    Thank you. It's soooo refreshing to see someone use & show the vast possibilities of a 12 set instead of the large sets. There's a reason why most Art companies sell a 12 watercolor paint set as standard. Great exercise in mixing!

    Kori, Love this video that you did on color mixing. I like how you keep it simple. I've seen other videos similar from other content creators and they are gear to someone who already knows color theory. This is a wonderful way to teach beginner colorist and artist like me. I am excited to take my new Rosa gallery watercolors and make my own mixing chart with them and talk about my experience of doing on my channel. I am finally recovered enough from covid to start creating content again.

      In glad you're feeling better! Mixing charts are great to see how colors act. If you know the pigment numbers write them down so you know what pigment made what color and out will help you learn so down the road you know oh if I mix those I get this

    The pastel colors you mixed are beautiful. Yesss, I vote for a video making pastel colors!! Mixing charts are daunting and I kind of prefer to watch people play around with mixing than have the chart be too structured. I have the 60 set of albrecht durers and that’s more than enough (but I’d love to try some other brands of watercolor pencils one day for comparisons sake, plus I have the same syndrome as you😂). It’s great to see the value of the 12 set and now I’m super happy im including it in my giveaway because even though it doesn’t look like much being a 12 set, you really can go a long way with it!

    It is so refreshing to see someone using watercolor pencils with finesse rather than like oversaturated crayons in a coloring book. Gives me hope I didn't waste $ on the sets I purchased and put aside after discovering how unpredictable (and often muddy) on-page color mixing is. I do have one question...What do you do if you want to do a large(ish) area in a mixed color? A flat palette isn't the best for holding large puddles of paint.

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  2 роки тому

      So if you are going to mix pencils and need a lot, there are a few ways. You can still mix on the palette and move it over to a normal mixing palette or just take a knife and shave off the lead into a palette.

    Fantastic video Kori, love it!!!! I don’t have full set syndrome, but I do have ‘I want to try those artist grade products’ syndrome, even though I color coloring pages! I was looking at a set of 36 AD, but was holding off buying them, since I don’t do that much watercoloring. One thing about the smaller sets of any colored pencil or watercolor pencil set is that they don’t have pink, purple, dark blue, dark red, and dark green, which obviously they can’t since it’s a smaller set. I could buy those colors open stock. I totally agree that having a small set of watercolor products, whether paint or watercolor pencils, is that they make a person learn how to mix colors. You’re video has given me food for thought. Thank you! EDIT Forgot to say that I’m looking forward to the CD Museum Aquarelle video. Can’t wait for that one!

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic

      @@ColorfullyOptimistic yep! I believe artist grade products are for everyone who wants to try them, and coloring is still creative and art. My problem now is I’m flip flopping since I want to buy the small set of CD Museum Aquarelle instead 😁.

      @@ColorfullyOptimistic I don’t know if you’ll see this, but do you think a white watercolor pencil is very helpful? I rarely use my white watercolor pencil or the white Inktense pencil to lighten colors. EDIT I hope my original post didn’t make it seem like I was disparaging those who color coloring pages with artist grade supplies, because that wasn’t how I meant the comment. 😲☺️

    Kori, thank you for doing these informative videos for us! I have a question for you. I am thinking of asking Santa for some watercolor pencils for Christmas. The pencils that I own that would compliment some of the watercolor sets are: Prismsmacolor Premier, Faber Castell Polychromos, Arteza and the Derwent Inktense (I have all these). Do you have a recommendation?

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  2 роки тому +1

      So the Albrecht Durer share names and colors with polychromos. I prefer them. They dissolve beautifully, very vibrant and affordable. Plus then you can use them with polys

    Kori, I love it that you've done this with the w/c pencils. As seen by a skip through the comments (and my own experience with students) - very much needed!!! I 'll take a look now to see if there's a similar Museum video! 😊 (Took a look. Answer to my question seems to be "Not yet"...)
    Questions.... Genuine questions, Kori, not a 'get at you' thing, but because I really would like to know, because I'm still learning, too. 😊
    At 31:55, you say that this system doesn't work with coloured pencils. I'm really puzzled why, because I've done exactly that with my coloured pencils (a mix of Derwent Coloursoft and {the awful!] Artist, Polychomos, and Luminance). I use a standard grid (in this case it's 30 x 30) and it works very well.
    Especially useful is that it shows what happens if you lay one over another and then do it again, laying the other over the first. (Eg yellow over blue / blue over yellow), which is what happens with the square grid. Also how seemingly the same colours from different sets (eg Coloursoft and Artist) & / or brands turn out.
    Also, please, why don't you like 'mud' colours? I find that they are really useful for all sorts of things, like shadows, bricks, earth, rocks... the list is probably endless...
    Thanks! 😊

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  Рік тому

      You can do it with colored pencils if you layer -- so I think maybe my words weren't clear.
      As for mud, I just meant you don't want to waste your pigment creating a brown unless you want to create a brown color intentionally :)

    • @MrsBarnabas
      @MrsBarnabas Рік тому

      @@ColorfullyOptimistic Thanks! Yes, effectively, the grid is layering, I guess. It just seemed as though you were saying that it wasn't worth doing the grid for it.
      I love messing about with colour, and look on grids as just a starting point to give the students (and me!), an idea of the potential of what we're using. Then we go on to play more 'freehand' (as with the mixes you did for the purples, etc.) and I love to sit back and watch their faces.... 😊

    Hi Kori. Such a great video. Thank you for sharing. Question for you. Which full set would you recommend for the water color pencils. Albrecht Durer or Derwent Inktense? (Tammy). 😊 Further into your video and I think I know what your answer will be.

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  2 роки тому +1

      Well inktense are ink, Albrecht Durer are watercolor. Inktense you can activate with colorless blenders and water, while Albrecht Durer need water. Inktense are more vibrant but that's because they're ink. It's really hard to compare the two because it depends on your art style. Albrecht Durer are more forgiving since they reactivate. Inktense are permanent once down.
