    Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video. 6 years after you posted, my husband and I were able to fix our 14 year old dryer with ease, saving us around $1000 since we were sure we would have to buy a new one. They aren’t cheap these days! Sir, you are a saint! 😊

    This is by far one of the most thorough repair videos I have seen on UA-cam. You, sir, have not missed a single thing that needed to be called out - this is a feat in and of itself. That along with easy to understand instructions, the right visuals at the right time and some amazing tips and tricks to make the job easier (like using the duct tape) make this video worthy of the handyman Oscar, if such a category were to exist. Thank you for saving me time and money on one of the more elaborate appliance repair jobs I have undertaken at home.

    Far and away the best made how-to video I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. My issue was different (heating element instead of bearing) but your thorough and methodical explanation gave me the courage to tackle the job. After a couple of hours straightforward work (I had to rewire the new element as its current contacts were in a different location on the element pan) we now have a wiring, heating dryer. And if the dryer ever starts to squeak, I know I’ll be able to tackle that too! Thank you!

    In 10+ years of using UA-cam for DIY projects and help, this is my first comment! I have to say your voice creates easy listening and guidance step by step instructions is just perfect! Because it was my first time disassembling and reassembling any appliance, it took about 3-4 hrs (2 days for parts to come in) to finish altogether. Thank you so much for posting this! I'm extremely grateful :)

    After a month of this our dryer was getting so bad you could hear the squeaking sound a few houses down the street. My wife is incredibly tolerant and I finally decided to tackle this project yesterday and your video was perfect. It was the actual model I have and everything was well explained and clearly shot in the video. I had a replacement parts kit from another model of dryer that bit the dust a few years ago and surprisingly all the parts were the same. Replaced the belt while i was in there as well. I really really appreciate that you took the time to make this video and upload it here. Saved me from making some silly mistake and having to take the darn thing back apart again. Happy to say we are enjoying a squeal free laundry day today!

    Fantastic instructional video Richard. Thank you.
    I did this repair today on the exact same dryer you have in your video. It went smooth as silk thanks to you. I had the same ball-bearing-eating-the-end-of-the-ball-support issue, with a loud squeal when running. There was no lubricant whatsoever...but it has been 23 years. Now I hope to get another 23 years out of our quiet dryer!

    Richard, You ROCK!!! My Frigidaire dryer had been squeaking for > 1 year, I was fed up. I googled "how to fix a squeaky Frigidaire dryer" and behold, I saw your post. I watched your instructional video, then ordered the kit through your Amazon link ($14.99 + tx. I paid 5.99 for 1 day shipping). That was 2 days ago. Yesterday, I received the kit and went to work on my dryer. I couldn't believe all the lint and dog hair that had accumulated over the years in the bottom of the dryer - YUK!!! It took approximately 1.5 hours total - start to finish. I couldn't wait to put a load of wet laundry into the dryer to test. And voila - dry clothes and no squeak. I have 1 word for you... AMAZING!!! Thank you. ~ Janet

    This was really one of the best "how to" youtube videos I have ever seen. I have watched many videos by people who clearly didn't know what they were doing and showed incorrect and possibly dangerous procedures, on everything from car repair to key repair to plumbing. The only thing that might possibly be wrong with this one is the amount of detail Richard goes into, making it almost 45 minutes long. However, I'm pretty handy and I'm sure the extra time spent explaining in great detail all the steps will really help those who have never really picked up a screwdriver before. And this repair is easy enough for even a novice to undertake. Thanks again, my dryer is super quiet now!

    I don't think I've ever commented on a UA-cam video before, but I was compelled with this one. It's the least I can do. Truly a superb instructional video! Replacement went exactly as you showed. When it came to replacing the bearing spindle and trying to hold it in place myself to get the screws in, I was trying to remember how you did that. Ended up calling my wife to hold it in place. THEN I remembered - duct tape! But a fantastic video, Richard. Many thanks. What would us DIYs do without people like you. P.S. everything's more expensive in Canada. Bearing kit was $19.94 with tax at AMRE Supply.

