I totally understand your reasons. I’m from Germany myself and completely underestimated how car-dependent New Zealand is. You spend so much time in the car before you actually get to see something because everything is so far apart. Even if you live in the city, you can’t avoid constantly having to drive to get from one place to another. I miss how in Europe you can stroll through the streets and find cafés, restaurants, and shops everywhere. It’s fun just walking around and exploring. I also miss how bike-friendly it is, with the ability to get almost anywhere by bicycle.
So sorry Gabriel that your video's aren't doing as well while in NZ, I have really enjoyed them, looking forward to your next visit to the South Island!
I certainly understand your reasons for leaving. There's so much to see in NZ. I mean, I was there for 26 months exploring places most Kiwis haven't even seen, and there's still a ton of places I haven't been to. The best way to see the South Island AND minimize driving is to take advantage of the stunning multiday backpacking trips down there. They have an extensive hut system, so no tent is needed and the best month to do that is in May, after the peak season, when hut prices come down and dont need to be booked ahead of time. In two weeks you could do 3 multiday backpacking trips and maybe not even rent a car, if you fly in to Queenstown. As always, looking forward to your next adventures. Safe travels 🤙
@rajm2626 it was during covid. I arrived at the end of February 2020 with a regular 3 month tourist visa( I think it is called an ETA?) They locked down the borders 2 weeks later. The NZ govt kept extending our visa every six months. We even obtained a seasonal worker visa at one point when we were uncertain about another extension. We had planned to travel for a year so, we had a bit of savings to live off of and purchased an inexpensive van which I converted into a campervan. So we minimized out expenses and maximized our adventures.
The south island has a more mountainous topography and is much more interesting for many people. I think you should've went south after Auckland instead of north, might've got more out of this trip. Christchurch and Queenstown are great cities
He didn’t seem to really have enjoyed NZ, he missed out on the South Island everyone one was telling him that was the place to go, I knew that from when I was there
The treks on South Island go through unique rain forests that look like Jurassic with the giant tree ferns & amazing birds like the Kea parrot as well as kiwis
Thank You Gabriel 🙂💙👍I was Hoping to See a lot more of New Zealand on This Adventure but maybe next time when You go back it's a Shame it is so Expensive. 👍
Thank you for showing this part of New Zealand. It really does look like no place ever seen before! Usually, I look up extra information on the area you visited and I found some really interesting articles on North New Zealand. Good luck and happy adventures to the next place! I’m guessing Vietnam or Phillipines but that might be too far for 11 hours.
They don't need freeways as NZ is as big as California, but only has a population of 5 million, 2 million of whom live in the greater Auckland area. The South Island is bigger than the North Island and only has 1.3 million people. That makes the driving relaxed, enjoyable and gives more time to take in the incredible scenery. They are though gradually expanding the Auckland motorway (freeway) to the north and south. For safety reasons they should expand the motorway system on the North Island between major population centres as dual carriages with a median barrier are much safer. Too many kiwis are in hurry driving long distances and take risks overtaking on single carriage way roads. Wellington has a freeway system from the centre heading north until past the urban area. Christchurch has a north-south bypass freeway.
You need months for the south island to really experience it, just hiking which is also super cheap and can be done without driving at all (i did it like that). Waste to leave.
I would have been happy with more exploration of Aukland. Go to some more restaurants, some more bars. Maybe catch some some music shows. And then you wouldn't have to drive anywhere.
Don't blame you. The cost of daily car hire alone would cover all or most daily costs in Asia and you probably get more views. Always do the south island another time. Keep up the good work.
Gabriel as long time viewer almost ten years. I want to mention that any locations that are pricey your videos tend to follow the same vibe. You seem mostly uninterested and you don’t spend much so you end up mostly just walking around some metro areas talking. Which gets kinda boring tbh. I’m not complaining and you make plenty of great content. However I might suggest skipping these locations or picking one thing there and really splurging. Just my 2 cents.
I agree a little, i think the more expensive places would be best handled with some better research so show something spectacular than just wandering around, but you know, I still enjoy the videos.
