Very very well put Wendy. Remember the movie its a " mad mad mad mad world" all those great comediens in one movie. I truly miss the 60s and 70s, a much better time.

He was an amazing talent and huge heart of gold for everyone who knew and worked with him. Searchers, Sands of Iwo Jima, Red River, dozens more huge pictures, he's so damn good, they truly don't make stars like him, what a man... Rickles loves him, you can tell, I've never seen Rickles so nice to anyone, that's his act but out of deference he takes it easy, also John had been sick extended, surgeries and wasn't in best health anymore. We will never see men like that again. Clean humor and the Duke. The Duke was special. Almost all the greatest generation have passed away. Betty White passed she was one of the greats and one from the greatest generation. Make me very sad. My dad was the greatest generation i miss him dearly.
Only Don “Crap Game” Rickles could stand next to John Wayne and insult him while he’s trying to tell old jokes. “This guy won an Oscar!” The Duke of course completely aloof through it all.
I loved both these guys. John Wayne often appeared on people's shows simply as a favor to a friend and accepted no payments. Just an all around good guy. Rickles, where do I begin!! I LOVED his brand of 'insult comedy'. It formed my young impression of how comedy or jokes should be done. Others have done it somewhat but Rickles is and remains the king of it. Loved his show CPO Sharkey in 1976 when I was 16. There was this bit on Johnny Carson where he had guest hosted on Carson and when Johnny came back, he went across the hall to the taping of 'Sharkey' to take issue with Rickles for allegedly chipping his coffee mug. The look on Rickles face when he walked into the middle of filming was priceless. In those days 'behind the scenes' of a camera moving from where it was supposed to be in a studio down halls and people clearing the way just was hardly ever done and made it even more entertaining.

Years before developing the 'John Wayne' persona, young Marion Morrison liked to hang around the fire station at Montrose, California. The firemen liked the kid who always had with him a dog named 'Duke' and that's how he got the nickname which stuck with him for life.
I have my grandmother's 1924 Glendale High School annual which is signed 'Jack Wayne' and 'John Wayne' over the Marion Morrison captions. There were a few photos of him in it as he was Captain of the football team and on the drama squad.
John Wayne was the greatest watched all his movies many times.
he played the same damn character in every movie. himself.
"Not too much applause, this is an old building."
Entertainment & comedy changes with the times, but Don Rickles is timeless & funny to every generation.
Not this generation. He’d have them crying for a safe space in 3 minutes. Truth is, he was one of the nicest guy’s in Hollywood.
Him and my dad in rooms next too each other at Hoag Hospital in Newport. Met him at 11. My dad died. He died about a year latter. Never forget the time he gave me. Buried at the same cemetery as my dad. RIP. Too both
AwwwwShucks.... that was a goodie.... miss them both.. great men and they loved America..
Absolutely great, too bad there's nothing like this anymore! There's no more entertainers like this for the past 20 or more years !
Miss them dearly, wonderful talents who loved America.
Mr. Warmth. Possibly the greatest comic that ever was. Great actor and a true sweetheart.
I was sad when John Wayne had died. I think if anyone could pick the exact time of your death he nailed it perfectly.
He didn't get old enough to see him breaking down. It was still easy enough to remember who he really was. I hope that makes a little sense to some people. When I saw what happened with Kirk Douglas and Burt Reynolds that was just very sad. That dragged on for many many years.
You never want to see someone pass on. I just think John Wayne nailed his last role in life right on the mark. Even in his very last movie about him dying he was still John Wayne.
There is nothing better than a 60's/&70's comedy show.
60’s and 70’s music as well
The Carol Burnett Show. 👍🏻

Absolutely!!

