Opening Day is right around the corner, so I figured I'd drop a video the length of an Adam McKay comedy about everything you need to know about Major League Baseball, starting at the top with an in-depth explanation on what a hit is, all the way to explaining vertical bat/attack angle.
Correction(s): The "Swing Revolution" should actually be labeled as the "Launch Angle Revolution"

Glad I can now tell my chronically online friends that they finally have someone to relate to in baseball in Hideki Matsui
1:10:47 don’t walk it back brother, full send. Jeter was a subpar defender, in almost every measurable stat.
He was, however, heinously clutch when it mattered and that is something that modern stats cannot conveyy
Thise “measurable stats” don’t take into account range, which jeter had the best of all time. He was one of the greatest fielding short stops to ever play and anyone who can remember pre 2013 knows that 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
@@richardtherichard26This is a joke, right?
@@richardtherichard26it does take it into account
@@trumanmcgill8199 no it doesn’t jeter was the goat. Cry about it 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
I look forward to Mecha-Ted Williams being the AL MVP of the 2164 season
Andrew Toles just made me bawl my eyes out i had no idea. Im so proud of him for making it in spite of everything
XWOBACON is a legitimate attempt by someone with a math degree to quantify potential and it’s hilarious. Potential is great but if someone is striking out 40% of the time it doesnt make a fuck
Thank you for randomly including TJ Friedl. One of my favorite players as a reds fan and super underrated. Great video as always!
25:30
That was not the last triple play, the Angels turned one on 8/19/2023 in the top of the 9th inning against the Rays
And still lost. Oh, the angels

yeah, for a iceberg video that supposedly determines how much of a fan you are he gets a lot of commonly known facts wrong

First we gotta dig him up from his grave 🤣
It's official, you've gotten this comment, you've arrived
ABSOLUTE GREEN baseball fan here and let me say you’re officially my first actual experience to MLB baseball. So thank for actually not half-assing the first part as it was helpful for me. I saved dozens of baseball channels and videos to watch and this was the first one. Once I saw “EVERYTHING you need to know about MLB iceberg” how could this not be the first one I watch? So great job to you sir and I’m excited to learn more about mlb as this is a great starting point
Yooooo
Super glad to have you on board! If you need some other great channels (assuming you haven’t already added their videos to your watchlist) I definitely recommend And That’s Baseball, Baseball AF, SportStorm, and Baseball Historian
And baseball doesn’t exist and foolish baseball as well
I'm upset that they don't call the end of season WAR leader the "WAR Lord"
We need to make this a thing
Give a little trophy to the AL WARLord that’s actually a sword made out of obsidian
A similar situation to the one of Andrew Toles happened with Satchel Paige after he had retired from baseball, where he got signed to a contract where he wasn't expected to ever take the field, just so he could get enough playing time to qualify for his pension.
You didn’t mention the most unique trait about Rickey Henderson. In the modern era , post 1900 he is the ONLY POSITION PLAYER WHO THREW LEFT AND BATTED ONLY RIGHT HANDED WHO IS IN THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME. There are plenty of HOF PITCHERS who throw left and bat right ( Koufax, Randy Johnson) but Henderson is the only position player…
That’s crazy fr
I do that, I throw left handed and bat/golf right handed
@@scottmattern482 yes there are certainly a few position players in MLB who do that , there is on outfielder on the Astros now , Chas McCormick, but as far as I can determine…HENDERSON is the one “Hall of Fame “position player who threw left and batted right.
@@scottmattern482you ain’t in the HOF tho
@@wm_9640 damn, maybe next year
Thanks. After watching this video, I'm definitely going to look more into this "baseball"
Something very soothing about someone explaining what a home run is oddly enough
Coolest/weirdest batting stance: Rod Carew. So weird, but so effective. Honorable mention: Wade Boggs. The bat never stopped moving.
Carew definitely had a strange swing in the sense that it was so flat it doesn’t make any sense how he managed to hit as many homers as he did ( which he hardly hit any ) , but Rickey Henderson and a couple other guys had similar crouched stances , the weirdest stances I can think of off the top of my head are Luis campusano and Craig counsell
Cal Ripken Jr's "violin" stance is another example of a stance with a lot of bat movement.
We might disagree about some of these takes but man, Ive never seen a more in-depth baseball video. Well done.
This is a top-quality video, seriously, great job on your explication of the various mundane aspects of baseball, you really articulate your ideas in interesting ways (eg. strikezone as a medium / invisible plane).
Aaron Judge running into the right field wall triggers my PTSD
Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter have been added, only Monty and Garver have left and we should have deGrom back this year. I cannot overstate how important the two young rookies will be on this season!
