I'm in Florida and i gather sea weed all the time. I use it directly as mulch and also add to my compost pile and mix with my sandy native soil for potting plants as well. If it's free, it's for me! ❤
Hah, when I was a kid and my parents took us to the beach it was to collect seaweed! They used to wash it in the garden back then before shoving it thru a mulcher and digging it into the garden… this has brought me a lot closer to understanding why they did that… thank you. I’ve been getting the fish guts and bones from friends in the previous town we lived in, but now we’re in proper country - only the shops have fish 😂
Nice one Weedy ❤. I made a around 100L of Fish fertiliser from fish guts, water and humus, gathered underneath an older acacia. Got quite smelly this time. I filled the strained liquid into 5L Plastic bottles for easy handling later on. Luckily the Neighbours are seldom there (i'm storing the containers near to their property). Last summer they kept on searching for dead animals in the bushes. Smelly business but the plants love it. Luckily the smell is nearly gone 24 hours after applying the diluted fish fertiliser...
June is the month that all the sargassum and sea grass starts to wash up in my area, this video has motivated me ti go collect a few bucket fulls for my compost heap.
Weedy…my glorious brother, I can’t express how grateful I am for you and all the down right amazing content you share with us. Much love and gratitude for what you do! Can’t wait for the next one. Top notch content
That works like a charm, did it 2 years ago for my fruit trees and that year i got the highest yields, a little smelly but it was even better than my worm castings.
We are so pleased with this information, and please get some other time to let as know about the calcium got from the prowns or the oyster she'll as well.
What an awesome informative video @Weedy, thank you so much, I am loving your informative and fun content so much P.s Thank you Nick for your generosity in sharing your wonderful recipe :) #highlight
Feels like you just made a version of SAUERKRAUT for your garden 💚🦠🌱 Thanks Weedy for the inspiration and knowledge you share. Recently made my first batch of sauerkraut, now for a big batch for the garden I am dreaming up. 🌻
Awesome video! I love my seaweed fertiliser and pretty cool to be able to use LAB to really make it next-level good! Thanks so much for always making such informative and digestible content ☺️ from a happy gardener in the far south of New Zealand!
Are you allowed to gather seaweed up there? Down in Melbourne, we can gather a small amount of beach-cast seaweed in some areas, but we are meant to get permission first. They say 2 shopping bags worth. There's a fish cleaning station about 15 km from me so that parts covered. it certainly works as a garden booster. Cheers!
If you are near some of our large freshwater rivers like the Murray or the Murrumbidgee then i imagine one could use carp as the fish source. So easy to catch and considered a pest in our waterways
Hi Weedy!! Im in Nambucca Heads, so glad to know we are basically neighbours 😂 I make my own greek yoghurt regularly and I keep all the whey that is drained off and put it in a jar in the fridge. Some goes to my chooks as a healthy snack but I was wondering if I could be using this to make my own fertiliser? Everytime I make a new yoghurt I throw out the jar of whey that doesnt get used and I refill the jar with fresh whey. After watching all your Lacto B videos Im thinking I could be throwing away a great garden resource. Also, I cant really afford to buy bulk molasses, so is there a way that I might be able to use the whey and maybe some brown sugar to create a garden fertiliser? I grow many bananas on my property, hubby loves his freshly ground coffee and I live not far from the beach with access to seaweed so Im thinking I have all the ingredients here and just need to know how to put it altogether. Thank you for your amazing and inspiring videos. Hubby and I love watching them!!
Awesome video weedy. Would love to see a bucket reveal in 3 months time to see what it looks like when it’s done. Is there a possibility of getting the end product under a powerful enough microscope so we can see what “gazillions of bacteria” looks like??? Maybe compared to just usual rain water…?
So...I have access to everything but the molasses. I do have sugar cane growing but no grinder, could I just chop, say, 1 kg sugar cane pieces i to each bucket i stead? Thanks. Please keep up the great 'work" you are doing, it is the best!
You can make a foliar 6:22 spray from the molasses, fish fertilizer, and seaweed. 4litres of water, 1 tblsp of fish fertilizer(you could soak your fish bones in the 4 litres first overnight before you bury it) 2 tbsps of mollases and grind up a bit of seaweed to liquid a handful. You spray your plants 6am or late in day till they bloom, do this twice a week. You will be amazed at how fast it grows. Squash , zuccini, everything. Happy planting❤🎉❤ if you grind up oyster shells for the garden soil it will boost your calcium. Or in Okinawwah they use coral to boost the calcium in their gardens. Just some tips for you.
Could I use the lactobacillus culture from YAKULT the milk drink for kids? It seems to be a good kickstarter unless you’re concerned about something in the yakult Cheers mate!
You could, but when a plant is young, it does not use all the stuff. When it fruits, you use the prawn juice. You could. It is a good idea, but this is designed to follow the moon cycles. Try to see on his website
@@TheWeedyGarden Thanks… I don’t know why I didn’t think of that . I did plant 2 comfrey plants this year so I’ll have them for next years garden and to start making my own fertilizer.
Unfortunately this cannot work for us as we live by the forest and the foxes come out nightly to dig up anything that smells like food or fish! They even had a go at my recycling bin’s empty fish cans.
Thanks for taking us back to the beach up there, Natures calling us all to Grow Our Own Organic Food Before they crash the bankster r😅un system..Do you have à Well or Rainwater Tanks for Chemical free water..

If you can’t get molasses, use RAW sugar
Do you put all 3 buckets into one after filtering the organics out?
No

Seems so intresting about oyster as well. So wish to let the weedy garden show us to get along with that as well.
Did you get fish guts and scales?
just the skelletons
Would the salt water kill the bacteria ?

Maybe someone can answer that
The LAB only has Lactobacillus bacteria. I can’t say what anything other than that contains 😊
What about Carp? I know we don't eat them but would they go great as a bury and forget fertilizer?
100%
What if I live by the river? Could I use the green materials in a river to make a nitrogen brew.
Great! Why don't you mix all three instead of keeping them in separate buckets?
You could, but when a plant is young, it does not use all the stuff. When it fruits, you use the prawn juice. You could. It is a good idea, but this is designed to follow the moon cycles. Try to see on his website

yep
May I ask where you buy your Molasses please.?
Norco or any store they sell animal feed, or a health food store or Woolworths in the sugar isle
Do you keep refilling de bucket or once is close, don't open it for 3 months?

it s important
Salt will kill your plants. Fish bones have lots of phosphorus.
This amount will not
I wanted to specify because you made it sound like sea water was good for the garden. Salt is good for controlling "bad" bacteria.
I dont think nick invented that container.
That was a slip of the tongue. You are right. He “uses” them I should have said.
I've got a 60 litre bucket with absolute foul-smelling seaweed fertiliser. Fish heads, guts, bones... and ooooooh my, its on the nose...phew 🫢🤣
Sounds great!