Why are you obsessively posting the same thing? It's hardly a bon mot by any stretch of the term either, bruh.
I can't believe The Duke is in a mask, giddy like a schoolgirl. I LOVE it! I know how much real searing pain his Stomach Cancer must have caused. Thank you Ad Vids, I love ad lib.
Even if his name wasn’t in the title I would have recognized John Wayne! His walk and body!! When you grow up seeing someone on tv all the time you can’t miss em!!
any moron that knows wayne would know it was him
Love those guys . JT
Mazie...earth shattering news...that's the whole point of the blindfold....it's a joke..bc no human would NOT know it was John Wayne.....duuuuhhhh...
Fun video, I had the pleasure of meeting "The Duke" when I was 16 years old. When I knocked on his door, he answered and he said in that voice "Well you know who I am who are you?" I was there to help set up a party his family was having. When I was done his wife gave me a crisp one hundred dollar bill. What a memory.
Real class they can never be replaced I miss the days gone by
Love him. Saw a show in Vegas. Took one member from our party. Too funny.
WOW! Mr. Wayne was a very tall and strong dude! I wish he could be alive❤️❤️
He is, Chiara... he is. Just throw on a copy of Stagecoach, or Red River... Angel & the Bad Man or Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, Long Voyage Home, The Cowboys, Wake of the Red Witch, True Grit... or my all-time favorite, Rio Bravo. He's alive all right... you better believe it.
Love anything with John Wayne in it. Don was a fine actor/comedian also.
Duke passed in 1976, and is still the #1 western star in the world. That's called a legend, folks.
Think it was 1979

Two of the best from a time of plenty, I wish we could have had more Don at Dean's Roast's and the Duke definatly the best of the best movie STARs.

never again
Thankfully there's a few dean Martin roasts on UA-cam but we do need don so much now.
6:00 *That is funny as hell. The Duke cracked up Rickles with that adlib, **_Don't clap too loud, it's an old building._** Sad thing is, I remember seeing this when it first aired.* 👍😀😂🤣️😎
Hello, how are you doing.
How times have changed. Life was simple and honest.
I feel like watching John Wayne movies now...
John Wayne did a good job telling the jokes.
His timing needed work, but he probably didn't get a chance to rehearse.
DON RICKLES, JOHN WAYNE...now THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!!
I miss all these guys from the past John Wayne Dean Martin Sammy Davis jr. And many many more I know we have the movies to enjoy them by but it's just not quite the same maybe I'll rest in peace and bless them for the happiness they brought everybody on screen and on television
Very very well put Wendy. Remember the movie its a " mad mad mad mad world" all those great comediens in one movie. I truly miss the 60s and 70s, a much better time.
Two of the greatest on the same stage~!!!
The Duke nailed every joke and there was no jokes on the cards 🙂really....great actors have great memories 👍
My Mom would have LOVED this!! She was a HUGE John Wayne fan!! I'm sure she saw this when it was originally aired!! Thank you for posting this!
Trivia question for you : what was John Wayne's REAL name ??

Even today 50 years later I'm grinning and blushing, Wayne was such a HUGE star, so talented and charismatic. Typical the twatfer mafia is after him, because off the cuff humor has no context today. God i loved him as a kid. He represents everything right with us.
@@darylshuttleworth9893 Shut up sjw. There's nothing wrong with anything he said. He's right about irresponsible people and he talks like real people like me. People like you act holy but you think and speak like we do even though you'll never admit it.
So true.
I wish I met them both there were big icons in the show business .
I can still watch this. Always. I am just old.
Marion did have a sense of humor, he didn’t mind making fun of himself he was pretty big that way.
Asked by Mel Brooks to play the part in Blazing Saddles that eventually went to Gene Wilder, Wayne said [and I'm paraphrasing a bit here] - "I can't do it, it's too dirty. But... I'll be the first one in line to see it!"
Marion Morrison you are truly missed beyond words.

Don Rickles and John Wayne. Both of these men were giants of America's yesteryear days that are now but a memory. God rest the souls of these two fine men!!
Back when America was great and the culture was strong
It still is. The culture is still all about money, religion, hero worship, and celebrity.

