That gun takes so many options of ammo , CORONER TO THE DETECTIVE: "it looks like the victim was shot by six different people, could be gang related"
🤣
😂
Underrated comment. Hahahahah
Dave Kemp not underrated hickock
😂
His point on “stopping” vs “killing” was spot on.
Yup. What your intentions at time and what you tell the law should always be in 'Stopping' the threat.
@@razonygood point a better one is don't talk to the law. Let the lawyer do the talking
Durable, easy to clean, versatile in terms of ammo. Definitely will find it’s place either as a surplus home defence weapon and as an option for wilderness. I may be wrong, but I do believe they took an old good revolver to the next level. Great video, thank you so much!
I argee, 410 with the defensive load is plenty strong but more importantly it could be a great wilderness gun for shooting snakes and you got the colt .45 for bigger theeats
@@Noadvantage246 and reloading 410 using black powder and cork for wadding is awesome. 25 grains of real black and half ounce of shot is pretty awesome in 410 full brass. NO on 777
@@pitchforkpeasant6219 You still have to put new primers in right?
@@Noadvantage246 oh yeah. If u can find em. I havent reloaded 410 in the plastic shells yet. I use the full brass shells which use large pistol primers. Cbc is the brand im using but there is a place in Wyoming that makes stronger cases but charge much more for em. Rmc is the brand
I'm concerned myself i just got one and purchased a bunch of 45 colt then later learned that most of that ammo is to powerful for this gun with the frame? I got some 335 grain 45 colt large animal rounds but I'm afraid to use them.
Probably the most versatile outdoorsman's sidearm available. I've had mine for 8-9 years and absolutely have nothing but praise for it. I live in Texas and use mine when I'm out hunting/fishing/hiking. I think of it as a 6 shot double action 45 LC revolver that also happens to shoot 45 ACP and .410. Depending on how you load it, it can handle rattlesnakes at bad breath distance or whitetail deer at 50 yards. For personal protection, I prefer the Federal buckshot which is effective out to 25 yards. For plinking/target shooting, 45 ACP is relatively cheap and accurate.
Ditto I’m in the Post Oak Savanna area and carry a Governor primarily for snakes. I love the #9 shot it does the job.
Did anyone else catch the irony? The "governor"and the "judge" shooting "federal" ammo.
Ken Rhodes
why not a president or king gun
john taylor The "Commander" in 10 gauge need a new .775 cal revolver bullet though
but it is not the president
john taylor Listen up the President is the "Commander and Chief" ok so is another name for him.
i know that but when i hear commander i think of the military not president
These revolvers present interesting options. Fairly versatile handguns. If someone was to own just 1 handgun, this would be worth serious consideration. Would make a really good hiker / camper gun.
I was always taught that in a self defense situation hopefully just the sight of the firearm does enough to deter threats and you don't have to ever even touch the trigger (ideally).
I have had my Governor for aprox. 5 years and found the Federal OOO buck shot load gives a great 5 to 6 inch pattern at 15 yards . Also the 45 ACP and 45 Colt all print a good group with no fliers. If you have a Governor try the triple ott loading.
I love my Smith & Wesson Governor. Expensive, yes. Worth every penny. I smile every time I squeeze the trigger. Bitch finding a holster for it, had to have mine custom made. I carry mine mixed 6, have everything covered from snake to bear and one cylinder. And I carry speed loaders for the colt, and I have recently found out that you can get speed loaders for the 410.
Just so you can point it at every minority you meet, disgusting.
I had mine custom made too, it was cool to watch the leather guy steam up and form the leather around the gun and then use beautiful brass rivets to put it together. Very cool to hang out with saddle makers/ leather craftsman.
"I believe that would ruin someone's day"
Very well said, that .410 can be really damn powerful
Probably the only Governor worth voting for :p
LoL Absolutely!!
THANK YOU!

I'm glad you like the joke, I thought it had already gotten pretty old by now. Hey, maybe S&W should use it as their advertising campaign :)
Lol! I would call vote for the "Governor".

I always enjoy your videos. As a concealed carry instructor I encounter a lot of "new shooters" that have no experience with guns, or what to buy. I refer them to your videos for some straight forward common sense evaluations of most of the common handguns. That way they have an idea of what they might want to look at when they go shopping. Please keep them coming. Information and entertainment, such a great combination.
This darn Governor is one of the best handguns I ever shot on the range when wandering about in America. It is just WOW. What a booom! A real hand cannon!
I remember when this video dropped, I fell in love with this pistol within seconds even before I knew the calibers that you can chamber. it's so perfect
Still one of my favorite videos. I bought a Governor and carry it at the stables in coyote season when they are getting too close at night. Between rats near grain bins and night time feeding it works well. I use the 45 and 45 acp in range work just for the fun of it and back it up with a Bond Derringer for range work. It is a fun gun.
I have always loved Hickok's dry and witty humor haha.
It’s fantastic his humor cracks me up
I want to give a big thumbs up to the camera operator on your videos, he does a great job anticipating the action and going to where the viewers want to be. Great content.
Father and son work well together when it comes to that I think John is behind the camera not sure but that's what I always thought
@@charlesblake7802 Yeah, it normally is John who is behind the camera.
Just bought the Governor, outstanding videos on this weapon, really liked the one on the judge with different defense ammo, really helped me make my choice on which one to use, I'm a Desert Storm Veteran and wanted something to ride in my truck and home defense, I believe I made an excellent choice in weapons
I concur :D
Dave Holub Sr - Thank you for serving. I worked on the Whisky Cobra Hellfire system during Desert Storm.
Just picked the Governor up a week ago, and I already love this gun. Great range and home protection firearm. This review convinced me more to get it of course lol.

