- This video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the upper glide pad on a Frigidaire dryer. The most common reasons for replacing the upper glide pad are when the dryer makes noise, stops turning mid-cycle, or won’t turn at all.

This was my project along with changing the bearings and plastic holder on the back of the machine but putting the drum in you think would be easy but it's really not you have to get it just right and don't get frustrated walk away and come back later to do it also be very mindful when you put on the drum Glide felt strip to put it on the correct way the last person that did it to this dryer put it on the opposite way and they broke off which is why it started rubbing badly and went through the bearings in the rear. Be sure to put the drum glide on the correct direction so the tabs face the front of the machine not sticking out the back. Great video thank you very much.
Oh oh. I think you just solved my problem. My dryer started developing a squealing sound, and at first, I just assumed it was the glides. I had changed them once before, years ago. So I put on new glides, and that solved things to some extent, but the squealing started up again, and also a new rumble, like the drum would develop this rumbling/vibration. So then I realized that my rear bearing was dry of grease and worn, so I replaced that. Once that was done, all the squealing was gone, but this new rumble/vibration continued. I put a new bottom felt on to see if that helped, but it didn't. So... I was kind of out of ideas until I saw this. I *think* I may have put the glides on backwards... with the tabs facing the back of the machine.
Alas, no. I just checked and they are, in fact, facing forwards. I just can't figure out this rumble. It appeared when I changed the felt glides. It looks like there may be a very slight out-of-round in an area along the circumference of the drum, but... why didn't it rumble with the old glides? It's a head scratcher.
One of my new glides, an outer one, is already badly worn as well. A month or so in. The tub inner rim it rides on looks quite good. Not sure what's going on here. I'm starting to think that the tabs actually go the other way... pointing to the rear. Are you SURE they're suppose to point forward? The tub doesn't ride even remotely close to the overhanging lip of the glides when they point forward, so what's the point of the overhanging lip?
Thank you for the instructional video!
One point worth thinking about. THE SLIDES slide on the lip of the drum. Should the tub lip be worn and the coating is gone and showing rust, the life expectancy of the new slide will be very limited. MOST AUTHORIZED SERVICERS will suggest the tub be changed to the new style OR SCRAP THE DRYER. RUSTED LIPS will transfer that rust @ times to the clothes.
My dryer has two long snap-in plastic glides on the inside lip of the drum. Do those snap-in glides on the drum have to come out to not interfere with the three plastic glides on the top felt?
Thanks! Worked great. Masking tape makes a good clamp for projects like this.
john of guelph Congrats on the successful repair!
Need some help. There is a plastic part attached to the top cross bar of the dryer housing. Go to 1:05 and pause, I am trying to find the sloped plastic piece that the drum rests on but have been unable to find it in any expanded diagrams of my dryer. I know it exists in my model because I have the current broken one.
Matthew l That part can be discarded. It is only used during disassembly and is not available for purchase from Frigidaire.
