Madonna defined the 80s! The actor playing her father in this video is Danny Aiello. He's been in several movies including Moonstruck with Cher and Nicholas Cage. He died in 2019. RIP Danny Aiello.

To me this was her best song she ever sang! As a father, it makes me cry every time I watch this video! A lot of meaning into this song! WE ALL NEED LOVE FOR OUR CHILDREN! It always saddens me to hear a parent say they would disown their child if they ever got pregnant out of wedlock! How could you abandon your child when they need you the most? GREAT SONG!

This song caused a big commotion in the eighties when it was released because it was seemingly about teen pregnancy or at the very least unwed pregnancy! That was still taboo in the eighties! It was another Madonna first, she was always surprising us back then, alwAys reinventing herself!! Madonna’s mom died when she was very young! ❤️❤️

I still remember when this was first released on the radio, and not long after that MTV played the video. At that time this song had heavy play on the radio, and it had it's controversy. Around this time my mom was taking me to middle school one day, and the DJ on the radio said that his daughter was so wrapped up in Madonna (like every kid I knew was back then. Including me) that she was running around putting her cabbage patch doll under her shirt and singing this song. Saying she's keeping her baby. I had the biggest smile on my face. I never forgot that DJ's story LOL.
You guys need to hear Open Your Heart, Live to Tell, Crazy For You, Into the Groove, Angel, La Isla Bonita, Dress You Up -(which was one of the 10 dirty songs Tipper Gore wanted banned from the radio back in the 80s), Madonna has a long list of hits. This woman was named the Artist of the Decade for the 80s. Even into the 90s she didn't stop. Still love this woman ❤❤

That's my 80s NYC. Miss it so much. You can see the World Trade Center in some shots. Then she takes the Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island from Manhattan. I can see as a teen how you could lose your mind when a cute green eyed boy smiles at you. All that home training goes out the window.

That song is so powerful. It really got people's attention back in the 80's and I think it may have opened up some conversation between kids and their parents. The acting in that video was phenomenal, you can really feel that stomach turning tension she held in before telling her father, along with the apprehension and the fear that he may not love her anymore once he knew. I am so glad they ended it the way they did. The actor who plays her father is a famous actor who has been in many movies, I can't think of his name.

I was Madonna for Halloween one year. My wife didn’t find it as funny as I did as she wanted to do a couple costume she said let’s do pop icons haha she meant I’d be mj or prince but I think Madonna was the natural choice haha
