    This year has a chance to become the first season since 1969 that has featured 2 teams with dynamic duos (Both having an OPS+ of 160 or above). In honor of this achievement, I decided to take a look back at some of the best dynamic duo seasons of all time.

    Seeing you mention Gretzky/Messier just makes me think of how stacked the 80s Oilers were. In honesty Gretzky's favored partner wasn't Messier (both were centres so they didnt play on the same line), but Jari Kurri, the two combining to assist on 560 of their combined 1495 career goals. Like Kurri scored 601 career goals and Gretzky set up 364 of them, over 60%, in 858 games together.
    The fact that team had those 3 guys, *and* Paul Coffey (who holds the record for most goals by a defenseman in a season), *and* Grant Fuhr who is a hall of fame goalie, *and* Glenn Anderson who made the hall of fame with 498 career goals and 1099 points, just to name a few, absolutely absurd roster.

    The thing about pre-intigration era baseball, as far as I can tell, is that both leagues would've had a theoretically similar percentile of players that wouldn't have made the cut in an integrated league.

    • @nobeardthepirate9172
      @nobeardthepirate9172 Місяць тому

      This is correct but doesnt account for the difference in athletics pre/post-intigration, which has more to do with weight training/diet/life style.

    Watching this to see where the Bash Brothers, Jose Canseco and Mark McGuire, rank. They were the most feared duo during their time together with Oakland.
    Oh, I see based on your criteria, McGuire's 1987 RoY season didn't sync up with Canseco's 1988 MVP year in order to make this list. Glad they got a special mention in your video, though!

    When talking about Mitchell’s 1989 season I’m reminded of Brett Hull’s 1991 year. He scored 86 goals, which wasn’t the record, but the next closest to him was 51. It’s the biggest gap percentage wise in NHL history but people only talk of Gretzky’s 92.

    • @Dulcimerist

    I am so curious to see where Judge and Soto finish on this list. They are already alongside Mantle/Maris and Ruth/Gehrig statistics, but alas the season is very young and the hard part is carrying it for the entire season. But again, Judge and Soto are generational talents that could rival it. We haven't seen a duo like this in a very very long time...

    I agree that integration is a very important line and leaving out minority players is one of baseball's greatest sins. But what do you mean by half the player pool? The population of the US in 1920 was 90% white. Segregation definitely led to the exclusion of many incredibly talented athletes. But not enough that it would change the entire makeup of the sport that drastically.

  • @Mikiciko
    @Mikiciko 10 місяців тому

    5:33 cringe talking about “pre-integration baseball” the way you do. If anything the guys that played before the Jackie type clowns were wrongfully allowed in MLB stats should be counted as double. The game was still pure back then and MLB would be smart going back to pre-1947 rules
