Thank you for remembering we beginners. I would have no idea how to properly use Inktense pencils without videos like this one. I cannot afford them on my budget right now, but maybe I will catch a break on a store's closing one day like you did.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment ! Id say the Niyoni watercolor pencils that i showed in a video are a great budget brand for watercolor pencils and are very nicely pigmented
Omg im so so happy to hear that !!! Yay !!! Now you will love her books !! Its all about figuring it out !! That happened to me with many books and styles of art, and still does , so i just leave it on my shelf till that Ah ha moment comes ! Thank you so much for leaving me a wonderful comment and happy coloring to you dear ! ❤
Hi Maia this was really excellent. This is so helpful and explains it perfectly. I can’t wait to try this now and see how it goes. I think it would make the page color up so much quicker and be much easier on my hands. Thank you so much. Now I can’t wait to see the basing with watercolor and adding shading on top with pencil. Great job and thanks so much. 😊
Hi Heather !!! Omg im soooooo happy to hear that the video was helpful to you ! Yay !! Yes its much easier on the hands !!! You can fill up a page super fast and then just go in and add details and extra shading with pencil on top !!! Enjoy your coloring hun ! Thanks for the wonderful comment
Fantastic! That was incredibly helpful. You explained and demonstrated it beautifully. I wondered why my watercolor pencil work always looks so blah. I'm amazed at how quickly you can color and get amazing results. I had heard of people using markers as a base, but basing this way provides a lot of built in highlighting and dimension right from the start. I can hardly wait to try it. Your work is absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing not only the finished pages, but your tips, techniques and tried and true materials!
Bingo !! You hit the nail on the head !! Basing this way gives far more dimension than basing with markers !! Although i do do that sometimes as well. Thank you so much for the kind words and im so so happy it was helpful! Comments like these keep me going ! Happy coloring to you dear !
Hey Maia great video! I have always gone from lightest to darkest color, but I love they way your pictures turn out. I’m gonna try it this weekend! Thanks!
Yay Casey !!! So happy to hear you liked the video !!! Yes i know some people like to work from light to dark !!! I dont know why but my brain always starts with the shade first lol !!! Happy coloring dear !!!
Hi jaya! Yay im so happy it was helpful and that you liked the video!! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment and let me know! Happy coloring to you
Hi Maia thank you for showing how u use those pencils I have the 100 set of inktense derwent graphtints and staedtler.. I like the the way you do the pencils
Great video. I also always go light into dark and I never use a water brush because I find it too wet so I use a damp paintbrush. Also the jnktense being ink is permanent while watercolour pencil can be worked more. 😊
Oh yes absolutely !!! Thanks for reminding us ! Yes that is true !! Ya i vary on where i start with activating but if i start in the dark i always use a rag to wipe off pigment. Happy coloring hun !!!
Great tips! Looking forward to your video on chosing colors! ;- ) Btw.I got Nyoni pencils some years ago and I like them too, but I had some breakage issues with few of them...
Oh really ? Thanks for the heads up !!! Thats good to know ! Im still in the phase of testing them out. Thanks for the comment and the feedback !! Its good to know !! Happy coloring to you hun !
Yhank you for tutorial. It really looks so easy when you do it. When you were doing those circles it seemed like watercolor pencils have smoother gradient than inktense. Was it coincidence or is it something that you can confirm? It is really difficult to judge from this video alone as the point wasnt to compare or achieve smooth gradient.
Hi hun !!! It probably was both coincidence and not , because inktense are far more pigmented so if you use a heavy hand like i probably did than the gradient wont be smooth, but you can absolutely achieve a smooth gradient with inktense if you take your time and are not too heavy handed. Do you know what i mean ? ?

Hi Maia, Is the cloth that you wipe the brush on wet or dry to clean the brush? Thanks for this video.
Hi hun ! Its just a dry rag so its ok if color gets on it, i dont like to slow down my coloring so i just wipe my wet pigmented brush on it
