I LOOOVE how well you understand these characters. Both with Ian and with Roger.
Ian is hands down one of my favorite characters. He blossomed from this adorable little kid to an outright crush material for me. It was just so sad yet fitting to leave him with the Mohawk, and I loved seeing you go through that.
And Roger just gets a lot of heat, but I actually really identify with him in the sense that... I take time to process sh-stuff! And that's not a bad thing for Roger, and it made me happy you saw that right away. You nailed his pattern and never doubted he'd be back.
    See you next season!

In the book, Roger did exactly as you said, he went to the stones and contemplated his future, which ultimately led him back to Brianna and his son.

What a good parallel to what Claire went through in book one when deciding to go with Jamie or back to Frank. (Just finished reading that book.)

@@alexachipman How'd you like the book?! It's my favorite series.

I love this episode and the exploration of the what if scenario “if you went back in time and warned them (any older culture, for me i would have liked to go back and warn the Arawak) it would change the future” since it was a single man that made it to this time it’s hard/impossible to convince a nation to change their whole way of thinking of what the future would bring. If perhaps they had brought proof (like Claire’s photos) maybe things would have changed. But like in Lost, what happened, happened. It’s an interesting thought experiment tho. Which makes me wonder if all the people Claire had saved were meant to be saved by her, since she was going to go back anyways (via old newspaper). It’s a crazy time loop.

I wonder if going back with maybe a video to show them would help, or would that just be too futuristic. Definitely some photos and books on the subject might have helped.

Originally the producers were planning to end the season with Brianna rushing out onto the porch and realizing Roger wasn't with Jamie and Claire. Thank goodness they realized it was going to be a very long Droughtlander and they couldn't do that to the fans.
And I completely agree with you about Roger. Some fans have been very unfair to him.

We used to play Lacrosse at school in England in the 80s and 90s It could get quite violent when you had to tackle and you often used to end up with bleeding knuckles!

Jamie being angry at Roger is one of the rare times I consider him to be in the wrong. If Roger had "run away" he wouldn't have shown up on Frasier's Ridge a couple episodes ago, and he wouldn't have done so at the end of this episode, either. Roger needed time to process. Jamie screwed up by giving Roger over to the Mohawks (which created the situation of Young Ian being one of them) and that is why Jamie is really upset and yelling at Roger about the outcome. Its a fault that Jamie has had since book/season one and this time the consequences backfired on him, despite Young Ian wanting it.

Agreed, I was not happy with Jamie’s reaction here. Roger was being totally reasonable asking for some processing time to think it over.

Yeah, I completely agree. People seem to be very angry at Roger for not making that snap decision. But I totally get taking the time to process. It's not a crime to think about things. That's why I like Roger so much he feels very much like an average guy (Which I can appreciate) which is very different from the stoic and brazen Jamie. I think people spend so much time with Jaime and have come to understand him that when someone that isn't him makes decisions they are far more willing to criticize those decisions. I feel that at times Jaime is just too "Perfect" and that can really hurt other male characters in the series (like Roger). Season five is my second favorite season, can't wait to see your reactions!

I agree - Roger seems much more relatable. Most people need time to process big revelations like that!

Late to the party but one thing that has always confused me is the whole Brianna/John engagement. Aunt Jocasta said that nobody cares if she's pregnant outside of wedlock, so long as the child is born after she's married. So I thought she was going to push back the wedding as long as possible but if she was nearing birth and Roger wasn't back, she would have to marry John so her child wouldn't be born out of wedlock. But then they never married. So now, isn't her son always going to be known as being illegitimate, which would have been a huge deal back then? She used to be really concerned about that and now she's not, and we didn't really see her decision-making process.

"he is just one of thos people who needs a little bit of time to come to a decision" ok, can you yell it in the back for the Roger haters? thank you.
which is completely normal, tbh. same, roger. same

Otter Tooth ( can't remember his 20th C. name) and his companions needed to go back further in time to have any real effect on their ancestors. Maybe they should have tried Geilis's method. Not really.

Another thing about the indigenous people's lacrosse games that I would like to mention. The Haudenosaunee would make their people play a game of it if a group or a few people we're fighting or having a really bad argument LOL

Re: Struggling with big life decisions. Yeah, been there. Sadly, it took the loss of my friend to really light a fire under my a$$. Well, it took Luke Skywalker seeing Owen & Beru turned into barbecue to give him a nudge, so I guess I should be glad it wasn't THAT dramatic.

Poor Uncle Owen! It is already more difficult watching that after seeing him more in Kenobi.

I saw season one; it was intriguing, but ultimately I didn’t like the books, and that translated to the screen because it is such a good adaptation. I would imagine that book fans would love it, though.

just re watched your reactions to season four episodes 1-8 and watched your reactions to episodes 9-13 for the first time. my favorite part this season is Brianne finally meeting Jamie. my least favorite parts are seeing how the slaves were treated. I hate slavery and racism and Brianne being raped. no one should ever after have to go through that. i really hate Bonnet and real life people like him.

Agreed, so far 4 is the season I am least likely to rewatch because of that.

I don't think I agree with ottertooths nationalistic rants. He would have been advised if he studied better ways of peace, not to not only slaughter armed men but woman and children. Its the same thing just the other side does it this time
