Lyrics:
Papa, I know you're going to be upset
'Cause I was always your little girl
But you should know by now, I'm not a baby
You always taught me right from wrong
I need your help, daddy, please be strong
I may be young at heart, but I know what I'm saying
The one you warned me all about
The one you said I could do without
We're in an awful mess
And I don't mean maybe
Please
Papa don't preach
I'm in trouble, deep
Papa don't preach
I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind
I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, I'm gonna keep my baby, mmm
He says that he's going to marry me
We can raise a little family
Maybe we'll be all right
It's a sacrifice
But my friends keep telling me to give it up
Saying I'm too young, I ought to live it up
What I need right now is some good advice
Please
Papa don't preach
I'm in trouble, deep
Papa don't preach
I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind
I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, I'm gonna keep my baby, aah, ooh
Daddy, daddy, if you could only see
Just how good he's been treating me
You'd give us your blessing right now
'Cause we are in love
We are in love
So please
Daddy, daddy
Daddy, daddy
Daddy, daddy, if you could only see
Just how good he's been treating me
You'd give us your blessing right now
'Cause we are in love
We are in love
So please
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
Papa don't preach
I'm in trouble, deep
Papa don't preach
I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind
I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, I'm gonna keep my baby
Papa don't preach
Don't you stop loving me, daddy
I know I'm gonna keep my baby, ooh

As a 13 year old in 1986, I remember how controversial this song was. I still think it is one of Madonna’s best songs. Bring back the 80s!
I was 13 in 1986, too. I remember the exact moment a friend of mine came over and said "have you already heard Madonna's new song?" Turned out that new song was Papa don't preach. I also miss the 80s.
@@Srum31 wow y'all 50 now I was 6 I remember listening to it on the radio
Why the fuck was this controversial
@@bye3568 because the song was about teen pregnancy, which really wasn’t discussed like it is today.
No Please don’t bring the 80s back

She totally is, her new tour is incredible..
I am surprised you listened to Madonna in your late 30s/early 40s. My older brother and his friends were in their late 20s and they didn't care for her or most 80s pop. I was 17-18, so I was pretty much the target audience.
😍😍😍😍💜💜💜
I'm a 42y.o guy who's lived his entire life in Sydney City of Australia.
As a young kid who listened to a lot of rap music, I used to dance to this song all the time at home.

Unparalleled. They have no understanding the impact.
“Don’t you stop loving me daddy…I know I’m keepin my baby”. Such a touching powerful line in the song coupled with the visual. As a little girl watching this when it came out I didn’t quite understand the message in the video. Who knew that years later in my life this situation of being pregnant young would resonate with me, and having to wonder about the disappointment of how my dad felt at the time. Thank you Madonna, for making timeless, important music that touches the soul when needed. You get your flowers on this one 💐💐💐
Today Madonna would celebrate murdering that baby. She loves abortions.
Agreed and sounded like she was about to cry when she said that

Madonna is the Mother of all Modern Pop Stars.
I was a teenage boy in the 1980s and Madonna was ruling the World, clearing the path for those coming up after her. This song used to hit hard because I had a teenage GF at the time and we were just like these two, only a few years younger perhaps.
Takes me back to those mid 1980s. We had it good back then. Thank you Madonna Louise Ciccone, Beautiful Lady.
God Bless You.
I wish I could find a woman like that now. I'd live inside her for a month straight I'd have someone bring us food while we continue to make love only taking bathroom breaks. I'm not lying either.
She looks so cool here, hot and talented, really nice song too.
Madonna was crazy talented and we didn't care about that.
Owhh Really That's Great Thanks Additional Knowledge For Me ❤
It's impossible to overstate the significance and importance of this song and video, even today. It helped to define a generation and FORCED a sea of people to confront a topic that no one wanted to talk about. And she brilliantly wrapped it all up in an insanely catchy pop song. THIS is why she is an icon.

the outfit, the story, the controversy, the looks, her vocals, the beat, the choreography, everything about this video is the definition of *iconic*
edit: some of you are fighting over what this song means in my replies, y'all need to chill out and enjoy this good music 😂
What controversy?
A pro-abortion song in an era where abortion was seen as an uncontroversial medical procedure by the majority of the population.
_"But she keeps it, it is pro-natalist?"_
Nope. Negation/reverse psychology is being employed here. The song is all about how having a child is barely seen as an option today will destroy a woman's life.
Very very cleverly subversive song.
Bc she is iconic

@@forestdenizen6497 not 'pro-abortion' but rather 'pro-choice', in this take however the women decide to keep the baby
I still remember. This is the first Madonna video that I saw on MTV in 1984 at my cousin's house. I was a senior in high school at the time.
My God, she is drop dead gorgeous in this video!
Those eyes and those lips!!!
The song wasn’t recorded until 1986 … 🤔
I was on vacation to NYC in 1985 and we were driving around Manhattan on a rainy Saturday Night, and my Great Uncle who lived there was pointing out the buildings and who lived where, and he said Madonna lives here, we turn the corner and security guards were asking traffic to hold, and there she was, in her glory.
As a young heterosexual 16 year old male, seeing Madonna IRL, I was ready to eat the tail lights off of a dump truck. That is how incredibly beautiful Madonna truly is.
The rest I need not share. 😂

I always was impressed by that too! She & David Bowie somehow looked WILDLY different.....yet kept their iconic essence! I don't believe I could ever change my appearance like that & still look 'like me'.
On a side note, the actress Candace Cameron does that! When I looked up an older film of hers recently, I was startled how many images of her they had......& she looked different radically in every one! Yet looked like herself. Awe-inspiring!