Many thanks for all your videos Gabriel. I hope you don’t mind me sharing this but as some people have already commented, it would be great if you could share a more immersive experience in the countries you visit as well as staying longer. I was surprised you only spent a few days in French Polynesia. You could have stayed for at least a couple of weeks and visited some more remote islands. Have you ever considered releasing less videos but more content within each one? For example, one video could be a week long hiking trip on the South Island, another video could be the Mae Hong Son Loop in Thailand, another could be visiting remote islands in French polynesia and immersing yourself in the local culture. Over time you’d probably get a lot more views per video
I guess as a NZer I have been watching waiting for you to get south. So you haven't planned or researched well. Why are you doing the expensive tourist traps? I just don't think you put your thought into NZ tripping well enough. Did you think we were a tiny country? Not many people, but yes, lots of driving, or going by train. I live in Wellington and I have been watching out for you. A lot of what you say just seems like you are bored. Many South Islanders would be shocked that you seem to think Auckland and central North Island is seeing New Zealand!! Oh well, off you go.
NZ nature seems perfect to explore and spend copious amounts of time in with the person you love, i.e., your husband or wife. It also seems really fun to explore on your own as well, but I feel that you have to have a significant personal interest in the flora and fauna to have a good time exploring NZ. Other countries have lots of action, hustling and bustling cities, which attract many, but NZ just doesn't, so the only thing to do there is explore nature. I guess Gabriel didn't have much fun doing that. There is a lot to do in NZ, but it's mostly nature and agriculture-based. Ah well!
Yes NZ is expensive - try living here! You do need a car to get around. You could do it by bus but less freedom. Our roads are very windy and agree too narrow and can get lots of trucks which you get stuck behind until a overtaking lane comes along. Entrance prices are outrageous. Hi Gabriel, I think you're heading to Australia. You had a fun time the last time you were there. You're probably doing the Outback; it's cheaper and a way to connect with nature. Driving on the other side is, no doubt, awkward, and your dexterity is challenged and difficult to maintain. It looks tiring. These amusement parks are expensive and aren't the real reason we travel, even though there are things we would want to see that require an admission fee. Take care and take it easy, enjoy yourself.
@@UffeUlferts I'm guessing he's going to Australia he's only been there once and he said in his video that he's only been to this place only once so I'm guessing Australia...
Why don't you let your subs help you in advance before you go to a destination? When you came to Australia, your options were the most expensive due to poor or last-minute planning. This channel was the first I ever subbed to. By now, I know your style. But you could have saved heaps in some places with a little more forward planning. Just a thought. Love ya anywhere you go. Stay safe.
Everyone knows who has been to New Zealand the south Island is where it’s at with Milford sounds Queenstown just enable a couple things the majority of my time in the south Island and I can’t wait to go back
You choose what you do off course, but it seems that the majority of places you visit nowadays, you only "scratch the surface", jumping around from place to place and staying for just a couple of days. I am just talking about my own preference off course, but I would prefer for a more immerse experience with your videos and the places you visit, and not just the surface. I doesn't feel like you are adding much with this kind of content.
@@herculeaneffort2249I’m planning to take a break from this channel. To me he seems to have no respect for the climate jumping all over the world on flights. Selfish life. Cares more about video views ($). Hard to respect.
@ No. Fly to a place and see it. Instead he flys off with no regard for the CO2 emissions of taking multiple flights. Now he’ll fly back to NZ someday he says? It shows a lack of respect for the planet he wants to see and share. Comes off as arrogant and selfish. Hard to respect.
So many upset kiwis in the comments lol this guy doesnt owe any of us anything you should all be grateful hes sharing his journey with us. You do you mate, all the best.
Dude u need to get fishing & diving and doing the adventures these places offer. You are missing out on so much for you are bouncing around to much. I spent near a month just in the Bay of Islands fishing, diving, yaking & getting with the Maori's. The South island is the most epic spot on the entire planet.
Gabriel, what did you do in NZ that you must suddenly flee the country?😂 I love driving and long road trips. My wife, not so much. I told my mechanic that my car makes an irritating sound, usually after about 200 miles. He asked where the noise was coming from? I said, "The passenger seat." He said there's nothing he can do about it.😢
Gabe - New Zealand never seemed to resonate with you like some other destinations have so I’m not surprised you are leaving so soon. If you’re heading to the Philippines that is a wonderful choice.
