Bruce has enhanced so much the soundtrack of my own life. Wondering Where the Lions Are was the first song I heard and then sought out everything I could find. Every concert I've been to (many of them) Bruce has always impressed me as such a gracious and generous soul. Thank you Bruce. Ahhh......After the Rain and it goes on and on and on and on the beauty of his work.

I remember siting 5 feet away from Bruce in The Riverboat in Toronto during the late 60's ... early 70's. This piano player continues to be inspired by Bruce's lovely playing and songwriting. "Feet Fall On The Road", "High Winds, White Skies" and so many (many) more! Thanks for the years of beauty and brilliance.

Did you read that yourself? On What specific date was the interview? Or are you just passing on a false claim? The same fake claim about Jimmi Hendrix getting asked the exact same question, and Hendrix also responding 'Why don't you go ask Phil Keaggy"? At least there is a keaggy interview on You Tube in which he denies knowing anything about it, and laughed it off as being just a rumor. When there are no specific facts to support the claim, even referencing a source does not make it true.

By the time I was introduced to Cockburn's songs back in the 1970's, I was already into 1950's to 1970's Surf, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, and Country. I was influenced by Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Jose Feliciano, Nat King Cole, The Beatles, Ventures, Presley, etc. I like some of Cockburn's songs, but have been more impressed by Keaggy, Bannister, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Kerry Livgren, Dan Peek, and many others who had the courage to cross the line from the downspiral of addiction to become positive examples to their fans.

Why is it that when I look up the lyrics of Night Train it’s credited to James Henry Boxley and Carlton Ridenhour (aka Chuck D) Bruce just said he wrote it. I always thought it was strange. Discogs credits all lyrics to Cockburn. There is also song by Guns and Roses, But it’s a different song.

      From cockburnproject.net:
Not a knife throw from here you can hear the night train passing
That's the sound somebody makes when they're getting away
Leaving next week's hanging jury far behind them
Prisoner only of the choices they've made
      Night train
Ice cube in a dark drink shines like starlight
The moon is floating somewhere out at sea
I'm an island in the blur of noise and color
Alcatraz, St. Helena, Patmos and the Chateau D'If
      Night train
And everyone's an island edged with sand
A temporary refuge where somebody else can stand
Till the sea that binds us like the forced tide of a blood oath
Will wear it down - dissolve it - recombine it
Anyone can die here they do it every day
It doesn't take much effort tho it goes against the grain
And the ultimate forgetfulness of violence
Sweeps the landscape like a headlight of a train
      Night train
Ice cube in a dark drink shines like star light
Starlight shines like glass shards in dark hair
And the mind's eye tumbles out along the steel track
Fixing every shadow with its stare
      Night train
      Night train
And in the absence of a vision there are nightmares
And in the absence of compassion there is cancer
Whose banner waves over palaces and mean streets
And the rhythm of the night train is a mantra

farleydog 69 Awhile ago I looked up the lyrics and on two different sites says He didn’t write the lyrics. I don’t own the CD and discogs says he is author of all the songs on the album. So it’s probably wrong, but I’m trying to find how it could of been confused. I always found the lyrics very interesting.

@@jamesc4812 I i don don't know what to say. I'm gobsmacked. I'm moved by the simple fact of your reply. You are an inspiration to me. I'm 70 and I'm a better guitar player because I learned pacing the cage and night train. I worked on night train just from a chord chart in standard tuning and knew I was missing something and was proud of my ear when I realized you tuned that G down to F# adding another 3rd to the chord to get that drone sound. Your choices of chord voicings make me swoon with delight and I regard you as a lyricist right up next to Paul Simon. The opening line of "pacing the cage" is the greatest sunset image and the line in "night train" "ice cube in a dark drink shines like starlight, starlight shines like glass shards in dark hair" blew me away and it feels great the way it tumbles off the tongue. I've used your music to make points as well. I sang "a dream-like mine" at an Obama rally and I have played "if I had a rocket launcher" on jukeboxes to get people to think about what it's like to be on the receiving end of a helicopter gunship attack and I don't know if I ever heard a more emotionally provocative more passionate song period exclamation point. I not only love your art I respect you personally for how you have used your art. You have done good works. we are grateful that you have done the hard work to develop your art and your craft. most of us are aware but it's not as simple as sitting around waiting for inspiration to come. We know it is work World beach sounds Thank you for your kind reply.

Forty years in the wilderness getting to know the beast
Projected and reflected on the greatest and the least
Forty years of days and nights -- angels hovering near
Kept me moving forward though the way was far from clear
    And they said
    Take up your load
    Run south to the road
    Turn to the setting sun
    Sun going down
    Got to cover some ground
    Before everything comes undone
    Comes undone
Forty years in the wilderness dancing with the flies
Dazzled by the visions rolling out before my eyes
    Angel-made graffiti, demons in disguise
You could trade away your birthright for another day's supplies
    Or you could
    Take up your load
    Run south to the road
    Turn to the setting sun
    Sun going down
    Got to cover some ground
    Before everything comes undone
    Comes undone
Rising with the height of land, falling with the crowd
Spirits in the scouring wind called my name out loud
Said you could go to heaven, you could go to hell
You could hang out in between in the place you know so well
    Or you could
    Take up your load
    Run south to the road
    Turn to the setting sun
    Sun going down
    Got to cover some ground
    Before everything comes undone
    Comes undone

Boring interview. But the last song Bardo Rush redeemed it. That song is stellar.

My all time favorite artist since the mid 70's. Such a shame however to hear his singing voice here. Either it is terrible production or his voice is very sadly losing it some? Always love you, Bruce. And no one plays the guitar better.

For those of you who might be hearing Night Train for the first time, do check out the original electric studio version for some seriously good electric guitar and not this joe average strumming. I kid you not.

Well..maybe he should just write books..he loves to tell stories..but his guitar and voice...are just too basic and beginner for me..just me..thats my opinion..I only like one song of his...but I didnt think he was so bad...I am sorry...I prefer key changes and ninths and 6ths and 11ths and jazz chordings and a voice that does not sound like your crying all the time..oh shit..I know people are going to attack me..well go for it..

It's an interview, lighten up. He's 74 years old. If you ever heard his earlier guitar playing you'd not be calling it 'basic' or 'beginner'.

Timo Standing Buffalo Cano Yea, you’re out of your mind. His guitar playing is anything but basic, so I’m assuming you’re not very bright.