With the Governor I like the versatility of 3 different rounds, and 6th shot. Add the light weight frame and it's even better.
I like the feel of it and it felt much lighter and easier to hold for an extended period of time. Because we know the cops may take a while to arrive and I have to keep it aimed at the badguy
I have one of those next to my bed when i go to sleep loaded with .410 personal defense loads, I’m confident that if i point it at an intruder and pull the trigger that my immediate problem will be solved

As a S&W Governor owner, I highly recommend Winchester PDX1 2.5" .410 defender ammo, it has 3 plates and bbs, and the plastic casing doesn't expand when heated from shooting and getting stuck like alot of .410 shells I've tried in it.
Gun laws in the UK prevent us from owning anything like that. Heck we need licenses just to own air rifles here in N.Ireland!
When I was in England my friends father owned a field and several air rifles. We would often go out to this field and set up targets (coke cans etc) and see who could do the longest shot. Was always fun times. And when his father brought a few laser sights and red dot sights for his air rifles things just got so much better.
Those were fun times.
John Ross And look where it got you. School shootings and a President who doesn't have a clue as to what he's doing ua-cam.com/video/nCnKtzQpCSs/v-deo.html
GG.
Bit late here but it's not much better in the republic as is.
You can't own a handgun that's either a larger calibre than a .22, or higher capacity than 5.
Meaning I couldn't legally own a detective special but I could own a 500 S&W Magnum.
well all I can say about your handgun laws in the UK, you guys let it happen. You think you'd learn from King George just sayin
Sounds like they clipped your nuts off
Stupid revolution then amendments
I live 25 minutes away from Worcester Ma , you did a good job pronouncing it . Love your videos and a customer of The Gun Parlor as well .
Y'all sold me, I love versatility.
Perfect pronunciation of "Worcester", great job and video. Thanks for keeping us educated and entertained
If you like these .410 revolvers you might want to look at the Circuit Judge. It has a long barrel and full stock with the same action as the Judge revolver. It is a nice mix of old styling with a modern revolver. I think you may enjoy that one.
One of my favorite videos! Thanks for posting.
Hickok, I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot, but best of all - you are a real gas! I can't watch one of your videos without getting a real good grin going. Thanks for all you do.
That's all I need if someone comes into my home…..I'm going to ruin their day….I looked at the Judge, and the S&W Governor….The S&W won…I'm a 58 year old woman and the Governor fit me perfect and it has a great laser light…Thank You baby!
You picked the better of the two!
@@sonorangaming449nah, judge is better.
you can disagree all you want with the 410 being used in a self defense purpose, but as a nightstand gun keeping that first shot as a 410 for the time you just wake up and theres a threat is pretty good. first shot 410 the next 4 sending out 4 hollow point 45 colt.
+FlagFlyingHigh3 what about the last shot?

An AngrryWalrus the spread and over penetration, low stopping power, over pricing. There's alot to hate about this gun.

I like what you said about the true purpose of "self defense," Hickok. It isn't about KILLING someone, it's about STOPPING someone, and with #6 shot, this sucker puts out an approximately 4' pattern at 15 yards. Even Stevie Wonder could hit something with this:)
killing = how you end up in court for overuse of force and end up in prison yourself. Unless someone was going to commit armed robbery, assault or rape, killing them will only make it worse for you. Don't be naive and read up on some laws of your state (some are harsher than others).
No New Years Day
tiffsaver #6 shot (I assume you’re talking #6 birdshot) isn’t going to do much to stop a determined attacker. Wouldn’t go smaller than #4 Buckshot for personal defense.
I've owned both the judge and governor.
The judge "el juez" edition, I really loved it and kept it for apt defense...up until the cylinder fell out totally disabling the gun. My gunsmith fixed it for 7 bucks but said the cylinder was too heavy for the yoke springs and it could damn well happen again. Unacceptable.
Had my sw governor since 2018, run tons of 410, 45 colt, and 45 acp (mostly this). Shocked by accuracy with the 45 acp. 410 fed handgun for self defense under 10 yards vs 2 legged bad guys.
45 lc hardcast wadcutters for bigger 4 legged threats, Buffalo bore standard pressure.
45acp for plinking, and carry a few moon clips for fast reloads.
That's versatility. Stay armed, my friends!
Short Lane makes stainless steel inserts that chamber a cartridge and run rifling out to the end of the insert. The Governor cylinder holds the inserts. The calibers available are: 22, S, L, LR in one and 327 Federal magnum and all 32 caliber cartridges shorter. 38 Special and one in 9mm and 380 Auto. Adds versatility to the Governor platform.
your reviews are always the best. thanks for what you do
Each single pull of the trigger is like 4 shots from a snubnose 38
I am from New England! You nailed Worcester !! Good job
This would be great for home defense.
I looked up the ballistics for that Federal .410 handgun defense ammunition. It states that 000 buck is .36 inches in diameter and each shot weighs about 72 grains. Each shell has four copper-plated pellets and they have a muzzle velocity of 1200 feet per second. That is a pretty powerful load. If you hit someone with those four shots of buckshot in the head or torso, that person is not going to be moving much longer.
Are all the f****** devil
Wont be travelling nearly that fast out of a hand gun.
@@anthonyagnew3811doesn’t have to nor would you want it too
Hahaha. You know the lead is going to fly when you start out with you earplugs in lol. Love it!
Very interesting gun. Might like to get one later to add to my collection. Thanks for showing and demonstrating.
i got a judge for rattlesnakes in South Texas... carry it in the field at the ranch. I used to have a .357 shooting rat shot, but saw the pattern on a rattlesnake with my wife and toddler. After 3 shots (hits) to stop it... (and i saw pattern in mud), i KNEW i needed a shotgun. Got the Judge, and 1 shot... 1 kill. (on many rattlesnakes)
.
Just ordered a Governor... for the extra shot... but more importantly, to add .45 ACP to the mix (WAY cheaper than .45 LC)
Thanks Hickok! Love your channel!