I think dynasties are a part of the rule of 3s. It has to be a span of 3 years of dominance. Chicago Bulls winning 3 championships made them a dynasty. (one of the main determinants of serial killers is having 3 separate victims/ killings over a space of 3 weeks or a month.) Most determining factors of greatness consist of the rule of 3s. (3 championships, MVPs, 3 great stats)
Incredibly well produced video. Love thst you include the topic in the banner at the top of the frame. Awesome stuff
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
21:00 - I agree that there’s no real definition to a Dynasty, but most people agree you need at least 3 rings and usually were the favorite for the years you didn’t win. I’m a Giants fan, people call our 3 rings in 5 years a “Dynasty”. But we missed the playoffs the other years, and were never the favorites. The 90’s Yankees were most definitely a power house dynasty. In basketball, the Warriors. In football, the Chiefs *vomit* and obviously the Patriots before them.
So the Astros are one WS away from being a legit “dynasty”
I always wanted to wait to watch the og iceberg video with mhy friends to educate them but this being uploaded made me realize that's sadly never happening lol. 90 minutes of nmf got me feelin different
I would definitely say this is the better educational tool. A blessing in disguise if you ask me.
MLB’s Taylor Swift is definitely Kate Upton with JV
Kate Upton is way less annoying and way hotter for it
She is perfect 👍
My wife would agree look pretty let the man work
Be a show for him not the world 🌎
Oh an be beautiful ❤
Ps Justin is amazing I hate him but damn the man can pitch
Livvy Dunne has entered the chat 😂
@@defe151 she was perfect on mlb network Pittsburgh doesn’t deserve them
The city does
The team not so much
Nutting
I was thinking J-Lo and A-Rod.
@@EthanNiedorowskiout of all the terrible teams the pirates are easily the funnest to watch. Jared jones is another stud in their rotation to watch trust me. They really aren’t painful to watch they’re not a poverty franchise so you can find some meaning in their wins and losses. I live in Philly so I have my beefs but I’m telling you compared to the other stinkers in the league right now you’re giving the p’s some bad rep
1 hour and 30 minutes is crazy 😭😭😭
I was never an Astros fan, but growing up I loved the Jeff Bagwell batting stance and would emulate his stance.
Also as a massive Phillies fan we don't claim the dbag Lenny Dykstra, the Mets can have the POS all to themselves
I was wondering if anyone would mention Bagwell lol
Big astros fan here and I'm playing baseball currently and my stance is bagwell
NEVER THOUGHT OF PLAY THREE NORMAL EXTRA ININGE BEFORE THE GHOST RUNNER BUT I LOVE IT
Excellent video. I’m proud to say I knew about the Moe Berg and Andrew Toles stories from Level 7, although there were things from Levels 2 & 3 that I have never heard of. Great stuff.
This is a great video to send people who are new to baseball, I wish I had this video when I was getting into baseball! Great video
"when you're talking about shohei you're usually on your knees, though, right?" is INSANE
10:15 “Ronald’s likely to do a 40-70 reason again as long as he stays healthy”. This breaks my heart.
6:15 there’s no way any pitcher is throwing 125 in a school zone
found you randomly and have been watching all your videos. god i love baseball
Been waiting for a good video over an hour long for a while now 🙏
Earned my subscription in under 2 minutes, love this content
1:35:25 Rafael Ynoa is my pick. He was playing 3rd base for the Rockies AAA affiliate in 2014 and I will never forget hearing the ball whizz out of his hand after fielding a routine grounder. I swear he threw it at least 102 to the first basemen and, at the time, that was easily the hardest thrown ball I had ever witnessed in person (again, he was a 3rd baseman)
My favorite batting stance has to be Ryan Howard's. Growing up he was one of the cornerstones of my hometown Phillies, and as a young ball player, I would imitate his pointing at the pitcher and then the rest of his stance, only difference was I was a righty.
Great job on this video
I’ve been watching your videos to get into baseball for my friends and I think it’s working
Former White Sox pitcher Jack McDowell is a guitar player and had an alternative band back in the 90’s.
I really enjoyed this video. Nicely done
54:23 so I was a catcher growing up, I quit to play lacrosse but now have an 8U son who catches. I taught him framing and an umpire told him every time he frames he’s calling it a ball. If he’s framing it’s because he thinks the pitch was a ball therefore the ump is going to assume it was. I could not believe he told an 8U player that 😂
That Ricky Henderson debut to retirement stat blew my mind
100% should not walk back on Derek Jeter's defense. Even if "unreliable",
DR points to him being the worst Shortstop by a VERY large margin.
He should have either swapped with Arod at third, or switched to left field.
Thanks for this. It's eye opening to see how a fan can explain the game to people who don't know it. (And even though I'm an American and a fan of the game since the '60s, I learned a couple of things from this video!)
You actually did a very well job on this. 👏
I wondered what this could be like seeing an IceBerg
But this is even better than I imagined
You break the game down in an hr hlf
👏👏 Well Done
Favorite stance: Craig Counsell. When he was on the Diamondbacks, I always thought he resembled a snake about to strike (fittingly)
One strange part about this video was at 38:00, when NMF said that Judge hitting 62 homers set the franchise record and got everybody excited for some reason. I mean yes, that first part is true, but a little reductive. Judge broke the Yankees, American League, and players who haven’t had to testify in front of congress about their alleged PED usage single season home run record, a record that has been seen as one of the most illustrious ones in all of baseball. Besides this strange little bit, this was an excellent video as usual, and goes to show how spoiled we baseball fans are with quality content.
