I worked as a development test engineer in late 1979 on the AGT 1500 at the Avco Lycoming plant in Stratford CT. My first job out of college. Very interesting. Can't believe it has been 45 years ago.
It happens all of the time. I can't tell you how many times I had to wake up my driver because he fell asleep while we were in a defensive position or halted for a while. I was guilty of it as well when I was a driver.
That's what the driver does. He doesn't come out unless he has to. In the winter, they wrap their sleeping bag around their feet to keep them from freezing.
The commander can also override the gunner’s controls and take control of the main gun. Also, the commander can use the CITV to find another target. That way, after the gunner engages his first target. The turret will automatically swing to the target the commander found and the main gun will elevate or lower accordingly, all while the loader is loading the next round so the firing rate will dramatically increase for combat.

Cool animation 👌 It would be cool to se a video about the T-90M "proryv". The turret is differently shaped, looks way cooler than old T-90 design, almost resembles the Leopard 2 turret when seen from the side
Actually, it's mostly external shape of the turret that looks distinctively different - because of ERA and whatnot. Internals are mostly the same, other than turret being welded and not cast.
So were not gonna question the heat dampening materials used and the fact the exhaust is pointed into the ground underneath the tank. I mean it is still vulnerable to thermal scopes because of the tracks, barrel after firing, and if it is a hot day out. But I mean that's with basically every tank tbh. Also btw this ain't bad content by any means, its really damn well made and I enjoyed it a lot, it just caught my eye with the last little part about the engine.

Good video. 🙂Abrams would be more mobile with the Leo 2's 1500hp diesel as they produce far more torque than a gas turbine of equivalent hp. Heavy vehicles need torque not hp (diesels also start much faster). The Abram's gas turbine is a fuel guzzler, the first Gulf War had to be delayed solely to build up enough fuel stocks for the M1's. Leo 2 and M1 share the same hull and running gear, as well as the same German-made main armament. Trials were carried out with the M1 fitted with the MTU V12, but there has been no definite decision, unless somebody knows the real answer.
@@NoName-md5zb You are not only wrong but you need to educate yourself about the relevence of hp and torque. They do that with motorcycles 12,000 rpm all hp and no torque worth a damn. You dance up and down the gears constantly to keep them on the boil. But they are no good for pulling power, if gas turbines were any good, how come only the USA continues to use them des[pite the Army wanting diesel power? Why aren't gas turbines used used in heavy trucks? There are cars make more hp than most trucks but they can't compare to the torque at low rpm. You want to move something heavy, you need torque, lots of it. You don't need a sophisticated and complicated gear system which will prove unreliable in the battlefield. The tanks we used had masses of torque. We could do a neutral turn on a hard surface with the engine at idle.
Mention that programmed rounds are almost useless against modern (composite) armor or ERA and are not used against tanks. Facing the problem of APS and ERA, the US indeed fall back a good portion of actual tank combat. They indeeed can still fight T70-90 and hope for a good hit with ther latest APFSDS, but it need to hit very precisly, which is pretty tricky by the lower silhouette and by probably both are moving. A hit at a propper ERA like Kontakt-5 or even Malachit heavily decrease effecticvity of even these rounds. The race atm in tech (not in deployed material, which is in both cases way below the technical posibilitys) is between GER and RU. GER has StrikeShield, wich is a ERA/APS hybrid and pretty effective on each whight class of armor. As offensive system, the new Rheinmetall 130mm gun is outfittet with a longer dart, high pressure chamber and the power of the higher caliber to simply reap through everything and bypass ActiveProtectionSystems by its sheer speed. On the other side, russians have pretty sophisticated Malachit ERA on top of either realtivly basic RHA on T-90 or very heavy layers of modern composits on T-14 Armata (which isen't fielded yet). On top of that, RU fields Afghanit APS, which is way better than Trophy, but still inable to catch the latest rounds fired from Leopard 2, which is DM63(by a tiny 50m/s - but claimed to drastically increase this ability soon. Well' see). In offensive, russians are way better and have either Svinets-1 or -2 at ther disposal, which are both KE and both way to fast for Trophy or TUSK armor to react, and will pirce Abrams at any point pretty easy. For T-90 they theoretically also have Vacuum-01 and -02 at hand, which surpase ther Svient's speed and penetration due to a longer rod. As T-14 whooping 900mm penetration of angled RHAe are seen as probably incabable of securing a kill on other theoretical vehicles like KF51Panther, the russians demanded a bigger 152mm gun for the Armata which make the same trick as the 130mm gun from Rheinmetall - less by overpressure, more by brute force (but there are no data available yes. But for the long rod autoloader capable of handling these, we'll have a pretty overkill dart). Only thing unclear right now is the speed StrikeShield can catch up to, but so far only finctional vehilces can even dream of surviving each other - Abrams and Leopard 2 both atm inable to stand a hit from a T-90, while the other way around it is pretty much a question of ammunition and hit location. As a persoonal note: As Abrams reached 70-80 ton whight, it in some ways lost the terrain of 'tank' and gained the definition of a somewhat mobile turret, which very much removes it from comparison - both in mobility (and therfor effective ability to intercept anything) or fighting (as even 45 ton vehilces atm get stuck in ukrainian mud and fail to peform. T-90 and Abrams have similar horsepower, but almost halfe the whight on one of them.
Yeah, the Russian T90 is only 4.5 million. Has anyone been paying attention to what's been happening to the T-90 in Ukraine? Fantastic video!! Thank you.
At 6:32 that "APFSDS" shell is modeled incorrectly. The sabot(or also called a dart) is supposed to look more like a pencil with fins attached to it, but as shown in the video it almost looks as if the casing around the sabot never came off like it was super glued to the dart. Edit: I'd like to correct myself, he was showing the HEATFS shell it seems, but that was seriously confusing, just needs to work on a bit of grammar i suppose