Unfortunately, the places that were visited in NZ just weren't overly appealing to many of us, including Hobbitron or Comicon, or whatever that place was called.
Gabe, have you analyzed what type of videos have the highest viewer count ($ earned) and why? You are running a business after all, and when you retired it's good to hav some $ left! To travel is one thing, but also make a living out of it is another thing, why not get some sponsors and get more focused to get more content that will get you more subscribers and maybe some new interesting way to earn some dollars?
I think money may have something to do with not staying longer in some countries. From what I can see, New Zealand is very very expensive, as is Australia. Gabe said in one of the Hawaii videos that Hawaii is too expensive to travel and New Zealand doesn't seem that much cheaper. There are way more affordable countries like South Africa, Namibia, Indonesia and all countries in South America where he will be able to stay longer and explore more thoroughly. These quoted entrance fees that makes Iceland seem cheap by comparison, are insane and extortionate and has unfortunately put me off personally from visiting New Zealand in foreseeable future. I would much rather go to Indonesia or South Africa if going to the Southern Hemisphere for a fraction of the costs and I bet at least as interesting.
@@SamRoberts-ng3pu Indonesia is partially Southern Hemisphere as the equator runs through it. What really disturbs me, as a Swede and Scandinavian, is paying money to see...nature. To visit and hike for as many days as you want in the completely breathtaking Abisko and Sarek national parks in Sweden or go to Preikestolen or Trolltunga in Norway or see the geysers in Iceland costs exactly 0 dollars. Our philosophy is no one owns nature so that does not entitle anyone, not even the government, to charge entry or hiking or even climbing fees. To charge hundreds of dollars for this is insanity and very greedy. And also countries cheaper than New Zealand has lots of nature to see, thinking about South Africa in particular.
@@vaultkeeper2 Yes, my homeland of New Zealand is a rip off to visit. All the price gouging and money grabbing is depressing. I have lived abroad most of my life and when I went back on holiday I was shocked at it all. I agree nature should be free or at least reasonably priced to see. I agree with you 100%. So much obvious greed is horrible to see and experience and leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. New Zealand is totally overrated and certainly doesn't have a monopoly on nice scenery.
The problem is that Gabe has already visited every country he's genuinely interested in by now, so in every new place he goes to he ends up seeming a touch bored. Better to explore further afield in the countries you actually enjoy IMO.
@witlof5492 lol probably, but tbf his India trips are usually interesting because has a genuine interest in the culture / history. His Greece trips are basically just "a new island!", and you'd never guess that a somewhat important civilisation was once there...
The best hike you've taken (also the most difficult) was the one where you paid zero dollars. Since Canada and Mexico now have 25% tariffs, I wonder if NZ is next up.
Trump in 2014 on Fox News: “You know what solves it? When the economy crashes, when the economy goes to total hell and everything is a disaster. Then you’ll have, you know, you’ll have riots to go back to where we were when we were great”. So bleak times ahead for most of us (of course not for billionaires).
You should have at least gone to Wellington. Like go to a second major city in a country is good to have a feel for the country. Edit - although I can understand that it's expensive there, compared to a less developed country.
Bummer. Wish you'd explore the south island too. There's a lot more cool adventure stuff to down in the south island. I feel like all you did in NZ was drive around and pay for tourist traps.
You definitely appreciate places with vastly different cultures, so from that perspective, I see why you wouldn’t have the most fulfilling experience in New Zealand. Enjoy your videos as always.
@@RovexHD I agree, and I suspect the same could be said of many of Gabriel's subscribers. New Zealand was probably too much like home for many of them, hence the lack of interest. I know I saw a lot of similarities with parts of my native England in this series. I suspect the South Island might be different, but that was not to be on this trip.
Of course prices are Western prices. New Zealand is a 'Western " country. Imagine living there and earning typically, very low New Zealand wages with such high prices. About one third of the population are living below the bread line. I know, I'm a New Zealander who left many years ago. I'd never live there again. I don't think the South Island ( where I'm from ) is any better than the North.
you have to visit India again before it starts to get hot. I am sure your viewership will go up. you see in your frames new Zealand is pretty but boring. where as india in your frames has so much going on it makes it exciting to watch.
