This is Pam Kershaw, Doug’s wife of 48 years. Our son came across your video today and showed it to Doug. It totally made his day, which is nice because it’s his birthday. Glad he made you smile. He really is one of a kind.
glad to hear he's still kicking and hopefully still sawin away at his fiddle for himself and loved ones? This is a beautiful interaction to see. The Internet is awesome sometimes.
I just saw your husband for the first time and don't know how I missed seeing him before. I'm excited that I get to binge watch now and get to know him.
Wish him a late happy birthday from me! I love his music!
Grew up Listening to Doug and other Cajun Performers. Family members of mine have played his music throughout the years! Cajun Joe is one of my all-time favorite Songs!
Doug Kershaw is my favorite entertainer of all time ...I've been a fiddle player since 7 ..and still watch and play along with Doug every day
A violin has strings, a fiddle has strangs! Love your reactions!
Doug is still alive and is 87 years old. I remember him back when I was a kid
Doug Kershaw is Louisiana music at its best!!!!
If I remember correctly ( and seeing him live and in concert) he had a fiddle in the shape of the state of Louisiana and it was blue. His playing was awesome to hear and watch!
FWIW, if you want to see more, there was a PBS special titled "Fiddlers Three". On it were Itzhak Perlman, Jean Luc Ponty, and Doug Kershaw. Classical, Jazz, and Cajun.
I love you Doug Kershaw ❤
OMG! I thought that I was the only person on the planet that actually knew of him - I’ll watch shortly. ❤️
Saw him live in Denver decades ago. IIRC he went though 2 bows that night. I have 6 of his albums, yes the vinyl type (now ripped to mp3's).
@@billkant849Did you have his album Spanish Moss?
@@larrywright3132 - Had it. Shipped it, along with the other 600lbs of vinyl, to my nephew. I do have the mp3's naturally.
Just love Doug Kershaw. Thanks for reacting to him. The second clip was definitely more how I remember his fantastic performances. Once upon a time he was all over the tv on different shows.
Kershaw is the experience of unbridled joy in music. So glad you found this amazingg artist and person.
My friends and I became great fans of Doug Kershaw back in the 70's, when he toured through Seattle regularly.
This is Cajun music at its finest! Doug is the best! Welcome to Cajun Music.
Cajun Music is happy, celebration music…Get Up and Dance music.
I’m a Proud Cajun and our heritage and culture is beautiful!
Jambalaya, Louisiana Man are a couple more good ones by him, saw Johnny and whole show around 70-71,great reaction,
Jambalaya for sure.
Doug Kershaw was the Man!! A one-of-a-kind musical genius. Wow! never thought I'd see anyone react to this super-deep gem. 😃
Kershaw actually had a hit in the early 70's called "Nickel in my Pocket." I don't think there is any live video but the single is worth a listen.
I haven’t heard this song in 50 years, my dad loved this song, I actually have a couple Doug Kershaw vinyl albums, what a blast from the past.
WOW! I've never heard of anyone review him! I have an old album of him. I never thought of him as "country", rather, Cajun music. His nickname was "The Ragin Cajin"😊
As a Louisiana born girl Doug hits the heart and it's so refreshing to see others love someone who is such a core part of my childhood
He put out an album titled Spanish Moss that has a range of music from ballads to love songs to foot-stomping Cajun music. I lost my copy of it and others in one of my many moves while in the military.
A dive into Cajun music is needed! Fantastic music fantastic dancing!
I have always loved Doug Kershaw. Something about him always reminded me of Rod Stewart. Maybe it's the nose. He used to be on the Porter Wagoner show a lot.
I’d forgotten how much I loved listening to him as a teenager, yes a teenager, I am now almost 71…yrs, I listened to the normal” music girls listened to back then. But just something about Mr. Kershaw & his fiddle 😀😀❤️
Loved watching Doug. He was a trip!
Aww…😃 I’m so glad you like this music. Cajun music. There is also Cajun Zydeco music… It’s all soo much fun and full of life.
I love Cajun music! Some is in English, some in French, and some mixed but it all makes you want to dance. I hope you listen to more.
I was stationed in Louisiana more than 40 years ago while in the Air Force. There was a morning talk show that came on every morning at 5:00 am, where they spoke French only and played Cajun music like this. It was like living in a foreign country.