When I joined the Army I was dead set on becoming an Infantry Paratrooper. Of the many MOSs that the recruiters and guidance counselors tried to convince me to take instead, 19K (tanker) was the one that they pushed the hardest. I refused and actually started getting pretty PO’ed that they were trying so hard to convince a 6’4” 17yo that being a tanker was the best option for me. A few years later I was on my base outside of Fallujah when I got the opportunity to climb inside an Abrams. I was too tall and got stuck in the driver seat. It took three soldiers to help get me unstuck and pull me out. I hated recruiters even more after that. Then several years later I was involuntarily selected for recruiting duty 😑 I hated that job but my recruits loved me for refusing to use the same tactics as most recruiters. Like lying or telling potential recruits about MOSs that they themselves had no idea about.

Seriously the best bit about this video is that your measurements are actually in Metric system first. Kudos team.
Cool animation 👌
It would be cool to se a video about the T-90M "proryv". The turret is differently shaped, looks way cooler than old T-90 design, almost resembles the Leopard 2 turret when seen from the side
Coming after we finish the Challenger 2 Tanks.
Currently modeling the T90 Autoloader.
@@Aitelly Hi! Is this an autoloader for new types of projectiles with an elongated penetrator?
Actually, it's mostly external shape of the turret that looks distinctively different - because of ERA and whatnot. Internals are mostly the same, other than turret being welded and not cast.

Great presentation Mr.your voice is also remarkable
Great breakdown, quick and precise.

6:33 I guess that is HEAT!? No it does not penetrate it just shoots the jet!
You Correct - we got lazy in animating this part -
Thanks for the feedback will Do Better
Superb graphics and explanation.
Glad you think so!
7:49 The airburst is intended against softskin vehicles like trucks and against infantry who would be showered with shrapnel from the burst
7:54 The point detonate delay mode is against lightly armored vehicles and fortified structures as the round could penetrate the armor/wall and detonate INSIDE the vehicle/building.
Thanks for the feedback Will credit you in the Pin Sections
I was an army grunt 81-85, and I’ll never forget the first time I saw the new M-1 tank. My sleeping bag slid down the muddy incline, and I woke up to the rumble of a new tank coming down the road, and there I was, zipped up in my sleeping bag with the foot end in the water on the side of the road.
This steering method is much better than the Russian one very easy to operate and obviously much more safer❤
P.S : I'm requesting once again for a review of the Israeli merkava tank

Thanks for the feedback
Torque can be achieve with gearbox. Power is much more important (speed).
On the couch taking mental notes incase i somehow end up needing to command one of these someday
the Israeli Merkava IV tank features both systems, as does the American M1A2 Abrams SEPv3
thanks for the Feedback

excellent video and 3D renderings!

It was more confusing that the HEAT just went through the armor as a whole shell instead of detonating
@@hansiminator69 ur right lol. Ig they have a super tiny budget to not even be able to show us how heat properly works lol

Can the driver get in/out with the turret facing either forward or backward, or does it needed to be turned to the sides for the driver to access the hatch?
Yes, there's a escape hatch on the floor of the tank.
Thanks for replying
@@viceralman8450 That's the M-60. The M-1 doesn't have one.
The driver can get into the driver's from the driver's hatch no matter what direction the turret is facing. It is a tight fit at times when the turret is at 11 and 1 o'clock. Former 19K30

"Unlike motorcycles, the throttles are not independent from each other.
I'd just like to say this, as much as you like to share what you've learned, consider what you're sharing. Just saying.