The last thing we all need is more India or Greece or Thailand or Mexico. He needs to sit down open a map of the world and try to figure out something interesting!
You have seemed very bored in New Zealand. Also, why do you keep stringing people along about your next video. You are not dealing with a bunch of children.😮😮😮
Hello. Great video. Was a rental car needed in New Zealand or does the country have public transportation for tourists that don't drive? Thank you, in advance
Public transport is very limited. There are buses in major urban areas and coaches between urban areas, but no good for the tourist sights in general. There is a passenger tourist train between Auckland and Wellington that takes 12 hours, but is quite scenic with several stops, for example for Waitomo Caves or the Tongariro National Park at the confusingly named National Park (town) and Ohakune. There's a car/passenger ferry between Wellington and Picton on the South Island. There is a passenger tourist train between Picton and Christchurch that takes 6 hours with stops at Blenheim (wine country) and Kikoura (whale watching). There is also a trans alpine train between Christchurch and Greymouth through the southern Alps. You could combine the trains with coaches to make your own itinerary on both islands with a bit of planning. There are of course organised coach tours with accommodation. Good for company. Car hire gives maximum flexibility, but can be more lonely.
@@Mongoose-ct6us I should also state Auckland and Wellington have metro train systems. In Wellington it is quite well developed for the geographical restrictions and Auckland's metro rail is about to get significantly better with a new central city line, most of it underground. Christchurch has a historic tourist city centre tram. The reality is that for the area of NZ the population is too small to support an extensive public transport infrastructure. The other reality is that long distance travel between major urban centres is not via rail or road, but by air. NZ has a dense air transport network out of the 3 main hubs of AKL, WLG and CHC, withy jets between hubs and turboprops between spokes, although it is pricey. But as Gabriel states driving every where is slow and tiring. Most tourists combine internal flights with car hire. Again, with research you can combine rail, sea, coach and air transport for a viable itinerary, with maybe the odd car hire. There are also many day tours with planes or helicopters that can take in many spectacular attractions and save time and travel, and with it money in land transport and accommodation. For example, you stay in Queestown, Wanaka or Tekapo and do tourist day flights to all major attractions more easily than driving, especially if time is a factor and money no objective. Helicopter and skiplane flights also open up mountain trip possibilities unavailable to those other than serious mountain hikers. It's a great country. Don't let Gabriel's fail put you off. Give it a go!
Best budget travel content creation destination in the world: Germany. You can travel through the entire country for an entire month for 58 euro with the unlimited public transportation pass: D Ticket. Through Booking you can rent apartments with a full kitchen everywhere for like 40-60 euro. Maybe that doesn't sound especially cheap but the catch is: German supermarkets are amazing and super cheap and with that kitchen you can eat for like 5-10 euro a day easily. National Parks, hiking trails and important cultural sites like the Aachen and Cologne Cathedrals and for example the world famous Wartburg castle are all completely free, you just walk in. So you literally have to spend nothing on activities and the public transportation network is so dense you dont need taxi's or rentals etc... Since they introduced the D Ticket its by far my favorite place to travel. Its such a huge country with so much variety in sights, history, landscapes... So if making money with interesting content is the goal,i cant recommend Germany enough. Im currently on a 4 week hiking trip there and i think the entire journey ends up costing me below 2000 in total while doing something interesting every day, moving around the entire southern part of the country.
Hmmm, a Russian helicopter in NZ?!!! Must give you credit Gabriel for being able to drive on the "wrong side" of the road. I was in England one, and let my English friend drive. No way I was gonna do it!
