I've been listening to Bruce Cockburn since the mid to late seventies! He's an underappreciated mega talent! awesome singer-songwriter, great music, and intelligent lyrics...
im 22 years old and have listening to bruce cockburn since i was a young kid, i discovered him through my fathers record collection, and i have to say, i agree, he is a phenomenal songwriter!!
This song reminds me of a couple of my old neighbourhoods. Never knew when a gunshot would wake you up or when a stray bullet would fly through your balcony door....dayum...
I was there in Regina that day. I loved it when Bruce reluctantly allowed a break so people could 'go and get drunk in the bar'! I was stuck behind the Carenport crowd who were let out for an evening. Otherwise it was Brilliant!
Saw him 2 days ago on Friday live with just him and his guitar, amazed at how he managed to do 2 sets without any band and did so many amazing songs on just a guitar. Superb!
all of Neil Young (74), Joni Mitchell (76) and Cockburn(74) were all in that apartment in Toronto. Jamming, writtings tunes, ect. Bruce was the only of the 3 that did not cross ths border.
I remember in grade 5 my teacher would play this on the guitar and we'd all sing along. I always catch myself singin' it but never thought to go searchin for it until today lol.
I love a song that tells a story. I have a problem however. I love singing this song. When I do I never take a breath at the right spot. You can hear him take a breath at about 0:48 seconds and no chance again until ~1:05. Not good enough. If I'm ever found dead or somehow oxygen deprived check my playlist.
"Peggy's Kitchen Wall" has always been my absolute favorite Bruce Cockburn song; I think it was the first song of his that I ever heard (my family has the WAITING FOR A MIRACLE album too, and this is Track One on Side Four). This should have been a hit. Some days I wish somebody would cover it. Some days I think that - if I had a better voice, and if I could get my old band back together - I should cover it. But I probably shouldn't. I'd probably only ruin it. It's probably a perfect song already, the way Bruce Cockburn does it. Except I've always wanted to know - who was Peggy? And come to think of it, who DID put that bullet hole in Peggy's kitchen wall? Because Bruce never tells us, does he?
Literally him and my auntie peggy were standing in her kitchen and a bullet came right through her wall from the back alleyway and we never found out who it was. That’s the whole story 😂

and to think The Bare Naked Ladies had no idea who he was before they performed a cover for his tribute album is sincerely unforgivable.

are you related to Doug and Judy Biggar?
I dated the sister of the "Peggy" in this song. What a woman. Miss her so much.

This is always one of my favorite songs. I've seen Bruce many times. He is the best!
they’re drinkin’ Gin and jokin’, laughter falling down like rain...dude paints a scene with words like no other
Of small town police corruption😉
I had forgotten how pleasant BC's voice was.
Watched Bruce, Centre of the Arts, Regina, Saskatchewan. Alone no band. I was 15. unfrickenreal. Thanks to Denis. Even chased a coyote on way home.
Wow! That sounds great! I saw Bruce Cockburn live in Nanaimo, B.C, a few years ago (with band). He's still great.

Discovering Bruce Cockburn (in the mid 90's from a bunch of my roomie's old vinyl) was up there with discovering Neil Young and Dylan.

Everything he does is stellar! I've been in love since the wee 80's.
I listen to this tape on my old Casio walkman the whole "summer of 88" in Yellowstone working at the hotel making up rooms!
+Robert Zigmont i cruised out to Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico, down to Santa Fe,,all over doing the same thing. good memories.
Mine was cruising the back roads between El Paso and Cruces

There's something a wee bit warped about a group of 11 year olds singing a call and answer about small town police corruption lol.
What an awesome teacher you had!
Are you sure it wasn't "Wonder where the lions are?"
"Blaster on the back porch, shaking up the lane;
Drinking gin and joking, laughter falling down like rain" I love that line
Blaster? I always heard it as plaster. Thanks.

Weird comment award...
No probs. Take a deep breath. And trail off. Timing that's all.
It's called 'Circular Breathing' - not easy but....

Mine too!
Peggy's Kitchen used to be a tv show on CBC back in the 70s, maritime cooking and music.

Loooove this song!!
Love Bruce. Since Tokyo song. I think it was 70s
Classic Canadian whodunnit song.
Peggy was actually living in Ayr, Scotland where Bruce was staying with her.
you just have to smile
The 300th thumbs up click was me -- that's right. I am 300! THIS IS SPARTA!!!
Agreed, Bruce is a great songwriter. It would've been so cool if he ever got together with Lennon and Mccartney.
He's so much better on his own plus his skills and artistry by far surpass those two...
@@Selkie7 well McCartney maybe, but John Lennon...? No.
If I had a Drone launcher*
who done it ?
Just to write a song or two, not as a group. The Universe would likely implode from the awesomeness.
Oh no, not again, those days, are over right?
Nope.
I work with Peggy..lol😁
Smh