That sounds like the show "Passe Patout" I used to watch it every morning before going to bed after working the night shift. My mother in law used to tell my wife that he was one of their cousins. He was from Hackberry, LA and we were from Lake Charles and Westlake, LA. Good times listening to his music.
Saw Doug in Seattle in 1973 and he was ELECTRIFYING. This is why we say God Bless America.
I roadied for doug about a year and a half in 80 I believe . He was a monster talent . Long before i met him . I think him and his brother dusty sold MILLIONS OF alblums before then . We played with pure prairy league at the tagus ranch in ca . He played cajun bluegrass to vince gill vocals and was off the chain good . I will never forget . We plaued the palamino alot back then . He had Jay dewitt playing bass for him when i started . Of Rick nelson fame . The whole band rocked . Lots of fun . I rehaired his bows at night in hotel rooms to keep up w him . What a hoot . I thank the long lost Ed Warner for that gig .
He's having too much fun!!! 😂😂
I've always loved Doug Kershaw! I saw him the first time around 1970 and was hooked!
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO AND ESPECIALLY FOR APPRECIATING DOUG'S MUSIC AND AMAZING TALENT.
Doug had an important part in the movie Zachariah. The first electric western. Great music and awesome plot. Also an early costarring part for Don Johnson (most famous for Miami Vice). I think you would appreciate it 😊
I have loved Doug for 50 years or more, his energy, his love for what he's doing, he feeds off the audience reactions, feels their energy he is inspiring! Wow! Doug! My love and thanks to you and family!
I live in Western Canada and in 1972, I got a copy of his self titled album and realized how great an entertainer he was and is. Nobody plays the fiddle with the energy Doug does. I still listen to the great songs from that album, Colinda, Natural Man and Trying to Live. His song writing is up there with the best.
Papa John Creach, Sugarcane Harris, Jean Luc Ponty. Great stuff. Up and coming - Evan Garr.
The Ragin’ Cajun’!! Awesome talent! Loved your reaction to the song! Check out his others! There are so many! Especially Louisiana Man. That’s a great one as well!! Also, New Orleans isn’t Cajun Country. Cajun country is SW LA in Acadian Parishes. ❤
Another good song Doug Kershaw is Louisiana Man. Orange Blossum Special too
Thank you, thank you, THANK you!!!! I've been begging reactors to do Doug Kershaw for 2 years now, and you, Sebs, are the first!
Next, I would recommend Louisiana Man -- A sweet autobiographical stor yr-song, and then "Had it not been for My Sally Jo" a little livelier one.
I have a couple of Doug's old tapes in the van . . . but they make me drive too fast!
The 2nd video is great because you see the folks Cajun dancing at the Fais do do (a Cajun Dance party)… brings back memories of my childhood. Incidentally, Cajun Countru is really further West in south Louisiana than New Orleans
Doug has a lot of energy.I remember watching him play,he has a large Cajun playbook.Jo-El Sonnier is another talented Cajun singer who rocks the accordian!
There used to be a Country venue in the San Fernando Valley in California called The Palomino Club. I saw a lot of musicians in that club growing up. The two that stand out in my mind the most was Hoyt Axton (he was so funny) and Doug Kershaw (the Ragin' Cajun). Doug was a whole vibe. So much energy, played the crap out of that fiddle with strings breaking and the bow frayed and everybody out of their seat dancing their butts off. He is AMAZING!!! The true difference between a fiddle and a violin--- The bridge of a fiddle is adjusted just a little and the strings on the bow is loosened a little and that gives that different drawn out sound.
I Went to see Doug Kershaw, early 90's not knowing what to expect. Lord Almighty...I sat there in stunned disbelief...he took the stage with his 300 year old Stradivarius violin.
And proceeded to dance, sing & play his fiddle while showering the front rows with violin resin powder, sweat(perspiration)& horse hairs from the bow. His bow would only last for 1 or 2 songs before 1/2 the horse hairs were flying around in the air & landing on him, the stage & a few on me. He has been playing violin & dancing before Lindsey Sterling was born.