You can say whatever you want about Madonna, she knew how to make pops songs that sold, and she really knew how to stay fit, as is evidenced in the video.
Be kind to her in her old age. At one point her songs broke stereotypes and made women feel independent and powerful . People don’t make the same kind of music now.
Madonna doesn’t get enough recognition for everything she achieved in pop music. This song should have a billion or more views.
Shes so talented especially looking in hindsight with what we settle for these days

The intro to Madonna's song "Papa Don't Preach" uses an excerpt from the classic song "Giovanni" by Italian composer Nino Rota. "Giovanni" is part of the soundtrack for the film "We Who We Loved So Much" ("C'eravamo tanto amati"), directed by Ettore Scola and released in 1974. The arrangement of this particular piece was used as the introduction to "Papa Don 't Preach" and added a dramatic atmosphere to Madonna's pop song.

Me too! I was 13 in 1986, would love to go back to that summer. If only we had a time machine.
When I was 16 shortly after finding out I was pregnant I stood in the backyard pondering life stressed about telling my family and this song came on my mp3 player. I start singing and dancing to it passionately, and as I start crying partway through the song it starts raining (in Arizona!). For some reason even though I felt so alone, I looked deep within myself and saw the strength to raise a child with all the love in my heart better than the mother I feared raised me. Now he's an almost 8 year old GENIUS and I couldn't be any more in love with him and his 2 siblings to whom he is the BEST big brother I have ever known. Thanks for the help, Madonna :)
You did the right thing and Madonna is awesome. Forever
You kept your baby. Hugs. Me too.
Wow cool story! :D But where were the father?
@@linastrindlund2830 lmfao u mean HER father ? 😂 bcz it's tragic
@@garysmith2479 o cara nunca me viu e só fala merda .nem me notificou .só pode ser um doido .
Madonna's brilliant in this video Papa Don't preach
for me the best song from Madonna
I simply love the 80s. The simplicity, great music, the tranquility and high emotions led by romanticism. What happened then?
The 80s was amazing, but the good music is better now.
Juan Carmina
No todays music is utter shit.
RebelThoughts82 It's not that today's music Is shit. The beginnings of music started In the 50's with Elvis up until the 80's. That's when music and that beat started. Everything that's been done with music has been done. You can only continue with music today as It once sounded.
I agree, I love listening to 80's radio stations. Somehow the 80's hits seem more nostalgic than much of today's music. Bangles, Foreigners, Duran Duran, Toto, to name a few examples
callum traynor The 90's where good to, but I prefer the 80's music. It amazes me at just how much Madonna can change her looks, clothing, Image. She's actually Italian/American. I believe her father was from Italy. She's always had that beautiful Italian look.
WE NEED ALL MADONNA'S VIDEOS HD
YES!!!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

@한우식 I have no idea what you meant by that!
Who doesn't love Madonna
This clip is a classic 1986s and The music too Very Good same Congrats Madonna for her work as a Singer and Queen Of Pop I Love You ❤
This woman's achievements in music and video set the standard for all who came after her...but she set the bar so damn high there is not a single person that can match her...and she came up the hard way.she worked her ass off!..and that is why she only needs one name..MADONNA!
I so so so so so so concur! I’ve always told myself this too about her. There is no words that can justify this woman’s achievements for the pop industry. She is so underrated!
Miss Jackson has earned her place in history. So has Whitney!
@@robyndismon394 I totally agree with you with Janet...but remember she already had the "family name" that is not to say she did not work her ass off cause she did and her videos are classic..but Miss Whitney is in a totally different class...forget about video...she was all about the "VOICE"...there was and still is NOBODY that can come close to the stellar beauty of that pure GOD GIVEN GIFT! Her voice can and does moves anyone who is fortunate enough to hear one of her songs...just listen to...All The Man I Need..so sad she's gone
@@tjmancini3385 So poignant and beautifully put, couldn't agree more.
@@robyndismon394 Janet Jackson could never ever hold a candle to Madonna.
Madonna's hits, sales, impact, tours numbers are a fact
Janet even went the Madonna way with The Velvet Rope clearly influenced by Madonna's Erotica
I just read Mr Danny Aiello who played Madonna's dad in this video, passed away, Rest in Peace Mr Aiello.
The best father I have ever seen in video, natural and simple. Thanks Danny for this perfomance, RIP.
@pasquale davino a
People really don't take Madonna's hits seriously anymore, i've been listening to hit after hit the last 2 days by her... She really carried the 80s..
Who would take her seriously 💀 have you seen what she does recently? She made a fool of herself
@@blooxylips yeah i've seen her last tour, it was good
@@blooxylipswhatever she does now doesn’t make her songs any worse…

Such a major step up from Like A Virgin. True Blue is an amazing album. I love you Madonna no matter what people think of you today. "True Blue, Baby Just Do You!"
This song makes me nostalgic of a time I wasnt even born in! Relatable lyrics, plastic-less actors and models, and divine music. Never in a 100 years will the 70s/80s be forgotten...
She was so classically beautiful here. Timeless video and song.
I think she looks like a lezbo in this video.
She was absolutely brilliant and is still there , there's nobody knocked her of the top she's been absolutely brilliant
What a beautiful song. The sound of the 80s and 90s is inexplicable. I don't see anyone currently making that sound. And I'm 21 years old.