OK, I understand the reasons but in long term ... Won't you lose more money and unnecessary time (accompanied with jet-lag) to travel to such remote country as New Zealand once again instead of doing it once and for all this time, both major islands together, well prepared in advance? I think that you forget to see the big picture and costs that scratching the surface and returning to remote places can make (while number of views can rise in future, too, if descriptions of videos are done deliberately). No guarantee but I believe that the South Island videos could have more views. To be honest, you are mainly only scratching some countries that you are not familiar with and overdo some countries you have been like 12, 13 times. There is a reason why people are doing long tours of countries that are far away from them. Additionally, there are some very interesting and cheap destinations on the Southern Hemisphere you haven't visited yet like Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Chile, Argentina, Brazil. Nevertheless, enjoy your much cheaper next destination.
Western style counties are expensive these days, don't think it's a fair criticism really. Thought it wasn't too bad myself with the good exchange rate.
You could of had a much better experience doing the free things I was thinking that all along, your Rotorua experience you missed all the best stuff to do the tourist options, a local could have taken you to mind-blowing beautiful spots that cost nothing I was going to say something but left it out ... But someone should probably point it out
I completely understand, Gabriel. I was going to go to NZ in February, (I live in US), but decided it just doesn't have as much cultural diversity that I enjoy. Heading to Peru instead for the month. Safe travels!
Hello, How are you? I was analyzing your UA-cam channel. Your content quality is very good. But I noticed some problems in your channel. that's why you are not getting more views. Can we talk about this in detail?
Good if you aren’t wowed by NZ. In my opinion it is overrated by people who live there as a destination. Price gouging and cruddy infrastructure are two of its many issues. It is beautiful in parts but so is the rest of the world. It’s quite a tedious country to visit in general too -in my humble opinion of course.
I'm a New Zealander and agree with you 100%. I have lived away for decades and when I went back for a holiday I was pretty disgusted by all the money grabbing and price gouging. I think it's a dull place and certainly overrated.
You travel cause you enjoy the place and destination. I’m sure you don’t travel all the way to a destination just to scratch the surface. I understand that UA-cam is a business and your income but if you gonna let YT dictate your destinations. Is it really your style that you always put a priority and not follow your interests.
I totally understand your reasons. I’m from Germany myself and completely underestimated how car-dependent New Zealand is.
Totally agree. What about the rest of the areas?Shame
"Doesn't feel like you are adding much"- really dude? You could not be more wrong. I love his format of videos.
@@herculeaneffort2249I’m planning to take a break from this channel. To me he seems to have no respect for the climate jumping all over the world on flights. Selfish life. Cares more about video views ($). Hard to respect.
@@robertturner1308It's a travel channel and always has been. What do you expect him to do, swim around the world?
@ No. Fly to a place and see it. Instead he flys off with no regard for the CO2 emissions of taking multiple flights. Now he’ll fly back to NZ someday he says? It shows a lack of respect for the planet he wants to see and share. Comes off as arrogant and selfish. Hard to respect.
Nah, the jetboat doesn't go up the Huka Falls. I'd like to see it try though!
Me too! You ever see the old video of the guy who sledged or boogie boarded down Huka Falls? Gnarly stuff!
So many upset kiwis in the comments lol this guy doesnt owe any of us anything you should all be grateful hes sharing his journey with us. You do you mate, all the best.

Im thinking you are going to Tasmania.
3 hours between Tasmania and NZ 🙄
Tasmania is fantastic
Dude u need to get fishing & diving and doing the adventures these places offer. You are missing out on so much for you are bouncing around to much. I spent near a month just in the Bay of Islands fishing, diving, yaking & getting with the Maori's. The South island is the most epic spot on the entire planet.
Lol. I'm from the South Island and it is far from "epic". Dull and boring are two adjectives that spring to mind.
Agree, out on or under the waves is where NZ really shines.
He totally and utterly missed the point..... Spiritually inept
Gabriel, what did you do in NZ that you must suddenly flee the country?😂
I love driving and long road trips. My wife, not so much. I told my mechanic that my car makes an irritating sound, usually after about 200 miles. He asked where the noise was coming from? I said, "The passenger seat." He said there's nothing he can do about it.😢
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 good one 😂😂
My guess for next country is Sri Lanka as it's cheap and somewhere you have been before. Otherwise I would have guessed South Africa.
Upsetting news, but totally understandable!
It's wonderful news, I was tired of this place
@@UffeUlferts Hahaha ok, I'm happy for you :D
Nice, cant wait for the next adventure gabe. I'm going to take a guess and say its Japan lol
No, that's not cheap enough.
