...I have used jewel weed which helps but not enough. comfrey gets things healed faster but still looking for the missing itch killer ingredient.
