Dutch-German Military Cooperation: An Example For Europe?

- On Monday, March 19th the Netherlands Atlantic Association and the Royal Netherlands Society for Military Art and Science (KVBK) organized a program with generals Markus Laubenthal and Jan Swillens titled: "The Integration of Dutch-German Land Forces: an Example for Closer European Defence Cooperation?”
The Dutch-German military cooperation started with the founding of the bi-national headquarters in Münster in 1995. In the following years, this cooperation continued and developed. This resulted into the detachment of the 43 Mechanized Brigade to the 1st Panzerdivision, while a German battalion, including a Dutch tank company, is under the command of the 43 Mechanized Brigade. Such military integration brings about questions regarding the political decision making process concerning the deployment and the military effectiveness of these kind of divisions.
Major General Laubenthal and Brigadier General Swillens talked about their view on these questions, followed by a panel discussion with several members of the Dutch House of Respresentatives with André Bosman (VVD), Isabelle Diks (GroenLinks) and Herman Schaper (D66).

Why not have a Lower Saxon Brigade, Dutch and Germans from the region share culture and language. Both highly educated and in general are fluent in English as the NATO lingua Franca. Draw in the Danish?

More NATO, less EU military is the right way of doing it.
No need to duplicate existing structures when NATO already exists, what is needed is more cooperation and from a European view, and we need to actually increase our spending, so we aren't reliant on anybody for our defence. The concept of an EU army baffles me, it's quite clearly going to be dominated by Germany and France, yet both of which have militaries which are woefully inexperienced and in equipped for conflict, the German military has been drained of investment and maintenance, so why should they get some sort of leadership role in an attempt to clutch power.

Weil kaum ein Deutscher Holländisch/Niederländisch spricht, und ich vermute Sie auch nicht, hat man sich auf Englisch geeinigt. Englisch ist auch Nato-Standart.
Es heißt Generalmajor nicht Major General nur mal so zur Info 😉
Danke für dein Kommentar, du hast natürlich recht! Jedoch Der Dienstgrad Generalmajor ist gleich NATO-Rangcode OF-7 der im Englische Länder entspricht mit 'General Major'. General Swillens' holländisches Dienstgrad heißt eigentlich 'brigadegeneraal' aber weil die Sprache in diesem Video Englisch ist und für die internationale Zuschauer brauchen wir die englische Begriffe.
