The plot twist may be that it’s not the property owner putting up the lines. If this is privately managed land, the forest owner probably gets some degree of funding from local ATV/bike/SxS riding groups and local campgrounds to maintain the trails. Often times, it’s upset neighbors who sneak down the trails to put up these cables, whether due to engine noise at later hours than they deem acceptable or from drunk riders littering on roads and trails. If the property owner isn’t able to survey their trails daily, they may very well not be aware that someone is trespassing on their land and putting their guests in harm’s way.

We can deduct from the video that the trail is used by bikers, so regardless of the area being private property or not we can assume someone wanted to do some kinda of harm to the east riding the trail. Colliding with a metal wire at a speed as fast as the guys in the video would most likely cause either full on decapitation or some form of a broken neck, spinal cord damage, severe blunt force trauma to the head after the biker is knocked off his bike, or some combination of the three.

Me and my dad used to go shooting out in the woods by our house. There was a giant sand and dirt mound we would dump mags into when we got a new gun. We’d ride our side by side out to it, it’s super common for people to go mudding in the area and often there were new people dumping mags too. One morning we went out and found a steel cable between to trees and a teenager laying on the ground and his ATV about 20 feet ahead. Poor kid caught it in the chest and we had to drag him out of there. Turned out to be some people that lived next to the mud gates entrance that got annoyed that people went mudding out there. 14 year old boy had a massive cut across his chest and a few broken ribs over some stupid people getting annoyed. Idk if they ever got a criminal charge but that shit could have been so much worse

Bike traps are absolutely insane. Some people really are just sadistic idiots. What’s the point? They’re illegal too. There are also tons of different kinds. The cable at head or neck level being the most common but they also put them at handlebar or mid-wheel level in order to make the bike go crazy and minimum severely injure the rider. This is also done with fishing line to make it less visible. Another very common trap is where they’ll put a board on the ground and either put tons of small nails and/or screws to pop the bikes tired or cause the rider to fall, or, the more dangerous version, ginormous spikes or roofing nails that can kill someone. Some people are even crazy enough to do some home alone type crap and make a gun system but those are alot more rare, probably because it’s easier to trace and louder and harder to do. Then there are the people that’ll just shoot. Please check the trail you’re riding before you ride. It’s sad but it’s a real, common and horrific issue that takes hundreds of life’s and almost never receive justice because the culprits are almost never caught

For anyone who thinks otherwise. Making a trap like this is illegal across the ENTIRE United States. EVEN on your own property. Doesn't matter the reason. You set up something like this, and get caught, it's most likely Federal prison for you.
Edit: So many people don't know the law. For those who think you're fine setting a trap on your property, do yourself a favor and Google "are you allowed to booby trap your own property?" EVERY WEBSITE YOU SEE will tell you that you cannot legally do this. There are plenty of official government websites that support my comment.
ADDITIONAL edit: everyone is also stating they know for a fact this clip is filmed by bikers trespassing on private property. How do you know? You weren't there, you don't know this guy, you probably don't even have any idea where he was riding.
    EVEN MORE ADDITIONAL edit:
I have now included more links to actual criminal cases of convicted homeowners who set traps on their property resulting in death or injury of trespassers, even a known gang member who broke in and was killed by a booby trap, in which the homeowner was in court for first degree murder. As well as an incident where a man accidentally killed himself with his own trap AND a guy charged with attempted murder after his trap shot his friend in the legs. Just don't do it. I don't know why so many people don't believe what I'm saying with the amount of evidence I had already previously provided.
People don't just do this on their property, there are PLENTY OF EQS ARTICLES showing people do this on popular dirt biking trails

Why take the risk? Everyone is acting like I support trespassing. No, I don't condone trespassing. But setting traps to prevent them is worse. If ANYTHING, they could legalize some aspects of traps, such as ones that don't cause physical harm and are actual TRAPS, like the word implies, no physical damage to the one it's used on, just used to prevent them from escaping. There are people who went to jail for injuring or killing thieves who broke into their property.

Out of all the comments I seen on this video. This is the best way to troubleshoot this problem. And get rid of these attempted murderers. When you find this kind of trap. Set a trail cam. And take off 1 side of the cable so it looks like it failed. They will try and fix it. Don't cut it. Make it look like it failed on its own. 😏 these MF need to go to jail. I heard lots of stories about this and almost had it happen to me 🤨

Yup had a family friend that rode motorcycles and he would cut through somebody's yard and they got mad and put a wire up and it nearly decapitated him. They ended up going out there and saving his life so he never filed a lawsuit on them for that sole reason. Needless to say they took that wire down.

If you place an object in a way that endangers life, you are responsible if a life is taken.
It doesn’t matter if it’s your property or not.
Want bikers to stop coming on your property? Build a fence, gravel the paths, put some big ass logs at your boundary, but placing a goddamn garrotte, even ‘accidentally’, will still hold you culpable for atleast manslaughter, if not murder.

Maybe just buy a cable gate from Lowes? A 5/8" steel cable hooked to a post on one side and a padlock mount on the other. Literally designed, marketed and sold commercially as a gate to stop a vehicle from passing through an access point.

In the Infantry I had a platoon sergeant from Montana. He had a scar from the corner of his mouth all the way across one side of his face. We always assumed it was combat related.
One day I asked him about the scar. Turns out when he was about 12 he was riding in the woods and someone had strung a wire across the trail. His helmet saved his life. Without the helmet his head would’ve been severed from the mouth up.
