This video got me running again! There is a lot to take off and the vid showed all I needed to get job done. Mine was just plugged with ice. Once I freed up I flipped breaker with everything still opened up to make sure fans both running. Recommend doing this to ensure fan isn’t shot before reassembling all.
This video was helpful! I removed the two upper pull-out trays to the lower freezer section and noticed a large chunk of ice in the back external portion of the plastic freezer compartment. I would not trust myself in removing any parts or paneling to get gain access to where the fan is located. Then, I took a hairdryer and blew hot air onto the ice buildup until the chunk dropped off (careful not to apply excessive high heat onto the plastic back panel). I continued with the blower for about another 15-20 minutes and then plugged the Kenmore Elite refrigerator back in. It worked! The "er IF" message was gone, and the fan is working just fine. If condensation freeze build-up occurs again, I will likely use the hairblower an extended period of time ) to thoroughly dry the freezer compartment out) while attending to some project in the kitchen so as to keep an eye that over-heating or fire do not occur.
I preface this post with the fact that I am an electronics technician by trade and this repair might not be for everyone. I am not an appliance technician, but if you're handy enough and don't have a fear of the unknown, this may work for you. I fixed my own ER-IF code. It took some doing, but I pulled out the Ice Fan in the left rear corner, and there was a small ice block in it. Then, it would not run even after that, so I took the motor apart and lubed the little brass bushings in the motor and VOILA! Fan started turning again. This was on an LG refrigerator LFX25950sb. Hope this helps someone.
Like other commentators, We turned off our 'fridge and let it sit and defrost the fan for a couple of hours. We took out the bins and directed a small household fan into the back of the freezer unit. After the (unseen) ice melted out of the fan, and the freezer was dry we powered it up, the code cleared, and the fridge worked normally. You need to remember to dump the existing ice from the ice maker, and clean out the chute, or the melt water will leak.
Marci Elston I'm sure people are using this comment and not writing down here because they are just glad it's working again. So I just wanted to say thanks. This absolutely worked. I unplugged for 2-3 hours. Seems good so far
With this error code, I found the fan in the back of the freezer compartment was frozen. Turning the power off to the Refrigerator for a couple of hours fixed the problem. No parts need to be replaced - no server bills need to be paid.
This is an older model and does not apply to the new models that have the flatter fan motor. It is rare for the newer ones to have a bad motor. It is usually ice built up stopping the fan blade. The main pcb will start the motor and look for a feedback pulse from the motor. If it doesn't see it, it will stop, wait a few minutes and try again. If after several tries it still doesn't get the feedback pulse it will throw the error code. It will periodically try again and if gets the feedback pulse the error code will go away. Simply letting the refrigerator thaw out for a couple days will cure the problem. There is a new evaporator cover assembly available where they installed a heater around the ice fan blade the try to stop this problem. On the older models the ice fan would stop if you turn off the icemaker. That was a problem if you didn't take all the ice out of the bucket because it was no longer cold in the ice compartment and all the ice would melt all over the floor. In the newer models the ice fan runs even if the icemaker is turned off. Bottom line, DON'T go replacing motors and boards unless you are sure they are bad. Defrost it first and try it.
I have a Kenmore Elite and the evaporator fan in the freezer and also in the refrigerator section. Both not running and both sections are warm. I don't think both fans can go out at the same time. What could be the problem
Your symptoms point to a sealed system problem. Lack of refrigerant or a bad compressor may be to blame for the lack of cooling. A service technician typically needs to diagnose and repair sealed system problems in refrigerators.
How do you obtain error codes for a unit? I have one which is not showing any error codes, but is not getting cold. I hear the compressor running, and I see a small fan that blows across the external condenser heat exchanger coil running, but despite this, after 48 hours of running it remains at ambient air temperature without any signs of why or errors to indicate why. Must one press certain keys some way to obtain error messages?
Not all refrigerators display error codes. Some models only display error codes when you press certain keys to enter the diagnostic test mode. Let us know the model number of your refrigerator and we'll look up the technical information for your model to determine whether it displays error codes and how to display those error codes if possible.

Here’s a link for the ice fan: www.searspartsdirect.com/product/pp1c8rima2-0046-795/id-aba72913426 . You may not need to replace the control board in your model. @@wayneh3021 Thanks for posting that model number. The fix for the ER IF code on your model involved replacing the evaporator cover and fan assembly (Key 610C, part AEB73785605) with revised evaporator cover and fan assembly part AEB73785615. That old evaporator cover and fan assembly substitutes correctly to the revised part on our website. The new evaporator cover and fan assembly includes a heater that surrounds the ice room fan to keep frost from surrounding and blocking the ice room fan. The ice room fan and control board weren’t revised for your model. The original control board EBR73093601 does substitute to new control board EBR75234703 but the new control board is the same as the original control board. You indicate that only the refrigerator lights work at this time. There’s a chance that replacing the control board may fix the problem. We hope this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know and give us additional details about the failure.
+R0tten The Er IF code often appears when ice and frost builds up around the ice fan. The ice and frost is often caused by warm, moist air that enters the refrigerator and freezer compartment through the refrigerator and freezer doors when they’re open. Try not to hold the refrigerator or freezer door open for long periods because that allows frost to build up inside the cabinet and around the ice fan. Check for air leaks through the door gaskets and replace any damaged door gaskets. These steps will likely help you avoid the Er If code.
on the LG fridge there are two louvered fans that move cold air to the ice maker. I just jam a fan up against the top one, and run room temperature air into it for an hour (AC power off, refrigerator door open). The ice built up on the fan melts, and start to spin again. The darned fan ices up about once a year...poor design. It has NEVER needed a new fan or control board, just needs to get the ice off of it to let it spin again
Mine keeps doing this too. For some odd reason it will thaw itself out once in a while when I am too lazy to do it and it’ll just start working again all by itself. It usually freezes up once per month though. You are lucky yours only does it once per year.
So I have a 10 year old LG fridge like this one (bottom freezer and has an error code) freezer works but blows no cold air into the upper fridge part. I order the parts and just opened the back panel and the ice blower fan is not frozen at all but all the vent part is loaded with ice. What does this mean and how should I proceed?
Thanks for your question. First, try to restore refrigerator compartment cooling by unplugging the refrigerator’s outlet cord for a few hours, so the frost in the vent can melt. After the frost melts, restore power and see if the refrigerator cools normally. If it cools initially but the problem returns, check the door seals. Loose or damaged door seals can let moist air into the refrigerator. Replace the seal if it's loose or damaged If the refrigerator doesn’t cool after you defrost the vent, the evaporator fan might have failed. Other problems--such as a bad control board--can also prevent the refrigerator from cooling. Give us the model number of your LG refrigerator and more details about the cooling problem if you need more help.
Mine does this off and on. The Er1F code comes up, then ice melts all over the floor & water in door quits. After awhile it just starts up again without me defrosting and works perfectly. Problem is, it does it every 3-4 weeks. There is nothing wrong with door seals. Can’t find any reason its doing this other than it’s not defrosting every 4 hours like it says it’s supposed to do.
