@@willfromyadkinville Well, with a few years on you - we had it even better!!! Starting with early 60's with soul, then Motown, into British, psychedelic, etc., etc. and on into the 70's with super music like ELO and so many others! What a ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
And there it is!!! Let’s just make out the rest of the lineup card: Livin’ Thing, Turn to Stone, Showdown, can’t get it out of my head, Evil Woman, FIRE ON HIGH....
Same! I first heard 3 of ELO's songs on the radio, and the DJ did say something like, "Here's a block of ELO," and played The Eldorado Overture, Can't Get It Out of My Head, and Roll Over Beethoven, in the summer of '75, age 8. I was mesmerized, permanently hooked, though it was several years later that I learned that the first two were two separate songs. I recognized Roll Over Beethoven from having heard Chuck Berry, and the Beethoven's Fifth intro was a cool addition. Over the next 5 years, I heard several ELO songs; some of which I knew was them, some I heard but didn't know who the songs were by. In the autumn of '80, I heard a 2-hour Westwood One history of ELO, though I don't remember the actual title of the show, and I knew most of the songs; for some, though, I hadn't realized they were by ELO. I was more of a fan than I realized! I sometimes wish I could hear ELO's songs for the first time again, as an adult, just for that thrill.
I saw them in Vancouver around the same time, must have been the same tour, the music of my youth. My sons had given me a pair of tickets as a Christmas gift. My wife and I were in our seats and surprise, in they walk to sit beside us. then this amazing concert. it was an experience I will never forget. Music that can cross generations.
My son who is now in early thirties “ discovered ELO( Electric Light Orchestra) and his mind was blown when he learned my history w their music back in the day.
I was thirteen when ELO came on the scene, I remember reading my sisters rolling stone magazine and the critics saying Jeff Lynn was insane using a full string section with rock music and that they would never last! I have always thought the idea was not only serious ear candy, but genius!!!
I remember seeing them on stage with the orchestra in 1978 ,it was amazing to here as good live .saw them again in 2018 ,the production was amazing ,you can tell Jeff is a producer , only band I’ve heard that sound the sam live as on record )
Yeah, Mike. ELO was the first concert I saw. The orchestra section featuring a glossy blue enamel cello. I remember because I played strings... never saw anything like that! 👀 There were lasers and a stage full of musicians making music that sounds and feels like that. It was a big deal for me.
Next needs to be Evil Woman. And it's E. L. O. (EE. ELL. OH.) BTW, if you're up for an amazing instrumental, check "Fire on High". The opening is creepy as hell.
As many of us Lifelong ELO fans can attest, there is a great joy in seeing someone discover them for the first time...And to embrace one of the greatest albums of ALL TIME in Out of the Blue......it is pure joy to Welcome you to Jeff's Blue World...Thank you very much for these wonderful Reactions Videos ! Welcome to the Music (yes, Music) that us old geezers grew up to. There is such a trove of groups for you to still discover. I’m reliving the early to mid 70’s watching your reactions and appreciation for all these old school tunes. Thank you.
I want to go back through the portal to when I was a kid again too Jamel. I listened to the album a hundred times over, still have it and pull it out now and again. I was 12 when it came out, but already a music head.
The harmonizing of the voices adds a whole new dimension to the music. The echoes of the backup singers, and the bass singer bringing it up afterward is just kick in’!😀
Sweet Talkin Woman has a number of riffs and harmonies that evoke doo wap styles of the 50's and 60's... multi layered vocals and a driving beat that makes one rise to one's feet! All hail ELO! The look on your face as you hear Jeff Lynne and the band go into overdrive, makes me smile and join in the fun!
One of my favorite bands of all time. That whole album is excellent! I fell in love with the violins in their music in the 70's. Jeff Lynne is brilliant

The reason this song is so great is that Jeff Lynne never let it get boring. Something is a little different in every verse section, pre-chorus and chorus. Maybe the arrangement is a little different (example: the lead in to the second chorus is lighter and higher than the first round). Maybe a vocal line is dropped in from out of the blue, or there's an instrument playing the same riff another instrument played elsewhere. The hard vocal breakdown near the end is beyond inspired. You're thinking they'll do the standard chorus codas to the end, then they make you sit up hard at the sudden--but completely believable--change. This is fantastic pop songwriting. Should be taught in musicology classes everywhere.