    Thank you for posting this. This helped a lot in seeing how a dryer works. My old GE dryer looks almost identical to this dryer and I was able to fix this problem within an hour. The vacuuming of all the dust and lint took longer than the actual disassembly, bearing replacement, and reassembly.

      Oh the only thing, our dryer is the same model but did not have washers and the kit we ordered also did not come with washers. But it worked without them. My husband had to sort of drill the screws into the new bearing as there didn't seem to be threads in the new bearing holes for the screws. That was our only hiccup.

    I just disassembled my GE dryer(Exact same as the Frigidaire!). Was worried I wouldn’t remember where and how everything would go back together! Order the ‘bearing kit’, a new belt(while I’m at it), and new ‘glides’.
    Parts arrive this coming Monday! I can’t wait! May I make one small suggestion? Before repositioning the belt onto the pulley....I sought suggest smearing some of the grease on the shaft of the pulley...mine is rolling a little dry and some heavy lubricant couldn’t hurt. Great video, very well thought out and shot(I’m a professional Field cameraman).

    Nice thorough video, thanks. If I could add one thing I did to mine. I removed the belt tension idler pulley then cleaned the shaft and inside of the pulley. I used some of the grease to lube the pulley shaft and a little inside the pulley before re-installing it as mine was pretty dry.

    Excellent instructions! I have the same issue with my dryer, a Kenmore though, and I will get it fixed asap. To simplify the removal of the top cover, do not remove the back plates that hold it down; just pop the front and you should just be able to slide it off. Before hooking up the tension spring in the rear, install the belt first then the tension spring. Much easier that way.

    Incredibly useful tutorial. Thank you.
    ...Its worth pointing out, however, that some related models may lack certain convenience-features that the unit in the video had. My dryer, for instance (similar, but had controls on the top of the lid rather than the front) did not have any interior plugs for the wires. So the lid was permanently tethered to the unit, and I had to prop it up on an adjacent pile of boxes while I pulled out the drum. But, other than a few setbacks like that, the bulk of the fix worked just like the video.

    What a great video. I watched it last year to replace the bearing on my Kenmore dryer. Richard, do you know what would be causing a loud humming type noise and vibrations? I don't remember seeing drum rollers. Could it be the idler pulley?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  Рік тому +1

      It could be. The drum rotates on felt pads as I remember on the front. I would remove the back access panel and have a look at the belt tension assembly as it's running (keep hands and fingers clear) and see if that's the source. It may be that the pulley is worn out or requires cleaning (shaft and pulley center) I would use some of the grease supplied with the kit but make sure you clean the parts first. I do show how to route the belt in the video (v grooves toward the drum) verify you have that correct as well. Thank you so much for commenting, watching and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀

    Wow! All I can say is that was one of the best instructional videos I have seen. Your attention to detail was flawless. I have the same/similar model and yes it is squeaking. How do you know if you have a bad tensioner pulley or other bad pulleys? I have watched several other videos and some have replaced all or most of the pulley wheels, one replaced the felt glide pad for the front of the drum as well. If I am going to pull it all apart, what should I replace if I am going to go through the challenge of taking it all apart, to save myself the trouble of going through it again? My unit, I want to say is 10-15+years old. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to show this. It was the best I have seen yet. Peace, Reese.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 років тому +1

      My philosophy is, "If it's not broken don't fix it." You could check all the items you are concerned with for wear and play and if you find that they are excessively worn then you can change them or you can just replace them all regardless. The first set of parts lasted you 10-15 years the next set should give you similar service. They probably won't cost too much to replace. I think this dryer and washer combo is excellent. Personally I wait till the parts wear out. I don't find it too much hassle opening this unit to service it but it is a matter of personal preference. Thanks and all the best.

      @@richardlloydusa I will definitely check it out if you make a video on such a diagnosis. I re-opened the machine again to look for problems with the heating element. (The drum was much easier to remove now with the shaft hitch all greased up!) I was worried I would have to buy a multimeter and wreck my brain trying to find where the issue comes from but after opening it I immediately saw where the element coil was severed. So I think it's pretty obvious. Kind of amazing that our machine had TWO problems at the same time. o_O Now to find the part and install it.