He appeared in the rock western movie Zachariah
with Don Johnson & Joe Walsh. Kershaw is a good violinist, however he is the best "entertainer" I have ever seen. When he appeared on TV the directors would instruct him to stand still & not dance around- the cameramen couldn't follow him (what a shame).
I don't know why he didn't become mega super star.
There is nobody like him.
I saw Doug many time at the fair in the Antelope Valley, we use to go with My son and my husband, we really enjoy his show, he is awesome artist. I like the best the Cajun Stripper…we like all but that one is awesome
Man I haven't listened to Doug Kershaw in years. The man could play a fiddle like a house on fire but the man was like an erratic energizer bunny on stage. 😂
Thanks Brother I'm so Happy that you have found country music Doug is 87 yrs old and still going strong
I was born and raised in south Louisiana. This is the music we grew up on. Doug is 3rd cousin to Sammy Kershaw. I recommend Wayne Toups. 🤗💜
Oh man, I haven't heard this in a lot of years and when it came out I was just a kid and I'm 66 years old. Good stuff😊
Man I had forgotten about this guy. I’m 63 now and I saw him live in West Texas when I was just a kid. He was a madman on stage that night. I have seen many fiddle players since then including Charlie and none of them compare.
I had the pleasure to see Doug at Milwaukee Summerfest. He was amazing!
OMG!!! Love your reaction to this amazing Fiddler😂- The Ragin' Cajun, the best in my books. In 1974 I went to his show in Regina, Saskatchewan CANADA.
I am SOOO HAPPY that you included the 2nd performance of the same song! The Johnny Cash version was like watching Doug play in a VERY controlled, almost sterile environment. Placing one super talented, high energy musician all alone on a huge stage behind a single microphone stand and asking him to sing and play the hell out of his fiddle for LESS than a minute and a half is like asking Pete Townsend to stand still for 90 seconds while playing the hell outta his guitar in front of a Sunday mass of church goers with their hands folded in their laps. That Johnny Cash performance doesn't exactly showcase Doug's talent as much as the second, noticeably less restrained live performance with a back-up band, people dancing and truly enjoying the music for 2 minutes and 43 seconds! Doug needs room to move when he's holding that fiddle!
Just about any Cajun two-step song will get you moving. Doug Kershaw was one of a kind, though. Saw him live many years ago and had a GREAT time.
got to see him live at the Clark county fair in Washington about 40 years ago. the man went through a lot of bows from sawin on that fiddle. Fantastic performer.
I’ve loved Doug Kershaw for many many years. I’m pretty impressed that you’re reacting to him.
we grew up watching the raging cajon, on the rare occasions you got to see him on TV his bow would be in shreds and he never missed a beat
The only concert I have ever been to was at the fair in Billings MT a long time ago. Was Loretta Lynn and Doug Kershaw.
The Ragin’ Cajun! gotta love Doug Kershaw
The more you like music, the more music you like.
OMG I was in my late teens when this song came out. He was a blast. "Louisiana Man" is another good one. Love Cajun music.
Back in the mid 80's while stationed at Vegas i ran into a guy name Doug Bowser( i may have misspelled the last name) who played in a lot of the small bars. Once saw him put his bow under the fiddle with the strings over the top and play " The Orange Blossom Special ". Check out the song by Roy Clark. Another one that can play anything with strings.
Kershaw's "Louisiana Man" is one of the most loved and covered songs ever. You simply cannot consider yourself a country artist if you have not done your own version of the song. There is even an incredible version on YT that is done with spoons.
I love watching your reactions, Sebs, you never fail to entertain. I'm still watching for you and Ali to get your cowboy boots and hats. I bet you'll get yours quicker if you buy her some first. And don't you worry about your pronunciation, I've never even detected any accent except American English.
I saw Doug Kershaw a couple of times in Texas, but I saw Frenchy Burke a whole bunch of times all over the Houston area. He was the most fun performer I ever saw in possible.
The man can play the fiddle to pieces. Literally.
He puts me in mind of Robin Williams, this is what he would be like if he was a musician. 🌹❤️
i’ve been listening to doug kershaw since i was 3
Seen him on TV. He played the fiddle so hard the strings would be shredded and hanging off
Here in Louisiana, he is a rock star!
I haven't heard this in a long time. Good memories.