My favorite ELO tune. To me they were honoring the 60’s Motown sound. I grew up to this and the Beatles and The Four Tops and The Beach Boys and The Chairmen of the Board and so many great artists.

And I can tell from your reactions that you are hearing EVERYTHING in the song -- picking up on all of it. You can listen to virtually ANY ELO song -- they are all great. Jeff Lynne was a perfectionist, so once a track is laid down, you know that you're going to be hearing something great.
This is THE BEST reaction to this track EVER....you mate just rock! We WERE a spoiled generation when it came to music!!! The composition and production of the tracks were ALL Jeff Lynne...he was a master of composing layers of musical instruments and creating/mixing tracks. Total music genius!
@@tjl4041 The only song I hear from it on radio or setlists is "Hold on Tight" which is a great anthem, but there is so much more the album has to offer. "Ticket to the Moon" as a piano ballad; "Way Life's Meant to Be", "Lights Go Down"; "21st Century Man", "Yours Truly, 2095" - It's an album I find difficult to listen to one song without listening to the whole album. It would be amazing to see if the story of it could be adapted as a musical one day.
Personal favorite, I live in rural Kansas, and when my boy was in Pre-K I would drive him up the lane to meet the bus. One morning this came on the radio, and to my surprise, I could hear him in the back singing the response (slowdown...hold on... ECT.) I now can't listen to it, with out hearing it in my mind. He's 17 now, and growing into a fine young man.
@Lewis when I was in grade school, on a field trip, I saw the mural the self titled album art was taken from. I said, "Hey it's the Kansas record!" My teacher broke out in laughter.
God, I miss those old rock and roll days, cruising around with my buddies in their old 64 impala SS or the 70 model Chevelle SS 396 and blasting out the back windows with these songs.
There's a very good reason you have so many subscribers, you communicate your joy in music right out of the screen and into our homes beautifully. Thank you.
When you're done with ELO, you need to listen to the Traveling Wilburys. It's got Jeff Lynne (from ELO), George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty.
This one makes me dance too, and it was so fun to dance and sing along with you, oh my goodness! I too have the time travelling rollerskate fantasy. Sigh. Thank you for sharing this joy!

Saw ELO live back in 1978 at the Cow Palace near SF, right after their "New Worlds Record" album was released. The Best live concert I've ever attended. The original group had cello's and violin playing members in the group! They have an incredimazing sound and lead singer Jeff Lynne has a one of a kind voice! A laser light show played throughout the concert and was bouncing off the walls.. BTW, Jeff Lynne is a master of song lyrics. One of the greatest songwriters from back in the day, who wrote many hit songs for other artists. 🙂
With all due respect to the choices so far, "Showdown" is their best work. John Lennon, who knew something about composition, said that song was their masterwork, and one of his favorite songs of all time. Please don't miss it.
Jamel, you’re cool as hell, brother. Out Of The Blue is such a great album. I suggest reacting to “Night In The City” by them from the same album. One of their best deep cuts. You will love it.

And I can tell from your reactions that you are hearing EVERYTHING in the song -- picking up on all of it. You can listen to virtually ANY ELO song -- they are all great. Jeff Lynne was a perfectionist, so once a track is laid down, you know that you're going to be hearing something great.
"Can't Get it Out of My Head"
Evil Woman
Do Ya
I'm Alive
All Over the World
Xanadu
Those last 3 are from the movie Xanadu's soundtrack.
Sorry but Xanadu sucks, love everything else of Jeff Lynn’s but Xanadu, nope...
Xanadu! 😁
Terrible movie. Great songs by ELO and ONJ.
@@1BobsYourUncle Disagree. Movie stinks. Songs good (by ELO & ONJ).
I love ELO but the only good Xanadu song was by Rush
This is THE BEST reaction to this track EVER....you mate just rock! We WERE a spoiled generation when it came to music!!! The composition and production of the tracks were ALL Jeff Lynne...he was a master of composing layers of musical instruments and creating/mixing tracks. Total music genius!
These ELO vids are seriously taking me down memory lane.
I mentioned it on Telephone Line, but it bears repeating: "Here is the News" is an amazing ELO song - story, action, and musical genius. :D
This.^
That album "Time" was so underrated. That was my second favorite Electric Light Orchestra album.
