Cleaning: Clean the lawn mower thoroughly. Remove any grass clippings, dirt, and rust. Use a wire brush to tackle stubborn rust stains. Repair/Replace Parts: Depending on the condition of the lawn mower, some parts may need to be repaired or replaced. Parts that frequently need to be replaced include spark plugs, air filters and belts.... Engine maintenance: Check engine oil level. Cleaned the carburetor and replaced the spark plugs,..... After completing all the repairs and restoration work very successfully, I tested the lawn mower to ensure it was operating properly. Test all functions including starting, running and mowing...... I had to pull apart my dads Honda GX35 line trimmer engine a bit over 3 years ago because the inlet valve got Carboned up which caused the engine to lose compression & not start while he was using it.
I just cleaned up the valves & reused the old piston rings,it really needs New piston rings after 20 years of service but I just did what I did to get it going again.
The main reason that it blows a bit of smoke on startup is because it's stored hanging vertically with the engine at the bottom therefore oil made its way past the piston rings.
It's still going now but !