John Wayne was amazing and especially outside of his comfort zone.
Wish we could go back to those days now!!!
Well, let´s be honest, his world view even then was.....stone aged!
@@oldtimer7635 B.S.! It was a different time , you can't judge people by the times they grew up in. A lot of his patriotic views apply today. We need that today!

You obviously know very little about facts, but rely on half truths
Two of the All Time Greats.
Dons my favorite, i always wish i could have told him "Don, your a beautiful man, youve touched the lives and brought smiles to thousands of people for decades, you had 30 TV shows Don... and they all sucked".
I always loved Don Rickles and John Wayne.
Two honorable Americans, both extremely talented in their craft.
I have all John Wayne’s movies on blu ray or dvd because in a few years they probably won’t be allowed to show them on tv because they aren’t pc! Don rickles was an absolute legend also, I’m constantly watching him on the dean Martin roasts on UA-cam of course.
I remember seeing this prime time with my grandpa. 👍
I have a letter from the Duke & went to his home in Newport Beach, California on New Years Day 1979. Rolled into LA to celebrate!. I love this man! I love America & I'm a veteran because of the Duke. I sent him a telegram when he was in the hospital & I have his Congressional Medal. He WAS America! Listen to his album!
i remember the cut version , watching it with my parents ...always loved don , even more that im an adult and really understand the humor LMFAO
OMG!!! That was classic. I didn't know that Don Rickles had a show.
Know one did. Just ask Johnny.
Don was funny and John was a great actor of western movies !
John Wayne AKA ( The Duke ) my all time favorite actor. Don Rickles probably all time best stand up comedian.

Hello Greg, how are you doing.
DEEP RESPECT AND R.I.P TO, TWO OF THE BEST ACTORS THERE EVER WERE. YOU ARE BOTH TRULY MISSED😢
I really miss these two guys.
One of my earliest memories is when I was around 5 years old and settling down with my dad to watch the John Wayne movie on tv.
Asking my dad who was playing John Wayne in this movie.
Silly question of course but a mark of how much of a legend John Wayne was and superhuman in my young eyes.
My dad passed away a couple of years later a young man but they will both remain heroes in my mind.
That was the true America we as outsiders loved , John Wayne , Elvis Presley , Jerry Lewis , Dean Martin ….. and so many more … these days only a handful if that , so sorry time changes so does quality and ethics in nations change .
Yup, now Hollywood & the wretched media are fighting to dismantle and destroy everything America is & has stood for!😭
Freedom, Peace & Loving your neighbor is STILL the majority in America, but what the leftist Demonrat communists are doing thru media/internet is ruining our youth..day by day!
@@b80-s9i What do you call American... I assume you mean White? Wayne was a known Homophobic racist so if he is a hero to you then....
Born in 1981 but i've been into old television since i was a kid. Started with The Three Stooges. I find myself always watching old Johnny Carson, or documentaries on former stars. I don't know what happened with the world, I sure wish i had been a live during this era to really know how it felt, but thank god we have all this media to look back on.
We will never see men like that again. Clean humor and the Duke. The Duke was special. Almost all the greatest generation have passed away. Betty White passed she was one of the greats and one from the greatest generation. Make me very sad. My dad was the greatest generation i miss him dearly.
Sadly a fair amount of those that read your comment don't even truly understand why they were called the greatest generation.
Seen this and had to watch. I really like both of these people.
Laughed so much, John Wayne, what a legend
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
When it comes to roasting a person, nobody could do it better than Rickles.
John Wayne was an open-minded conservative who made an effort to get along with everyone. We need people like him now more than ever.
❤classic! Thank you for sharing. ❤
Only Don “Crap Game” Rickles could stand next to John Wayne and insult him while he’s trying to tell old jokes. “This guy won an Oscar!” The Duke of course completely aloof through it all.
You have to barrel on thru your material or you'll never get it out with DON RICKLES,
Love them both and the skit, too.