Needs to review some from this album.
Lights Go Down
Hold on Tight
Prologue - Twilight
@@akumacv2075 I love the entire album. There is not a bad cut on that album.
"Shine a Little love" "Confusion" "Starlight" and obviously "Last train to london" my favorites of them
+1 to Confusion, not so heavily requested, but such a cool beautiful song
Discovery - Great album
Throw "wishing" into that list, and I'm in 100% agreement with you!
SHINE A LITTLE LOVE!!!!!!
Confusion intro is giving me good vibes. +1
I'm 55 and didn't know how good the music was until now. Watching the reaction videos brings back memories for me.
you would like the '" Jeff Lynne's ELO: Wembley or Bust " live performance to see the concert effect especially with ELO light ship stage setup
I will 2nd that!! A great live performance that really sounds unusually clean & great!
Good to see this reaction! To me, the song is a theme song for a long lost friend of mine. Great song !!!!
Oh mate, go down the rabbit hole cause you ain't heard their best yet!
"Y'all got so much great music." We do, and you're very welcome for the 'intro' to it all.
Never cease to love elo!!
Lesser-known ELO gems with killer intros: “Tightrope”, “So Fine”, “Rockaria”
I love tightrope so much
you are right , love those 3
Insane outro: Shangri-La
Rockaria is killer!
agreed and to add to that list I would include 'One Summer Dream'
Personal favorite, I live in rural Kansas, and when my boy was in Pre-K I would drive him up the lane to meet the bus. One morning this came on the radio, and to my surprise, I could hear him in the back singing the response (slowdown...hold on... ECT.) I now can't listen to it, with out hearing it in my mind. He's 17 now, and growing into a fine young man.
That's so nice
❤❤❤❤
Another one for him to try is Kansas! Dust In The Wind, and a few others....
When you said skating rink, this song was definitely played at the one I went to.
Me, too!
This one makes me dance too, and it was so fun to dance and sing along with you, oh my goodness! I too have the time travelling rollerskate fantasy. Sigh. Thank you for sharing this joy!
“Ticket to the moon” is a beautiful song.
yesssss
the entire album is beautiful
“Time” is so massively underrated. Look up The Bouncer, a bonus track from some releases. It’s so good.
I really hope you're gonna react to evil woman by elo, hands down my favorite song of theirs
Hells yes
I got my head phones in... burst out laughing when he said "take me to the club with ch'all.....I got my wig". I probably looked like a fool. Good thing I wasn't drinking milk. It would have squirt out both nostrils. Man! The things you say! "I got my wig"... hehe... U Make me laugh man!!!
This is the song, that through nostalgia and pure brilliance, makes me happy at any and all moments- whenever needed.
Great reaction -
As we have come to expect😉
Love Showdown.
True and correct! Do not miss!
I always think of Kingpins.
Lennon saw ELO as picking up where the Beatles left off
Fantastic tune "Showdown" is!
Jamel, you’re cool as hell, brother. Out Of The Blue is such a great album. I suggest reacting to “Night In The City” by them from the same album. One of their best deep cuts. You will love it.
Yes! Night in the city!!
Jay Emm fab album.
"I just want to jump through a damn portal."
Don't we all, Jamel. Don't we all. Although I was 9 or 10 when this came out, so I couldn't get into the club with y'all. LOL
I was 5 and absolutely love ELO, I'm from their home town too - Birmingham UK
This is straight up Skating Rink on Friday night groovin'!
Yep. I was there in the 70s... at "United Skates of America" 😘
Yes! That and Nutbush!
Everyone help me direct this man toward
THE BABYS
*Isn't It Time
*Everytime I Think Of You
*Turn And Walk Away
I need help!
Midnight Rendezvous too!
Yessssss
Yes, please!
Great choices my friend. Love the Babys.
"Head First" & "Turn And Walk Away” and also, Solo John Waite: "Change"
I saw them in concert when I was a kid and it was amazing! Full orchestra and laser light displays going on over your head. One of the best experiences of my youth!!
Love all of E.L.O. Thanks for bringing back a fresh look at my childhood radio tunes.
Of course I like ELO, but watching these reactions gives me a new appreciation for these bands who have been in my life since I was born. We hear it our whole lives and forget how good it is. Thank you!!