Indonesia isn't the southern hemisphere, but sure... It's a different culture.
NZ is an excellent country if you love nature though.
@ Steve
Where do you live now ?
Please don't be put off. Forward planning goes a long way in saving some dollars.
The problem is that Gabe has already visited every country he's genuinely interested in by now, so in every new place he goes to he ends up seeming a touch bored. Better to explore further afield in the countries you actually enjoy IMO.
In that case, it will be India, India and yet more India. Then, a little bit of Greece chucked in the mix.
@witlof5492 lol probably, but tbf his India trips are usually interesting because has a genuine interest in the culture / history. His Greece trips are basically just "a new island!", and you'd never guess that a somewhat important civilisation was once there...
Tired of driving...a lot of whining in this one Gabe. You`re extremely fortunate to be able to do stuff like this mate.
I don't think I have ever heard Gabriel, whine.
@@palukens Long time subscriber here and it`s simply not the same vibe as it used to be imo :(
@@fredrikgansmark9445I think you should move on to Mr Ben Bald
The best hike you've taken (also the most difficult) was the one where you paid zero dollars. Since Canada and Mexico now have 25% tariffs, I wonder if NZ is next up.
It'll be France 😂
Or Greenland since he's trying to acquire it

So bleak times ahead for most of us (of course not for billionaires).
You should have at least gone to Wellington. Like go to a second major city in a country is good to have a feel for the country. Edit - although I can understand that it's expensive there, compared to a less developed country.
Sounds like very boring content
Is it because you didn't get to see any Kiwi 🥝
Bummer. Wish you'd explore the south island too. There's a lot more cool adventure stuff to down in the south island. I feel like all you did in NZ was drive around and pay for tourist traps.
You should have gone to Wellington the capital city
Palau? Saipan? Philippine?
I don't think NZ is boring, I think it could have been better researched perhaps.
The last thing we all need is more India or Greece or Thailand or Mexico. He needs to sit down open a map of the world and try to figure out something interesting!

Are you going to the Philippines?
My advice change job.Stay at a same place.Exept if countries pay the influencer for more turists to come.
You have seemed very bored in New Zealand. Also, why do you keep stringing people along about your next video. You are not dealing with a bunch of children.😮😮😮
We all like surprises 🤭
I'm guessing the Philippines next? 😎 I'll be watching wherever!
Excellent guess, cheers. 🍺
So close and yet so far. Hopefully you’ll make it back one day. Good luck!

Hello. Great video. Was a rental car needed in New Zealand or does the country have public transportation for tourists that don't drive? Thank you, in advance
There are buses, so that's one way to do it. But having a car is definitely the better way to go, otherwise you're mostly just seeing the towns.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Thank you. Driving on the other side is something to get used to as an American.
@@grahamcook9289 Thanks for the information
Vietnam is next?
Didn't Germany pass a law against filming in public or something? I seem to recall hearing about that a few years ago 🤔
@JesseStLouis Eh no...
Germany isn't a safe country anymore, attacks from refugees in public places happening every day. 😢

Ah, Thailand is next. I think
Don’t blame him tbf, I honestly think that paint watches New Zealand dry 😂
Im sorry Gabriel that New Zeeland is expensive but amazing country 😊
I think my homeland is dull and boring. The scenery is ok , but New Zealand doesn't have a monopoly on nice scenery.
@ostevoostevo1592 you think it's boring... but I think it's extremely beautiful ❤️
Very boring, for many of us. Rajeep notwithstanding.

Good if you aren’t wowed by NZ. In my opinion it is overrated by people who live there as a destination.
Price gouging and cruddy infrastructure are two of its many
issues.

It's beautiful, very like Scotland x❤
Can't wait for the next adventure! I'm guessing you're heading to the Philippines or a different country around that area.
You travel cause you enjoy the place and destination. I’m sure you don’t travel all the way to a destination just to scratch the surface. I understand that UA-cam is a business and your income but if you gonna let YT dictate your destinations. Is it really your style that you always put a priority and not follow your interests.