Tony Batista is my favorite stance, had him as my phone background for a while.
Jeff Mcneil is my version of TJ Friedl. May not have much power or carry physical traits of the greats, but his consistancy and willingness to choke up on the bat and put the ball in play everytime can be so fun to see
Bro I'm hyped for this
9:14 Favorite batting stance eh? I love Khris Davis’ stance, as well as Tony Gwynn and admittedly Anthony Rendon’s
53:24 I love Francisco LINDOE 😂
Great video bit I noticed one mistake
I loved Rafael Palmeiro's batting stance... so smooth
My only argument against robo umps is that it would eliminate the art of framing from a catchers arsonal
Please do a video looking into the data on the 91 series
I was at Seiya Suzuki HR @ Yankee Stadium clip game
Barry Zito also has a successful music career. He moved to Nashville and plays guitar.
You should have mentioned the only death during an at bat in mlb history. It was a Cleveland Indians shortstop, Ray Chapman, who was killed by Carl Mays when a ball struck his head during his at bat. The pitcher was known as a very aggressive one, and the day was especially cloudy. Combine this with the dark brown balls, and Chapman likely lost the ball in the clouds. This incident sparked a change in the baseballs from being covered in chewing tobacco, to being a much lighter colour to be easier to see by the hitter.
Was hoping the Clooney story would be followed up with C Randy “Macho Man” Poffo.
My favorite batter stance is Jay Buhner and his "drunk uncle beer league softball" stance.
I live in an area of Illinois that is pretty split between Cardinals and Cubs fans. As a Cardinal fan myself, I don’t even like to look at the color blue because I dislike the Cubs so much, yet some of my best friends are Cub fans lol
Do you do this every year?
I love watching baseball videos like this despite watching like maybe 2 innings of baseball in my lifetime lmao
Constant movement and slap hitting like ichiro is my style
Former Pirates pitcher Steven Brault also has very good singing videos.
53:52 Ay I got a peanut allergy too! Good vid btw
At 22:17 for longest drought of consecutive champions the NHL/hockey one is wrong since the Pittsburgh Penguins last went back to back in the SCF the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2019/20 and 2020/21
great video and thank you for using my music !
Thank you for making amazing music!
I always liked Howie Kendrick’s batting stance. it’s simple with some movement and it’s effective.
Paul Sewald mentioned, 11/10 video
Favorite batting stance? Might be a weird one, but im going with the 2014ish Eric Hosmer. Its Violent, and looks sweet.
There are most certainly my favorite content
Will Clark had a pretty tight stance for a lefty and also baggy and Manuel Ramirez
Love to see TJ getting some love
My favorite batting stance has to be Carney Lansford followed by Mickey Tettleton.
Not related to baseball, but at 22:24 the Lightning were the last NHL team to go back to back in 2020-2021
Damn what a cold upload
"Vendight" (this is a nitpick of a fantastic video)
Barry Zito is also a country singer. Good voice too
The Tampa lightning repeated as Stanley Cup champions 2019/2020 - 2020/2021
Ayo, George Kirby is bringing knuckleball back, we'll see how it goes this year for him with that
Ichiro and David Eckstein have my favorite stances. Playing wiffle ball as a kid, this the combination stance I used to hit home runs, and I hit a lot of them.
TJ Friedl shout out?!?! Hell yea! I’ll subscribe just for that
22:17 The lightning were the last repeat champions in 2020-2021 even though they were mickey mouse cups
35:40 PAT VENDITTE MENTIONED RAAAAAAAH
The Amphibious Pitcher!
With the wrong pronunciation 😬
Was always a fan of Marcus giles' batting stance. Small man, big bat, arms over his head
Favorite batters stance Craig Counsell or Kevin Youkilis
Hearing someone else pronounce it like "Rough Ned Odor" was very validating
I mean its incorrect...
This will surely date me but fav stances are 1-Griffey jr 2- Palmeiro 3- Sheffield. Easy Gotta throw Thomas in there too just cuz.
we do have our own taylor swift. Her name is Kate Upton though good vid
22:20 oh yeah? Watch this!
1:04:55 Hey that's my RTTS player of this year
surprised you didn't use craig counsel's batting stance as a wonky example
Craig Counsell had an elite batting stance
11:00 the best changup in the mlb is Chris Sanchez’s
Hey uh did you include that one 1997 playoff game between the Marlins and Brave sin the last iceberg or not
because if not then I am shocked it didn't make it here either
Braves got straight up robbed of that game (I think it was Game 5) and I'm a Mets fan
sufjan stevens mentioned🔥🔥🔥 wtf is a happy song🗣️🗣️
1:04:48 and this is the moment I Unsubscribed 😂
Excellent work, but is too much for one video. You could make 4 or 5 videos with all this excellent material