Another one of his songs is Louisiana Man he also featured in a music video with Fats Domino called Don’t mess with my toot toot. Great reaction by the way.
The band It's a Beautiful Day has great fiddle/violin music
I haven't heard his name since I was a little kid back in the early 70s. He was definitely a wild assed Cajun, and a hoot to watch.
Being a Louisiana gal myself, we know how to party and drink and be crazy..... but we are definitely lovers of people and fun.... I've been listening to this man with my daddy for years..
Thank you so much for this!!! Now listen to “Don’t mess With My Toot Toot” Doug may have recorded it, but I know Rocking Sydney did.
40 years ago I got transferred to N’Awlins, one year later to Lafayette, the Capital of Acadiana.
Cajun Country was more fun and better food than N’Awlins.
That second video is a pretty typical local festival or just Cajun neighbors getting together and “passing a good time”.
I told people
“If you can’t have fun in Lafayette
you just can’t have fun PERIOD
We mature and evolve as we go through life. You're growing.
My first time hearing this artist. Not bad
I love the Ragin' Cajun! For years and years!! Better to see him live onstage.
Listening to this makes me want to go get some crawfish. Cool.
A Louisianan virtuoso. God bless that make. J'aime ecoute a Kershaw avec la'musique escpeciale du 'Acadian. Ca c'est bon!!
He is so talented
Saw him many times and was one of the best acts of the time. Another lead violin was A Beautiful Day. Check out White Bird.
Makes you want to dance
I've been going through your catalog and just came across Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabelle performing how can I go on. I don't know if you read comments that get added later on after you've done the reaction. I don't know if any of the questions you asked were answered in the comments made when you first did the reaction but this is what I've been able to piece together. There are several interviews with Montserrat on UA-cam. Thank you for indulging me and I hope I gave you a little bit more information
This is a link to Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. She is a well-known Italian opera singer. Freddie was a long time fan of Opera. In particular he felt Montserrat had the best singing voice of any opera star. She was from Barcelona. The song had to be completed by 1988 to be considered for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Freddie told her 2 two years prior to his death that he would not be there to sing it with her because he had AIDS. From what I have pieced together she was the first person that he told even though his bandmates were seeing symptoms in him. The gentleman conducting the orchestra is Mike Moran, who co-wrote the song with Freddie, and not Brian May ( you my be reacting to a different performance of Barcelona) have a different clip than the one most people react to. Not that that matters they're both awesome in and of themselves. But in the other one the conductor does look like Brian May because of the hairstyle and it's at night). So it could be the same gentleman conducting the orchestra but during the day you can tell it's not Brian May.. People get confused because they have similar hair styles. After Freddie had passed other singers contacted her to see if they would collaborate with her. She said that that was something special between her and Freddie and she was not ever going to repeat it . There are several videos on UA-cam of interviews with her talking about Freddie and their collaboration. There's also a video of how they originally hooked up I just don't remember the name of it. The song is actually about him meeting her for the first time. This is the link to Barcelona

I saw him in the 80’s and he tore his pants playing between his legs and bending all crazy
Someone else once said the violin "sings" and a fiddle "dances"
I know what you would like by him and it's called Orange blossom special.
Some people call him the Jimi Hendrix of the fiddle
If you think the fiddle is OG…. Wait until you see Zydeco music make the accordion kick a$$!
O went to a live show..it was amazing!
This has been my ring tone for ages now. Love this song!
Look how he holds it
Eddy Raven was the Ragin Cajun I grew up listening to, and I still love his stuff.
If you liked this... there is a whole genre of zydeco music., from south loosiana where "le bon temps rollez"
Not sure exactly what year, mid '70s, my wife and I went to a Houston Astros game; paid $1.50 each for tickets, watched the game and got to see Doug Kershaw perform for almost an hour after the game was over.
You need to listen to his “Louisiana Man”
Cajun music is awesome and Doug Kershaw is my favorite. Check out Cajun music's close cousin Zydeco music with Queen Ida and her Zydeco band.
I love watching you watch this!!!
Cajun music is so joyful!
Yes from South Louisiana
Dougie be Cajun. When you bored with country, check out cajun, cha, you'll like it. On a Saturday night, at the fai do do, dancing all night to Jole Blon.
That's so amazing!! 😂❤