I gotta tell you, I like your gun videos better than ANYONE ELSE on the Internet, for several reasons. First, your lifetime of experience. You've thoroughly shot and tested virtually everything with a barrel in existence, and that's a real "plus." Second, your reviews are very balanced, you never get radical in any direction, but present your case evenly and fairly. And third, your attitude is very friendly, easy going, and fun to watch. Best of all, you're a Baby Boomer, and we BB's have to stick together!! God bless, and all the best to you this holiday season.
This video is very informative and made me even more sure on buying this weapon thanks for the detailed description
Nice Hickok. I have a Judge and a buddy of mine has the governor. They are a blast to shoot and work great as a close quarter defense weapon. thanks and enjoy.

Having a six round capacity, being able to use speed-loaders and moon clips, and being able to shoot .45 acp put the Governor way up there. I bought a Judge for $400 when they first came out. It was a steal at the time. Now that the governor is out there, I’d be lucky to get $300 for it. I’m keeping it because right now, it’s not even worth selling.

I think firearms that fire multiple rounds are great for times like these where there’s a shortage in everything.
Hey, wicked good pronunciation of Worcester, wustah! That just made my day!
That's how it's pronounced
I've watched a lot of your videos, always informative and entertaining.... I have to say, you really seemed to enjoy shooting this firearm.
I made my own moon clips for my Judge. I used stainless steel strips. They work perfect.
I really wonder sometimes, who gives Hickok's videos "thumbs down". Communists?
Thanks for the great video...I have fired many different brands of .410 and for me the Federal 000 is the clear choice. The hull in that shell holds a tighter pattern at 12 yards than the others. PDX is powerful but the BB`s tend to be "flyers. Th .410 to me has more recoil than both versions of .45 and the trigger guard will bite your middle finger if you don`t maintain a strong grip. On the negative side I will be returning mine to Smith on account of internal lock problems that flare up. When this happens neither the trigger or hammer will move. That situation is not acceptable at any time. Hickok you are the best gun reviewer on the net, the only thing I would add would be a clear ballistics gelatin block with some denim. Hope you keep doing what you do!
actually 4 different calibers. S&W states .45 GAP is safe as well. Dying round though. GAP stands for Glock Action Pistol for anyone wondering.
The .410 round with some #1 buck seems like a great personal defense pistol

I dont understand the hate for the 410
The only thing *I* hate about it is the price per shot lol
I think the hate is after 10ish yards it probably wouldn't be lethal anymore. I think if you have an apartment or small home this would be great for close range tho
@@FUW-guy You don't have to load it full of 410 though. 45 will do the job at 40 yards, and that's a big house.

I like the idea of a handgun that can shoot shot shells. The reason why is because most people that will need self protection are not expert shooters of handguns. The shot shell allows them to hit their target even if they are poor shots. They could also include a couple of .45 cal. rounds for the persistent intruder that has been wounded.
It is just too easy to miss with a single projectile. A .45 cal . round might stop an intruder as your first round , but only if you are able to hit the intruder with that first shot.
Back in the mid-80s, I went hiking around with a friend in the hills outside of San Jose, CA. and we ran across a rattlesnake under a prickly bush. I was about to walk around the angry snake but my friend produced a stainless Remington Derringer chambered with two .410 shotshells loaded with birdshot. BLAM! Dead snake. That Derringer clone worked great as a snake gun. I went and bought my own in the early '90s by American Derringer Corp from Waco, TX. Cheap 2-shot pocket pistol. Very stiff hammer, stiff to break open. The Bond versions pop open and are much larger, but much more expensive. I was amazed that the recoil of firing .45 Colt or .410 shotgun with such a tiny gun was not extreme.
