I wish they had gotten recommended the raw 8½ minute compilation of all of Hank Williams Sr's live TV performances. The one titled: "Hank Williams-Kate Smith Shows March & April 1952" uploaded by Earl Martin. It's the best quality I've found. He performs multiple songs written by himself, including a duet with Anita Carter. Her sister June Carter (Johnny Cash's future wife) introduces them. Those performances were just 8-9 months before Hank passed during the first few hours of New Years 1953 at the young age of 29.

One is a very poor quality, but the one he did in Pennsylvania during the summer before he died was great. You hear him telling stories and jokes, taking requests, and interacting with the crowd. I think the recording is roughly around 30 minutes of an all day festival performance he did there. Mentally transports me back there, but makes me with I could physically be transported there. Such a different world, long gone. But in some ways, it feels not long gone when listening to it. Or watching those raw videos of his performances.

He used this song and a beautiful horse named Bingo, and the rest is history- my brother came along in 1957, and me in 1959. Hank Sr had such a promising career ahead of him. It's a shame he left us way to soon. His son, did pick up his mantle and create some good sounds of his own. Two legends.

Because it doesn't always show and we try not to show it a lot of people don't realize how much pain we're in or how many simple tasks are almost impossible for us to do. Especially when scoliosis is as severe as mine has become over time. Of course now there are a lot safer and more successful treatments and surgeries if they catch ot early enough. Unfortunately there weren't in the 50's through the 70's and it was too late to help me. Specialists refused to do the surgery on me about 15 years ago because my scoliosis was too advanced. Plus my age and other health issues complicated things as well since I was in my late 40's to early 50's at the time.

Hank was born with spinal bifida and struggled with it his whole life, the leg gyration and constant movement was to relieve the pain. He had major surgery in 1952 and went downhill from there, getting addicted to the pain medicine and alcohol even worse than before, divorcing wife Audrey and remarrying and ultimately his death on December 31, 1952 at only 29 years old.
When Hank Sr and the others came to this style of music was known as Country & Western. You've got to view A Tear in my beer. With Hank Sr and Hank Jr. It's awesome how they did it. Sr. Told of how he & Ms. Aubrey (is wife) came to a producer and was telling him how good Hank was. He said he was taking Ms Audrey to lunch. Hank Williams Sr would've turned 100 last September 17th. Kinda mind blowing to think it's possible that he could've still been alive. But sadly died at the age of 29, over 72 years ago.
Hank was definitely on the thin-legged side. But he had battled constant pain from being born with Spina Bifida. The pain from that led him down the drinking and drugs route at first just trying to ease the pain enough to be able to be comfortable moving around. He was one of the original GOATs. Hank Jr spent all his young years trying to recreate his dad's songs while being steered to by his command managers. They gave Jr. a hard time when he started to do his own music. The mucky-mucks of Nashville gave his and others like Waylon and Willie as well as others for mixing more genres into their songs and heading into what became known as "Outlaw Country." Those very same mucky-mucks had forgotten that the Traditional country like Hank Sr. was influenced heavily by the blues, gospel, and bluegrass of the back hills that the singers were raised. You will hear som GREAT music when you get into Jr's songs. You can hear his dad's influence in it. And he mentions his dad on more than one occasion. Keep up the listening to great music. I love seeing people discover they like this older stuff.

everybody born and raised in the South automatically knows this song because they were danced around by their parents and grandparents and had this sang to them. i did the same to my kids and grands. the other song we all know from birth is "You Are My Sunshine" which is the state song of Louisiana.
His weight had a lot to do with him being an alcoholic. It's a shame. That is why Hank Jr. wrote the song "Family tradition."

I have to agree with this being true Country compared with the stuff that passes as Country today.
Hank was definitely on the thin-legged side. But he had battled constant pain from being born with Spina Bifida. The pain from that led him down the drinking and drugs route at first just trying to ease the pain enough to be able to be comfortable moving around. He was one of the original GOATs. Hank Jr spent all his young years trying to recreate his dad's songs while being steered to by his command managers. They gave Jr. a hard time when he started to do his own music. The mucky-mucks of Nashville gave his and others like Waylon and Willie as well as others for mixing more genres into their songs and heading into what became known as "Outlaw Country." Those very same mucky-mucks had forgotten that the Traditional country like Hank Sr. was influenced heavily by the blues, gospel, and bluegrass of the back hills that the singers were raised. You will hear som GREAT music when you get into Jr's songs. You can hear his dad's influence in it. And he mentions his dad on more than one occasion. Keep up the listening to great music. I love seeing people discover they like this older stuff.
